So sorry for the lack in blogging… sometimes real life gets in the way!  Over the last month I’ve been slammed with work and this damn book called Fifty Shades of Grey.   With every minute consumed with work-related stress and Christian related sexual-angst I just didn’t have the time to blog.  But, I’m back with my soundtrack for the month…

And…

I’ve got some good stories too.  I promise to blog later this week!

So… the month has already started off with a bang!  (If only I was being literal!)

To bring you up to speed…

Work guy:  A few weeks ago I met Work Guy.  We met at a conference in January.  He is gorgeous, successful, (he makes my dream guy seem like a troll), and emailed me about meeting for work.  We got drinks, which turned into dinner, which turned into four hours of the best “date” I’ve had in years.  We talked about everything from work to life to… his girlfriend.  That’s right.  I finally just asked if he had a girlfriend and got back a… “yup.”  Now, this “work date” was completely inappropriate for a number of reasons.  1. We were drinking and hanging out in his office after hours.  2. It was amazing 3. He has a girlfriend.

So, I, of course, as a confused singleton,  bounced this “work date” off of all of my guy friends who all came to the same conclusion… he is over his girlfriend.

If only life were that simple!  In an effort to keep things “work related” I have kept all communication about work, but haven’t heard much back.  I’m not one to break up a relationship, but haven’t felt a spark with someone like I did with him in years.  So… I wait and now, you can wait with me!  If I don’t hear anything back in a few weeks, I think I might just throw it all out there on the table and see what happens.

The unfortunate part of this whole thing is that I’m really digging on this guy.  I get butterflies when I think about him… I feel like those damn werewolves in Twilight when they imprint on someone!

UPDATE:  I didn’t do anything… I thought about it a lot and don’t want someone who isn’t available.  And… just found out he just got engaged.  If anything, I feel bad for his fiance.  I wouldn’t want my fiance flirting with other women.   So my lesson?  Trust your gut and remember that karma is a bitch.

Text Guy:  If you’ve been reading my blog from the beginning, you know how I feel about texting.  I’m all for sexting, but think texting should be left to short, little, nice notes, not the sole form of communication.  But… a guy I went out with a few times a few years ago was on Match, so I decided to reach out.    Here’s some info about him… so, I emailed him and told him he should call me.  Haha!  What a dipshit I am, when I know he hates the phone!  So, I emailed him back and said, “I’m retarded.  I know you hate the phone… text me anytime.”  Five minutes later my phone was buzzing… we’ve been texting for about a week now.  Will we ever get a drink?  You’ll be the first to know.

He compared himself to George Clooney because they were both 49.  Yes, seriously.  Lets set the stage – Me: 32-year-old female, 5’5, cute, independent, successful.  Him: 49 year-old male, hairy, 5’4, persistent.  (PS. How freaking hot is this picture of George? Yum!)

Him: Sarcastic! I like it and think we would keep each other on our toes.  I like to hike near (where you live).  Lets hike sometime. Blah, blah, blah.  My name is Tiny Tot.

Me: Hi Tiny Tot.  Thanks so much for reaching out.  I checked out your profile and don’t think we’re a match (age, distance, etc.), but wish you the best of luck in your search and have a great weekend.  I’m sure there’s a great girl out there for you! (And yes, I really do send these emails.  I believe everyone deserves a response if they have the balls to send an email in the first place.) 

Him: Thank you for the response. I appreciate it. Something I don’t understand though is that most people have on their profile in the I’m looking for category “friendships or activity partners.” I find that if you don’t meet the right criteria, they are not interested. I don’t get it. I just asked if you would enjoy hiking.  As far as the age thing here is the deal. I find that most are hypocritical. I mean me and George Clooney are the same age. If George Clooney ask you out would you say no? If you would say no then you are the exception and not the rule. Him: That is my point. It’s not the age, so why don’t women just be truthful about it. It’s who you are and what you have to offer. The age thing is a cop out. You just made my point for me with your first sentence.

Me: Ok, Tiny Tot.  I’m going to get real now. (At this point, I’m getting annoyed that he is NOT getting the message.) Let me be clear… and now very honest. I would go out with George Clooney – he is handsome, rich, tall, funny, and famous. You are not handsome, tall or famous. I would be able to tell my kids one day that I went out with George Clooney.  They could care less that I went out with you. Now, do I want to marry George Clooney?  No. I want to marry someone I can have and raise kids with. George doesn’t want that. As for the age thing, you are also closer to my parents age than mine. Again, as I have mentioned before, something I’m not interested in.  So, to be very clear… when it comes to dating you we are not a match on three major things which are deal breakers for me – AGE, LOOKS and PERSONALITY.  You and George Clooney are apples and oranges. It would be like comparing me and Heidi Klum. I’m sorry that you continue to run into the age problem – maybe you should reach out to women closer to your age?  I emailed you back trying to be polite and didn’t have to.  Again, best of luck in your search and I hope this explanation clears some things up.

Him: Good to hear your honesty. That’s what I was after. This has to do with being the age cop out thing that I run into. As it so happens I have no problem dating women that are younger than YOU. I just don’t seem to get the one I want. When I do come across one that I want then yes it does get frustrating when they hit me with the age thing. I did find it rather troubling that you basically said I ugly. A bit uncalled for, but such is life. I was only making a point which you confirmed.

For those of you who didn’t live under a rock in the early 2000′s, do you remember Ally McBeal?  Ally’s therapist told her to have a theme song… I thought it was pretty cool and for the last few years have chosen a theme song to get me through each month. Sometimes they’re happy, other times they’re inspirational and sometimes they’re just fun.  This year I decided to post my “song of the month” at the beginning of each month so we can all rock out together.

My January theme song was all about doing some amazing things in 2012… Don’t you want to rock out to this song every morning? I do.

For those of you who follow me on Twitter you know that I went out with a guy named Marty last week… as you all aptly named him… McFly.

I’ve told you all that this is the year I’m going rogue.  I’m going off my “list“ to see if maybe my type isn’t really “my type.”

So, a guy that favorited me months ago on Match.com was persistent enough to ask me out again and I was open enough in 2012 to say yes. How off my list was he, you ask?  VERY.  I prefer tall(er)… he was 5’7.  I’m 5’7 with my everyday heals on.  I prefer close to my age… He was 8 years older than me.  I prefer dark hair… he was somewhere between dirty blonde and grey.  I prefer athletic… he was “a few extra pounds.” Maybe I went a little too rogue, but I’m trying!

* Please note, my date was not nearly as cute as Mr. Michael J. Fox!  But, McFly was awkward in these movies and on my date!

In our email exchange I asked is he wanted to get a glass of wine somewhere when we met up.  His response, “I’m allergic to wine.” Oh my…

So, we ended up meeting up a dive bar on the west side.  There were a few things I liked and a few things I hated about this date.

Likes: cute place – even though very divy, happy hour prices, good lighting (yes, it was after work so I didn’t have to worry about how my post day face looked in the light!), the conversation about online dating got very interesting!

Dislikes: no parking – NONE – so I had to park on the street, walk down an alley and pray for my safety.  We also sat in a room decorated by scary dolls.  It was like being in a horror movie.

(NOTE: Boys, when planning a date, please keep parking into consideration! I had so much parking rage that by the time I sat down I NEEDED that cocktail!)

McFly was a lot like his character… a little socially inept, sweet, but awkward and really needed some help in the conversation portion of our date.  20 minutes in I felt like I was an HR person interviewing a new intern.  Finally, our conversation began to flow once we realized we went to the same college, but then it was a lot of, “When I was your age…”

All and all, it was a fine “date” and it got very interesting when we dove into the ins and outs of Match.com.  He had no idea that guys take pictures of themselves with their shirts off in their bathroom mirrors (even though they shouldn’t) and I had no idea girls do the same thing!  Now, I’m thinking I must look like effin’ PollyAnna on my profile!  

The night ended when he walked me to my car and I told him I thought he should check out eharmony and see if maybe their matching algorithm could find him someone better than me.  Yes. Seriously.
