A new report has stated that the India and China are quickly coming up as new tech powerhouses, and will eventually fuel the growth of Information Technology over the next 10 years.

Forbes magazine said while quoting a recent Global Information Technology Report by the World Economic Forum, that even though in present situation there is a huge gap between these emerging markets and developed nations, it will narrow down in the coming ten years.

138 countries were tracked and ranked by the extensive use of Internet, personal computers, mobile phones as well as IT infrastructure and regulatory environment, India ranked 48th, while China was ahead at 36th.

Amongst other Asian countries, which scored high in the rankings, Singapore excelled at the second place whereas Taiwan, Korea and Hong Kong came at 6th, 10th and 12th place respectively.

After examining the inclination in the initial public offerings, Forbes noted that China had accounted for 22 of the 61 venture-backed companies which went public in the US last year. Recently, a research company called Juniper Research had conducted a study, which revealed that around 300 million Smartphones around the world NFC technology would be using by 2014.

The research company has estimated that countries which adopt the technology at its primary stage will lead to growth in the Near Field Communication market. The company also said that almost half of the North America’s Smartphones would be NFC-enabled by 2014, with Western Europe also not lagging behind.

In a statement, Howard Wilcox, who studied and wrote the report, said “Juniper’s market analysis highlighted that, although there are still hurdles ahead, NFC prospects have been boosted by the succession of mobile operator and device vendor announcements.”

Recently, Canara Bank, which is also one of the leading public sector banks, announced that it has launched four technology products, enabling cashless services.

A company release from the Canara Bank stated that the Canara Bank Platinum Debit Card, which is a premier version Debit Card, which is being provided to several of its customers, offers various benefits compared to a normal debit card for the first class segment customers. The customer having this card can easily withdraw maximum Rs. two lakh per day. Along with this, the card also provides a complementary insurance cover to the card holder and Global Customer Assistance Service which is being provided by VISA/MasterCard.

Then there is one Canara Campus Card, which is a co-branded debit card and launched in association with the educational institutions. This card is to be issued to students of recognized institutions in order to make the progress of payment of fees smooth. Students can also use this card as a normal debit card to make payment in other merchant locations/ATMs.

A new Bill Payment Facility has also been introduced by the bank that enables Net Banking Account Holders to make 80+ types of utility bill payments online by clicking the link provided in the Bank’s online portal. However, in case of some of the billers, the customers need to register themselves first in order to proceed to make payments.

The bottom line is that though there are various other phones available with similar or better features, there will be none as sturdy and reliable as this one, especially with an Android Froyo OS.

Sony has teamed up with the Whistling Woods International (WWI) to set up the Sony Media Technology Centre (SMTC) at their campus in Mumbai. According to the reports in media, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan, has made a proposal which allows a maximum Chinese investment of not more than 10 percent and 50 percent in the Taiwanese technology companies and in the new technology-sector joint ventures, respectively. And, it is being anticipated that the plan would get the approval from the cabinet and will be declared publicly soon.

If the proposal gets passed, the new rules will give the access to Chinese investors in a few of Taiwan’s most internationally acclaimed companies. Recently, Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) announced that it has developed a unique technology to spot human beings trapped under the trash of residential and commercial buildings after earthquakes or massive landslides.

Chief Controller, Research and Development, DRDO, Prahlada was present at the occasion of the launch of an insect repellent and there he told Press Trust of India that, “It is called Acoustic Life Detector or Sanjeevani. It uses highly sensitive acoustic sensors and audio signals to listen to the low frequency sounds from below the debris.”

The acoustic sensors are programmed to spot a range of low frequency signals, such as moaning, scratching, tapping or hitting sounds made by the people trapped in the debris of homes and other buildings.

The Chief Controller, R&D, DRDO, also stated that, “It would be provided to disaster management teams, earth quake response forces and police and fire services department. We are in the process of selecting a private industry which would go for its mass production and marketing.”

This newly developed technology is a part of Accelerated Technology Assessment and Commercialization (ACTC) programme, which is being jointly supported by DRDO and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
