Alta California (English: Upper California) was a province and territory in the Viceroyalty of New Spain and later a territory and department in independent Mexico. The territory was created in 1769 out of the northern part of the former province of Las Californias, and consisted of the modern American states of California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, western Colorado and southwestern Wyoming. The territory passed to American control after the Mexican–American War and ceased to exist with the creation of the State of California in 1850.

The world was 'Zuckerd' last week : Facebook sells stock to the public Friday in the most talked-about market debut in years. As the world knows now, Facebook (FB) opened on NASDAQ at $38 per share, trended up immediately to the low $40 range and then dropped back to end the day at $38.23. That 23-cent gain for the day made for an uneventful introduction, but the market capitalization (MC) of $104B still ranks FB as the all-time leader for an Internet rollout. See chart below for how that MC compares with other USA corporate valuations.

What's more, Zuckerberg managed to invite his employees, friends, and followers to a supposed graduation reception for his girlfriend Priscilla Chan, but they actually attended a wedding!

For a city and region lacking no amount of visual fascination, real or imagined, it was an unreal scene for the final hours of the historic "Levitated Mass" move. It took 11 nights for the 340-ton granite boulder from Riverside County to reach its destination at Los Angeles County Museum of Art. LACMA paid the quarry $70,000 for the rock and according to LACMA's director, the total cost of buying, moving and setting up the rock is around $10 million. It was privately funded.
