This is my first time travelling with baby and packing alone is driving me crazy. I wonder how Nicole, my friend made it to London and Paris with one toddler and one infant. It must have took her so much effort to think, prepare and pack.

On the bright side, I don't have to pack thick winter jackets like she did and I'm travelling within Peninsular Malaysia so if there is anything that I've missed out can be bought in Tesco nearby grandma's house. By the way, this is the last thing I want to complain. Nonetheless I'm happy as it's our first family getaway.

Welcoming some wrinkles and a few strands of grey hair. My husband turns 30 year's old this year.

Biding bye-bye to digit 2, his age officially begins with digit 3.
It is pretty scary to think how time flies and everything seems to move so quickly ; from lovey-dovey boyfriend to lifelong husband to a happy daddy. Soon to be a retiree and a grandpa. We want to cruise slowly throughout this journey together so that we could enjoy each moments in life.

Oh, when he blew the candles on his cake, I secretly wished for happy and healthy 100 years to come- we'll be old but young at heart and as loving as always, holding hands while we watch our grandchildren play.

My baby hasn't broke out in a grin yet, makes me wonder how she feels about herself and the world. I'm guessing my baby is contented, but she will smile at me soon I'm sure. Which makes me very eager to stimulate her with all ways.

I cuddled and greeted her with a big smile, she didn't return any.

I massaged her- it didn't work.

I talked to her in soft tone, medium tone, loud tone- she gave me no response.

I held her in my arms and danced with her, she looked at me blankly.

Humpph. I'm not discouraged, I kept trying till today, I did not give up.

Just couple of days ago, I was talking to her, telling her she has been very naughty lately. She is cranky and wouldn't let me out of her sight. After I finished the last sentence, she giggled.

I told her, not funny- cannot laugh, mama scolding you - why are you so naughty? She gave me a cheeky smile. Oh, a smile that makes all that stress and worry from the past worth it.

My baby, Jocelyn is 4 months old. Lately she starts crying and fussing when I leave her with a familiar people even for a brief period of time. She was once okay with anybody, papa used to carry, feed and put her to sleep everynight, yet her reaction now is very different from few months ago. She would began frowning and crying when papa picked her up and held her. Reason to it is, after the second month my husband was less involved during her playing, feeding and sleeping time instead he did other chores like wash and sterilise milk bottles. So, baby is attached to me.

In another event, her poh-poh (grandma)- my mother-in-law came for a visit last weekend with our relatives was surprised to see Jocelyn's distress turned into a full-blown sobs when she tried to touch or hold her. Her little eyes were locked to mine, refused to look at anyone else when they greeted her. Poh-poh was disappointed. I know we should let them meet more frequent as opposed to just weekly.

My baby is going through stranger and separation anxiety, in order to help her, we brought her out to shopping mall every weekend for the past three weeks. We buckled her to car seat, put her in the trolley, and park the trolley next to us facing outwards to show her new people and new surroundings other than home are okay while my husband and I have our lunch. If she cries, we will not pick her up. What we did instead, we comfort her and tell her that she's safe with us and everything will be okay.

Most of the time, she'll maintain quiet for as long as the trolley is moving. If trolley stops, her alarm will go off. In order to have our meal in peace, either one of us will have to eat with one hand while another hand moving the trolley.

We had lunch at Simply Penang, food is good, price is reasonable- we will definitely go there again. Next time around will be bringing my mom, she'd would the ikan goreng kunyit served hot and with sambal :)

Project baby has come to an end. The whole process of making, pregnancy and birth are wonderful. I kind of miss pregnancy as people pay extra attention, tend to be very careful around you, and not to mention the special privilege at public.

Do I plan to have another one soon, ermm..next year, dragon year? Nope...! After going through countless sleep deprivation days, I need to rest and allow my body to heal before second baby.

****************************************

My expected due date is on the 25th July (Saturday), by Friday I was getting anxious as there is no sign of labour yet. The reason why I am anxious is, all of my friends gave birth a week or two early and why am I not? Well, there was slight bit of blood during morning but no sign of any blood after I showered during noon. I remember gynae mentioned nothing to worry if such slight blood appears, only thick blood stream I should be worried of. After some chat with close friends of my condition, I made a speedy decision and decided rushing to hospital an hour before my gynae goes off from work. Her clinic closes at 5pm. I reached there around 4pm plus and still managed to slot in as her last patient.

She scanned and checked- baby is 3.4kg and has reach maturity, she then offered us induction option. Induction triggers the contraction hence dilation and delivery. We thought it's good to do it over the weekend, afterall it's really on her expected due date.

The first induction (Prostaglandin Suppositories) took 6 hours. The contraction comes on and off, managed to dilate about 4cm, so they put me on drips for 3 hours (Oxytocin-induced) to expedite dilation, my gynae was brought in as soon as I dilated to 8-9cm. Then labour starts with the help of a Vacuum Extrator and it finally ended after half an hour.

That's when I heard baby's first cry. She is healthy ; 3.2kg

<imageanchor="1" style="cssfloat: left; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5279/5900406345_6e8964ee84.jpg" width="266" />

Meet our baby girl, Jocelyn Tan. Picture was taken in the labour room a few minutes after she was born. She was in my womb for 40 weeks and finally out to say "hi" to the world. Husband captured this very beautiful moment ; my very first touch of our baby. My baby girl smiled at her father who was holding a compact digital camera in the labour room. Afterward, she was taken away to pediatrician for further check.

<imageanchor="1" style="cssfloat: right; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" i$="true" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6039/5900439177_3dfdee8b76.jpg" width="251" />

As soon as she's taken away by the nurse, I waited for another contraction and delivered my placenta. It has been the life-support system for my baby for 40 weeks. Gynae also cleaned remaining blood clots and did a scan of my uterus to check if there is anymore blood clots.

I had heavy period for the first three days, subsequently getting less and now I'm just on panty liner during the second week. I'm in confinement at the moment, we have a confinement lady to help out in preparation of food, do light house chores, and take care of baby day and night.

P.S: Today is my sister's birthday. Happy Birthday, Sis. Have a great one and Muakx!!

Proud to annouce that I am at week 39 and 2 days. Anytime soon...everyone keep telling me.

I'm anxious, already nesting and cleaning my house in readiness for the birth. The expected date of delivery is near, am waiting for the sign- blood, water breaks or contraction.

Then I'll ring my husband's cellphone and tell him.."I'm having a baby. Baby is on the way!!!!" aahh..(nervous breakdown + cold feet + pain ; no matter what happened I MUST stay conscious and calm, breath in exhale out- I can do it!)

Before I go for labour tonight / tomorrow, here's my collection of all the ultrasound scans of my baby.

My baby's development : Week by week

<img border="0" height="300" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5194/5852429326_8437d8f634.jpg" width="400" />

Week 7 : Confirming my pregnancy using home kits within three days of missed period. Next, I went to doctor to reassure and was offered the first ultrasound scans. Baby's relatively small, could only see the sac (doctor calls it a pocket) which further confirms pregnant. (My weight : 43.2kg, stomach feeling bloat and uncomfortable)

Week 9 : Look closer, can you locate baby inside the sac? This week, baby has a face with nose, mouth and tongue. (My weight : 42.6kg, losing weight because of morning sickness)
His parents are from Taiping and Tangkak (north and south). Both of our parents speak Hokkien (one of the many Chinese dialects).

I met my husband in college, and back then we all talked in Cantonese. Cantonese is another Chinese dialect, commonly used in KL city. Subsequently, it became our main conversation language.

Since we have mixture of both dialects, I'm not exactly sure which dialect to start off with baby at home but we will definitely use Hokkien when addressing our parents.

To avoid confusion, I came out with a diagram as guideline. Blue represents my husband's family. Pink represents my family. This is just level one, I will be adding more to it later on as I figure out how to address great grandma, aunts, uncles, cousins and all.

Level One : Paternal and Maternal

Father's father : Lai Kong
Father's mother : Lai Mah
Father's brother : Tua Pek (eldest), Tua Mm (his wife)
Mother's father : Gua Kong
Mother's mother : Gua Mah
Mother's sister : Ah Yee (younger), Ah Tiaong (her husband)
Mother's brother : Ah Ku (younger), Ah Kim (his wife)

The above are supposed to be the exact name calling but because both consist of "Kong and Mah" hence difficult for baby to remember such long names. Imagine if someone decides to drop the word "Lai or Gua" instead says "Go find ah mah..", who should she find? - very confusing, right?

I figured the options below are better.

<img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5263/5852141078_19ae310f43.jpg" width="320" />
In addition, for people below age 21 : to be addressed as jie jie or kor kor.
Subsequently, older or same age as husband and I / married : to be addressed as aunt, auntie, aunty, or uncle.

For those who are not married yet, I truly understand when some kid addresses you as "auntie", is quite depressing but if you ignore the above as rule of thumb and insist we should call non-married people as jie jie / kor kor, then try imagine there's a kid calling a 40 years old lady who is not married - "Hi, jie jie..how are you?".. doesn't sound right, don't you think so?

Happy Father's Day to all dads, you deserve a nice weekend!!

A few days back, I even imagined celebrating it with husband in the hospital together with baby. But, my baby doesn't want to come out on father's day yet. Well, this year I tried to keep things simple as my due is very near. I have two fathers to take care of now.

Father #1 : (my father. aka daddy)
My brother and I went shopping for gift last weekend and we bought dad a wrist watch. All three siblings are sharing. Bro topped up a big card for dad and my sister spent dinner. They went for dinner without me.

Later in the evening, my brother texted me, " I gave dad the watch already. He's very happy, wearing it even when he's watching TV. He told us, ALBA was the first watch he got from our late uncle last time."

I'm really glad daddy likes it.

Father #2 : (father-in-law. aka papa)
I didn't get anything for my father-in-law, we have German cuisine dinner instead. Papa enjoyed the pork knuckle and brought the big bone home for neighbour's dog.

<img border="0" height="116" i$="true" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2586/5851809748_11d328a2f2.jpg" width="400" />

It feels really good to spend some quality time with parents. Soon, we will need a bigger table to accommodate the whole family. My baby and ChengYi (sister-in-law) will be new addition to the family. ChengYi and Ming will be coming back from Abu Dhabi as soon as their work contract ends and their R.O.M is in this year too.

I slept at 4:00am yesterday and woke up at 9:30am today. Didn't get much sleep and rest. Other than the birth anxiety, I am worry of my husband coping with his business. He has pile of work stacking higher everyday yet not making him any profit and harder to sustain the business. Pity him has to struggle on his own to earn a little money for living.

Knowing that I shouldn't be thinking about all these, instead need to relax and rest my mind preparing for the birth of our little princess. I just couldn't help it.

Despite all the stress he is going through, I am glad and very thankful to him for being such a great husband and boss who let me take off until my labour.

Also, thanked my brother who willing to help us and temporarily take over my job.

I am very thankful to all the people, be it parents and friends who have shown me so much concern.
All of my friends had early delivery than the expected due date, some a week and even two weeks earlier. So, I should be expecting the same too.

At the moment I am waiting. Waiting for my little princess to signal me for labour.

Feeling very anxious, yet very afraid of the unknown.

Mother says be prepared for extreme pain. Husband says go for epidural to enjoy painless labour.

Doctor says must breastfeed baby. My breast says unsure about the production of milk.

Baby is ready to go through the birth tunnel. I am not exactly ready or prepared to meet her.

I assume what I am going through now is normal. Nevertheless, very sure this is going to be a truly fantastic journey when she arrives.

Much freedom, convenient and cosier in own territory.

We already have a little kitchen in our living hall and is not for extensive cooking. We didn't thought we'll be cooking except simple meals or instant noodles. When cooking occurs (fry one egg), all oil residue will trap inside the house hence oily floor which requires at least twice mopping.

To accommodate confinement lady to cook for me, we turned our storage yard into wet kitchen. Husband agreed to renovate, also spent on hood, hob, kitchen table and cabinet.

Kitchen top and cabinet (bought in Ikea) : Checked
Hood (bought in Onking): Checked
Hob (bought in Onking) : Checked
Gas cylinder (Shell) : Checked
Kitchen wall protective sheets (bought in Daiso) : Checked
Washing machine cover (bought in Giant hypermarket) : Checked
Utility rack cover (sewed by mama, my mother-in-law): Checked
Kitchen accessories : Checked

Apart from the doors for the lower kitchen cabinet which CT Art (Ikea's installer) supposed to come and complete their installation last week but they didn't come.

My kitchen is ready for some action!!

Today I went to the nearest mart and handpicked a few fresh ingredients. Mainly because I want to test out my new kitchen, and secondly, to provide myself a healthy home-cooked meal (doctor says I MUST avoid food contains sugar and carbohydrate because my previous urine tests shown very high sugar levels).

Probably I have eaten a few chocolate bars, sweet candies and some junk food for the past two weeks before the tests. So, this week I am avoiding all of it totally and hoping my next urine tests will return to normal.
I'm at week 37 today. During my last check-up with Dr Loo, foetal position is head down. This week reminds me that I have an appointment with her to check for dilation. Some people say by walking, others by having sex to help progress or help jump start labor.Sexual stimulation can help produce oxytocin to help naturally induce labor.

I am hoping mine to dilate at least 2cm.

I walk a lot. Not at all a lazy bum.

Sex wise, hmm..mentally interested but the down part is not lubricate which kills my interest. We've tried applying lubricant but it dries up very quick and become sticky. Any recommendations?

We were at Columbia Asia Hospital for their April's Antenatal Class 8:30am to 3:30pm yesterday. Fee per couple is RM 80 inclusive of two meals ; tea break (tuna sandwich) and lunch (fish and chips). Not to forget each participant were given a bag filled with freebies (milk powder sample sachets, Huggies diapers, brochures and books to read). In sight, parents carrying pink colour bag indicates baby girl, and blue is baby boy. I took the green one because I am not bias.
The lessons were interesting, very informative and I strongly recommend all first time mothers to attend. However if the fee is on the high side for you, certain hospitals provide free classes. My favourite lesson is Antenatal Exercise & Breathing Technique ; not only did I learn theory, we also participated in the actual exercises training.

Liz Lisa poncho, from my beloved sister for my last year's birthday. Just got it from her, actually.

She mentioned the price several times but I didn't pay much attention - as I was too excited with the fuzzy white collar when she presented it to me.

Aw, she shouldn't have. I sure hope she didn't starve herself in Singapore or used up a big chunk of her savings to get this. Now, I feel guilty for not able to wear it as often. I'm staying in a hot tropical country- Malaysia, you know?

But, it cannot just be left hanging in my wardrobe. Maybe I can wear this at home or in office with air-cond switched to the lowest temperature and air swing fixed on me.

Or, I should increase travel during winter ; Korea, Japan can?

After two years, we're prepared to get pregnant since we're finally settled down with our house and business.

So, we tried for three months- result was : not pregnant, then suddenly it has become so hard. It's not as easy as my mother would say, she got pregnant right away after their first month trial. Maybe, women at those times were more relaxed, simple minded- thus, things come pretty naturally and easily.

Is like, once you've made up your mind to try and get pregnant, so the first month you throw away your birth control, unfortunately it really doesn't work that way even when everything appears to be well timed. The menstrual cycle is more complex and sensitive than I've imagined. Everything has to be lined up just right for the egg to meet the sperm and for that fertilized egg to land in the right spot and produce the right amount of hormones to sustain itself.

On the fourth month, I put effort in reading books, forums and websites, and also seeking some close friends for help and advice. Then, I downloaded a little calendar from the Internet and pinned it with a fridge magnet.

Not to forget to mention the major contributor, my husband- who has been really supportive and cooperative in terms of following the strict schedule of "making baby". His task was challenging, needed him to deposit a unit of healthy strong sperm soldiers on every three days after my menstrual.

Here's what the ovulation calendar says :
07.09.2010 : First day of the cycle (based on 30 days cycle)
18.09.2010 : Best chance of conceiving a girl
19.09.2010 : A little bit fertile, best chance of conceiving a girl
20.09.2010 : Fertile, best chance of conceiving a boy
21.09.2010 : Very fertile, best chance of conceiving a boy
22.09.2010 : Time to ovulate
02.10.2010 : A home pregnancy test may work now.
06.10.2010 : End of cycle

By the way, we are not picky and choosy over baby's gender, neither have preference on which gender. Whether is a girl or boy, is still our baby and we will love him/her dearly.

I am using this, maybe this site helps you too.

Over the years it has evolved with me as a person – from a young single graduate, charging through life with the persistent pursuit of perfection in everything. To a married woman settling into a new life, home, career and business.

But things have changed.

Hope does exist, all hard work and efforts turn fruitful. A few months ago, finally I see two pink lines.

On a pregnancy test stick, by the way.

And so a whole new online journal begins today.

I want to surprise my husband.

But the difficult part is, we will be going home together in the same car. How am I to create the surprise? Plus, another problem is we do not have a small table at home for me to set up a dining area. Oh, you must be under the impression that we do not have a dining table at home. We do not have a conventional dining table. In fact, we have a kitchen island serves as dining table customised and made by my husband using cement and tiles.

Certain times, I do possess my father's skill to think quick and put it into good use.

Same car, huh..let me think.

I already went out and bought some takeouts prior he picked me up from work. At our apartment's compound, I asked him to drop me off so I could get to the house before him and I ordered him to look for parking alone. At that hour, most of the parking lots nearer to entrance were all taken, his car ended up very far.

Which was perfect, as just enough time for me to prepare and have everything set up well before he pressed our door bell. Aha, my poor little fella is back home- he must be very hungry at almost 9:30pm.

Problem number one was solved. Problem number two; the dining table; was cleverly cover up with my a shawl over a piece of flat container's lid on three wooden stools (a container's lid on three wooden stools = one little dining table).

And taa dah..!!
For your info, the empty chair was my seat and the other side of the table was cut off - I wasn't allowed to capture the complete dining set because someone was shirtless. He's so unclassy, but again if he feels more comfortable being shirtless, I don't mind.

I'm just more than happy he had fun in our little event. Quite felt like playing childhood masak-masak except this one was with real food, top up with music in the balcony overlooking to the night skies. Unfortunately, there wasn't a sight of full moon from our balcony, but good thing is there wasn't any mosquitoes.

Nevertheless we enjoyed this very moment with each other and we hoped next year will be merrier with the presence of new family member.

On my laptop's screen now is almost 11:30pm, hope is not too late to wish you Happy Mid-Autumn aka Mooncake Festival (中秋节快乐) !! ^_____^

Mine? is obviously my side of the wardrobe. And, inside the pink container is some stuff that I have bought with guilt and must hide away from husband until the time is right for exposure.

Yes man, I heard that all the time. I am spendthrift, right!?

However, if you are a woman, you might probably be on my side and agree with me that we should reward ourself after a year of hard work.

I truly believe the phrase Work Hard, Play Hard. To support the phrase, I'm that kind of person who works very hard and reward myself lots too. It keeps me motivated to work harder. The rempah (spices) aroma filled our small living hall has made our day merrier as though we are also celebrating Hari Raya at home.

Nasi Briyani + Kari Udang with Kacang Bottle and Kacang Panjang

While, most of you might still dreaming in bed at this time but I am already wide awake because my Mandarin teacher has scheduled the class to the earliest morning possible so she could finish our 5th lesson asap and speed to hometown (Johor) for family reunion during this long break. Because of that, I have to wake up earlier than my usual working day. fml

While waiting for her, I am looking through some Mandarin words that I have been writing and practising, also taking some time off to blog for a while, and lastly to rest my eyes before she comes.

Mandarin class has lots of homework, especially remembering strokes, it's killing me.

Don't stare at my dark eye circle. I know is really in bad shape. ( grayscaled my picture to save my ugly morning look).

I am very tired- lack of sleep due to someone's car alarm shrill non stop through out the night. The constant noise was torturing me, I wish I had a brick to throw at that car from my balcony so I could release the tension. I guess the owner must have balik kampung, left the poor car crying under the rain.

It was finally over, as the battery was officially dead. Minus the alarm noise, maintain the sound of rain drops, I couldn't be any happier and fell asleep right away.

Ah, my door bell is ringing. Teacher is here. Ciao!

It's durian season again.

And since hubby has been bugging me every time we passed by any durian stalls, I finally decided to give it a try at one of the many stalls near Subang Jaya Wawasan School after our dinner.

In total we had four D24 durians (3 + 1, complimentary from the man boss) shared among the four of us. If you ask me whether RM10 is worth the try, I would say yes. But I highly doubt I would return for it again, at least not within the week.

I am hoping I won’t get sore throat the next day.

By the way, if you are a big fan of the king of fruits, you can try out some stalls located at SS2 serving eat all you can durian for RM 10.

Oh, do keep in mind that only Durian Kampung is served at this price.
