Back-end marketing is the ultimate way to generate revenue for your Internet-based business. It allows you to focus all of your time and energy on people you know and people who have already purchased products from you, rather than on people who do not know you and who may never be interested in your products.

In short, using back-end marketing will enable you to dramatically increase your conversion rates; and it will simultaneously enable you to sell higher-priced products to your clientele, since they will understand that spending a lot of money on your products isn??t a gamble.

Now, back-end marketing is the ultimate form of Internet marketing. But what is the ultimate form of back-end marketing? Personal coaching and live events. Yes, that??s right: if you want to make money hand over fist, you have to be willing to coach others and ensure they get results; and you also have to be willing to stand before crowds, present your techniques, pitch your products, and accept any scrutiny that comes your way.

Personal Coaching

When you first got in the Internet marketing ??business,?? you probably had three goals: 1) to increase your income; 2) to get away from the hassle of dealing with your boss and with customers; and 3) to get out of an office and relocate to your comfortable home.

Unfortunately, I have bad news for you: goal 1 and goals 2 and 3 are in direct conflict. If you really want to earn a large income on the Internet, you must be willing to interact with other people. Not only must you be willing to find and talk to join venture partners, but you also must be willing to take on personal coaching projects, which tend to be more lucrative than selling electronic products via salesletter.

If you want to get into the personal coaching business, you should start by cultivating a handful of clients. If you do not feel as if you currently qualify as a ??guru,?? then you may want to focus your marketing efforts on your newbies. In particular, select the buying cohort that tends to purchase low-level products and offer to give them one-on-one or small-group coaching sessions. You can do this through a teleconference, through email, or via instant message. It doesn??t matter which medium you select??just make sure that you provide useful and timely information.

Live Events

Just like personal coaching, live events will probably push you well outside of your Internet marketing ??comfort zone.?? You will actually have to interact with human beings and your products might come under severe scrutiny from undecided buyers.

Don??t despair. While live events may be uncomfortable and may throw a wrench in your routine, they also offer the promise of far greater wealth generation than selling electronic products. So do yourself a favor: next time a live event comes up and there are multiple speakers, volunteer to be one of the speakers if you get the chance. Additionally, consider going to live events and setting up joint ventures with the marketers there, so you all can hold a live event for your own frequent buyers.

Conclusion

Personal coaching and live events are two excellent ways to generate revenue through back-end marketing. Next time you get the chance to do either, take it??and make an attempt to involve the sub-section of your customer base that will be most interested and most likely to buy.

One of the people who has been a great influence on my ebook business is a guy named John Thornhill. He is a Platinum eBay Powerseller who has taught literally thousands of people how to make a successful living selling digital products on eBay.

One of his sites where he teaches people about selling ebooks is a members only website called ninetydaypowerseller.com. He’s been running it since 2004 and I have been a member there for the last couple of years. Following the recent changes to eBay’s policy on downloadable digital products, he has completely revamped his site to enable people to take advantage of the changes. So if you’re looking to start a business selling ebooks on or off of eBay I suggest that you take a look at John’s membership.

The ninetydaypowerseller.com membership comes in 3 main parts and provides the following features:

Part 1 - Ebay

You get every single product that John currently sells on eBay plus more.

You get every single product that John will buy in the future. You will never have to pay for another eBook again. He adds at least 3 eBooks per month to the members area, usually more.

I can pay up to $97 for a single eBook and you get them all free with this membership.

John will show you how to set-up everything, from listing your first product to creating an information product that can bring in $1000s.

You will find out the secrets that most other PowerSellers DON’T know.

John will give you 24/7 support and advice. If you run into problems just contact him.

You will be provided with listing templates; simply copy them, edit them as you wish and paste them into your eBay listings.

NEW! You will be provided with CD Rom templates; simply copy them, edit them as you wish and use them to create fantastic looking physical products.

You get everything you need to run your eBay business. Simply copy all John’s listings, replace his details with yours and send them out to your customers. He will also provide you with the best way to package your own info product that can bring in £100s per week.

What you are buying is a complete package, John’s experience and his support.

Part 2 - Ebook Website

Do you know how much it costs for your own professionally designed website? It can run you up to $10,000

Don’t worry though! John provides you with your very own professionally designed website!

It comes stocked with the Best Selling eBooks on the Internet! Once you are setup correctly, it becomes fully automated! You’ll love the auto-pilot features as it makes you money while you sleep!

Just sit back and watch the money roll in…

You will also receive FREE Life-Time Updates! When John updates the site, you can update yours. Therefore, you are getting a website that will grow and grow and make you more and more money as time goes by!

This is NOT like the other eBook websites you may have seen where the seller takes a percentage of your earnings or promotes their own product through some crazy membership scheme.

This is your very OWN website that you own, run and promote. You keep 100% of the sales and profits this website generates for you!

From single sales to package sales, you keep every red cent.

You can edit this site in any way you want via the easy edit control panel and charge what you want for your products in any currency!

You can add your own products, use it to build a list and even generate an affiliate income. On complete auto pilot.

Is that powerful or what?

Part 3: Affiliates

Affiliate Marketing is accomplished when you send visitors to a website, and they go on to make a purchase… then you earn a commission from that particular sale.

This commission can be as high as 75% of the sale!

John will show you how to really boost your income daily by taking advantage of these affiliate programs.

He will show you his DEEP Underground Tactics for really raking it in!!

Once you are inside the program, these types of strategies will blow your mind! You’ll have to see for yourself once you jump on board with the program.

John will show you how to create a product that will earn you money for years to come… for doing absolutely nothing!

I have no hesitation in recommending Johns membership site to anyone who is looking to make their first step online. As part of the relaunch, John is currently offering the membership for an incredible price:

SPECIAL LIMITED TIME OFFER! JUST $67 FOR LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP!

The special re-launch price of only $67 will be valid untill Tuesday 20th May 2008. Then the price goes up to $167. Don’t delay, order now!

Due to the forthcoming change in eBay policy, which effectively bans downloabable digital products from being sold on eBay except in the classified ads format, I have been receiving a lot of questions from people interested in setting up an E-book store on their own website,

One of the most common questions has been “How difficult is it to install an e-book store on my website?” To help answer this, I have made a series of videos the show you how easy it is to install the fully automated e-book store that I sell.

You can view the videos here:

Click Here To View Part 1

Click Here To View Part 2

Click Here To View Part 3

The advantage of having your own e-book store is that it will allow you to continue to offer all of your digital products as instant downloads direct from your own website. Also, the linking policy on eBay allows you to place links to your own website from the About Me page so that you can still use eBay to drive traffic to your downloadable items, albeit indirectly.

The other main option that people are considering in the face of the eBay policy change, is to transfer their digital products onto CD and then sell them as physical products instead. This is something that I will also be experimenting with because, as well as advertising and selling the physical item itself, you can use the listing to drive people to your About Me page and from there, again, you can link to your ebook website.

Here’s an overview:

Buy it Now Auction —–> About Me Page ——> Ebook website

Here is an example of a message that you could put in the Buy it Now Auction listing:

——————————–

For details on how you can reach our website and view our full range of downloadable products and also to find out how you can get 20 FREE e-books in the process, visit my About Me page!

——————————–

And, here is anexample of the sort of message I would put on my About Me page:

——————————–

To reach our website and view our full range of downloadable products and also to find out how you can get 20 FREE e-books in the process, follow the link below:

Click Here To Visit My Ebook Shop

——————————–

If you are interested in setting up your own e-book store, I’d recommend that you take a look at the one that I am offering.

Click Here To View A Live Demo

It comes complete with 250 e-books already preinstalled and it’s written using php which means it’s fully automated. i.e. the customer adds items to their shopping basket, then goes to the checkout, pays via Paypal and is then automatically sent an email with an encrypted link to download their e-books.

This all happens on auto-pilot - you don’t have to do anything other than promote your shop. You can easily add new e-books with a few mouse clicks and they will show up in the New Downloads section.

There is also a Featured Section which constantly rotates all of your e-books at random so that when customers return to your site they will always see different items. You can also set up different e-book categories to group all of your items together and keep everthing organised and easy to find.

There are loads more features but these are just some of the highlights.

You can read more detail at this page:

Click Here For More Information About The Fully Automated Ebook Store

On 24th March 2008, eBay announced that “To preserve the integrity of the Feedback system, effective March 31 all goods that can be digitally downloaded or transferred electronically must be listed using the Classified Ads format.”

You can read the full announcement here:

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/core/200803.shtml#2008-03-24125416

Not surprisingly, this has created a huge reaction from eBay sellers which ranges from ’shocked and surprised’ to ‘outraged’ but there are also those at the other end of the spectrum who see this as a positive move and are seeking to exploit new opportunies out of it.

I’m firmly in the second camp! Life is about change and we can whinge and whine about it but it won’t make it any better. When there are shifts in a market like this there are always people who are able to benefit from it. These are the people that ‘think outside the box’ and approach the new situation with a positive mindset.

I do feel sorry for anyone that has built a significant business selling digital products using eBay and now feels that they have had the rug pulled from under them but they will need to adapt fast or their business will die.

I have been reading many of the forums and blog posts discussing this change in policy and there have already been many alternative approaches put forward. To save you the time of searching through all of the comments and forums etc., I’ve summarised the main options that are emerging below. I’ve also listed the pros and cons of each idea based purely on my own thoughts - you’re welcome to add yours by commenting at the end.

I will try and update this list regularly as the situation becomes clearer but for now this is the concensus of ideas doing the rounds.

Option 1

Use eBay classifieds to advertise digital products.

Advantages:

This is what eBay wants and so it does not violate any of their terms and conditions

There are no listing or final value fees payable to eBay

The ads will appear in eBay item searches and in your eBay listings and eBay store

There is a fixed fee of $9.95 for each ad and this buys you 30 days of advertising. Depending on how many visitors your ad attracts, this could be more cost effective than other advertising methods such as Pay Per Click (PPC) using Google Adwords for example.

There appear to be no fixed policies on what can be included in a classified ad (N.B. This will almost certainly change in time!). So you can put an opt in box on the ad and collect subscribers that you can subsequently sell items to outside of eBay. You can even put a Paypal buy it now button on the ad and direct people to buy directly from there. You can link to your e-book website outside of eBay and sell items directly from there.

Classified ads are promoted by eBay as a method of lead generation and this is precisely what many e-book sellers were using eBay for anyway. (That is why you could buy e-books for just 1 cent. The seller was using it to get a lead which he could then upsell).

Disadvantages:

You will not receive a feedback rating from the buyer.

All sales are handled totally outside of eBay which may put some buyers off.

Together with the point above about a lack of feedback buyers may be more wary about trusting you as a seller.

It also means that these sales will not count towards Powerseller status.

The prominence of your advert and therefore the amount of visitors your ad will receive is totally dependent on the keywords in the title of your ad.

It would be more expensive to run several ads every 30 days compared to the previous cost of listing multiple items.

Option 2

Transfer digital products to CD / DVD and sell them as physical items

If you want to go this route, a lot of the work can be taken out of the process by outsourcing the CD burning, packaging and delivery so that sales remain automated.

One company that offers this type of service is Kunaki.com and several people have also developed a plug-in script that work with their service to make it totally automated.

How to Automate CD Production & Delivery: I’ve created some videos that walk you through how to set up your products with Kunaki. You can view them at my blog by following the link below:

Click Here To View My Videos On Outsourcing CD Production.

You may also want to take a look at the plug-in scripts:

http://thediscbuddy.com/wso/

http://softwareking.us/pro/kunaki.htm

Also, David Lovelace has a special report out that talks about converting e-books and digital products into CD products and automating the whole thing. You can check it out here:

Click Here For More Information On Dave Lovelace’s Special Report

Click here if the link above isn’t working (it sometimes rotates and displays other more expensive products - good idea. Note to self - I must try that sometime!).

He??s dropped the price to just $10 if you use that link - normally it??s a $27 book. You need this e-book if you are thinking about going the physical product route and let’s be honest, anyone can afford $10. Believe me, it contains plenty of information that will help you make back that cost price many times over!

Advantages:

Sales count towards Powerseller status

You will receive feedback from buyers

This method does not breach eBay policy

Some buyers prefer to receive a tangible item in the post

You can put unadvertised bonuses on the CD

You can include a personal letter along with the CD which will allow you to build a good relationship and offer them other products

You are able to capture the buyers name and address details so that you can follow up with direct mail offers in the future

You can outsource the production and packaging of the CDs so that the process is totally automated

Disadvantages:

Additional costs of CD, packaging and postage may put some buyers off

Time involved in creating CDs, producing labels and covers, packaging them and then taking them to the Post Office. (If you do not outsource all of this)

Additional cost of outsourcing all of the above.

Not as environmentally friendly as a downloadable product. (Materials for the CD, packaging, fuel for delivery etc.)

Not all digital products can be transferred to CD, e.g. Memberships, websites

Some people have also talked about a hybrid approach of listing and selling items as physical products (CDs /DVDs etc.) but then offering a downsell to a digital version by offering to refund the shipping and handling fee if the customer opts for a digital only version. Now, it’s not clear whether this would violate the new eBay policy at this point. My personal view is that I think it would and so I’d be reluctant to try this until it has been confirmed as OK by eBay.

Option 3

Stop selling digital items on eBay and find or create an alternative

Alternatives that have been suggested:

1. Set up an E-book Website

Set up your own e-book website and use eBay classifieds plus other traffic generation methods to send vistors to it.

Anyone serious about selling e-books should already have their own site anyway so this seems like a ‘no-brainer’ to me.

If you don’t have an e-book site of your own, I’m able to offer this fully automated e-book store pre-installed with 50 e-books here.

I’ve dropped the price to just $27 if you use that link - normally it??s a $97 script! PLUS it comes with Master Resell Rights so you can help other e-book sellers out by selling them the same script and charge whatever you wish.

It’s the same one that I use to run my own e-book website and you can see it in action here.

Your own e-book website can be totally automated so that it works hands free using scripts like My Digital Dispatch or SmartDD.

2. Use YouTube for Lead Generation

(Ssummarised from Jason Shepherd on John Thornhills PlanetSMS blog)

Use YouTube as an alternative lead generation source.

There are countless hundreds of thousands that come to YouTube on a regular, often daily or weekly basis.

They then find your videos by typing-in a search query on the site. For example, if you have a video on ??Tatoos,?? then when somebody typed in this term, they might find your video.

Traffic from YouTube.com starts coming-in within mere hours of submitting your video.

Listings from inside Google, Yahoo, and MSN for prized terms. Google loves YouTube videos and often gives them prized search rankings.

It??s often far easier to get a listing for a top keyword by submitting a video to YouTube than it is to create a web page on your own new website for that search keyword.

The traffic you get from search engines is almost always going to be much higher quality than that from just YouTube.com searchers.

Other website owners picking-up your videos for distribution. When you upload a video to YouTube, you have the option of allowing others to put it on their websites or blogs. And this is common!

If they do, this can cause an avalanche of targeted traffic. The readers of that blog will view your video, check-out your website, and possibly republish your video if they have a blog or website!

Jason’s product teaching people how to do all of this can be found here.

3. Use Alternative Auction Sites

Here are the sites I’ve seen listed in various posts. (I’ve not used any of them as yet so I can’t comment on how effective or useful they are. If anyone has tried them please add your comments below. Thanks)

http:/Ebid.net

http://www.globalbidstore.com

http://ozauctionsonline.com/

http://www.BooCooBay.com

Also, check out the complete UK online auction sites guide - http://www.auctionlotwatch.co.uk/auction.html

And here’s the US version - http://www.auctionlotwatch.co.uk/usauctions.html

The advantages and dis-advantages with this option are pretty obvious I think! Using alternative auction sites will certainly allow you to continue selling digital products in the same way as you do today but eBay is the biggest auction site in the world and so you are very unlikely to receive the same level of interest on these other sites. Not yet at least!

Option 4

Stop selling digital items all together

This is the doomsday scenario and unfortunately there are plenty of people who are comtemplating this option. Maybe that’s a good thing for the rest of us that remain as it will reduce the competition and to be honest if people give up at the sign of any difficulty or change then how committed were they in the first place?

At the end of the day everyone has to make their own decision on this but this is not an option that I will be taking. There is still a huge and growing market for digital information products and just because one avenue of distribution has been closed off it does not mean ‘game over’ for e-books.

Why Sell e-Books?

Here at MyNetBooks we just love e-books and for a number of very good reasons.

1. Cost

Because e-books are digital items and not physical items they cost very little to create i.e. there are no printing costs, no paper costs, no artwork costs etc. If you write the e-book yourself then your only investment is your time. This means that e-books can have some of the biggest profit margins of any items sold on the internet!

2. Delivery

Also, because they are not physical items there are no postage costs to pay. The item can be delivered digitally, either by email or by downloading it from a website. The best thing, however, is that all of this can be automated so that the buyer receives their item instantly without waiting and without you having to do a thing.

3. Automation

I use a product called MyDigital Dispatch to automate the delivery of all of my ebooks. You can find more details about it here (a new window will open). I can’t say enough good things about this little piece of software! You set it up once with your ebook inventory and items for sale and it then takes care of delivering all your digital items instantly and totally automatically for you after your buyers pay. There are also several other pices of software on the market that perform thae same task such as DLGuard and SmartDD and you can even use Outlook Express which comes free with Windows. I will cover how to set this up to automate your e-book deliveries in a future issue.

4. Market

Another great aspect of selling e-books is the fact that you can sell them worldwide, as anyone with access to a computer anywhere in the world can buy them and then download them instantly after payment. This means that the potential market size is literally in the millions and with eBay® you have the perfect market place in which to find them!

5. Resell Rights

You may be thinking at this point, yes that’s all great but I don’t have any e-books of my own that I can sell in this way. Well think again! There are thousands of e-books available to buy right now with what are known as ‘resell rights’. In simple terms, items that come with resell rights mean that you are authorised by the e-book author to resell the e-book and keep all of the profit yourself. Now there are lots of different types of resell rights and I don’t have space in this issue to cover all of the in’s and out’s but I will come back to this topic in a future issue of the newsletter. Just for now look out for e-books that are advertised with resell rights and then read the terms of the licence that accompanies the book very carefully to ensure that you understand what you can and can’t do with it.

All of the free e-books that you can download below come with full resell rights which means that you can resell them and keep all of the profits and you can also pass on the resell rights to your customers and so on.

6. Marketing Tool

So why would an author grant resell rights in the first place? Surely that means that they will miss out on all of the profits from the e-books being resold by other people? Well that’s certainly true, but e-books serve another purpose - they are an incredibly powerful internet marketing tool.

Just think about it. You write an e-book and include in it some links to your website or your eBay® store and then you sell the e-book (or even give it away!) with full resell rights. People will then buy and sell your e-book and before you know it there are literally thousands of copies of your ebook being bought and sold all over eBay and the internet and therefore thousands of potential customers looking at your website.

This is sometimes known as ‘viral marketing’ because the process is very similar to the way in which a biological virus spreads by being passed from one person to another and multiplying exponentially as it does so.

Summary

So to sum up, e-books are inexpensive, require no physical postage, can be delivered instantly and automatically and can be used as an incredibly powerful marketing tool. That’s why, if you look on eBay® for digital or ‘information’ items you will find that they are one of the most popular things being sold, due to all of the reasons I have outlined above. So, isn’t it about time you tried selling e-books?
