Go to the main MySpace page if you ever get an email from MySpace asking you to log in. Phishing scammers use links in emails to bait their victims into entering their account information. Even though the site may look authentic, it could very well be a copy and be a trap set up by scammers. The best way to avoid this is to not click on the email links and to go directly to MySpace every time you log in.

Change your MySpace settings to not receive emails from MySpace. To do this, you need to turn off notifications. From your MySpace homepage, click on "Account Settings" and then "Notifications." Make sure both boxes are unchecked. This way, you can know that any email you receive that appears to be from MySpace is a fake.

Download an anti-phishing toolbar for your internet browser, or an anti-phishing program. The toolbars, when implemented, will alert you when you're going to a website that appears to be a phishing site. The programs have similar alerts. Do a search in your favorite search engine for these toolbars and programs; there are many that are free to download.

Report any emails, bulletins or comments that appear to be phishing to MySpace. Click on the "Contact MySpace" link at the bottom of the MySpace homepage to report a phishing scam. This cool widget also works around the world – and it’s free! So, not only are you going to save time and aggravation, you could potentially save some money too if your cell plan charges on a per message basis.

Do a Google search for TextForFree – all one word. When your results come back, choose one of the first ones to go to the web site where you can download the widget. Once you are at the page, make your choices carefully, or the code that is generated will probably not work properly.

Let’s get started. First, type in your cell phone number. Next, you will see the words Button Text, with a box beside them that you are to type into. What’s this for? Simply type in a few words you’d like to appear on a button that will be on the widget. This author chose to put “Text Me!” on the button. Next, you’ll see the words Default Message Text. This one is pretty obvious… type in a short message like “Hi There!” Now, you will choose your cell phone provider. Click the button to fill it in beside the one your phone is with. Now you can click on the words Get Code.

There’s your code! Now, all you have to do is copy and paste this code into your MySpace profile.

Go to MySpace and click on the Edit My Profile link. When you get to the editing page, choose an area to paste the code into. Many people place the code in the About Me section. In fact MySpace makes it incredibly simple for members to add music to their profiles. The steps to add music to a MySpace profile are as follows:

- Log into your MySpace account

- Listen to the music available and select a suitable song for your profile
- Click on the link that says “Add” below the song title
- The music is then automatically added to your profile

It is important to note that users can only add one song at a time to their profile. Clicking the “Add” link on a second song will result in the original song being replaced on the profile by the new song. Songs can be removed from a profile at any time by going to the “Edit profile” section of your account and entering the “Profile songs” subcategory. Adding videos to MySpace is also not as difficult as it seems. Even those with no HTML skills can add videos produced by other members or even their own videos to their MySpace profile. The steps to add a video to your MySpace profile are as follows:

- Log into your MySpace Account
- From your MySpace homepage, click on the “Add/Change Videos” link
- You are then taken to another webpage where you can either search through a database of previously uploaded videos or upload your own video
-To search the database, click on the search videos button and browse through the available videos
- After watching a video you can add the video to your profile in a couple of ways. First you can click on the “Add to my profile” button or you can copy the source code provided and paste this code into the desired location on your profile.

Alternately you can add your own videos to your MySpace profile by first uploading them to MySpace and then adding them to your profile. When uploading a video care should be taken to ensure the video does not violate the terms of service.

The very first time after you create your account and you log on to your new MySpace account, you will find that you are faced with a round of generic very boring MySpace pages, which thankfully enough, you have the ability to change into something far worthier of your name. For this reason, choosing the proper MySpace skins to go with your personality is something that you might want to look into.

MySpace is a free online community composed of personal profiles aimed foremostly at a younger membership. A MySpace profile typically includes a digital photo and in-depth information about personal interests. The amount of detail included in the profile is up to the user and submitted voluntarily. MySpace policy requires users be at least 14 years of age to join. Members routinely send each other messages and “network” or socialize within the MySpace community.

The format of MySpace makes it easy for anyone to submit profile information, even if they have little online experience. Though the domain has proved incredibly popular, reportedly hosting over 60 million profiles, it has also come under fire. The concern is that the vast majority of MySpace members may be too inexperienced to realize the potential danger of posting personal information online. Some profiles contain not only a picture, but the user's first and last name, location, and details like favorite music and foods.

Pros
- Big Network: If you are looking to meet or find people MySpace is a good place to look. There are lots of people on MySpace so finding people there is easy.
