Getting to Myspace on a network that has blocked access is a very hot topic here. We've provided several different articles and lists of proxies but some of you are still having troubles due to restrictive network security. If you are not afraid to get technical and geek out then you might want to try setting up an SSH tunnel to your home network which can be used to freely and privately browse any website you want. Here is an excellent article containing a step by step tutorial for setting up an SSH tunnel.

MyHeritage.com has a really cool little widget that uses facial recognition software to compare a picture of you to pictures of thousands of celebrities to determine which celebrities look the most like you. You can display the results on your profile in a widget containing a collage of you and all the celebrities that look like you. It works remarkable well. Check it out!

Stickam has an excellent widget for adding video chat to your myspace profile. All you have to do is sign up for an account install a little app on your desktop and embed some widget code in your layout and voila, live video chat with your profile visitors. This would be a really cool thing to see on a comedian or musician profile. They could broadcast live exclusive performances on their myspace profile. Very cool, check it out.

Sometimes it can take years to download a user's entire profile, especially if they have a really sophisticated layout or if they have tons of comments and pictures. Most times I just want to get the basic information about a user to decide if I want to add them to my friends list. Enter Browster 2.0.

Browster is a little browser extension available for Internet Explorer and Firefox that allows you to preview a profile before you visit it. All you have to do is hover over the link to the profile and it pops up a window with preview information including pictures, basic profile information and music player for musician profiles. Browster allows you to surf Myspace a hundred times faster. Browster will work with any website that you visit but seems especially well suited for Myspace. Usually I'm not a big fan of "web optimizer" type apps because they ultimately slow things down but Browster really does make browsing Myspace alot more efficient. Check it out!

I have musical ADD. I can't listen to the same song twice and alot of times I can't even get through a single song. It bugs the hell out of me when I visit my friends' profiles and hear the same song over and over again. One way to solve that problem is to add a radio station to your profile. I just added a stream of one of my favorite online radio stations, KEXP to my profile. KEXP almost never plays the same song twice which takes care of my musical ADD problem. The folks over at Snapvine have come up with this sweet MySpace add on that allows you to add voice comments to your profile. Your friends can visit your profile and leave a voice comment or listen to comments other friends have left in the same way that they leave text comments. Very cool!

As an aside, Snapvine offers some really cool service for your cell phone such as wake up calls, voice mail messages, and a ton of hilarious premade message calls that you can send to anybody. My favorite is The Breakup Bitch for people who are too spineless to break up with their significant other in person.

Found this great new widget called ZingFu that is more fun than a barrel of monkeys! I've been messing around with TuneFeed lately and I'm very impressed how easy TuneFeed makes it to share your mp3 and other music files. All you have to do is upload the files to TuneFeed, create a playlist, and copy a little bit of script into your layout and voila! You can share all of your favorite mp3s on your myspace profile with TuneFeed. The player that it embeds in your profile is nice looking and easy to use. It also supports RSS so your syndicatoin friends can just subscribe to your tune feed and receive updates when you add music. Check it out!

One thing you might want to know is where in the world the people that are viewing your MySpace are from. After all, its crucial for me to know if the Swiss or French babes are checking me out. Well Geo Visitors is a little web app that will track where your MySpace visitors are coming from and show you a nice Google map of the world with all of your visitors. When somebody visits your MySpace, a little pin is put in a map of the world that represents all the visitors to your MySpace. This works on any web page, but is especially cool for MySpace. To add your own map to your MySpace all you need to do is the following:

1. Login to your MySpace
2. Select the "Edit My Profile" link
3. Under the "Interests And Personality" tab, select the "Edit" link next to the area of your MySpace that you'd like to display your Geo Visitors button, I chose to put mine in the "I'd Like To Meet" tab.
4. Copy and paste the following code into the textarea.

5. Select the "Preview" button and if you can see your Geo Visitor button and everything else looks alright with the section then select the "Submit" button. Thats it, you are done!

Then let the script run for a few days and come back to your MySpace and click on the link. You will then see a nice Google Map showing you where all your MySpace visitors are coming from. You can see the Geo Visitors map in use on Yashi and Wigglie's MySpace. Just look for the tiny Geo Visitors button

Here is a great proxy for accessing myspace if your network is blocking it. It allows you to login to myspace and do everything you'd be able to do if myspace.com was not blocked. This proxy was developed specificly for myspace. What's even better is that it is disguised as an educational site (just click on the Abe Lincoln thumbnail to get to the proxy.)

If you spend alot of time on myspace and want a faster, easier way to use myspace then this article is for you. For those that aren't familiar, Greasemonkey Scripts allow you to tweak the way that a website looks or behaves. You'll need to install firefox and the Greasemonkey

extension and from there its pretty much a cinch. Grease monkey scripts can really make myspace much more fun and easier to use. Here is a list of must have greasemonkey scripts:

Myspace Auto Login - logging in is such a pain so let the auto login script do the work for you!

Media Remover - I can't stand when somebody has a bunch of embed songs and they all play at once or when I'm browsing multiple profiles and your browser crashes from all the crap that is automatically loaded. With Media Remover you no longer have to worry about that sort of thing.

Ad Slicer For Myspace - The most anoying thing about myspace is the ads. Ad Slicer does an excellent job of removing the ads and the space they occupy.

Remove Anything - This is a very customizable script that allows you to remove anything you want including featured music, comedy and ads. Its easy to use and has tons of functionality.

Custom Style Remover - An oldy but goody, this script will strip out the custom styles so that you don't have to be bothered by nasty backgrounds and tasteless fonts.

Myspace Ignore Bulletins - Blacklists or whitelists bulletins from users that you specify.

Cool New People Remover - Removes the "cool new people" box from the homepage.

Myspace Big Images - Makes tiny thumbnails out of really large images.

Myspace View All Friends + - Adds links to the "view all friends" page that allows you to send messages, view pictures and add comments.

MyspaceHax (Re-edited) - Give menu access to myspace profile sections. Makes it much easier to browse profiles and get back to the menu.
