I just saw the new that the great Forrest J. Ackerman has passed. This man was a giant in the world of horror and sci-fi (and yes, he coined that term!). An immense legacy - I hope his personel museum of memorabilia is well taken care of.

RIP.

While we originally blurted out “turtle” - this obviously is not a turtle! Plus our commenter John pointed out how it could not be a turtle as a turtle’s spine is attached to its shell. Thanks for the information John!

You can see the rest of the photos at Cryptomundo.

Now this - well after further examination - looks like a bloated decaying dog.

Well this one is apparently all over the internet.? A creature washed up on the beaches of Long Island New York in the Montauk area.

Wild theories abound…but this has got to be the very best one of all:

We don’t to panic anyone, but a minion of Satan just washed up on a beach in Montauk, New York. The beast looks a bit like a dog with the sharp beak of an eagle, or possibly a shell-less turtle with the dark eyes of a griffin. Either way, it’s definitely a portent of the coming apocalypse.

This quote was found at KRLD originally from a British site Asylum. Of course, these are most likely the type of folks who see Jesus and Mary in their toast.

Here’s the “mysterious” Montauk Monster:

And here’s a map of the area where this beast washed up:

Now we here at Mysterious Earth ain’t the most erudite folks on this planet, but our money is that this is a turtle without a shell (granted bloated from being in the water). Look at the front “hands” and the beak - photoshop a shell over this thing and you have a turtle!

Tonight a total lunar eclipse was visible over North America. Mysterious Earth got you a few pictures shot with a regular digital camera through a binocular lens - not exactly high tech!

Archaeologists from the University of Exeter have discovered the ruins of a Roman fort dating from the first century A.D.

Situated next to St Andrews Church, Calstock, the site is on top of a hill in an area known to have been involved with silver mining in medieval times. University archaeologists became interested in the site when they found references in medieval documents to the smelting of silver at the old castle and next to the church in Calstock.

Discoveries of ancient ruins like this right in the middle of our modern day world is exciting. Just goes to show that ancient mysteries lie right underneath the very ground we walk on day to day! Regardless of what part of the world you live in, there are plenty of ancient mysteries nearby - maybe right in your back yard.

EVP’s (Electronic Voice Phenomena) are definitely one of the areas of the mysterious and paranormal that really stretches your belief. After listening to many of them, we are in no way convinced that EVP’s are voices from the great beyond.

But still, EVP’s are one of the blooming areas of paranormal research. So much so that there is now software to assist you with your EVP recording efforts!

Now this is truly mysterious!!

EVPmaker is an experimental software for the generation of acoustic “raw material” for recordings of paranormal voices on tape, also known as “Electronic Voice Phenomena” (EVP). For this purpose, the program divides any recording of speech into short segments and then plays them back continuously in randomly order. The resulting “gibberish” still sounds like speech, but can’t be understood anymore, and is therefore suited as background noise for EVP recordings. Of course, the program can also be used to generate special acoustical or musical effects.

So maybe we should try our hands at this EVP thing? At any rate you can download this software from here (free software, by the way).

Oh, we discovered this software via the amazing Warren Ellis!

Apparently UFO’s - and lots of them! Well, actually…NOT!

Over 12 sightings of a UFO have been reported from the little ol’ Texas town of Stephenville.

According to The Associated Press, residents reported seeing an object that operated lower to the ground than a plane and had lights unlike an aircraft’s.

Lockheed Martin Corp., which provides many of the aircrafts for the U.S. Department of Defense, has a branch in Fort Worth, just 70 miles northeast of Stephenville.

And one of those wacky professors from the University of Texas by the name of Neal Evans is quoted:

UT professor Neal Evans teaches an astronomy course in which students must prove the likelihood of whether or not extraterrestrial life exists and whether humans on earth could ever come in contact with such life.

Evans said that it is difficult to travel between stars because they are so far away from each other.

“It takes tremendous technology to travel between stars and a large amount of resources,” he said. “Any civilization who could do that would be far beyond us, and I don’t think they would be fooling around in Stephenville.”

To say that it takes tremendous technology to travel between stars elicits a big…duh!!!

Sounds like some low-flying slow-flying airplanes. We’ve seen these low flying airplanes around the Mysterious Earth eastern headquarters here in South Carolina. And honestly, if you’ve never seen them before many folks immediately ask “is that a UFO?”

But there’s an interesting twist to the case of misidentified airplanes. Seems a Scottish psychic by the name of Catherine Brown predicted this on December 11, 2007:

“I see Texas ablaze and a stunning star, like the star from the East rising over the land. I hear the Spirit of the Lord saying to: ‘Watch for cosmic signs and wonders in Texas.’

“He said there will be a cosmological phenomenon that scientists cannot explain, and the media will carry as front-line news.

“People will begin to ask about ‘the Light.’ … For a period of four months — from Christmas to Easter — there will be a window of opportunity for salvations, signs, healings and wonders in Texas.”

Hmmm…coincidence, true psychic powers, or just the cosmos laughing??

If you’re heading that way:
