Lots of us travel over the holidays, but today's show features a story with a unique travel angle. Mystic Aquarium recently acquired seven Beluga whales and four Pacific White-sided Dolphins on loan from the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, where their homes are being renovated. They're going to be at Mystic for about nine months, but the story of their trip here and the things they're going to be doing in Mystic is fascinating. Becky Giantonio of Mystic Aquarium tells us all about it on this episide of the Mystic Country Podcast. This month marks the Third Annual Food and Wine Festival at Foxwoods Resort, during which more than 50 celebrated chefs will perform their magic over a three-day period beginning September 26th. On this program we check in with Dennis Khanh, Vice President of Food and Beverage for Foxwoods, to learn a little more about the event.

In fact, two of the area's best-loved clam shacks recently received some nice accolades from Esquire Magazine. The March 2008 issue of Esquire features a "coast-to-coast list of the finest meals on sliced bread." Three Connecticut sandwiches made the list of 20, including TWO in Mystic Country! Podcast #4: Touring Connecticut Wine Country

Any time of the year is a good time to visit Mystic Country, Connecticut, but there's no doubt that — for many people — autumn is really special. The air is crisp, the leaves turn a hundred shades of red and gold, and and the hustle and bustle of summer gives way to the slower pace of fall.

Many people come back year after year to celebrate the changing colors of the season, and while that's certainly a good enough reason to visit, we've got a few other ideas for you as well.

If you're driving, why not take a self-guided tour of the hill towns and mill towns of Mystic Country, giving you a double dose of the area's history as well as its beauty.

For the slightly more adventurous, one of the most popular activities in the region is the series of annual "walking weekend" tours that will give you a somewhat more close up view of the area.

And along the way, celebrate the harvest season with a visit to one of Mystic Country's many fine vineyards and wineries, or make a day of it by attending a fall festival where you'll learn more about our area's agricultural heritage.

Welcome to the Mystic Country podcast, a travel show about what to do and see the 42 towns and villages that make up this amazing place called Mystic Country, Connecticut. Mystic Country is New England's most interesting and diverse travel destination. So come on in and make yourself at home…

In this episode we'll be interviewing Michael O'Farrell of Mystic Seaport, the premier maritime museum in the world. If you haven't been to Mystic in a while, there are lots of new things to do and see, as Michael will discuss.

We'll also be serving up the sites and sounds of traditional minor league baseball, specifically the Connecticut Defenders, who play in Norwich, Connecticut, host of the 2007 Eastern League All Star Game on July 11th.

For gaming and night life nothing beats Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, and we'll see what's new in the coming months at the two biggest casino resorts in the world.
