Announcement: 0.26 Released

0.26 is now available for download. This is a more modest release than those of the recent past with many of the changes being internal reorganisations required to support future developments.

Notable changes include:

HTTP Live Streaming playback and recording
Conversion of internal times to UTC allowing smoother transitions around daylight savings changes
Several performance improvements to the UI
A greater number of translations (nine) are 100% complete for this release with a few more very near to completion. This number should grow by the time of the 0.26.1 point release.
The usual bug fixes and incremental improvements

0.27 is now under development and should be more exciting release, there will be more about that later.

Announcement: 0.26-beta released

We are happy to announce that 0.26-beta is now ready, although delayed due to some deadlock bugs that took longer to debug than expected.

The release schedule will be updated sometime soon once the beta has had some soaking-in testing time, although the string freeze is still set for August 12.

As part of the attempt to have a shorter release cycle, we have now released v0.26-alpha.

The proposed schedule for the v0.26 release cycle is as follows:

July 15th - v0.26-alpha
- Feature freeze, bug fixes OK, soft freeze on translatable strings.
July 29th - v0.26-beta
- Only critical bug fixes allowed after this date.
August 12th - v0.26-rc0
- hard freeze on translatable strings.
August 19th - either v0.26 (final) or v0.26-rc1
- If any further critical bug fixes required, we cut another RC and wait a week, repeat until no bug fixes for a week.
- When no bug fixes required for one week, we will cut the final release

Announcement: 0.25 Finally Released!

Although we may not be known for using a witty naming scheme, and the version number only increments itself by a single "hundredth" every major release, we're extremely proud to announce the immediate release of what we loving refer to as - "0.25"! It's been 516 days (that's 1 year, 4 months, 30 days) since our last major release, so it goes without saying that a significant amount of work has made its way in to this current release with over 5200 commits making up 0.25.

MythTV version 0.25 includes several significant new features. A few key items to point out - new video acceleration capabilities such as VAAPI and DirectX Video Acceleration 2; expanded and improved audio capabilities including E-AC3, TrueHD, and DTS-HD support; Control your TV and other AV components via CEC (Consumer Electronics Control); enhanced and integrated metadata management capabilities for recordings and videos, and a fully functional API for third-party apps to build upon that can interact with both the frontend and backend - including a HTTP Live Streaming capabilities for delivering video content, in real-time, via the API.

Also noteworthy - MythMusic has been completely re-written and MythVideo is now directly integrated rather than being distributed as a separate plugin. Additionally, MythThemes is no longer maintained as a separate repository – all themes, including third party themes, can now be downloaded directly from the frontend theme chooser.

Announcement: 0.25 Release Slightly Delayed

The release of 0.25 has been delayed slightly by some bugs in the areas of LiveTV and recording from ivtv that we needed just a little more time to finish fixing and testing. We are now targeting Apr 9, 2012 failing any more last minute nasty bugs cropping up.

At long last, we are releasing 0.25-beta. This is the first stage towards a full release of 0.25 (with a target date of April 2). There have been many changes made since the 0.24 releases. For a list of changes, see the Release Notes.

Announcement: 0.24.2 Released

0.24.2, the second release from the stable branch is now available. For a list of fixes made since 0.24.2 see the Release Notes. I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to this release including those providing detailed bug reports and Matt S. for his great work on the release notes.

This time we are not releasing an updated themes tarball. 0.24.1 includes a fully functional theme downloader within the frontend which allows browsing, downloading and installation of all official and most unofficial themes from a remote server. You should use this feature to obtain updates for your preferred theme from now on.

We'd advise all users currently running 0.24.0 to upgrade, those using the 0.24-fixes branch should already have these changes. If you are using packages and you are in any doubt then please ask the package maintainers which version they are providing.

Work on 0.25 is progressing. We will update you on the changes you can expect and a possible release date in due course.

News: New server

We finished the first phase our server migration tonight by moving web and mail services to their temporary home.
Expect there to be some delays and slowness in email while DNS and mail servers catch up, especially if you get your email from Yahoo, AT&T, or AOL.
If you are experiencing any lingering issues by Monday, please speak with xris or beirdo in #mythtv on irc.freenode.net.
Also, it appears that something about the new server has confused our RSS feed and made it resend everything. We apologize for the feed spam this has caused.
