We are back!

Hi folks, it has been a while since we MIA from our blog. Lots of happening for the past 3 months. Actually, we came back to Singapore in March to do our work visa and then we went back to Libya. Kelvin found another local job, we left Libya and we stopover at Egypt and Dubai before we came back for good last month. You may wonder how are we getting on now. Well, we have rented a place in town and we have shifted in on Labour Day! It is a partially-furnished room by ourselves on the 23rd floor and we like the city view very much. I hope to get back blogging soon as I still kept my diary for the past 3 months. So stay tune and I hope to post our photos from Egypt and Dubai soon!

Al Ain

Before we came back to Singapore, we stopped over at Dubai again and this time, we decided to explore this city a little bit more on our own.

After spending a few days in the city, we decided to venture out of Dubai and made a day trip to Al Ain. For a price of 20 dirhams per person, you can take a bus from Dubai and reach Al Ain in less than 2 hours. We have read that Al Ain offers a great retreat to people who want to get away from the intense heat in Dubai.

Upon arrival in Al Ain, we booked a taxi to go to the places we want like the Oasis, Al Ain Zoo where they have a good breed of Arabian and African antelope and many other kinds of animals from exotic countries. We also went to Jebel Hafit or Hafit Mountain which should offer a panoramic view of Oman and other parts of UAE from the summit when the sky is clear. The roads uphill are very steep and winding. To our disappointment , we hardly see any nice views as the air was too sandy and dusty. The Green Mubazzarah park and holiday chalets at the foot of the mountains are a favourite spot for Arab families.

Egypt

Never expected that we had a chance to visit Egypt so soon. When we told our friends that we were going to Egypt free and easy, we received many words of caution from them that we better be extra careful and alert when we moved around this country. I guess the bad experience from Stephanie Sun did have a lasting impact about the security image of the country, especially to Asians like us. Nevertheless we went ahead with our plans and thank god, our trip had been smooth and we didn’t get robbed or kidnapped.

Flight Delay and Sand Storm

We were stucked at Cairo Airport for almost 17 hours, our flight was delayed twice, there were no announcements except that we were served with food and drinks a few times at the boarding area. We heard from some of the passengers that the delay in departure was due to the sand storm at Benghazi.

Dubai Holidays

Yesterday, we went with Evans and her housemates and a friend from Abu Dhabi to do some sightseeing. We went to Dubai Creek, experienced taking the abra (a small wooden ferry boat) across the creek, Bastakia where you get to see windtowers built in the olden days. We also walked past the museum and strolled along the souq areas where you see the spices souq and gold souq. We ended the day at the Mall of the Eimrates, the largest shopping mall outside of North America. You can find not only shops, restaurants, but also an indoor ski slope.

The highlight for today will be the desert safaris! Before that, we went to the Jumeirah Public Beach and you get to see a very nice view of the famous Burj Al Arab Hotel (the sail shape hotel) and Souk Madinat Jumeirah.

A 4WD picked us up at our lunch destination to start our journey to the desert. They drove us all the way to the highest sand dunes and perform stunts and do 'dunes bashing'. Those with faint hearts are advised to hold on to your plastic bags. Check out our photos below and you will know why. After that, you get to see the beautiful sunset and we were brought to the camel farm. You can take free camel ride, free sheesha and heena and go for the bbq dinner around a big arabic tent. The highlight for the night entertainment will be belly dancing.

Arriving Dubai

We decided to stopover at Dubai for 2 days. For those of you who do not know, Singaporeans can get the visitor's visa up to 60 days at the Dubai International Airport.

We arrived at wee hours like 0105 hours in the morning and thanks to our friend, Evans who have kindly agreed to be the host for us for the next 2 days.

On flight

Our domestic flight was delayed by an hour to take off. But this is not the end. We didn't know that the plane actually landed on another domestic airport at Tripoli that we don't even know the name of it. Luckily, we met the brother of a Libyan's colleague and he helped us to hail a taxi to the Tripoli's International Airport.

By the time we reached the international airport, we barely have time for lunch before we check-in. We will transit at Carthage Airport at Tunisia and stopover for an hour before we fly to Dubai.

Ready to go

We will be staying at Alwahat Tourist Hotel at Benghazi tonight because we need to catch an early flight the next day. This is the first time we stay overnight in Benghazi, we thought we can have a chance to walk around the hotel area but by the time we arrived, it is already half past ten at night.
