Strange behaviour

I searched the forums and found no record of this, sorry if it's been posted before.

I purchased and installed myTV last night, all working well. I noticed however occasionally after exiting the program I'd get a black screen with jumbled up vertical scrolling words on it.

Any clue as to what it is and how to get rid of it? I've attached a screenshot.

Fan art enabled for show keeps show from playing when selecting episode. Works fine if no fan art. CLUELESS!

Ok, here's the set up:

Running myTV (most recent updated version) on Windows Vista Ultimate.

Accessing myTV by way of my Xbox 360 serving as a Media Center Extender. This is my primary method. It looks as though we'll be reconfiguring to put the PC itself in the living room after all, and it will be a fresh install of Windows 7. But for now....

Using Transcode 360 to allow me to view pretty much any format.

So, here's what happens:

On the Xbox 360:

As long as I am NOT using Fan Art for a background on an episode select screen, when I select an episode, the green check mark appears, there's a pleasant sound for confirmation of picking something, and the blue circle appears in the center of the screen, spinning as it transcodes video and queues it up. Then the video starts and EVERYTHING WORKS WELL & AS EXPECTED.

On the PC itself:

Same results except that the videos load faster, as they do not need to transcode first.

But, pretty as that is, I wanted Fan Art.

Some shows have it, others don't because there isn't any available yet.

On those with no Fan Art (the big picture background on the episode select screen), everything went fine. This is basically how I narrowed it down to the following.

When selecting a show with fan art, the episodes show up as expected, the art fills the screen, and it's pretty. When selecting an episode though, it appears that NOTHING happens.

The blue circle progress indicator doesn't appear. The green check mark does, but the indicator does not. There is no confirmation sound. And the video doesn't start playing. Well, sometimes it does. But I'm not sure why. I had to back out of that show and back to the myTV main menu before the show magically started. Yes, I am giving plenty of time [10+ minutes] for the video to transcode and queue up.

That's on the Xbox 360. On the PC itself, there is similar behavior. Leaving the episode select screen with the fan art and going to a non-fan art show and starting an episode did something interesting--it started the show, but as it transitioned to the video playing window/screen, I could see a still frame from the other video I had tried to start but couldn't (from a fan art page).

I have NO CLUE what's going on, though I've wondered if the fan art does change things up just enough that the scene selection is a little different and therefore so is the information it sends [to the player, etc.] such that it may fail. Perhaps I need to do a fresh installation. I don't know.

The fan art put me over the top to stick with Windows and VMC / Win 7MC versus linux and XBMC. It's beautiful. Too bad it doesn't currently work for me. Well, the art works. It's pretty. But episode selection and playing does not.

I searched the forums before asking this. Google had no clues either.

Windows 7 x64 and network shares

Hey I haven't posed anything in a while and it was because i have been relatively problem free until have just upgraded to windows 7 x64. I now have a problem and to nerd ass nerd videophiles like us it would be a serious one. So it shows the places where my network shares should be but no name for the shares so I can select them and make it find the files I am hoping this is an easy fix cause some of the files are stored on a roomies networked drive who is letting me borrow some hdd space until I can pick up a NAS drive for my self. Please give me some pointers to help find these shares with mytv it would break my heart if i couldn't make it work cause this is the first proggy that i could find to do what I want where so many others are just so much fail.

V (2009) won't add itself

Today, I added the folder "V" to my TV directory. I opened up myTV and it said there was a new show, as expected. I selected the folder as normal and selected "V (2009)". After which, nothing happened. The series.id file was not created and no messages appeared. I tried renaming the folder to "V (2009)" and the same thing happened.

I have added another show recently as well and that worked fine.

I also tried creating the series.id file manually just in case for some reason it couldn't create it, however it didn't fix it.

How many of us would be considered "Persistant File Sharers"???

What's the best site for TV Torrents? Or what are the advantages of these different sites?

Any invites someone could spare? (I'd offer up a demonoid in exchange but they're still down.)

occasional mytv crash on launching an episode

I am using the latest mytv build on a retail win7 x64 install and all is working fine most of the time...

my problem is intermittent... sometimes when I select an episode to watch, rather than just start the episode and put the focus on the tv show, the episode starts, so I have audio, but I get a popup saying something about an error with mytv and it needs to close... I then need to select ok, and I am back to the mediacenter menu and I need to go down to now playing to watch my episode.

This only happens once a week on average, and has done with every win7 beta I used before my final install. It hasnt been an issue for me, but I just wondered if anyone else gets this problem, and if it is known why it happens, or if anything can be done my end to stop it in the future?

If I can provide any logs with more info just let me know and I will capture it next time it happens.

How Do I Play All Episodes One After The Other?

Hi,

I have just bought this program the other day & after a lot of hassle to install it, all is now working well....

I have switched from Media Browser & I am very happy with everything except I cannot find a way to play all episodes automatically in a TV Series. This is quite an issue to me as my 2 year old loves Charlie & Lola & Peppa Pig etc & they only last a few minutes & have to keep moving on to the next episode manually. I have tried pressing the i button on the remote, but although it brings up another menu it is behind the standard settings menu in media center. Any help would be greatly appreciated or I will have to go back to Media Browser :-(

Problem with new installation on Windows 7 64 bit

I had been using myTV on the pre-release version of Windows 7 Ultimate and everything was working fine.

I have now done a new installation from scratch using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version.

Everything installed OK and I ran the netsh commands etc.

I copied the same settings.xml I had previously been using.

I left myTV overnight to populate the database.

Checking in the morning I found that almost all (or may be all I have so many shows it is hard to tell) but most of them either had no episodes at all although the series is there or just a smattering of episodes (eg Babyon 5 had 5 episodes instead of the whole series etc).

Those series with no episodes added, if I select them you get the "not responding" message.

I therefore this morning did a backup of my "old" database and restored it into my new W7 64 bit system and this worked fine and everything is there as it should be.

myTV will not, however, add any new shows. For intance V from last night is shown in the database but no episodes.

The most recent entries in the event log show:

Hi,

I would like to buy this program & install it on my Win 7 X64 Media Center, but I dont want to sit in front of the tv configuring & adding all my TV programs, I like to do that from my desktop/laptop so I dont hog the TV & use loads of electricity on my 60" Plasma. I currently do this with MyMovies 3, can I do this with MyTV??

I'm new to myTV and I'm not entirely sure what all I need to download & how I should set things up. Here is a break down of my setup -

Windows Home Server - server holds all of my media files (music, movies, recorded TV, ripped TV series, photos, etc) for streaming to computers &/or extenders

Home Theater PC (Win7) - connected to our main TV, stream files from server

2 Desktop PC (Currently Vista, but will upgrade to 7 shortly) - I don't really watch any movies/shows on either of these computers but I do most of my 'media management' from these computers

2 Media Center Extenders (xbox & dlink 2100) - extend media center from the HTPC to other TVs in the house.

So, with that setup what all do I need to download? Is myTV similar to myMovies where I need to install a server version on the homeserver & client versions on the other computers? Oh, ya I have also purchased the 5 client version.... I believe that is what I need since I am installing on multiple computers, correct?

Event 913 - webCollection not updated

I have entered my TVDB id in both mytv and in my profile.. but i'm getting the following error message.. saw someone mention they were having problems with webCollection earlier.. but they weren't receiving any sort of error message.. Is this related? or am i doing something wrong?

CollectionUpload: webCollection not updated as you are not recognized as a valid user. Please make sure you have entered your unique TheTVDB Identifier in myTV and that your myTV license is in order.

Odd log-in Error

When I log in the uper right corner says I am the corect person (hawler) but the main page thinks I am another user, wodrbe, i se his activity, friends, profile pic etc. Not really sure what's going on but i figured I should let someone know about it. Hopefully it'l be fixed soon cause I wanna look at some of my old post.

New install not working as intended

Ok so I had to do a fresh install for windows 7, being the clever man that I am, I forgot to backup the mytv db, all my shows are on the WHS with series.id files in there. ive done a fresh install, ran the netsh commands ( those the first set that is instructed to run gave be a error).

Q1. is there a way to add all the shows quickly with the series.id files ?

Q2. i started adding them manually but only 10 added and the rest don't seem to add at all.

Database on windowshome server

so i've got the database up and running on my WHS and the client on my test box, it's adding episodes fine.

The main thing now is how do i backup and restore my database, i want to do it to one of my shares so i can make use of the folder duplication for back up purposes. But everytime i try to back up to any share i get, cannot open backup device operating error 3, backup database is terminating abnormally.

Help! Base Filtering Engine won't start...

Anyone run into this before? The Base Filtering Engine Service refusing to start giving an access denied error 5 message.

Made no changes to the OS that should have an effect on this either.

Computer is part of a AD network, but it has been since the day I installed it and the BFE error only showed up yesterday out of the blue (after a reboot, but no system changes made beforehand).

Googling it seems like it could be a GPO issue, but I've made no such changes to my AD Controller or Local/Domain policies. Guessing the best thing to do is just reinstall the OS (and all that bloody software) again, but would still like to figure our what caused it to make sure it's not something that will happen again in a week or three's time.

webCollection update queued

When my service runs, the last thing it writes before going to sleep is

"CollectionUpload: webCollection full update queued."

There are no errors or anything, is there somthing i should do to get it to update the webCollection.
i have configured my tvDB id in both myTV and on this site. been a problem for some time now

Iv'e tried to reinstall myTV. i'm running myTV x64 v1.2.09135 on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and using msSQL 08

About to drop the build, but as this is likely to be the last build with new features for some time I wanted to make sure I've got everything covered. So if you are waiting for a feature to be included or a bug to be fixed, please feel free to post a quick reminder here - even if I have already said it's done or is being worked on.

As the TV season is over for most people, for now, I will be spending time on other projects to help pay the bills :) For example there should be a public 'trial' of the myDVD backend available soon.

Run Two MyTVs at the Same Time

Wih the ever growing TV shows on my systems, I'm trying to think of a way to run a Second myTV And to be able to rename it myAnime/Drama. I have a Very Large Collection of both Anime & J-Drama and TVDB.com has most of the info. Question: is there a way to augment myTV or will the owner build somehing like this in the future. BTW Buying more myTV's Is not a Problem It's the best MCE add-on out there.

Can someone please start myTV, scroll down a few shows and open the popup. Close it again and select the show in question (ie. open the season selection screen - in other words it has to be a show with more than 1 season), open the season popup, close it again, go back to the main menu and try to open the show popup again. Does this work or does it crash out?

It crashes here at the moment but I'm uncertain whether it's due to breaking changes or if it's something that's been in there for a while.
