Here is a guide to insal the SopCast player on Ubuntu 13.04. In my previous post about installing SopCast on Ubuntu 12.10 there is a PPA you can use to install SopCast. But at this moment there is no PPA available to install SopCast on Ubuntu 13.04 so you need to download and install the packages yourself.

Optional:
Install the Medibuntu repository and the Ubuntu restricted extras. if you already installed them you can skip this step. To install the Medibuntu repository and the restricted extras open a terminal wind (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy+paste the following lines:

sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get --yes -q --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

To isntall the sp-auth package and SopCast:
First download and install the sp-auth package for your system (32bit or 64bit).

Download sp-auth for 32 bit systems
Download sp-auth for 64 bit systems

When the sp-auth package is downloaded you can install the package (and fix the dependencies) using the terminal window. To install the package open a terminal window (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy+paste the following lines:

cd ~/Downloads/

sudo dpkg -i sp-auth_3.2.6~ppa1~precise3_*.deb

sudo apt-get -f install

After installing the sp-auth package you need to download the SopCast player.

Download SopCast-player for 32 bit systems
If you don’t like the default message box theme from Empathy you should give the Ambiance Adium message style a try. It’s my favourite theme and i have been using it for some years. Installing the theme doesn’t take long and isn’t difficult at all.

To install the theme you first need to make the adium and the message-styles folders in your .local/share folder. To do this open a terminal window (press Ctrl+Alt+T)and copy+paste the following line:

mkdir .local/share/adium/ && mkdir .local/share/adium/message-styles/

To download, extract and move the Ambiance Adium theme to the folders you just made copy+paste the following lines:

cd ~/Downloads/

wget http://gnome-look.org/CONTENT/content-files/146855-Ambiance.AdiumMessageStyle-1.8.tar.gz

tar -xzvf 146855-Ambiance.AdiumMessageStyle-1.8.tar.gz

mv Ambiance.AdiumMessageStyle/ ~/.local/share/adium/message-styles/

When done you can close the terminal window and to use the Ambiance Adium message style click on the Dash Home button and search for: empathy. In the Empathy menu click on Edit -> Preferences and select the Themes tab. Click on the Chat Theme button and select Ambiance. There are some variants available under the Variant button. Click on it and select them to get a preview of the variant and select the variant you like.

Here is a guide to install the GAllium3D drivers, you can install the Gallium3D drivers by adding the <a href="https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/graphics-drivers/" 0="target=_blank"">Oibaf PPA to your system.

Gallium3D is a free software library for 3D graphics device drivers. It has been developed by VMware since they acquired Tungsten Graphics (the original authors) in 2008. The Gallium3D library operates as a layer between the graphics API and the operating system with the primary goal of making driver development easier, bundling otherwise duplicated code of several different drivers at a single point, and to support modern hardware architectures. This is done by providing a better division of labor, for example, leaving memory management to the kernel DRI driver.

Gallium3D has been a part of Mesa since 2009 and is currently used by the free and open source graphics driver for Nvidia (nouveau project), and by the free and open source graphics driver for ATI Radeon R300-R900.
To add the PPA and install the Gallium3D drivers open a terminal window (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy+paste the following lines:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers -y

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libg3dvl-mesa -y

When installed close the terminal window and reboot your system.

To Uninstall the Gallium3D drivers and revert to the default drivers open a terminal window and copy+paste the following lines:

sudo apt-get install ppa-purge -y

sudo ppa-purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

When the Gallium3d drivers are removed close the terminal window and reboot your system.

I had some extra time to take a good look at my layout and the bugs it contained. The “bug” that annoyed me the most was the one that messed up the layout when changing the browser size.

This “bug” was caused by the responsive website option in the layout itself so i to completely removed this option in the scripts because there wasn’t an option to disable it in the layout options itself. It took some time to find the code but now the site stays normal when resizing your browser. I made some changes to the font sizes and the line height on the front page and posts/articles and i also added and removed some plugins for a better and faster page load.

That’s it for now…. have a nice day!

You can download Songbird from this page. When the download is finished open the downloaded Songbird_2.3.0a-2452_linux-i686.tar.gz file and extract the content to a location you want. To start Songbird for Linux go to the folder where you extracted Songbird and to start Songbird double click on the songbird-bin file.
To create the launcher i used alacarte, to install alacarte open a terminal window and copy+paste the following lines:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:diesch/testing -y
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install classicmenu-indicator alacarte

For some reason alacarte doesn’t seem to work well without the classicmenu indicator that’s the reason why you have to install it. To start the classicmenu indicator click on the Dash Home button and search for: classicmenu

The classicmenu indicator is a gnome 2 like drop down menu that makes it possible to start programs. Once started the icon will appear in the indicator area next to your clock.

Here is a guide that will explain how to create window placement rules, with these rules you can assign a workspace to a program.

After creating the rules Thunderbird will open on workspace 2, your Ubuntu Software Center will open on workspace 3, the CompizConfig Settings Manager on workspace 4 and so on. To use this option you need to have the CompizConfig Settings Manager (CCSM) installed. If you already have CCSM installed you can skip the first step.

If you don’t have CCSM installed installed on your system you might as well install the extra plugins for Compiz. To install it open a terminal window (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy+paste the following lines:

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-plugins-extra -y

When installed you can close your terminal window and to start CCSM click on the Dash Home button and search for: ccsm

To create a rule follow these steps:
3. Click on the Fixed Window Placement tab.
4. Click on the New button (Windows with fixed viewport section).
5. Change X Viewport Positions and Y Viewport Positions.
6. Click on the + button.
7. Open the program you want to create the rule for.
8. Click on the Grab button.
9. Click on the window of the program where you create the rule for.
10. Click on the Add button.
11. Click on the Close button.
12. Close the program you started to make the rule for.
13. Start the program and if all went well the program should be opened on the workspace you selected.

You can make as many rules as you like so go ahead and play around
