Energy Cities' opinion about the Energy Efficiency plan 2011

Energy Cities, the European Association of "local authorities inventing their energy future", published today its opinion about the Energy Efficiency plan 2011, released by the European Commission on 8 March 2011.

According to Energy cities, after the Fukushima nuclear accident and the new increase of oil energy prices, time for postponing urgent decisions is definitively over. It’s really time to go towards a decentralised, democratic, responsible energy system that citizens can understand.

Such a system calls for greater involvement of local authorities in energy policy making and implementation so as to give a more significant place to decentralised policies based on energy efficiency, energy savings and the use of local renewable energy and heat recovery.
