The NASIG Program Planning Committee invites proposals for the Great Ideas Showcase and Snapshot Sessions for the 41st Annual Conference, to be held June 2-4, 2026 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Snapshot Sessions will be held on Wednesday June 3, 4:30 – 5:15 PM. They consist of short presentations 5 minutes in length, with a focus on an idea, project, workflow, etc. If you’ve always wanted to speak at NASIG, but haven’t felt like you had enough to say for a full session, this is a great opportunity.

The Great Ideas Showcase provides an opportunity to share innovative ideas, new workflows, and new applications of technology in an interactive and informal setting. Great Ideas are presented as posters, which will be on display throughout the conference. Presenters must be available on Wednesday June 3, 3:15-4:30 PM to discuss their posters with attendees.

Great Ideas and Snapshot proposals may present a report of a research study, an analysis of a practical problem-solving effort, or a description of an innovative program that may be of interest to the NASIG community. Proposals should name any particular products or services that are integral to the content of their presentation. However, as a matter of NASIG policy, showcases and snapshots should not be used as a venue to promote or attack any product, service, or institution.

Submit your Great Ideas Showcase or Snapshot Session proposal here.

Proposals must be received by 5PM, Monday March 30th, 2026..

For more than two decades, COUNTER has been the gold standard for measuring how people engage with scholarly content. But the world looks very different than it did when COUNTER first launched — and the metrics we rely on need to keep pace.

That’s exactly what NASIG’s upcoming webinar on March 24th, Usage Metrics for AI, OA and More, is all about.

What’s Changing — and Why It Matters

Open access has reshaped how content is distributed and consumed. Syndicated content is appearing across more platforms than ever. And perhaps most significantly, AI tools are increasingly answering questions and surfacing information in ways that never generate a traditional click at all.

So how do publishers, librarians, and platform providers measure what’s actually being used? How do you capture value when the user never visits your site? And how do you build reliable, comparable reporting in an environment that’s evolving this quickly?

These are the questions the COUNTER community is actively grappling with — and in this webinar, you’ll get a front-row seat to the conversation.

What You’ll Learn

In this one-hour session, attendees will explore:

How the COUNTER Code of Practice provides a strong foundation for building new reporting approaches

How publishers are already delivering OA-optimized reporting in practice

Best practices for capturing usage of syndicated content

How the COUNTER community is developing practical guidelines for reporting AI usage, and why zero-click doesn’t have to mean zero-usage

About the Speaker

Leading the webinar is Tasha Mellins-Cohen, Executive Director of COUNTER Metrics and Founder of Mellins-Cohen Consulting. Tasha has been embedded in the knowledge community since 2001, holding roles across operations, technology, editorial, and executive functions at learned societies and commercial publishers alike. She has contributed to key industry bodies including UKSG, ALPSP, and STM, and stepped into the role of leading COUNTER in 2022. Few people are better positioned to speak to both where usage metrics have been and where they’re headed.

Register Now

The live webinar takes place on March 24, 2026, from 1:00–2:00 PM ET on Zoom. Can’t make it live? No problem! The session will be recorded and made available to all registrants after the event. The recording will remain available for purchase through June 24th, after which it will be freely accessible to all.

Registration rates:

Whether you work in publishing, library services, platform development, or research, this is a conversation you don’t want to miss. The way we measure usage is changing and this webinar is your chance to understand what comes next.

The 2025 Autumn Conference was fully online and held in Zoom. The conference took place over three days and included one vision (keynote) session, 18 live sessions (three short, six medium, seven long, and two Q&As with the pre-recorded session speakers), and 16 pre-recorded sessions (five short, eight medium, and three long). Out of 157 attendees, 23 (14.7%) submitted conference survey responses. Survey responders could enter their name to win a $50 gift card. This year’s winner was Zhanelle Green.

Respondent Demographics

NASIG members had the higher response rate (65.2% or 15 respondents). Continuing the trend from previous years, the majority of respondents were academic library employees (91.3% or 21respondents). Years of work experience was fairly spread out, and those with more than 20 years of experience represented the highest percentage of respondents at 34.8% (or 8 respondents).

Respondents were asked to “describe your work,” using keyword checkboxes (including “other”). They could check more than one answer. The top five responses were:

Electronic Resources (95.7%)

Acquisitions (73.9%)

Collection Development (56.5%)

Licensing Rights/Management (47.8%)

Serials (47.8%)

Respondents were also asked to select the number of NASIG conferences they have previously attended, with the majority having attended five or fewer conferences (65.2% or 15 respondents).

Note on Rating System

Unless otherwise stated, numerical ratings provided in this report are based on a Likert scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest.

The rating for the balance and variety of sessions offered was 4.57, higher than last year.

The ease of using Sched was rated at 4.65, up from last year.

When asked if they could change one aspect of the conference, 13 respondents offered suggestions. Topics receiving more than one mention were session content (3 responses) and price (2 respondents); write-in suggestions included break-out rooms and other alternative ways of interacting with other attendees.

21 respondents answered the question about institutional support, with the majority (66.7% or 14 respondents) indicating their institution supported both on-site and virtual attendance. Two of the four “other” answers mentioned funding for presenters.

Vision Sessions

The 2025 autumn conference had one vision session following the opening remarks which started the day on Tuesday. This and the wrap-up at the close of conference were the only two sessions outside of regular programming.

20 respondents provided feedback on the first vision session, by Shamella Cromartie, with an overall rating of 4.45.

Live Sessions

The 2025 autumn conference had 18 live sessions, comprising short, medium, long, and Q&A with the presenters of the pre-recorded sessions . The three short sessions were seven minutes long each in a single timeslot; the six medium sessions were 15 minutes each, paired two to a session over three timeslots, and the long were 30 minutes, each with their own timeslot. Keeping in mind the different lengths of these sessions makes direct comparison challenging, the five live sessions with the highest overall ratings were:

Live Session

Number of Respondents

Session provided valuable information and skills

Learning as We Go: The Realities of Authentication Technology Training for Librarians presented by Zhaneille Green and Abby Wickes

15

4.47

From Backlog to Breakthrough: Transforming Serials Processing with Alma Tools presented by Susan Dahl

11

4.36

Balancing Innovation and Integrity: Evaluating AI Tools in Library Acquisitions presented by Megan Horn

12

4.33

Evidence-Based Collection Assessment at Stony Brook University Libraries: Identifying Goals, Selecting Tools, Building Workflows presented by Kimberly Kennedy and Sam Horstmann

12

4.33

Fullmetal Automation: Increasing LGBTQ+ Discoverability at Emory Libraries presented by Judy Romines and Niel White

11

4.27

Pre-Recorded Sessions

The hallmark of the autumn conference is the preponderance of pre-recorded sessions. The 2025 annual autumn conference offered 16 pre-recorded presentations that attendees could choose to view at any time and two live sessions for Q&A with presenters of the pre-recorded sessions. The Q&A held on Wednesday had an overall rating of 3.83 (12 respondents), and the Q& held on Thursday had an overall rating of 3.85 (13 respondents).

The five pre-recorded presentations with the highest overall ratings were:

Future Conferences

The survey requested that attendees rate their likelihood to attend the 2026 NASIG Annual Conference in Madison, WI on a Likert scale of one to five with one indicating not at all likely and five indicating very likely. 23 people responded to the question. Of those, 6 respondents indicated they were very likely to attend, 2 indicated they were likely to attend, and 3 indicated that they were somewhat likely to attend. 16 respondents gave reasons they were unlikely to attend or uncertain of attending, some stating more than one reason. The most prominent reasons were lack of funds, plans to attend a different conference, lack of institutional travel support, and avoidance of in-person conferences.

Respondents also rated their likelihood to attend a future NASIG Virtual Conference on a Likert scale of one to five with one indicating not at all likely and five indicating very likely. 23 people responded to the question. Of those, 16 respondents indicated they were very likely to attend, 5 indicated they were likely to attend, and 2 indicated that they were somewhat likely to attend. No respondents indicated that they were unlikely or very unlikely to attend.

The survey asked attendees to indicate what future topics attendees are most interested in based on a Likert scale of one to five with five being the highest. The top five rated topics were:

Future Topic

Overall Rating

Issues related to electronic serials

4.30

Acquisitions

4.22

Technology

4.13

Accessibility standards

4.04

Career/skill development

4.00

Three of the top five topics this year, Issues related to electronic serials, Acquisitions, and Technology, were also part of the top five topics in the 2024 survey.
