Christmas is a time for family and we thank you for coming to celebrate the birth of our Saviour with your church family. We have just honoured three saints, Ailsa Halstead, Kem Smart and Elspeth Lewis, who are now enjoying the wonderful grace this season represents; the “Reason for the Season”. God came down and dwelt among us so that we may dwell with Him forever. We rejoice in Jesus Christ our Saviour.

For many of us we, celebrate our family, thanking God for the blessing we are to each other. But for some of us, it can be a sad time, and we pray for you especially.

The Lord has blessed us at NBC this year, and we praise Him for all His mighty works. We are grateful and thank you for serving the Lord and His family so faithfully. You have been “rich in good deeds” both seen and unseen.

We pray that the Lord will bless you and your families richly this Christmas and in 2012 as we all serve Him together. We wish you safe and happy holidays!

“There is a great deal of unease in many cases bitterness by many wage earners from lower paid [workers] to[ward] high income earners about the tax loopholes within current legislation that allows some highly paid, and often self employed to mitigate their tax commitments through the use of poorly drafted tax regulations. We’ve seen a couple of high profile cases brought by the IRD recently and they are to be congratulated but this is only the tip of the iceberg of the number of people abusing the regulations. There is also the age-old concern about the black or underground economy. If you get into the treasury benches [..] are you going to:

Take action to review the offending regulations and upgrade them to simple English that anyone can understand.

Give enough teeth to the courts and IRD to ensure there is enough disincentive to make the practice very risky and very expensive if deemed to be guilty of tax avoidance [or] evasion?

Give the IRD the necessary resources to better check and follow up suspected cases especially in the corporate area.

Make tax regulations more simple and as such reduce the cost of compliance and less likely for the need to employ tax lawyers and accountants.

Michelle Tolentino was sponsored as a child by Tear Fund

Michelle Tolentino grew up in Manila. In a community known for prostitution and drugs, Michelle’s father was a drug addict. Michelle was told she was ugly and worthless. But at age six, Michelle was sponsored and her life changed.

As a result, Michelle was given the opportunity to develop and reach her potential. After completing primary and secondary school, Michelle was selected as a Leadership Development Student and gained a degree in Communication Arts. After graduating, Michelle worked for six years as the Marketing Director of TRUMPETS, Asia’s first gospel theatre group.

In August 2008 Michelle was awarded a full scholarship to complete a Masters on Spiritual Formation and Discipleship at Moody Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois (USA). She has been speaking around the world about her transformation.
