/>
Long-time Colts fans may have experienced some kind of deja-vu upon Andrew Luck’s debut. He put on a performance just as good, if not better, than Peyton Manning’s back in 1998. There’s not much else to say other than he looked like a veteran NFL quarterback. His accuracy on some throws was, frankly, phenomenal, and his mobility is something clearly under-appreciated.

If you are a Washington Redskins supporter you have to be happy with Robert Griffin III’s performance. His solid stats, 4/6 70 yards and one touchdown, were the product of an uncommon poise not usually found in rookie QBs. Pierre Garcon fans should also be happy, he looked like a true WR1.

I don’t know about you, but the Falcons’ 2011 dealing to grab Julio Jones seems to look better and better. 6 receptions, 109 yards and one touchdown from a single quarter. Monster numbers.

Tom Brady took a pretty big hit from behind in the Patriots game against the Saints. That Pats OL will be of great interest to me throughout the rest of the preseason. He did hit TE Rob Gronkowski twice during his limited time on the field so that connection still seems intact.

The Philadelphia Eagles had a huge scare when Michael Vick appeared to hurt his thumb early. X-rays seemed negative and he’ll be fine but it does remind us that to succeed the Eagles will need a reliable backup. Thankfully rookie Nick Foles and journeyman Trent Edwards looked good (even if the second string QB, Mike Kafka, did not.)

Ben Roethlisberger looked like vintage Ben Roethlisberger, making people miss, breaking tackles and finding the open receiver. For the most part the absence of Mike Wallace did not seem to hurt the offence too much, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Hard not to feel bad for the Chargers when their No.1 RB, Ryan Mathews, broke his clavicle on his very first carry. Ouch. This was after what has been a very positive preseason – he’ll be out of action for 4-6 weeks. While we’re on the topic of the Chargers, TE Antonio Gates looked pretty great with 2 catches for 29 yards and a touchdown. See? I bring good news with the bad.

One of the major draw cards for this week was the first Peyton Manning appearance. It’s fair to call it a pretty mixed début. But compared to other starting QBs who haven’t had a zillion neck surgeries, didn’t just sign with a new team and actually played during the 2011 season I’d say he did pretty damn well. The one interception was the product of a terrific defensive play rather than QB rust. All is well in Denver.

It’s hard to get a read on the Chicago Bears when neither Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, Julius Peppers and Matt Forte played. I need to see the Cutler-Marshall connection back in action.

The Jets look terrible. Straight up. Neither Sanchez nor Tebow looked like they could carry an offence and at times the game was painful to watch. Not helping was the gushing Tebow commentary talking about his apparently unique ability to “just win games”, all the while he’s throwing 4/8, 27 yards and one interception. Winning.

On the flip side the Cincinnati Bengals looked good. But they did get badly banged up. They actually lost four of their starters in the first 20 minuets of the game. That’s the worst case scenario for any team during the preseason. Their starting guard, Travelle Wharton, is apparently out for the season.

I didn’t like how the Browns treated Colt McCoy. It’s a tough sell to argue that he had his shot, especially when his replacement gets a shiny new RB to play with. But I guess Karma has her way yeah? That shiny new RB has had to have surgery to clear up his knee and Brandon Weeden, the replacement, had an absolutely terrible rookie debut. McCoy won’t win the starting job, it’s already gone, but he can make the Browns look like idiots — which he certainly has done during their first preseason game.

While eyes were initially Matt Flynn they really should’ve been on Russell Wilson who came on after and was described as ‘greasy fast’ by the Seattle commentators. Not sure what that means but he showed poise, was very mobile and had a great day.

Talking about QB competitions, technically Jake Locker had a better day than Matt Hasselbeck. In fact, I’m fairly confident that Locker will have that starting spot come the first week of the regular season. Noticed how woeful Chris Johnson was? I sure did.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ running situation was made only a little clearer by good performances from both Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis. Honestly I see it being similar to the way Charles and Thomas Jones shared carries back in 2010, Jamaal’s breakout year. Ideal for both the speedster and bruiser.

I have to admit I liked how Josh Freeman looked. He had a wretched 2011 season and I do think the calming, structured approach of Greg Schiano will make that offence work. There could be a two-headed RB monster brewing in LeGarrette Blount and rookie Doug Martin. Most thought Martin would simply take the job but I can see both having solid carries during the season.

As for Miami, it’s hard to fault Ryan Tannehill who looked supremely confident in the pocket. He made some good throws and clearly knew the system, and now I’m very interested in seeing him compete against a starting defensive unit.

Don’t worry about Cam’s poor outing either, he was terrible during the 2011 preseason as well and look how that turned out. Oh, by the way, Luke Kuechly will be the defensive rookie of the year. Kuechly was always where the action was, he made a big goal line stop and then forced an Arian Foster fumble.

The Giants have only made their RB situation more confusing after excellent performances from both D.J. Ware and rookie David Wilson. Three-headed rushing attack in 2012? Sure, why not? Must be nice to have that kind of depth. TE Martellus Bennett made some great plays, both blocking – which the coaches tell us is the reason they signed him – and catching the football.

Yes, the Jaguars actually looked ok against the Giants’ starting unit. Blaine Gabbert led Jacksonville down to the endzone on the very first drive. I’m eager to see Maurice Jones-Drew finally return and their rookie WR Justin Blackmon make an impact.

That’s more or less it. If I didn’t mention a team it’s basically because I didn’t think there was anything to report. Not yet, anyway. It’s probably a good thing (Dallas Cowboys).

Point of Interest: Chad Johnson is done, and rightly so. Teams can tolerate a joker or a troublemaker, not both.

Point of Interest 2: I’m having a lot of trying understanding why Ryan Mathews is still a top 10 fantasy pick. He’s injury prone and just broke his clavicle guys.

Point of Interest 3: I’m looking forward to seeing offenses get a bit more complicated in week 2. I’d like to see the Redskins Pistol formation in action.

Final Point of Interest: Miami Dolphins are due for a great year in 2012.

Why They Will Be Better

Miami has had a solid defence for the past few seasons and that will continue to be the cornerstone of their success this season. Where the Dolphins have been found lacking is on offence. New head coach Joe Philbin looks like the perfect man to solve this problem. Philbin is installing a more high powered west-coast offence, much like the one he ran with great success as the offensive coordinator for the Packers. With the personnel Miami has on offence, this system should work well. They have a dynamic pass-catching running back, a good group of young receivers, a veteran wideout that looks primed to return to his glory days, a solid o-line and a serviceable quarterback, whichever one it turns out to be. If Philbin can bring these parts together and get anywhere near the type of production he had in Green Bay from this group, the Dolphins will be an exciting team to watch that will put up good numbers and, hopefully, wins.

The schedule the Dolphins face in 2012 is also more favourable than the one they faced last season. Miami has a good chance of being at least 4-2 before their bye and despite some tough divisional clashes they have some very winnable games later in the season. (Note: I don’t want to upset anyone so I’m not going to name these games). Overall their season is far from overwhelming and if everything goes their way they could easily get close to the nine-win mark.

While most of you may disagree, I think being a participant in the ‘Hard Knocks’ program will help the Dolphins this year. The team knows they have the eyes of the country on them and will be out to impress. This should sharpen up their practices, have the team more focused and create a sense of unity that has been missing somewhat in recent seasons. Team unity will also be aided with the departure of Brandon Marshall this offseason. There is little doubt that Marshall was a locker room disruption and caused issues for the team over the past few seasons. This is evident in the fact the Dolphins were willing to cut Marshall before they were offered a trade by the Bears. How detrimental it will be to the Miami offence is still a query but with coach Philbin preaching that “balance” is more crucial to his system than a true No.1 receiver, you get the impression it will be minimal.

Their Secret Weapon

How Reggie Bush performs this year will go a long way in deciding the fate of the Miami Dolphins. Last season rookie Daniel Thomas was garnering the lion’s share of expectation in the Miami backfield and was touted as the primary back for the Dolphins. But it was Bush who ended up grabbing the headlines and the starting job, posting his first 1,000 yard season in the process.

Bush ended 2011 with four games of 100 yards or more, including a 203-yard demolition of Buffalo. He looked sharp, healthy and displayed the explosiveness that we only saw glimpses of in his tenure with the Saints. He will be looking to build on the form he gained last season and back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons is a definite possibility.

The passing game is where I expect Bush to make a massive impact this year. He can be devastating after the catch with his combination of elusiveness and speed and will be a matchup nightmare for any linebacker when he is catching balls out of the backfield. With coach Philbin looking to place a greater emphasis on the pass this year, Bush will get more than his fair share of catches.

Here’s a glimpse at what he can do:

Make Or Break Game

Week 8, Miami v New York Jets – Metlife Stadium NY

As I mentioned previously, the Dolphins will be aiming to be at least 4-2 when the bye rolls around in week 7. The following week they have a divisional match up against the Jets. This clash will be the most important of the season for the Dolphins as it will go along way in dictating how the remainder of their season will play out.

If Miami come away from New York with a victory under their belt, not only will it give them a win against a divisional rival but they can ride the momentum they gain from that victory into the toughest part of their schedule. Anything could happen from there. If they lose, the team may not recover and with their confidence blown, the remainder of the year could get plain ugly for the ‘Phins.

Overly Optimistic Expectation

16-0. God, even I laughed when I typed that. It’s going to take a couple of things for the Dolphins to have a successful season. First, coach Philbin’s new offensive system needs to come together quickly. Second, the defence needs to continue to improve and impose themselves on the opposition to give the offence every chance to succeed. Third and perhaps most importantly, they need to win the close games they lost last season. Miami lost five games last season by three points or less. If those results went the other way, Miami’s 6-10 disaster quickly becomes an 11-5 celebration.

All things considered, I can see the Dolphins having a 9-7 season. I doubt whether this will be enough to take them past the Patriots in the division, but it will be a good result for the team nonetheless.

What do you think? Is 9-7 a bit too over the top or spot on? Let me know how you think the mighty Dolphins are going to go this season in the comments below.

Australian NFL TV Guide: 2012 NFL Pre-Season Edition

TV Guide

2012 NFL Pre-Season

ESPN Australia

ESPN HD

ESPN2

ESPN2 HD

NFL 32

NFL Films

NFL Game Pass

NFL Yearbook

One HD

Ten Sport
<guid

Warning: these articles are deliberately homeristic and have an air of desperation and self-deception.

Today’s edition features editor James, who will attempt to defend his beloved boys from Southern Alaska, the Seattle Seahawks.

Why They Have Improved

Seattle’s shining light last season was its brutal and physical defence. No, it wasn’t the best in the league, but it was certainly a top-10 unit and after the recent draft and free agency period, the Seahawks have done nothing but improve on this side of the ball.

The Hawks’ ability to rush the passer was its main concern defensively last season, and they have clearly addressed this issue. Picking up Jason Jones from Tennessee to line up on the inside will be a tremendous boost, and re-signing Chris Clemons was a huge sigh of relief for the front office. Clemons may not be a household name but ranks eighth overall in the past two seasons for sacks (22.0), in front of Trent Cole and Jason Pierre-Paul.

Head coach Pete Carroll preached the need for more speed at the line at the end of 2011 and got what he was after with the drafting of DE Bruce Irvin, a decision many scoffed at. From all training camp reports, Irvin is showing great signs and has explosive speed off the snap. I’ve written previously as to what I thought of this move.

The secondary – jammed with Pro Bowlers Earl Thomas, Brandon Browner and Kam Chancellor – has kept in tact and should only get stronger as these players gel and grow as a unit. Essentially, I’m looking for this defence to rank top 5, maybe even top 3, come the end of 2012.

Offensively, Seattle drafted RB Robert Turbin out of Utah State in the fourth round who is the perfect backup to that stiff-arming, drink-driving freak of Marshawn Lynch. Lynch was the team’s offensive anchor last season and to snag another player in Turbin who brings a similar physicality and powerful running style, this can only be a good sign. Oh, and check out his biceps. Not bad, huh?

What Is Their Secret Weapon?

If you didn’t hear the name ‘Doug Baldwin’ last season, you’re certainly going to this year. Baldwin was an undrafted free agent in 2011 until Seattle picked him up, only to find an absolute gem at WR. The former Stanford Cardinal led the team in receiving yards and receptions last season finishing with just under 800 yards and four TDs.

What more, Baldwin led the NFC West in third-down receptions in his rookie season (go ahead and laugh, but that’s still somewhat impressive). He played primarily as a slot receiver but is likely to be used more on the outside this season – something he expressly wanted to do.

Even better, Baldwin plays with a chip on his shoulder, furious that he went undrafted. He plays with fire and passion, fuelled primarily that he wasn’t even drafted by his college coach, the one and only Jim Harbaugh (who later conceded he really should have drafted him). Baldwin has been stellar in training camp so far, so look for him to shine in 2012.

Another secret weapon is CB Richard Sherman, who has quickly become a fan favourite. Sherman – who went somewhat unnoticed by many among the frenzy of Thomas, Chancellor and Browner last season – is a beast. Drafted in the fifth round in 2011, he’s an essential cog to Seattle’s defence.

Consider these stats for a second: last season Sherman ranked fifth best in CBs with 80+ targets, being beaten 37 of 88 times at 42 per cent. New York Jets CB and media favourite Darrelle Revis was targeted 89 times to be beaten 36 times at 40.4 per cent. Revis is considered one of the best corners in the league. No-one knows who Sherman is. Case closed.

Sherman is also a gem in the locker room and is one of the team’s most colourful characters. See for yourselves here.

Baldwin and Sherman – two names you will hear a lot of this season, our secret weapons.

Make Or Break Game -

Week 1, Seattle @ Arizona.

While there may not be many high hopes from the national media regarding Seattle, internally expectations are huge. That’s why getting off to a flying start is a must, especially with the Cowboys, Packers and Patriots in the first six weeks.

Week 1, Seahawks vs Cardinals in Arizona, is massive. A loss there will be devastating and will hinder the chances of challenging the 49ers for the division. The Hawks will be looking to exploit Arizona’s mess of a QB situation with that stellar secondary, and should get the job done. Many may laugh at NFC West division games, but this one is huge.

Overly Optimistic Expectations -

There’s a heap of question marks surrounding Seattle’s offence going into 2012. Who will be the starting QB? Will the receivers stand up? Will Lynch be suspended, leaving rookie Turbin to carry the load? The Seahawks’ 2012 season could realistically go either way — they could bomb out and go 5-11, or they could play to their potential and go 10-6.

If you ask me, Seattle will go 9-7 and just miss the playoffs, or possibly snag a wildcard spot. Sure, our QB situation isn’t ideal, but the team is built around bruising RB play and a physically dominating defence that will get you the ball. The QB needs to make plays and keep us competitive, but doesn’t necessarily need to be the next Peyton Manning, Drew Brees or Tom Brady.

Win forever, baby.

** UPDATE: With the recent signing of Terrell Owens at WR, I’m too proud to change my farcical prediction. This signing does, however, impact the QB situation as I now assume all three guys will be placed on IR for a similar injury.

Did I convince you? Warning: These articles are deliberately homeristic and have an air of desperation and self-deception.

First up, NFLDU’s Editor, Dominic, tries to explain why the Redskins won’t be completely and utterly awful in 2012.

Why They Have Improved

Let’s get the obvious out of the way and say, finally, that the Redskins have a quarterback in Robert Griffin III. A fan could argue that we haven’t had a franchise QB since Mark Rypien back in ’92 however I could make a case that the last true Redskins franchise QB was Joe Theismann. RG3 has a big arm, is mobile and most importantly has an amazing work ethic and competitive attitude.

He has some weapons too. Pierre Garcon, a free agency pickup, has been terrific in camp and appears to be perfect for the WR1 position. Leonard Hankerson, the Redskins third round pick in 2011, has also developed much more reliable hands.

Trent Williams, the Redskins left tackle and first round pick in 2010 has been looking great in camp, showing great control and athleticism. His development into an elite LT is paramount on what is otherwise an unimpressive OL.

The defensive line has some great depth with the return of a healthy Jarvis Jenkins and the development of Chris Baker, who has been making waves in training camp. The pass rush is also promising to look even better with Brian Orakpo developing his moveset and rushing from both the left and right sides.

Finally, the secondary got a complete overhaul. DeAngelo Hall is now the nickel corner and there is an open competition for almost every other position in the secondary. The DBs are being developed by ex-Bucs coach Raheem Morris who should return the Skins’ pass defence to prominence.

What Is Their Secret Weapon?

Obviously RG3 is no secret, but how they will use him is. The Redskins are smartly developing an offence around RG3′s talents, including the addition of the Pistol Formation.

The Pistol Formation – while looking similar to the shotgun – contains some key differences that help to meld both RG3′s athletic talents, his rookie inexperience and Shanahan’s offensive philosophy. In the Pistol Formation the QB is only four yards from the line of scrimmage (instead of the usual seven found in the Shotgun) with the RB another three yards behind him (instead of standing next to the QB). It is a combination of the Shotgun and regular Singleback offence.

A typical Pistol Formation.

This formation has a few advantages. It allows the QB to see more of the defence and gives him more time to react when blitzed. It also opens up a variety of plays including draws, options and counters. The formation in relation to Shanahan’s offensive philosophy works because the RB receives the handoff earlier and can attack the LOS quicker than if from the traditional Shotgun position. Being able to run the ball is a great way to keep your rookie QB standing.

Not only is RG3 already familiar with this formation (Baylor had been using it since 2009), it’s also ideal for mobile dual-threat QBs. Expect plenty of option plays showcasing RG3′s athletic ability.

Perhaps the biggest advantage the Pistol Formation will bring is simply the fact it is not a common formation in the NFL. After being developed only in 2004 in college, very few NFL teams have made use of the Pistol at the highest level. This may be exactly the kind of advantage the Redskins, and RG3, needs.

Make Or Break Game

The Redskins have a bizarre schedule and do not play any other NFC East teams until week 7. They will be treating every game leading up to that point as training and preparation for their first NFC East opponents – the New York Giants. This is as it should be. You won’t get to the playoffs without beating the NFC East teams, regardless of how you play against your other eight opponents.

Overly Optimistic Expectations

If the Redskins can win half of their NFC East games they’ll have a shot at an 8-8 record. They won’t ever truly be in a position to win a playoff spot but will enjoy the opportunity to ruin another rival’s chances. Little victories count for a lot for fans of losing teams.

Did I convince you? Do you have a team that won’t suck quite as much as they did in 2011? Let us know!

Aussie Fan Spotlight: Top End Steelers Fan

Features

Barry Foster

Mike Wallace

Pittsburgh Steelers

Troy Polamalu
<guid

And please don’t forget if you’d like to be in the spotlight to let us know! Details below.

Firstly, who are you, what do you do, where do you live and who do you support?

I am David Witzke, I work in the Port of Darwin, living in Darwin. I was born in Pittsburgh, PA, USA and moved to Australia five years ago. The Black and Gold of the Pittsburgh Steelers has been the family and my team ever since Art Rooney decided to throw a stadium at the convulence of the Three Rivers in Pittsburgh.

How did you come to support that team?

Living in Pittsburgh there is only one football team to support. Thankfully it turned out to be the winingest team in Super Bowl history.

Who is your favorite player currently on the roster?

Troy Polamalu. He is the hardest hitting player in the NFL. He adds paint to his helemet every game. The strong safety has been to seven Pro Bowls and has won two Super Bowls.

One of the Steelers’ major concerns going into the preseason is receiver Mike Wallace, do you think they’ll eventually come to an agreement?

The Rooney family has made it their “schtick” to win championships and pay their players next to nothing. We love to “do it on the cheap” in Pittsburgh. The truth is that Quarterback Ben Roethlisburger has had a lot of “favorite” targets in the past; Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Antwaan Randel El and now Mike Wallace.

Mike Wallace and his agent realized they were not going to get more money from Pittsburgh after no other team in the league wanted to offer him more than the $2.72M(US) than what the Steelers will pay him and that he really is not that special compared to the greats that have donned the Black and Gold.

Big Ben has two other great WRs in Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown to open up space down field for Mike and I suspect that Isaac Redman will rush for at least 2,000yds this season in lieu of the injured RB Rashard Mendenhall. Mike Wallace will realize that he will be able to achieve more this season with this help. Hopefully he is not that selfish and learn that the team is not built around his position. (editor’s note: At the time of this interview, Antonio Brown had not yet signed his new contract, effectively damning Wallace.)

Who is your all time favorite player?

Barry Foster. He only played for 5 years, 62 games and only rushed for 3,943yds and 26 TDs. But in 1992 he rushed for 1,690yds in a single season and it is still the Pitssburgh Steeler single season record for a running back. His contract paid out millions in contract options that the team did not think he could reach when Barry signed. Because of this, and after appearing in a Super Bowl, he decided to retire young and with his health.

On the topic of Barry Foster’s early retirement, do you think Troy Polamalu should consider doing the same soon? Especially given that he recently admitted that he was deliberately played while concussed.

Troy Polamalu is the hardest hitting player in the NFL, AFL, NRL and even the NHL (ex-Pittsburgh Penguin Wrecking-ball Mike Recchi and current NQ Cowboy Brent Tate would be close second places). Now he has to own up for playing football at the high speed and intensity level that he has maintained throughout his carreer.

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a very real syndrome and 2,400 NFL players are ready to sue the NFL over repeated concussions while the League pats the players on the back and says, “She’ll be right.” Troy Polamalu is worried of deep depression that is chronically effecting many players suspected to be suffering from CTE and is rumored to be the reason for Jumior Seau’s tragic end. When Troy took a $10,000 fine from the League for using a mobile phone from the sidelines during a game just to tell his wife not to worry after he left with a concussion he started to make it known that the game was killing him and he did not know how much longer to hang on. <a

Not because of the money; Troy has made more than Barry has ever made in a single season then what it took Barry over his whole career. Instead Troy should retire because he knows what consequences there are for repeat concussions. He has two rings, established himself as the greatest Pittsburgh Steeler Defensive Player and should consider retiring before he ends up like Muhammad Ali.

What was your best moment as a fan?

In 2009 I was in the Seaview Pub on the Strand in Townsville watching the Super Bowl between the <a

NFL has the most cases of head trama then any other proffesional sport in the world and this is because of the feeling of invincability you get wearing protective gear. />
Pre-Season Games

One week after the Hall of Fame game, regular preseason games commence. Over the next 4 weekends, every team will play against another in the hopes of preparing their team in a game-type situation.

Because of the fear of injury in these games, starting players usually do not get a lot of game time. The most they will play is in the 3rd pre-season game, and even in that game, the longest they will be in there for is one half (often less).

Preseason games can sometimes have a huge impact on a team. Sometimes, players who hadn’t previously stood out can break out during the pre season, and earn themselves a starting spot on the roster. Sometimes, injuries can send a team downhill before serious competition even begins. Anything can happen.

Preseason games count for nothing towards the regular season standings, and are treated purely as preparation (but they sure are good for us fans to get a fix after a long absence of football!).

You can find a schedule for all the preseason games
Final Thoughts

The preseason may not count for anything, but it is good to see our teams get out on the field for the first time in months. A lot can happen in the space of 4-5 games, so it is a very interesting time for every football fan.

While it is hard to pick games that could be particularly interesting, there are a few teams you may want to keep an eye on:

Week 1. The <a

Of greatest concern has been the frightening link between concussions and premature death/serious brain injury.

To be clear: a concussion is a head injury with a temporary loss of brain function, caused by a sudden hit to the head which shakes the brain inside the skull. The NFL’s recent concern stems from lawsuits filed by former players suggesting the NFL concealed information linking football related head injuries to permanent neurological problems. These lawsuits have recently been consolidated but could cause substantial issues for the NFL.

It wasn’t until 2007 that the NFL introduced significant guidelines to prevent players returning to the field of play once they have been diagnosed with concussion. Since then the NFL has been cracking down on helmet-to-helmet hits like Clevelands QB McCoy & Pittsburgh LB Harrison from 2011.

Bounty-Gate has exposed a side of the NFL that no one is surprised exists but the NFL can’t publicly be seen supporting. The Saints have been hit with some of the most ferocious penalties levied against a single team in NFL history. While unlikely to have any legal ramifications (assault or battery charges) the timing favors the lawsuit filed by the ex-players. Coaches have a duty not to encourage or incite intentional injury to an athlete or recklessly increase the risks of the sport.

Their actions raise the question: Are these the right actions for the NFL to be taking?

The NFL is working hard on cleaning up its image, but more importantly it’s protecting our favourite players from potential harm. Their actions raise the question: Are these the right actions for the NFL to be taking ?

It will cause the Saints some grief over the next few seasons; losing their head coach, assistant coach, and 2nd round draft picks for years to come. But one year of pain for one NFL franchise is worth the safety and long term security it will bring the game. The NFL looks set to challenge any appeals against suspension’s ensuring players are punished for any reckless aggressive on field behaviour.

While these initial penalties are harsh the NFL has done the right thing by ensuring the safety of players is paramount. This will bring young families back to the games and prolong the careers of so many of our favourite players.

Let us know, do you think the NFL has done the right thing? Were the penalties served too severe ? Have your say – let us know below!
<hr
