VV Brown is a singer, a songwriter, a performer, multi-instrumentalist and a producer, and her debut single, “Crying Blood” will be released by Island Records on November 3rd. The single, taken from VV ‘s debut “Travelling Like The Light” which will be released next year, was written on a one-string guitar and is a perfect introduction to the 24-year old’s sound which she variously describes as indie doo-wop/musical mashed potatoes. In VV ‘s world, love sounds like the perfect melody. Both are difficult to define she says, but both pour out of the songs on her debut album. This is high definition, high concept pop with scuffed edges and laddered tights. “It’s about letting out all these ideas I’ve had locked up in my mind,” Brown states. “It’s honest - it’s not about being festooned with £10m diamonds or having perfect hair.”

Filthy Dukes emerge wired and blinking from the shadows of nocturnal London to bring you 'Tupac Robot Club Rock’, the first release from their debut album ‘Nonsense in The Dark’ (forthcoming February 2009). Sounding like nothing else around, “Tupac…” features the lyrical spitfire of subversive Philadelphian funsters Plastic Little and has been a big live track for the Filthy Dukes at the festivals all summer.
Released on 3rd November, Filthy Dukes original is joined by their own more dancefloor minded Kill Em All version, and a set of remixes from Oliver $, L-Vis 1990 and Plastic Little that complete the package in fine style.

Filthy Dukes started life as DJ duo Tim Lawton and Olly Dixon who, in tandem with running their Kill Em All club at the Barfly and fabric (where Bloc Party, Justice and Shy Child played some of their earliest gigs), they spun their “electroacidhousenuravetwisteddiscopunkfunk” DJ sets for Mylo, Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem and played stages at Glastonbury and Bestival.

Their remix of The Maccabees’ ‘X-Ray’ became an indie disco staple in its own right and at Fiction we wondered “Is there more where this came from?!”. We ushered the Dukes back into the studio, their long-term producer partner Mark Ralph joining them, and locked the doors. Olly, Tim and Mark then set about writing massive tunes of their own. Their songs encapsulate their wide-ranging love of music, bearing the faint echo of their collective influences (The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Kraftwerk) and nods to many of the artists to have passed through their club night.

At the end of 2007 Filthy Dukes pressed up 500, now highly coveted, vinyl copies of the infectious ‘This Rhythm’ featuring Samuel Dust of Late of The Pier then spent the first half of 2008 finishing off their debut album on the mixing desk of producer and Krautrock legend Conny Plank (the very desk that Kraftwerk used to make those albums back in the day).

'Nonsense In The Dark’, due out February 2009, showcases a broader sonic palette and features guest vocals from Orlando Weeks (The Maccabees), frYars, Brandon Curtis (Secret Machines), Foreign Islands, Samuel Dust and more, and is set to make a whole heap of noise in the coming months.

Steve McQueen is the lead single from forthcoming second album This Is A Fix, out 25th August. Following a reshuffle in the band’s ranks since their double gold-certified debut album, The Automatic return with a brilliant new single ‘Steve McQueen’.

Steve McQueen is the perfect embodiment of the The Automatic sound. The lead single from forthcoming second album ‘This Is A Fix’ (out 25th August), it’s a white-hot epic, featuring a brilliantly addictive chorus and crunching guitars, while lyrically it’s a romantic reference to growing up in Cowbridge and dreaming of the Great Escape.

It’s also the first track to feature The Automatic’s new line up. While founding keyboard player Alex Pennie has left to pursue other projects, in – though not as a direct replacement – is former Yourcodenameis:milo frontman Paul Mullen, adding another flank to James Frost’s guitar assault, and providing melodic counterpoint to Rob Hawkins’ vocals. All built upon Iwan Griffiths’ pummeling drums, it makes up for a bigger, fatter sound, just as dynamic, just as melodic, but simply ’more’

Produced by Butch Walker (Hot Hot Heat, Pink, Fall Out Boy), ‘Steve McQueen’ will feature three brand new tracks across CD and two 7”s while the digital download will also feature live and acoustic versions of the single. It is also accompanied by a Paul Minor (Muse, Editors) directed video, shot recently in the Mojave Desert.

Frankmusik presents a free mixtape and EP to download

5/8/08 Frankmusik AKA 22-year-old Vincent Frank might be in the studio working on his debut album with Stuart Price AKA Jacques Lu Cont but the album format was never going to be elastic enough to fit in all his musical hyper-activity. Let him present The Heaths of Thornton, named after the insalubrious part of Croydon Vince calls home, the website is Vince's personal blog, where he'll debut lots of unheard material, demos, remixes, video footage, artwork, DJ mixes; 'everything that I have in my head' as he puts it.
Once you've signed up to be a member of the club, you will be able to download for free a series of EPs. The site counts down the days, hours and second to the next one. He'll be dipping into the hard-drive of the Apple G5 in his bedroom to post up his latest productions, studio outtakes, demos, or maybe one of his fidgit house reworkings of a classic Timbaland jam. Right now you can download his version of Omarion's 'Ice Box'. With a million ideas pin-balling around his musical mind expect more surprises with every EP.

Vince has remixed the likes of Telepathé and CSS lately. Sometimes he'll remix one of his myspace friend's tracks (in fact this is how the Telepathé remix originally came about). With Vince also lending his production and writing skills to a whole wave of new left-field pop stars like Little Boots, Tinchy Stryder and Sisley, there are sure to be a few collabos on the Heath too.

The Heath Of Thornton is also were Frankmusik's Secret Liaisons are announced. The Liaisons are get togethers all over London hosted by Frankmusik on the piano, where he is joined by friends from the Heaths Of Thornton (you can request a performance on the site). The secret Liaisons take place at random settings across the capital. The next one will be at Soho's underground burlesque bar, The Black Gardenia on August 6th. The secret Liaisons are only announced and promoted through The Heaths Of Thornton.

Frankmusik has also created a 45 minute soundtrack for the website (which of course is hidden for you to find) Other content could be Vince posting up fan art, portraits he gets with charming regularity, graphic artwork he's done for people to download or maybe a blog he's filmed on his phone about how to get a Daft Punk sound with 'Bit Crusher' software. The band have also announced an extensive UK tour that will take place throughout October, November and December 2008! Support will come from Canadian metallers Cancer Bats, Irish upstarts In Case Of Fire and Welsh combo Attack Attack.

The tour will be in support of their soon-to-be-released fourth album, the first on their own label Join Us Records. Entitled 'Memory And Humanity' it is due out on October 13th - exactly five years to the day that their debut 'Casually Dressed and Deep In Conversation' record hit the shelves!

"In my opinion this is the most exciting and eclectic touring lineup we've ever put together,” explains Ryan Richards (Drums). “Every band brings something extra to the evening and will definitely bring the best out of us and keep us on our toes. New York's rock-meets-electronica duo Ratatat return with their brand new album "LP3". This is their third studio album, the follow-up to 2006's "Classics" and 2004's self-titled debut. ALBUM 'EINE KLEINE NACHT MUSIK' RELEASED 14TH JULY

Coming on like a lush, hypnotic hybrid of DAF, Kraftwerk and Mouse on Mars, with just a dash of contemporary wit and invention, Eine Kleine Nacht Musik is a sharp swerve away from the propulsive electro house Henry Smithson conceives in his day job as Riton, and all the more thrilling for it. A concept record in the very best sense of the word, his eponymous album, due for release on 14 July, pays affectionate tribute to the hugely seminal genre that is Krautrock. With its dreamy, free-floating atmospherics, gently pounding Motorik rhythms and sublime, minimal arrangements, it is that rare release that somehow manages to sound like a crackling transmission from the past and a broadcast from a sleekly glittering future.

Prior to its release however, is a 2-track single featuring songs not included on the album, to be only be available on a magnificent Fergadelic designed 12" vinyl or less lovingly packed digital download. La Serenissima is a coolly ingenious rework of the classical Reverberi Gian Piero Giordano Laura piece, updated for our modern times and given a deliciously Teutonic twist, while Phantasie is a headlong rush into a whirlwind of gleaming, driving beats, shiny keyboard lines and strings swirling out of control. Conclusive proof, if indeed any was needed, that we have only just begun to scrape the tip of Smithson's genius.

The 'Eine Kleine Nacht Musik' long player is realised through Modular recordings on 14th July and will be accompanied by a 10 minute, 3 track film in keeping with the spirit of record's traveling, epic quest-like vibez. Directed by "The Phantom" and starring Henry himself, the film will follow our humble hero on a cross-dimensional journey, soundtracked by the first 3 tracks on the record.

Repeatedly cited as one of the exciting up-and-coming bands, White Denim's punk-infused, psychedelic blues-rock madness has caused quite a stir amongst critics and bloggers alike. Hailing from Austin, Texas, they were the buzziest of the buzz bands at SXSW and with a veritable rampage of a UK tour in progress, it seems nothing can stand in the way of these three fine loons.
White Denim's first proper full length record "Workout Holiday" was released this week on the Full Time Hobby label. Self produced in a studio built inside a silver 1940s Spartan trailer, with only ‘cigarettes, barbecue ketchup and tequila’ as fuel, "Workout Holiday" is a record that is mad and magnificent in equal measure.
