I’m challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the loveable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that.

In a word, what I’m saying is, Grow up.

You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.

S.W.A.T. Students With A Testimony {grades 6-8 & 9-12} meet 6pm-8:30pm at the church. Lead by Greg & Jenna Borho, with the help of Blake Rice, Jeremy Roth, and Becky Molly.

Children's Church on Sunday mornings is available for those 0 to grade 5. They are dismissed after the Worship service. Lead by Vince & Amanda Pruim

One Sunday a month the kids in the older grades are in the service.

Sunday Jan 12 ~ stay after the service for a family-style luncheon.

Sunday Jan 19 ~ Guest Preacher Greg Gill will be with us for the 10:30am & 6pm services. Greg always comes with a timely word, he's been a blessing to our community for many years. Greg also flows in the gift of prophesy. A free-will offering will be taken up in both services.

Sunday Jan 26 ~ Once a month we meet at 6pm for a Corporate Worship Time.

There are small groups for women only, men only and for married couples. This style home group is specifically for the purpose of growing as a Christian, and dealing with the struggles and shortfalls in our lives.

Get on Track with God! | Accountable Home Bible Studies

Both Todd and Pastor Dave gave an invitation at church yesterday for anyone to join the Accountability Groups to help us get on track in our time with God. We are so passionate about this; we don't believe you can live a Christ-honouring life without the Word of God anymore than you can live your physical life without food.

We're not however, insinuating that if you are not part of a group, you are not reading on your own already.

What is an Accountability Group?

It's more than just a Home Bible Study!

The Bible tells us to:

Love each other. (John 15:17)
Serve one another in love. (Galatians 5:13)
Be kind and compassionate to one another. (Ephesians 4:32)
Carry each other’s burdens. (Galatians 6:2)
Confess your faults to each other and pray for each other. (James 5:16)
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves. (Romans 12:10)
Accept one another. (Romans 15:7)
Encourage one another and build each other up. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
Spur one another on toward love and good deeds. (Hebrews 10:24)

Each individual in the group follows a reading schedule. They read a Chapter each day, along with the corresponding daily devotion, using the Max Lucado Devotional NCV Bible. They meet once a week to discuss the reading (7 days worth) and how it impacted them. *Participants must purchase all required reading material.

In 2014 we need to take a better approach to our relationships!

In the book of Philippians, Paul wrote to the Church in Philippi, like so many churches and Christians today, they had some pretty big disagreements and suffered from self-centerdness. While in Prison, Paul encouraged them to take a better approach to their relationships. They weren't rebellious like those in Corinth but they did have their issues with unity.

If you think about it, every conflict among Christians boils down to one thing: selfishness.

Disagreements come about because we're thinking about ourselves, our feelings and our rights. Often our solution to solving such conflict is to avoid the people we're having conflict with. We refrain from having to deal with them by switching services, change churches, move out of the neighbourhood, unfriend them from Facebook… Try to rub them out of our lives completely.

Selfishness has a few filthy cousins: envy, jealousy, contentiousness, conceit, pride, and arrogance. None of them have any place in a Christian's personality. These are character traits of those who still serve the master of this world.

Paul writes we are to "do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others." (vs. 3-4)

Paul goes on further in the chapter to say, we're to live "without complaining or arguing {among yourselves} so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault {unrebukable} in a crooked and depraved generation {spiritually perverted and perverse}, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the Word of Life" (vs. 14-16a).

It is not necessary for us to always have the same opinions in the church regarding church life, matters of faith or practices. Even Paul disagreed with other apostles from time to time, It's good to have differences of opinion, it stretches our understanding of God, His word, His mission, and His purpose for His church in this world.

However, we must be very watchful to not to let differences of opinion destroy a person's faith, or the mission and testimony of the church.

Be content, peaceable, and you will be seen as beacons of light, shining out clearly. It's not in our own strength we can do this. "For it is God who is all the while effectually at work in you {energizing and creating in you the power and desire}, both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight" (vs. 13).

The world looks at you and sees Jesus. It's your responsibility, as you share the gospel with others, through your words and actions, which includes behind closed doors, in between Church services, when the Pastor's not around… that you are setting a good example, representing Him well.

As a representative of Christ, we need to know what Christ was like. He never put himself first. He lived and died to meet the needs of others. He didn't cling to His rights or privileges. In fact, he set his rights aside, in humility, to serve us.

As Christians, we are called to be Christ-like. Like Him!

Part of our journey towards spiritual maturity is to become more like Him. To love God and other people. We need to encourage, comfort, share, become tender and compassionate, as Christ is, and not only when it's beneficial to us. We need to live in humility, serving others, at every chance we get, including when no one is looking.

If we're not, if we're arguing among ourselves, gossiping and grumbling, holding grudges, entertaining whispers, pushing our way to the front to be noticed, then we're not living as Christ and His teachings and His life & death was for not.

These verses are great to meditate on as you enter 2014! Start this year off on the right foot…

If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if His love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor:

Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends.

Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage.

Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.

Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is God’s energy, an energy deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will give him the most pleasure.

Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night so I’ll have good cause to be proud of you on the day that Christ returns. You’ll be living proof that I didn’t go to all this work for nothing.

CHRISTMAS LOVE ~ A paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 13

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls, but do not show love to my family, I'm just another decorator.

If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love to my family, I'm just another cook.

If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all that I have to charity, but do not show love to my family, it profits me nothing.

If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir's cantata but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.

Love stops the cooking to hug the child.
Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the spouse.
Love is kind, though harried and tired.
Love doesn't envy another's home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens.
Love doesn't yell at the kids to get out of the way.
Love doesn't give only to those who are able to give in return but rejoices in giving to those who can't. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust, but giving the gift of LOVE will endure.

The Farmer & The True Vine | John 15:1-17

The Vine and the Branches - John 15:1-17 from The Message

1-3 “I am the Real Vine and my Father is the Farmer. He cuts off every branch of me that doesn’t bear grapes. And every branch that is grape-bearing he prunes back so it will bear even more. You are already pruned back by the message I have spoken.

4 “Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in you. In the same way that a branch can’t bear grapes by itself but only by being joined to the vine, you can’t bear fruit unless you are joined with me.

5-8 “I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can’t produce a thing. Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire. But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon. This is how my Father shows who he is—when you produce grapes, when you mature as my disciples.

The whole reason we abide in Christ is so that we may share in this relationship He has with the Father (The Father is the farmer/vinedresser; Jesus is the vine and we are the branches). We abide in Christ to bear fruit, and in bearing fruit we bring glory to God.

We find our entire purpose as we abide in Christ.

5 Devotional Questions:

What do you think Jesus meant by "fruit that will remain" or fruit that will last? (Jn 15:16)
Why do you think it brings glory to God when we bear fruit? (Jn 15:8)
God is the farmer/vinedresser (Jn 15:1-2, 6). Can you give an example of God’s pruning process in your life?
How do you know when you are truly bearing fruit that will last and not just “thinking” you are bearing fruit?
What safeguards do you have set up to keep you abiding in the vine?

A Look Back in Time | 2012 at New Song Church

I went through my photo albums to make a quick look back at 2012 for us here at New Song Church. Here's what I came up with, I hope you enjoy. ~ Shannon

In 2012:

we started renovations on our new sanctuary space,
a fantastic Courageous Valentine's Dinner,
the kids got all dressed up for Easter Sunday,
we had great times with our mentors; Loys de Fleuriot, Kevin Kennelly, Chris Wienand & Tim Shuttlesworth,
a few BBQ's at the church and downtown as an outreach,
we didn't flinch during the Father's Day Flood & we had to set up in another room,
summer began with a great co-Baptism / BBQ Service with New Life Church,
a team returned to Romania for most of the summer,
we watched as storms rolled around us during our Carnival & Concert day,
took the youth to The Pinery to camp for the long weekend,
took the church to Hidden Acres to camp for another weekend,
then a bunch of guys headed into the wilderness for a week of canoeing,
the fall kicked off with a return to Granger, IN for the RE-innovate Conference,
a month later a few of the ladies headed to the Muskokas to experience a ladies retreat at Ontario Pioneer Camp,
the year wrapped up with the GLO Girls Club starting up,
and our annual Christmas church banquet (which I don't have pics for).

Hello 2013! Time to get off and running... no turning back!

In Philippians 3:7-14 Paul pictured the Christian life as a race; he faced many obstacles in his life but he never quit, he never gave in or gave up. We each need this same kind of spirit if we hope to finish 2013 well.

Courage - Confidence - Commitment - Constancy - Carrying Onward

The key to success here is an all-consuming desire to reach the goal. Find value in the prize, don't give up and definitely don't settle for the immediate gratification this world has to offer.

Let’s GO! God is beaconing us onward, get off and running, and no turning back!

The Little Church That Could!

From the sale of 485 Charles Street in the summer of 2010 to the purchase of 24 McIntyre Place at the end of Februay 2011, it has all been a God-led miracle. Once again, as Dave - our Pastor - shared Sunday in church, New Song became known as "the little church that could!"

24 McIntyre Place has a total of 17,000 sq ft and is located in the Huron Business Park and is zoned business {B2 with provision for institutional}.

The church occupies almost 9,000 sq ft with the remaining 8,000 sq ft divided into 4 units. For the first time since owning the building, as of July 1st, all units are fully leased. Our mortgage is now covered in full!

This frees up money for more missions & community outreach events & other things we want to do at and through New Song Church!

Raised almost $300,000 just to purchase the building
Spent more than $100,000 on drawings and infrastructure renovations which include metal work {new beam}, the new HVAC system, demolition, plumbing, and concrete
Spent $3,000 on sound equipment

We "temporarily" set up church in the hallway adjacent to where we would eventually have church. One and half years later, we are still in the hall but the end is near!!!

"Hillbilly Sunday" with a hodgepodge of mismatched seating was OK at first but thankfully we were able to raise $6,000 for the brand new chairs we're now sitting on!

True to God's ability to provide for New Song Church in the past, as a part of our heritage of Faith, God has provided many things we need, in His timing. If you're not familiar with what God has done before... read our Testimony from our last building!

God has sent many people across our path to help us get this place finished! From figuring out the layout of the sanctuary, finding contractors, electricians and to get a great deal here and there, God has been faithful and creative. The whole process has been time consuming, labour intensive and not cheap!

Thanks for your patience during this lengthy process because without having a big bucket of money to draw from, we have had to do each project as the funds were made available.

Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don't try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. James 1:2-4

This has been a great lesson in endurance and steadfastness and patience for sure!

We Need Items for a Silent Auction Fundraising Event July 13

New Song Church will be holding a silent auction fundraising event on July 13, 2012 during a community BBQ, Carnival & Concert Under the Stars.

We are supporting our local Food Bank {with the assistance of the Twin City RE/MAX Going Home team} as well as supporting orphanages in Romania and more!

Two Sundays ago, Dave asked us to go home and pray about the answer to this question.

Why does God want New Song Church to be here?

Why do we exist?!

Even though our name is about to change, our mission from God remains the same.

Some of you went home and took this prayer, here's just one of the answers we heard:

God wants New Song church to be a welcoming, non-judgmental, untraditional, spirit led church full of love, joy, peace and grace.

It is to be an oasis for believers to get refreshed, fed, strengthened and equipped to go out into their world and shine the light of Christ.

This is done through worship, teaching and fellowship.

We are to encourage believers who are discouraged and drifting away from the Lord or not walking in the fullness God has for them.

New Song is to be a place for believers and non-believers to feel the unconditional love of Christ which will bring deep healing as they confess their sins and see how God is faithful and just to forgive their sins and purify them from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

To know and internalize Psalm 103:3-5, “Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.” {NIV}

Our church is to be a place for youth, people with exceptional needs and all ages to be loved, embraced, guided and accepted for who they are and empowered to be all God wants them to be.

As we sang this song this morning in church, the first service of 2012, I really felt in my heart of hearts that God wants this to be our anthem for 2012.

Good-bye 2011 & Hello 2012!!

Just a few words for you as 2011 comes to a close and 2012 begins...

I'm not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back.

So let's keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you'll see it yet! Now that we're on the right track, let's stay on it, Philippians 3:12-16 {MSG}.

We want to say a big thank you to those who faithfully invest into the life of New Song Church with your talent, your time and your treasure. Without which New Song Church would just be a building, an empty shell, and not what God has called us to be. Increasing the Kingdom of God requires everyone's involvement.

This year we were busy!

2011 began with a fabulous ladies winter getaway with an amazing speaker, Mandy Randolph from Southlands Church in Brea, California. Her husband Kirk ministered to the men on the home-front. They both ministered on transition. Perfect timing seeing as we had just moved into our new building. God used Mandy's prophetic gifting to speak into the lives of many of the ladies. It was a good time for refreshing as we had just suddenly lost our dear sweet friend, Sharon Henderson. The ladies at the retreat had a special tea time in her honour.

The last weekend of March break, our youth joined City Gates Church from Ajax and headed to Muskoka Woods with speakers Matthew and Rachel Shuttlesworth from One Community Church in Toronto. The kids had a blast getting to know one another, playing games, floor hockey, rock climbing and the amazing food. Many kids were filled with the Holy Spirit.

Next thing you know, we were raising money for summer mission's trips. Two groups were sent out in July, 3 jr. high kids went to Lima, Peru and a group of 5 went back to Ploiesti, Romania.

During the summer the kids were kept busy by Kayla and Blake. Two backyard Vacation Bible Schools, a VBS at the church, band camp, camping trips, movie nites, and even a carnival!!! The talent of the face painters was incredible and dunking Dave in the dunk tank was a big hit!! A few of the "boys" made it back out to the wilderness for an annual manly portage trip through Temagami and Barb & Terry celebrated 25 glorious years.

Sadly we lost one of the founding fathers of New Song Church on August 17, but we rejoice that John is with the Father, dancing with his beloved Dorothy, who predeceased him in 2005. We are still being told that this was the best funeral anyone has attended. It's a strange compliment but speaks to who this man was and those who really loved him. As we personally tried to cope with Dad's passing and all that went on and is still going on, we thank you for sticking with us, stepping up and holding us up. A few weeks later, we mourned with Alden & Ruby, as his father {& Shannon's uncle} Dennis, passed away. Two amazing men of God.

In the fall, Alden, Ruby, Darlene, Michele, Dave and Paul braved the youth and sleeping on the floor to take 20+ kids to Toronto for Acquire the Fire where they learned that "Normal is Not Enough". As proof our teens are way beyond "normal", Quinton threw a party for his 13th birthday to collect Christmas presents for 50 homeless teens with ROOF.

Christmas was pretty low-key in general as we still don't have a space big enough to seat all of us and our friends. Our annual Christmas Eve service was wonderful. The kids performed their best play to date! Next year, they'll have a much bigger stage to shine on.

The building renovations are coming along... slowly... just before Christmas Eve our drawings were approved and the city issued our permits. Now the real fun begins! We need to raise another $50,000 to finish it off. We would like to have our Grand Opening & relaunch service sometime in the spring. Maybe around the time of our 19th anniversary perhaps?!

We love you all so very much! We are standing on God's promises for great and mighty things for 2012. He is our provider and our protector!

Ladies Winter Getaway March 2-4, 2012

New Song's annual Ladies Winter Getaway is just around the corner. The ladies once again head to the Muskoka's in the middle of winter, this time March 2 - 4, 2012. Muskoka Bible Centre has been so very good to us, we're glad we can return.

Here's a quick glimpse of the 2011 Ladies Winter Getaway in the Muskoka's, February 25-27.

We ended up with 29 other wonderful women for a time of refreshing, rejuvenation and FUN - for our spirit, soul and body... the TOTAL woman! We got very little sleep... VERY.VERY.LITTLE. Giggles and laughter could be heard into the wee hours of the morning.

Thank you again to our wonderful speaker, Mandy Randolph from Southlands Church in Brea, California for being an amazing speaker, encourager and friend!

Distinctly Tea is a local tea shop in Waterloo. As you open the door, deliciously fragrant teas fill the air. On Saturday afternoon we had high tea, with Lemon Mulberry Rooibos and homemade scones & jam. It was such a delightful afternoon, filled with friendship, incredible tea, and even a moment or two of relaxation as we received manicures and pedicures.

The Cake Box in downtown Kitchener packed up 3 dozen of the most scrumptious cupcakes I have ever had! It was the most wonderful midnight snack for all of us to eat... guilt-free!

IronKids Gummies Multi-Vitamins are my kids very favourite vitamins of all times. It was such an honour to receive a box from them the day I was heading to the retreat. I've already heard people talking about how awesome they taste. They are PTPA Seal approved and can be found on Facebook and Twitter.

Mabel's Labels has got to be one the coolest company ever. I totally am in deep appreciation for the items they sent out! They now have labels for LOOT BAGS - yup, you heard me right. I have always struggled with what to fill the kid's birthday party loot bags with. They have now solved my biggest dilemma. Thank you! You can find them on Twitter and Facebook too.

YummyMummyClub was started by famous Canadian VJ, Erica Ehm. They reached out and sent up a box of items, including great cloth bags and coupons. You can find them on Facebook and Twitter.

Esta Chocolates in Waterloo donated three boxes of fine Truffles. They are 3rd generation chocolatiers and make such incredible Truffles. They were very, very yummy!

Sanctuary Day Spa in Waterloo donated an incredible $200 spa treatment package! You can find them on Facebook and Twitter.

Various other items arrived: A large box arrived, filled to the brim with books and DVD's from my friend Tara at Tara's View of the World and Stephanie at Zimbali Boutique sent me the most amazing, hand-made broaches and hair clips.

We were WELL taken care of!!

We can't promise all these same types of goodies this year but what we do know is that we're being joined by a fabulous speaker, Catherine Kennelly from London Christian Fellowship in London, Ontario.

We are looking forward to having some incredible sisterhood fun March 2-4, 2012. The cost is $160 which covers 2 nights accommodation, & 5 gourmet meals. A deposit of $80 is needed upon word that you're going.

What is Love?

Love is unselfish, willing to sacrifice, and ready to serve. Real love is committed to someone else’s best interest. So how does divine love act?

1 Corinthians 13

Patient ~ love that waits with contentment. What does that look like? I wait without demanding change. I wait without anger. I wait without anxiety.

Kind ~ love that initiates to help meet a need (see a need – meet a need). This includes those who are not kind to us.

Not Jealous ~ love that trusts instead of controls. Choosing to trust builds a love relationship and keeps that relationship strong.

Not Envious ~ love that trusts God and it content with what He gives.

Does not brag ~ love speaks of others more than oneself.

Not arrogant ~ loves that stays humble and inflates others instead of itself.

Is not rude ~ love has good manners. Emily Post (1922, ‘Miss Manners’) said, “Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use.”

Does not seek its own ~ love that has a servant spirit. Love that surrenders its rights.

Love is not provoked ~ love that has a slow fuse. It doesn't fly off the handle.

Does not take into account a wrong suffered ~ love that forgives. This supernatural love empowers us to forgive, regardless of the circumstances.

Love does not rejoice in unrighteousness ~ love avoids all sin. Love always steers us away from sin, not toward it. but rejoices with the truth ~ love joyfully partners with the truth (honesty). “Love finds no joy in hanging out with sin but loves to party with the truth.”

Love bears all things ~ love that hangs tough. Tolerating imperfections. Accepting personal differences. Overlooking selfishness.

Believes all things ~ love that communicates confidence. Real love makes us willing to believe the best about someone in the absence of absolute proof to the contrary.

Love hopes all things ~ love that is optimistic and smiles at the future.

Endures all things ~ love that is willing to suffer. A willingness to persist through the pain.

Love never fails ~ love that works, even when put to the test.

Invest in what will last. Love is eternal – it never goes out of style.

We're In The New Place!!!

After a few delays that were beyond our control, we finally moved into 24 McIntyre Place on February 28! It took a few loads to move everything from the storage pods into the building, but we are in!!!

We had our very first service in there last Sunday!

Amid the mishmash of chairs... folding chairs, kids chairs, lawn chairs and office chairs... all set up nice and snug in what will be the vestibule area once our renovations are complete, it was a bit of a "Hillbilly" Sunday. Which I think, added to our charm. :) It was a great first service!

Dave preached on Faith and it was a powerful sermon at that. You could feel the anointing and presence of God in that narrow, rectangular room. Someone said he reminded them of a young Ted Shuttlesworth. A compliment that meant a lot to Dave.

Things are still in boxes and rooms are still getting moved around. We may have a few more "Hillbilly" Sundays, but that's OK with us. God didn't mind! He likes it when we come into His presence just the way we are. After all, it's all about the condition of the heart and not the look of the inside of the building.

See you Sunday! 9:30am for Prayer and 10am for Service. There's plenty of parking!!

Our new digs...

A week tomorrow, we move into this new building at 24 McIntyre Place in Kitchener!! These are a few "before" pictures of the place. We have pretty much a blank slate and we can't wait to get started on demo and renos.

Prayer Requests:

* We need a bit more to add to the existing renovation budget. We'll be doing most of the work ourselves to keep the costs down. The first purchase we need to make is chairs! We donated ours to the Spanish church that bought our building from us.

* We'd like the renos to be completed in 5 months.

* We are considering a name change, for God's direction and guidance on this. With this new name will be a full new launch for the summer time.

* Continual prayer for God's awesome provision and protection!

* We are wanting to start a few small businesses to work out from here, for example; a lunch counter/cafe, a daycare, a bookstore, etc. The dreaming has just begun and you know us... we're BIG dreamers!! We want this property to be open to the community as well.

* For continual increase in all areas of our lives.

* For anything else that God leads you to pray for!
