Fall sports continue…

At NSSP we are continually trying to improve the quality of the photos we provide to our customers. This fall we are using a few new techniques and we’re hoping you notice the difference and enjoy your photos. We are still processing and shooting league photos and we have had a few clients into the studio lately for some studio portrait work.

Scott made another set of really cool banners for the outgoing Senior Volleyball players at Wooster High School. Buddy photos continue to be popular and are a great way to remember you’re friends, teammates, and how young you all looked. Thanks and have a great day.

A busy Fall of photography

Were getting into the heart of making portraits for the Fall. A bit if everything is going on these days; Incline Middle School school portraits, Sierra Youth Football League, Fernley Football, A few soccer leagues, High School sports and to top it off a commercial shoot. We had some nice evening light in Fernley to complement our portraits last night. Lots going on, hopefully we’ll see you out there.

All-Star Portraits

Last night we went to photograph the Reno Continental and the Reno National Little League all-stars. It is always a crunch to get these teams photographed and the process the images so we can send them off to the tournament host to be included in their post season program. Josh took on the Reno National teams as I went over to the Reno Continental fields. We have the Reno American league on Monday and then Sparks Fastpitch and Spanish Springs Cal Ripken later next week. We are looking forward to wrapping up the all-star shoots as we then get a little break in July before the fall season begins.

During our down time from the sports leagues, we will be photographing some high school seniors and taking some much needed R&R. I was hoping to hit the rock and bikes hard this summer, but with a recent shoulder surgery, I’m pretty much out of commission for the summer months. I’m gradually getting back to some activities, but my main fix this summer will be just plain old camping.

We will see you next season if not sooner.

2010 Ballers

Every year we provide the Reno Ballers (Boys and Girls Club) with team composite photos for their annual extravaganza. They auction them off to raise money for their program and each year we’ve been able to provide them with some amazing (if I don’t say so myself) prints. This year we have once again put together an incredible composite for their team photos. Each year we try to come up with a different idea and give their team photos that dark edgy feeling. For 2010 we went downtown and shot an alleyway in front of the new Knitting Factory. After cutting out each kid individually from a studio shot, we composed them onto our alley scene. If you notice you will see Yoda in the window in the upper right corner of the alley, wasn’t planned just happened and we didn’t even notice it until we were finalizing the image. We thought that came out kind of cool with him in there. We did obviously add the basketball player on the building silhouetted against the moon, which was added as well. After pumping up the contrast and the vibrancy of the alley, we finally added some mystical smoke to add to the flair of the dark alley theme. All in all we think this years composite came out great, and we look forward to coming up with a new idea for next year.

As we have slowed down now for sports portraits, we have begun to get busy with some senior portraits. I will get some session shots posted soon with some video shows we have captured.

baseball & ugly sweaters

We had a group come into the studio wanting to take funny pictures in ugly sweaters. It was fun to have clients hamming it up, being cheesy and enjoying themselves.

I went down to Western Nevada Community College to shoot some action photos last Saturday. It ended up being a beautiful day and I enjoyed watching them whoop up on their opponent.

I also shot a few photos for the Wooster High School Baseball team last week. It was senior day and a lot of fans showed up to support the graduating seniors.

Baseball, Softball, and Soccer

On Saturday we had another busy day. Josh was out at Reno Continental shooting their team and individual portraits while myself, John, and Mike shot the Sparks Recreation Just For Kicks soccer camp (which is always like herding cats), then moved over to Jamaica Park and photographed the Reno Fastpitch Softball league. We were blessed with great weather and I think I even got a little sun burned. We unveiled a new ordering system for the Reno Fastpitch league and we have had great feedback so far. We decided to go without order forms or pre-payment and decided to post all images online and have the customers view their daughters photos and then purchase all online. We are excited about this new system and hope it goes well.

In addition to these shoots we also photographed a Reed HighSchool senior on Thursday. We are in the process of editing her images so we don’t have any to post yet. We do have a video slideshow of our photoshoot with Kevin from a couple of weeks ago that I have included here though. We are always excited about the senior photo sessions and look forward to each one.

Fernley Leagues

Saturday we photographed the High Desert Little League and the Desert Valley Girls Softball Association, both from Fernley. We had a great day and the weather was impeccable. As is normally true the shoot went off without a hitch, although we do occasionally have problems, this one was as perfect as it gets with weather and timing. It is always a treat to shoot out in Fernley, with such a tight knit community the parents and kids are always a pleasure to work with and get involved with the leagues. We have a busy week ahead of us, not only processing the leagues from Saturday, but we also have shoots lined up for this week. Tomorrow we photograph the Sparks Recreation Blastball then on Saturday we have the Sparks Recreation Just for Kicks Soccer camp, the Reno Continental Little League, and the Reno Fastpitch Softball League. We also have a senior coming in later this week to get her senior portraits in our studio.

It is such a nice time of year in Reno, although we can get some nasty winter weather still, for the most part though, the spring weather is a nice mix and a good transition into the hot summer (Which I could personally do without). The road biking and mountain biking has been excellent so far, and we are looking forward to some great hiking and backpacking this late spring and summer. Though I’m still not done with skiing, most of the resorts have started to shut down, but the benefit of having a Squaw Valley pass is that they will be open for another month still, so I’m hoping to get some great spring turns in with the family.

Kevin Auble – Senior Portrait

Last Thursday we had a great session in the studio with Kevin Auble. Kevin is an avid roller hockey player, therefore we played off of this and created some great images. Although Kevin is a very comical and fun individual, he wanted to show more of his serious side with his hockey demeanor. Although we did create some great goofy shots, we have chosen to show off his darker side with these posted images with one nice traditional image.

Spanish Springs HS Baseball

Today we had a great weather day for our scheduled shoot of the Spanish Springs High School baseball program. With spring break this week we have a fairly light week, but the Cougars decided to shoot their portraits this week even with the break. We are gearing up though for a big Saturday with the High Desert Little League and the Desert Valley Girls Softball League team and individual portraits. Both leagues are in Fernley and we will run each league side by side to get them all done before noon. It is looking like it is going to be a great sunny day and we are definitely looking forward to some nicer weather.

As we get close to winding down the spring portrait season, we are looking to switch gears to providing action photography for those that would like some amazing action shots of their kids, or of themselves for that matter.

Reno Baseball Weather

On Saturday we were blessed with some relatively calm weather, albeit cold at times. We did get a little breeze in the afternoon just as we were wrapping up the Sparks Fastpitch Softball League, but for the most part, with the weather we have been seeing lately, we cannot complain. We photographed the Reno National Little League and Sparks Fastpitch Softball League portraits on Saturday and everything went well. We photographed the Sparks Fastpitch at a new location this year and we believe that the photos turned out very nice and the parents should be very pleased with their photos this year. Photographing in the Reno/Sparks area can be challenging at times, we not only have to deal with the weather, but also the locations we have to use. Most leagues will dictate where we photograph, ie. their fields, and in these circumstances we try to utilize the best possible area for a pleasing image. With Reno being a high desert we aren’t blessed with many trees in most of our locations, which make things tricky to say the least.

We have this weekend off from shooting leagues but we do have the Wooster High School track team on Wednesday and we have a few senior portraits scheduled for a couple of graduating seniors this year and a couple looking to get their portraits done for next year ahead of time. Hopefully the weather turns a little bit for the better as we look to head outdoors for a couple of them. We are currently interviewing 2011 seniors for potential use as our senior models. We are looking for outgoing and fun seniors that would like to represent our business and earn some extra cash. Contact us at 852.0784 for more information.

Although the weather hasn’t been the best for the spring portrait season, we are looking forward to taking advantage of some great skiing conditions over the next two weeks. I know Josh hit Squaw on Sunday and had some great turns, so I’m also hoping to get to either Squaw or Rose on Wednesday even though I missed the great conditions today.
