For the purpose of this article a fast food restaurant chain is a restaurant with multiple locations in New York City where you can get a quick, cheap meal.

10 Best Fast Food Restaurant Chains in NYC (10 to 6)

10. Popeye’s Famous Fried Chicken. Several locations in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, NYC. Popeye’s makes solid fried chicken with good Cajun spices that is inexpensive. Good buttermilk biscuits and sides, my favorite being the coleslaw. Sells fried chicken on the bone, boneless tenders, and nuggets. Not the best choice of meals for the health conscious but a good treat every once in a while. See: New York City’s 10 Best Southern, Soul Food, and Cajun Restaurants

9. Famous Original Ray’s Pizza. Several locations in Manhattan including 1827 2nd Avenue, 736 7th Avenue 49th Street, 831 7th Avenue 54th Street, 250 E Houston Street between avenue A & B, 195 E Houston Street between Orchard & Ludlow Street, 462 Columbus Avenue 82nd Street, 1710 Broadway 55th street, and 204 9th Avenue. Famous Original Ray’s Pizza is not the best pizza in NYC but they make a good NY slice and are conveniently located throughout the city. Come in for a quick slice of their many varieties of NYC style pizza or if you have a few extra minutes order their meatball parmigiana. See: NYC’s 10 Best Pizza Restaurants

8. Atomic Wings. 9 locations in New York City. The main reason Atomic Wings made the list is because they are convenient with locations all over Manhattan. They also have a consistent taste from location to location. Their boneless chicken fingers are awful and not worth ordering so stick to the wings. If you like some spice in your life they have four levels of hot, suicidal being their hottest wing sauce. See: NYC’s 10 Best Buffalo Wings & Chicken Wings

7. Chipotle. Located all over Manhattan and even a location in Brooklyn. Another quick Mexican food restaurant specializing in giant flour tortilla burritos. The burritos can be huge so bring your appetite. Designed similar to Subway sandwiches where they make your burrito in front of you at the counter while you tell them what ingredients to add. I always order their barbacoa, a braised beef, and add marinated vegetables. Other choices include carnitas (pork), grilled chicken, or steak. You can choose to add rice, beans, several salsas, cheese, lettuce, sour cream, or guacamole. See: 10 Best Mexican Restaurants in New York City

6. Gray’s Papaya. 402 Avenue of the Americas, West Village & 2090 Broadway, Upper West Side. No chairs here, Gray’s Papaya keeps it simple with cheap hotdogs fast and is open 24 hours. Get the recession special for under 5 dollars which includes two all beef hot dogs and a drink. Drinks include papaya, pina colada, banana daiquiri, mango, coconut champagne, orange juice, and strawberry. See: New York City’s 10 Best Hot Dogs

Have you selected your favorite New York City sports bar to watch the next 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa soccer game only to arrive and find no seats or bar stools available? This recently happened to me as I attempted to catch a game at Nevada Smiths and was denied entry because they were at capacity. Thanks to the NYC Soccer Game Finder iPhone & iPad application I was quickly able to find another location and did not miss a second of the soccer game.

The NYC Soccer Game Finder is the perfect World Cup Soccer iPhone application in New York City to find a soccer bar, sports bar, or restaurant showing the World Cup matches. Using this iPhone & iPad application, search restaurants and bars in your vicinity of New York City by your favorite team, drink specials, food specials, and more. This application even lets you know what NYC sports bars are open for the early morning 7:30 am games and displays a list of the game schedule.

10 Best Food Carts & Street Food in New York City (10 to 6)

10. Daisy May’s BBQ Cart. 50th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, Midtown. On the coldest New York winter days, their Texas style chili is the perfect street meal. True Texas style chili includes all beef, no beans. It is a quick, hearty meal that will keep you warm. If you cannot finish it, no worries, save the leftovers. Chili is one of those few foods that actually tastes better the next day. If you want to sample more of Daisy May’s BBQ go to their restaurant located on 623 11th Avenue on the corner of 46th Street.

9. The Tamale Lady. 39th Street, between Park & Madison Avenue, Midtown. She sits in front of the Mexican embassy in the mornings until she sells out of her famous Mexican tamales. Tamales are a traditional cuisine in Latin America made of masa , ground corn, and other fillings then wrapped in a corn husk. The corn husk package is then steamed. At $1.25 each, you cannot go wrong. The Tamale Lady usually has a few kinds of tamales including cheese, chicken, and pork along with cold drinks on warm summer days and a hot drink during the wintertime.

8. Kim’s Aunt Kitchen Cart. 46th Street between 5th & 6th Avenue. The big draw here is the cheapest fried fish sandwich in midtown at $3.50. The fish sandwich is whiting but you can also order flounder or shrimp. I would stay away from the beef and other platters here, just grab the fish sandwich for lunch. Be sure to request hot sauce.

7. Veronica’s Kitchen Cart. 125 Front Street, Financial District, Downtown. If you are exploring or work in the downtown area and are in the mood for a fried chicken lunch then come to Veronica’s Kitchen. Small plates are $5 and large plates are $7. Other specialties include jerk chicken, oxtail, and curry goat. Also good sides, my favorite being the collard greens and mac-n-cheese. Lines are long during lunchtime hours so it is best to come early.

6. Hallo Berlin Cart. Northwest Corner 54th and 5th Avenue, Midtown. If you are in the mood for a good street sausage, look no further than Hallo Berlin’s wurst selection. Forget dirty water dogs, they do not have a single hot dog on the menu. The sausage selection includes knockfranks, bratwurst, aplenwurst, keilbasa, weisswurst, bauernwurst, and the Berliner, a currywurst. All wursts come as a plate or on a bun. Sides include cabbage, sauerkraut, sauteed onions, potato salad, German fries, and German cucumbers. Also serves daily specials.

NYC’s 10 Best Sandwich Shops (10 to 6)

10. Pastis. 9 9th Avenue, Meatpacking District. Best Croque Monsieur Sandwich in NYC. A Croque Monieur sandwich is the French version of a hot ham & cheese sandwich. It is one of the only sandwiches you can eat with a knife and fork. Considered French fast food it is served in most French bistros in the city. Pastis has the best. See: 10 Best French Restaurants in Manhattan, New York City

9. Junior’s Most Fabulous Cheesecakes & Dessert. 3 Locations – 386 Flatbush Avenue Ext, Brooklyn, 1515 Broadway, Times Square, & 45 Grand Central Terminal. Best Brisket of Beef Sandwiches. The original is the Brooklyn location. The food here is decent but the beef brisket sandwich really stands out is juicy and a large portion size. You will be full from this sandwich but grab a slice of cheesecake to go to eat later. See: NYC’s 10 Best New York Cheesecakes

8. Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop. 174 5th Avenue at 22nd Street, Flatiron. Best Tuna Salad Sandwich in New York City. Opened in the 1920s, Eisenberg’s is a simple, inexpensive sandwich restaurant. Normally I do not eat tuna sandwiches when I am out for lunch but at Eisenberg’s tuna salad is the only food I order. I also enjoy their tuna melts. They put their tuna meat in the blender so it comes out smooth. Patrons rave about the egg salad too.

7. Luke’s Lobster. 2 Locations – 93 East 7th Street, East Village & 242 East 81st Street, Upper East Side. Great Lobster Roll for $14, half the price of most other NYC lobster rolls. Fresh Maine lobster is cooked, wrapped airtight, and shipped to Luke’s Lobster daily. Each roll contains 4 ounces of lobster claw meat. The roll is simple for you lobster purest. The ingredients are lobster meat and a bun. Mayo, butter, and seasoning optional.

6. Barney Greengrass. 541 Amsterdam Avenue, Upper West Side. The king of the Sturgeon sandwich, $17.75. Barney Greengrass deli has been in business for 100 years with excellent sturgeon, lox, sable and whitefish. The weekends will be crowded so prepare for a long wait. See: 10 Best Pastrami Sandwiches in Manhattan, New York City

If you really want to eat good Buffalo wings and chicken wings, you need to come the restaurant when they are not crowded so the chef can put his full attention into your meal. Chicken wings can be hit & miss if the place is crowded and orders are rushed. Note, during wing specials, many places use smaller inferior quality chicken wings.

NYC’s 10 Best Buffalo Wings & Chicken Wings (10 to 6)

10. Georgia’s Eastside BBQ. 192 Orchard Street Between Houston & Stanton, Lower East Side. Georgia’s Eastside BBQ is known for their BBQ ribs, however I prefer their great BBQ chicken wings and Sampson style wings. The BBQ wings are simply the Sampson style wings with sauce. Their chicken wings are not fried like traditional buffalo wings but instead char-grilled. Grilled wings are healthier and have an additional flavor from the grill that cannot be replicated in the fryer. Order their perfectly seasoned collard greens along with the wings for a perfect healthy meal.

9. Atomic Wings. 9 locations in New York City. Find locations on their website at atomicwings.com. Atomic Wings made the list of best chicken wings in New York City for two reasons. 1. Convenience – They are located throughout Manhattan and serve up wings quickly and efficiently, more like a fast food restaurant. They also deliver. 2. Good deal – For New York City standards their wings are actually pretty tasty and cheap. Whatever you order, stay away from their boneless variety called Buffalo chicken fingers. They taste and appear highly processed and are worse than McDonald’s chicken nuggets. Stick with their standard Buffalo wings, they are decent sized and contain a good portion of meat. I like their insane sauces, I love hot wings.

8. Wildwood BBQ. 225 Park Avenue South at 18th Street, Midtown. The best boneless wings in Manhattan. If you do not like getting messy eating regular buffalo wings and boneless chicken wings are your cup of tea, then come to Wildwood BBQ. They have three flavor options, a dry rub, chipolte BBQ, and Frank’s Red Hot sauce. Also serve an excellent spicy Caribbean jerk wing. Good selection of sides including mac and cheese, creamed spinach, collard greens, baked beans, grilled corn on the cob, and more.

7. Croxley Ales. 28 Avenue B, between 2nd St & 3rd Street, East Village. Croxley is packed with the college crowd during their famous 10¢ and 20¢ buffalo wings specials including $4 pints of beer. Come Mondays and Wednesdays after 5 pm for 10¢ buffalo wings, 20¢ wings all day on Sunday, and 20¢ wings from noon to 5:00 pm on Saturday. Yes the wings are small but for this cheap you cannot go wrong. Also a good NYC sports bar to catch a World Cup Soccer Match or other sporting event. See: NYC’s 10 Best Sports Bars to Watch the Super Bowl

6. Tebaya. 144 West 19th Street, between 6th & 7th Avenue, Chelsea. Chicken wings Japanese style. Still deep fried like Buffalo chicken wings, but with a sweet coating including black pepper and sesame seed. Order as few as 8 chicken wings alone or as a combo meal. The largest order on the menu is 50 pieces of chicken wings. Not in the mood for wings and want a sandwich? I highly recommend the Katsu sandwich which is made with chicken and miso sauce. Wings only, no drumsticks.
