Doppelganger?

During the Louis Vuitton Art Walks preview of the Honolulu Academy of Art's "Hawai'i Art Now" exhibition of contemporary art, a face that looked like mine, on lower left, seemed to be staring back at me from Sally French's "Superheroes" series. Weird when that happens. This is the second time I feel like I've seen my face in a gallery.

At Hilton Lagoon

After lunch at Wailana Coffee Shop, walked over to the Hilton Lagoon and photographed the dragonboat with Diamond Head, kite surfers, plus a dog that seems to be asking its humans, "Why aren't you paddling?"

First harvest

First harvest of tomatoes. Small as they are, they offer a single burst of really intense, juicy tomato flavor!

Abandoned

Three weeks after Christmas, this is the fate of one tree, abandoned in the parking lot across from the Star-Advertiser offices. Sad. A few strands of tinsel were still on it.

Encounter with Dr. Body

Among the techniques employed by Masaaki Iwai at the newly open Dr. Body in Waikiki is a full nelson. I tried it after this woman, and after about 15 minutes of kneading, cracking and twisting my body, I felt lighter and was walking with perfect posture! It felt so good I didn't want to stop walking, lest sitting down would revert the effort and make me crumble in on myself.

At DFS Galleria's Beauty World, I updated my nail colors with five Dior Vernis Spring 2012 Garden Party colors, including orange "Aloha," and three colors from the Anselm Reyle for Dior limited-edition collection.

Ojizo

On a drive around the east side and Makapuu, stopped to take a photo of the rocks and ocean. If I hadn't done a story on Kaya Fishing Supply, I wouldn't have known what the Ojizo monument was. As a diety offering protection to fishermen and other ocean-goers, it is intended as a warning, but has also become a memorial to those lost.

Christmas is coming, via motorcycle

At the Manoa Marketplace, we parked next to these motorcycles, dressed for the holidays. We later spotted their similarly attired riders.

At TCM-Spalding House

After lunch in The Contemporary Cafe, Chris and I strolled the grounds and spent some time in Lynne Yamamoto's tin-roofed "House for Listening to Rain"—alas it drizzled only after we left—and revisited David Hockney's "L'enfant et les Sortilèges" installation in the Milton Cades Pavilion. It was a trip from lightness to darkness.
