There are plenty of people who voted for Trump Because of all the racist things he said, not just in spite of it. I have met them personally. And there are others who voted for him for other reasons. The things he has said, the people he is appointing to senior positions in govt, and Obama now starting to institute an American version of the PREVENT program in the UK do not point to good future.

If you live outside the United States or live in big cities or well educated affluent whites suburbia, or work for the US government or you are a minority person or a Muslim you believe that Donald Trump was elected by bunch of rednecks but if you live in small towns and rural America where majority of Americans live you elected:
• An outsider who will do something (tax Chinese products) about Walmart opening stores that decimate the local economy and manufacturing in America will be possible again as corporate big wigs realize they have to settle with less profit and may be just may be allow little trickle down to the middle class
• An outsider who will build a wall to stop the Mexican immigrants who are competing with the blue color workers in the service jobs such as construction and manufacturing.
• An outsider who will create massive jobs for blue color workers such as renovating airports, government buildings, bridges etc. Remember he compared US airports with Qatar airport!!
• Someone who will hire more police officers to drain the drug swamps in the inner cities
• They care less if he fondled ever lady in America or he stopped every Muslim or Mexican coming to the country, it simply does not matter to them, what matters is putting food at the table and that is a good motivation and fear that takes them to the polls to vote.

So the truth is, he was not elected by bunch of rednecks alone but lots of people that voted for Obama last two times but did not see their pain and real fear addressed in a meaningful way because such a massive project spending by a US government Republicans would not have allowed for Obama but that is another story.
So just sit back and relax next four years, if Donald Trump delivers these promises, you got another four years of Trump, but if like Obama the establishments and powers that be chain him, he will go down another big disappointment to his core constituents.

If you moved there for the sake of Allah, none of this would be an issue to you. I'm not saying you didn't, but maybe you need to rethink why you moved there. It's not like it's impossible to have a social life there, you just want it exactly like you had it in America at the masjid. First of all, most masaajid in America aren't as social as you make it seem anyway. My experience has always been different. And if the masjid you went to was social, I'm pretty sure it was because of being minorities or or fear of losing their identity that the people felt the need to meet up in the masjid. If you're in a Muslim country, why can't you focus on having a social life outside the masjid? There are masajid everywhere and people have their own family. How much social life you expect each masjid to have. Please be realistic and stop looking for what you're used to.
May Allah help you.

STOP trying to make your kids 'fit in' with english versions of powerful, strong and cultured names like a hamza... yes the correct way is with the 'A' but if you're too worried about your kid not being taught how to properly say his name and correct others who mistakenly enunciate his name improperly then that my friend is on you... dont water it down... i get you're trying to look out for the kid but you're actually dissin everything you want to instill in him... what u want is not necessarily correct.... this is me saying this as a 'U' man... only thing i will say is its just fun to spell it the unorthodox way... but again if you want to be legit, accurate its the 'A' - peace / salaams

this is an old thread, but I came here because I had never seen this name before [English, Christian] and wondered how to pronounce it. I called the person (named Humza) and said "Hoomza" (on the phone) -- because, frankly, I thought it was a Japanese name (!) Like Fukashima or Fugazi. don't ask me why, but as an "Anglo", my brain guessed the "Hoom" or "Hyoom" sound. In English, there are the proper names Hume, Hubert, Huguenot, Human, Humanity, etc. These all reinforce that "Hyoo" sound. For what it's worth, I think the spellings Haamza, or Hahmza would be helpful. Unless you really want that "hum" sound, as in Hummingbird. Also, in the previous posts, there are two words: "humus" and "hummus" (for just this reason). Like Aisha, and Abdul and Jamal, and whatever else, if it's a common name we'll eventually learn it.

I have 2 acquaintances/old friends who returned from saudi back home to the US.

Subhanallah after 5 years in Egypt I absolutely love Ramadan here. Brother seriously if you ever decide to move back home try Egypt. Even thru the turmoil I find egypt unmatched when comparing experiences of ppl in various arabic speaking countries.
Subhanallah there is a gem of a school here the likes of which I almost suspect doesn't exist anywhere in the muslim world. That is the real icing on the cake here.

I myself am in a multicultural marriage - Arab and Indian and appreciate we have quite stark cultural differences and values.

Language is living and evolving - largely Arabic prefers to maintain true to the Quranic language - however no one speaks this language in modern times. The living languages of the MENA region are always referred to as "slang" or bastardized versions of the Arabic language. Some Arabs truly believe that "Allah" speaks in Arabic and therefore see the "changing" of words or names to be an affront to the developer of Arabic (ie God)....

It is difficult for most people to understand, especially if the concept of a sophisticated God that could know more than one language is part of their beliefs.

Human beings have the right to pick, choose, pronounce and use any names they like. I don't know why we have to be constrained by yet again another ridiculous "rule" to make life harder. Isn't life already hard enough in the MENA region and for Arabs especially?

Anyway, if the theory is that Arabic is so pristine and above other languages - please advise such theorists to stop using words such as CD, United Arab Emirates, radio, internet, email etc.

What's up with all the English words?

You have raised a very important question. I have lived for some time in companionship of very devout sunnah followers in Pakistan. I have also lived in Canada for 3-4 years now. The people successfully following the sunnah put getting provisions, livelihood and job as part time while living according to the sunnah of Holy Prophet (sm) as their full time job. There are very few people like that in Canada or UK. I know a few people who have purchased their own taxis and they lease it. So they can get means to live and practice the sunnah fully. Those people in Pakistan used to farm so they could practice the sunnah fully as their work required a portion of the day.

Also, I came across a weak hadith which stated that Prophet Muhammad(sm)only hunted and gathered supplies one day in a week. According to that hadith other days were reserved for other purposes like constructing on one day, friday for marriages and spending time with family, another day to take problems to the governor etc. But even according to authentic most of the time of Prophet Muhammad (sm) was spent in remembrance of Allah, after that with family, friends and solving problems of Allah's creation. The least amount was spent on rest and personal matters etc, and making money.

So according to my understanding in modern world our priority is worldly matters. Knowingly or unknowingly we spend major component (at least 8 hours) on job etc. So in my view best thing is to create part time income and practice the sunnah if you really want to pursue that. Allah S.W.T give us all the tawfiq and hidayat to do so. Ameen

It may initially be difficult to adopt the Sunnah, for fear of being ridiculed, but this is precisely why one will be greatly rewarded by Allah (swt). It has been narrated that our Holy Prophet (saw) said:

"At the time of corruption, if one revives the Sunnah, one will be rewarded to the equivalent of one hundred martyrs in Islam"
