Abdullah bin mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
when this verse was revealed: (translation):
"it is those who believe and confuse not their beliefs with wrong - that are (truly) in security, for they are on (right) guidance."
the companions of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) were greatly perturbed. they asked: who among us (is so fortunate) that he does not wrong himself? Upon this Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) remarked:
it does not mean that which you presume. it implies that which Luqman said to his son:
(translation):

"Behold, luqman said to his son by way of instruction: "O my son! join not in worship (others) with Allah: for false worship is indeed the highest wrong-doing."

Salaam brother Naeem, Masha'Allah may Allah bless you, and guide you aswell as myself to the straight path, the path of those who have earned Allah's grace, not of those who gained his anger or those who went astray.
I know that this issue is of sensitivity and dispute since the good early days, but i would like to explain more as you said.
Regarding that i have added some Ayahs in a certain order thinking that the word of Allah would be enough, but this thing is really really controversial, even though i see no reason for that at all.
why? because the prophet {s.a.w} himself said in many hadiths that no living man can see his lord, and it is more than true that the prophet said he was alive and awake on the blessed incident of Isra' and Mi'raaj.
To add more to that Allah azza wa jal has said by his own exalted self that no vision can grasp him. Hence i repeat again why is this issue being disputed if Allah subhannahu wa ta'aala and his prophet have clearly made it obvious that Allah will not be seen only at the day of judgment and only by those who deserve.
p.s: regarding the issue of sheikhs and teachers [anonymous] has aroused; my teacher is Allah first and then the prophet second, meaning i believe whatever Allah has revealed and then the sunnah. So if any dispute have been aroused by the respected Sahaba or Ulama', i put my complete trust and reliance upon that chain of command (Qur'an & then Sunnah).

note: i would like to remind our dear brothers and sisters in Islam about the enormity of this issue by mentioning the incident of the sons of Israel, and what happened to them when they just requested to see Almighty Allah the most exalted, and the next incident is when Moses [peace be upon him] before them.
so people our religion is about the sound creed as brother Naeem mentioned, and i think that we should be careful on issues concerning it.
because Allah said:
الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَلَمْ يَلْبِسُوا إِيمَانَهُم بِظُلْمٍ أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمُ الْأَمْنُ وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ ٨٢

Your post is right on. Actually, i HAVE heard of contemporary scholars who talked about the haraam nature of modern warfare, esp WMD's. im sure there are fatwas out there on the haraam nature of bombs already.

There is the elaborate masterpiece of shaykh Qardawi on the fiqh of jihaad that came out no so long ago, im not sure if you've had the chance to have a look. it might be helpful.

As for fighting with weapons - remember my dear brothers that near the end times technology will be gone as "the muslims will be fighting using swords and horses again" (based from the hadith).

Those times might be much closer than what we all think. Much closer.

I agree with dawud israel that having the proper adaab and akhlaaq is much more important than the other points of concern at stake in this convo. What transpires in the post of Dynamic hamza and elfatih is their ATTITUDE.

When br. naeem read their posts, he must have detected JEALOUSY, pride, and arrogance. hence the frustration that can be felt in his response, esp bringing in the terms hadith-hurler etc.

Instead of reading those posts, and meditating seriously on them, and trying to benefit the most, some people find their most important priorities to be "correcting" the author. (that too on matters on which there's large iktelaaf). When they do that, it brings them some inner comfort as they receive the delusional feeling that they are better than the author. its not good! please brothers, try to make daily efforts to purify yourself from jealousy. as well as from arrogance, and from riyah.

know that by starting such futile debates, you discourage brothers like naeem to put up more posts, as he will always fear backfires from those like you. if you genuinely and sincerely wanted to know how to reconcile the hadith of Aisha with naeem's statements, you should have asked the question with the proper adaab, and IN A FRIENDLY WAY, that would not have made naeem or anyone else annoyed.

THe other thing my dear brothers that you need need to understand is, a lot of those negative mannerisms and attitudes you display, you obtained them from *some* of your teachers. it might be hard and difficult to hear that, but its the fact. Its those teachers who taught you to always "argue with daleel" and force people to come to the "correct manhaj". the intents might be sound, BUT THE METHOD IS NOT. those teachers forgot to teach you the methods, because their teachers didnt teach them. so you need to first acknowledge that, and then start setting goals to get rid of those bad weeds and attitudes. its a step by step process, and wont happen overnight. but if you take it seriously, inshAllah youll discover greater treasures further away on the road. May Allah give us all hidaya, ameen.

The example of the sword is a bit extreme - I would say that guns and tanks are 'acceptable' in the unfortunate theatre of war. My issue is with the magnitude of damage caused by modern weaponry.

Whereas guns and tanks can destroy homes, carpet bombing destroys entire landscapes. We have bombs that can annihilate almost 10 city blocks in one shot. And that's not even nuclear!

Upto a century ago, warfare consisted of guns and canons, nothing capable of mass destruction. The introduction of jets and tanks upped the ante and now ICBM's allow for destruction from the cold push of a button.

Unfortunately, contemporary scholars haven't given this shift in military advancement much thought.

Vision comprehends Him not, and He comprehends (all) vision; and He is the Knower of subtleties, the Aware. (103)

Say: I am only a mortal like you; it is revealed to me that your god is one Allah, therefore whoever hopes to meet his Lord, he should do good deeds, and not join any one in the service of his Lord. (110)

so brother naeem, after reading these precious ayahs with this sequenceو i think the tafseer of ibn katheer on that ayah mentioned in {surat annajm} has logic to it:

وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ ﴿١﴾ مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ ﴿٢﴾ وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ ﴿٣﴾ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ ﴿٤﴾ عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَىٰ ﴿٥﴾ ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَاسْتَوَىٰ ﴿٦﴾ وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَىٰ ﴿٧﴾ ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ ﴿٨﴾ فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ ﴿٩﴾ فَأَوْحَىٰ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَىٰ ﴿١٠﴾ مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰ ﴿١١﴾ أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ ﴿١٢﴾ وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ ﴿١٣﴾ عِندَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنتَهَىٰ ﴿١٤﴾ عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ ﴿١٥﴾ إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ ﴿١٦﴾ مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ ﴿١٧﴾ لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَىٰ

ibn katheer said: jibreel is the one who came close to the prophet and passed the revelation to the prophet {saw}, and then Allah adds furthermore that the prophet had seen one of the great signs of Allah, so please people this is a sensitive issue, because Allah {swt} himself mentioned that non can see him, and the term absaar in the quran has two meanings, the vision of both of the eye and heart

Allah said:
Have they not travelled in the land so that they should have hearts with which to understand, or ears with which to hear? For surely it is not the eyes that are blind, but blind are the hearts which are in the breasts. (46)

أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَتَكُونَ لَهُمْ قُلُوبٌ يَعْقِلُونَ بِهَا أَوْ آذَانٌ يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا ۖ فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَعْمَى الْأَبْصَارُ وَلَٰكِن تَعْمَى الْقُلُوبُ الَّتِي فِي الصُّدُورِ ٤٦

Assalamu Alaikum, thnx 4 the great post brNaeem. I think that in your reply to the "hadith-hurler" you stated that the majority of the ulima believe that the prophet did not see Allah. I think that that is not correct. the great majority of the ulima do believe that the prphet saw Allah (swt) saw his lord with the eyes of his bila kayf. if you read classical Aqida texts that is what you will find. it is what Asha'ari and Maturidi scholars believe.

I agree, if the brother lived on a deserted island with no other possible knowledge (or access to it) whatsoever.

But surely that isn't the case, right?

Instead, the correct course of action would have been to carry out the proper research and see what other evidence exists on this matter and what other possible opinions exist in our rich tradition.

And if we are not capable of such a gigantic effort, then let us turn to those more knowledgeable.

Twice in the Quran it is stated 'Ask the people of dhikr if you do not know'.

Gleaning rulings from the texts (Quran/Sunna) is not a Do-it-yourself project liking building a patio.

Let us give our deen at least that much respect.
