Jamb Result 2012 - The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB has officially announced the release of the UTME result for the 2012 matriculation examination that took place on March 24.Some of the JAMB UTME result has been uploaded, while most of it is still being uploaded. To check your JAMB UTME 2012 result visit, http://www.jamb.org.ng/Unifiedtme/Default.aspx. Note that JAMB states the result can be checked at www.myjambonline.com/, but nothing is happening there yet. You require your PIN, Reg No., or Serial No. to check your JAMB UTME 2012 result.

Out of 3001 centres used for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination this year, results of 52 centres has been withheld, Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dibu Ojerinde has said.

Speaking while announcing the release of the 2012 UTME result in Abuja yesterday, he said the withheld results were still been verified by the board.

The centers include two in Abia, three in Benue, three in Delta, 24 in Rivers, 11 in Lagos and six in Imo.

He stressed that the centres are being investigated for various cases of examination malpractices.

A total of 1,503,931 candidates were registered for the 2012 UTME, which held across the country on March 24, making it the one with the highest number of registered candidates since the existence of JAMB.

Ojerinde said that Imo had the highest number of applicants with 123,865 candidates; Delta came second with 88,876 candidates while Anambra placed third with 84,204 candidates.

Conversely, FCT recorded the lowest number with 3,380 candidates, Sokoto placed next with 5, 664 candidates while 5,713 candidates sat from Zamfara.

He said the University of Lagos recorded the highest applicants with 83,865 candidates; Nnamdi Azikiwe University came second with 82,148 candidates while University of Benin came third with 80,048 candidates

JAMB 2012 : JAMB faults report on cancellation of UTME centres in North
The management of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has faulted report that the board has cancelled some Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centres in the North due to the security challenges being experienced.
A statement made available to Newsmen by the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Timothy Oyedeji, described the reports in some national dailies as mischievous and unfortunate, noting that “they have attempted to distort what was an honest and fair response to a question raised at the recently concluded 58th edition of the National Council on Education (NCE).”

According to him, the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. ‘Dibu Ojerinde was asked by newsmen that in view of the obvious security challenges in the North Eastern part of the country, which had resulted in the bombing of schools by the Boko Haram sect, was the board ready to cancel or relocate those centres.

Oyedeji said Prof. Ojerinde replied thus: “It is unfortunate that we are experiencing this development in the North-east. I can assure you that the problem is isolated to primary schools. However, God forbids, if we have such problem in tertiary institutions, the board will be forced to take some remedial actions.”
The image maker of JAMB added that the management dissociated itself from the false publications that it had approved the cancellation of some centres, stressing “this is false, impossible and unthinkable as it is not within the purview of the board’s mandate to cancel UTME in some centres without due authorisation from the supervising authority.

He also denied the insinuation that a House of Representatives member, Aminu Suleiman Fagge (PDP Kano), moved a resolution on floor of the lower chambers under a matter of urgent national importance that “the House feels saddened that JAMB, saddled with the responsibility of creating a pathway for national development should be denying desirous candidates access to tertiary education.”

He (Fagge) thus averred that “JAMB’s decision to suspend the conduct of 2012 UTME in those areas is driven by an ulterior motive.” But Oyedeji said the report credited to the lawmaker was incorrect, noting “it is against the backdrop of the fact that JAMB as a responsible government agency is guided by rules, regulations and due process, hence, the board can never take a rash decision as is being portrayed.”

It was a battle of boobs among the hundreds of ladies, who thronged the Lagos, Nigeria open casting/auditions of contestants for the season seven of the M-Net Africa’s hit television reality show, Big Brother Africa, tagged ‘Double Up’ yesterday.

At the early morning auditions held at Protea Leadway Hotel, Maryland, the excitement was infectious as many of the applicants, especially the female folks, dressed in revealing attires with their cleavages pouting as if intended to create a ‘boob factor’ during the casting.
However, the audition was a thrilling experience, full of excitement and abundance of display of talents, according to an executive of M-Net Africa, who witnessed the open casting and audition.
The producers had announced that entrants would have to double up to compete. According to a statement, “Whether you enter with your best friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, mom, dad, brother, sister, boss, husband, wife, neighbour, hairdresser, whomever…you must just make sure that you enter as a pair. So who will take the journey of a lifetime with you? Remember you may have to spend a long time with them in the house so choose carefully!”
And so, while many came with their partners, others came with their aunts and some with friends. Some who were auditioned kept to the instructions not to discuss their experience with the media, others shared their optimism of making it to the BBA House when the show commences.
Dr. May Blossom Brown, a grandmother, who came to the audition with her nephew, Munachinso Ejiofor, as partner for the show, said she had a wonderful time with the other younger contestants who came for the auditioning and very positive that they will make it to the finals of the series.
Another contestant who simply called herself Gabriella was at the auditions with her friend, Tope. They are looking forward to be selected and be part of the show main show itself.
M-Net has announced that it will be another 91 days full of drama, action and unimaginable entertainment when BBA 7 hits screens in May. Also, the bounty for this year’s edition has been increased to a staggering $300,000.
Biola Alabi, Managing Director, M-Net Africa, said the show is definitely a high demand property that draws and holds audiences from start to finish.
She adds that viewers should expect something different from past editions as the show tries to always re-invent with each new edition.
“We’ve had positive feedback from BBA fans who love the challenge of entering in pairs. It’s great to see them embrace the change so enthusiastically,” said Alabi.

Afolake Awoyemi, A Nigerian woman who had travelled from Paris, France via Air France flight No. 6 claiming to be pregnant has given birth this past Wednesday at JFK‘s international terminal. Not to a baby child but a rather healthy stash of heroin.

Asked if she was pregnant the 42 year old woman wearing a loose fitting garment responded that she was indeed expecting but when subjected to a partial body search officials (she was said to be particularly nervous thus eliciting attention) found she was expecting something else dear to heart.
The woman, Afolake Awoyemi, was then subjected to a x ray search where she was found to have ingested up to 25 pellets of the good shit. Ms Awoyemi was then asked to spend the remainder of the day ‘delivering’ the contraband in the lavatory using a special high-tech commode that sanitises the incriminating evidence, which customs officials refer to as the ‘Drug Loo’. With experienced drug mules able to consume up to 200 pellets it was thought that this may have been the Nigerian woman’s maiden drug mule expedition. It was estimated that Ms Awoyemi’s stash would have retailed for $20 000 on the street. Come Friday the woman was still hospitalized, nevertheless it was said she was expected to regain her health as she facing the magistrate some time this morning.
Authorities also speculate had just one of the pellets had ruptured inside her stomach, Afolake Awoyemi would have most certainly died. Her payoff for the scheme has been estimated at $2000. Certainly not the best risk reward ratio one could hope for given the circumstances.

NIGERIA Hit Back At South Africa Last Night As 28 South Africans Were Refused Entry Into Nigeria

Nigerian immigration officials Monday night refused 28 South African nationals entry into Nigeria in what appeared to be a retaliatory move following the deportation of 125 Nigerian passengers from South Africa
, who had arrived onboard an Arik Air flight last the weekend.

The South African immigration officials had accused the deported Nigerian passengers of being in possession of fake yellow fever certificates. But the federal government of Nigeria through the foreign Minister Olugbenga Ashiru Monday issued the South African Government a warning to either behave or face sanctions from Nigeria.

The South African government has however not issued any formal communication concerning the incident.

The barred South African nationals had arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport onboard a South African Airways flight which originated from Johannesburg and touched down at about 9.30 pm

A senior immigration official at the international airport confirmed the development to THEWILL Tuesday morning, saying, the South African passengers have been deported.

A source said: “The Federal Government decided to deny these 28 South Africans entry because of invalid documents and relevant health certificate clearance. “We are also deporting them back to South Africa. The Presidency has been notified of this action.

“We will no longer overlook certain procedures which we have condoned in the spirit of African brotherhood.”

Earlier yesterday, Nigeria had threatened to retaliate South Africa’s maltreatment of Nigerians. Interior Minister Albo Moro said: “I want to assure you on one thing. The Federal Government has the capacity to reciprocate appropriately if it is found that (the deportation) was not done in good faith.”

He added: “At the moment, Nigeria maintains a very cordial diplomatic relations with South Africa and I can assure you that we will react appropriately if it is found that South Africa has taken unfriendly action against Nigeria.

Moro spoke to reporters at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Also yesterday, the Federal Government summoned the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Kingsley Mambolo.

Sodiq Adeojo,20 years old was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his involvement in the murder of 17 year-old Sylvester Akapalara on December 29,2010.

Sylvester Akapalara,17,was found dying in the stairwell of the Pelican Estate,in Peckham,South-East London,in December 2010.

He had been chased by a gang brandishing knives and a gun before being shot in the neck and chest,the Old Bailey read.

Sodiq Adeojo,20,of Peckham,was found guilty in December last year of murder,two counts of attempted murder and having weapons.

He was however sentenced to detention for life with a minimum term of 30 years.

According to Judge Timothy Pontius,Sylvester was in the wrong place at the wrong time.He said further that Sylvester was a promising young athlete of remarkable ability.

Sodiq Adeojo was also given concurrent 22-year sentences for attempted murder and 14 years for having gun.Three other teenagers were cleared and a fifth faces a retrial.

Alhaji Yekini Adeojo,one of Ibadan’s top politician has finally opened up on the issue of one Sodiq Adeojo who was recently sentenced in the U.K in connection with the death of young Sylvester Akapalara.

Sodiq Adeojo was alleged to have been Chief Adeojo’s son but the well respected politician has since cleared the air on the issue in a telephone chat.

He said; I don’t have any child called Sodiq.Besides,Adeojo is a family name and there could be many Adeojos.

I have said it over and over again that,the boy is not my son.

E Passport Nigeria Online Application Procedure
E-Passport - Applying for the Nigeria e-passport has become less arduous and less chaotic since the introduction of the e-passport regime by the Nigeria Immigration Service.
What this means is that Nigerians at home or abroad can now acquire a new international passport and get renewal done faster through the Nigeria Immigration Service e-passport application online portal.

Therefore, to kick start your Nigeria e-passport application online below are the steps to follow.

Step One: Log on to the internet and visit the Home page of Nigeria Immigration service online Portal

Step Two: Look for the e-Passport Application Form and click to start the e-passport application process

Step three: Select and click the passport type you to apply for (Standard e-Passport OR Official e-Passport) and fill in your data on the form.

Step four: Now click on the check box ‘I ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS FORM’

Step five: PRINT a copy of the application form filled above for keeps.

Step six: Click on the Application submit button to view your details

Step seven: Next is Click on Proceed to Online Payment, select Payment option and choose either to Pay in Naira” or Pay in Dollars.

You can make payment for the e-passport in Naira online with your e-Wallet if you have one or pay through some designated banks in Nigeria.

If you paying through a bank in Nigeria select the bank of your choice.

The official cost of obtaining e-passport in Nigeria about N9000 but, if somebody is helping to process it you pay about N20, 000

Step eight: After selecting the bank to pay application fee, please Print Payment Acknowledgment Slip with Transaction ID, Application ID & Reference Number.

Now go to the bank you have selected above with the printed copy of your Payment acknowledgement slip and make payment.

Step Nine: After paying at the bank you will issued a pay4me e-receipt that contains a (VALIDATION NUMBER).

Step ten: Now go to the Nigeria immigration service website e-passport portal QUERY YOUR APPLICATION PAYMENT STATUS and entre your passport application ID and Reference Number.

Select PAY4ME and input the VALIDATION NUMBER to confirm payment.

Step Eleven: After payment confirmation click on the “Search Record” button to view your details and the date set for your interview.

NOTE: Print a copy of the application Receipt or Acknowledgement Slip. (You will need them for your interview).

NYSC Batch A 2012 orientation commences on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 and run until March 27, 2012, according to information available at the NYSC website.
NYSC prelim list for Batch C 2011 corps members should be displayed at various institutions, for corrections between January 24 and 27, 2012. The NYSC callup letters will be available at various institutions for collection by prospective NYSC Batch A corps members from February 28, 2012. NYSC 2012 Batch A is the first for 2012, two other batches will be mobililised for NYSC in 2012.

Note that candidates posted to the volatile states of Kano, Yobe, Niger, and Borno will commence their orientation on March 22, 2012 and will not do their Batch A orientation in their state of posting. NYSC orientation will hold for 2 weeks in 8 states. NYSC Tips for prospective corps members. Meanwhile NYSC corps members will now be deployed to sectors of rural health, primary and secondary education, rural infrastructural development and agricultural development. So, no more bank and oil company jobs.

All candidates due for NYSC programme may do their registration online (Not sure of whether pre-registration will be available for NYSC Batch A, 2012). This if done in this batch will reduce the cumbersome nature of registrations at NYSC orientation camps. However, note that even if registration is done online, some form of registration may still be done in camp so make sure to go to the NYSC orientation camp with your full credentials. Foreign based candidates must visit NYSC Headquarters at Abuja personally for registration. With an eNYSC scratch card priced at N250 prospective NYSC corps members can gain access to the authorized NYSC pre-registration websites. You will need the callup number on the NYSC preliminary list for the online registration. The Prelim List can be viewed online.

NYSC Batch C 2011, Batch B, 2011, and Batch A, 2011 are currently on primary assignment. The next batch due for service is NYSC Batch A, 2012 and will be going for camping from March 6, 2012.

Depending on the procedure chosen by NYSC, pre-registration for NYSC orientation may be done on the internet (if allowed for this batch) at the following NYSC websites. You will need your callup number from the NYSC preliminary list to do the online registration However, NYSC may not allow pre-regsitration for this batch. If pre-registration is allowed, NYSC eNYSC scratch cards can be purchased at all NYSC State secretariats and all Afribank (now MainStreet Bank) branches in Nigeria at N250 only.

Currently on service are NYSC Batch A, 2011, NYSC Batch B, 2011 and NYSC Batch C, 2011. The next Batch for NYSC will be NYSC Batch A, 2012. The NYSC 2012 Batch A orientation commences March 6, 2012.

Prospective NYSC corps members may also require another scratch card to fill the book of life, which is a database containing details of every NYSC corps member. You may be required to complete both the NYSC pre-registration and book of life, before NYSC orientation camping. Both NYSC scratch cards can be acquired at all NYSC Secretariats and all AfriBank branches nationwide.

THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the adjustment of its timetable for the 2012 Batch ‘A’ orientation course for corps members in some states of the federation.

A statement by the Head of Public Relations Unit of the NYSC, Mrs Clara Babatunde, in Abuja, on Thursday, conveying the changes, said Benue, Nasarawa, Katsina and Kwara states would have their orientation courses from Tuesday, March 6 to March 20.
The statement also indicated that Borno, Yobe, Kano and Niger states would also hold theirs from Thursday, March 22 to Thursday, April 5.
Mrs Babatunde, however, said corps members posted to Borno, Yobe, Kano and Niger states were to note that their camping exercise would be held in the camps located in Benue, Nasarawa, Katsina and Kwara states respectively.
According to her, all these adjustments have been reflected on the call-up letters of the corps members in the affected states and are to be strictly adhered to.
She further clarified that the 2012 Batch ‘A’ orientation course in all the states not affected by this adjustment would be held from Tuesday, March 6 to Tuesday March 27.

Adegboyega Adeniji A man who is believed to be responsible for smuggling hundreds of millions of pounds worth of drugs into the UK has been jailed for 30 years, following an investigation by the UK Border Agency.

According to the London Daily News Adegboyega Adeniji, 48, of Sandmere Close in Hemel Hempstead was stopped by border officers at Heathrow after he arrived on a flight from Amsterdam on April 4, 2011.

Searches of his two suitcases revealed they contained a huge quantity of drugs – 31kg of cocaine, 5kg of heroin and 2kg of methamphetamine. In total the haul had a street value of over £4m (N1bn).

When UK Border Agency investigators searched a flat he rented in Regent’s Plaza, Kilburn, they unearthed another 23 suitcases, many of which tested positive for traces of drugs.

They also found evidence that he had done the same journey to Amsterdam on many previous occasions, travelling under the guise of a businessman who supplied heavy machinery to the oil business in Nigeria.

As well as the abandoned suitcases UK Border Agency investigators also found scales, a money counting machine, further packages of drugs and around £2,000 (N500,000) cash.

Analysis of his mobile phone showed he had regular contacts with associates in Amsterdam. Some of the texts he sent read like shopping lists of illegal drugs and prices.

Adegboyega Adeniji used a room in hotels or rented apartment to do his drug deals. Text messages were found inviting others to the hotel, and these matched his pattern of travel to Amsterdam. Many of the names in the texts matched names found on the packages of drugs he was found with at Heathrow.

Checks on his bank records showed unidentified cash deposits of almost £1m (N250m) had gone into his account.

Since Adeniji’s arrests assets of between £500,000 (N125m) and £1m (N250m) have been frozen by UK Border Agency investigators. They will now be the subject of Proceeds of Crime Act confiscation proceedings.

Adegboyega Adeniji admitted importation charges, but denied conspiring to import class A drugs. A jury at Isleworth Crown Court unanimously found him guilty. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison the same day.

Kwame Ofosu-Asare, 17, was cornered on a housing estate in Brixton, south London, before being repeatedly knifed.

His murder followed the stabbing of another 17-year-old in nearby West Norwood hours earlier and five other stabbings in the previous week.

Police patrols have been stepped up and emergency stop-and-search powers introduced in the wake of the violence.

The murdered teenager, also known as Kwemz, died in an ambulance after being attacked at 5.50pm on Friday.

Police believe the sixth-form student was with a friend on their way to a relative’s house in Brixton.

Det Ch Insp John McFarlane said: ‘Kwame was an innocent young man enjoying himself on a Friday afternoon when he was pursued and attacked by two knifemen’.

The victim in the West Norwood stabbing is in a stable condition in hospital. Gangs expert Tony Thompson said: ‘This sounds like a turf war’.

Ishola Adeyomi Adeoye, A Nigerian man, 26, who raped a 14-year old girl, was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison, following a week-long trial at the Old Bailey.

Ishola Adeoye took the victim to his house in Woolwich, south east London, having met her on the street in nearby Plumstead. He raped the schoolgirl after giving her alcohol, which caused her to pass out.

Police say the victim awoke in the morning and was not aware of what had happened to her, but began to suspect something when she began to feel pain.

A report was made to the police and the girl underwent a forensic examination.

Officers launched an investigation and the DNA profile taken was matched to Adeoye.

Detective Constable, Pete Thompson, said: "This was an horrendous act committed against a vulnerable 14 year old girl. Adeoye tried to deny the offence and when the evidence against him was so strong he ended up changing his account".

He continued: "The victim showed a tremendous amount of courage and bravery to give evidence against the defendant. I hope that this result can go some way in helping both her and her family come to terms with what has happened".

Ishola Adeoye had denied rape, but was convicted following a week-long trial at the Old Bailey. He was sentenced on March 2.
