French Tip Trick Nails

Happy Friday everybody! Last night I got an email asking about how to do french tips, and I realized it’s one of the more common questions on the site, so wanted to do a quick breakdown on one of the tricks for making french tips a little easier. If you’re not ready to freehand the tips, and aren’t really happy with the flatline you get with using tape, here’s your fix: rubber bands.
Because they’re so pliable they’re going to be able to really bend to the shape of your nail without puckering like tape and can help create a more natural tip outline. I’ll usually start with a smaller rubber band and then knot it in half, like so:

Then (and forgive the angle on this, it’s really hard taking a picture in this position for some reason) I’ll use that to slip one loop over the top of my nail and the other over my thumb to help anchor the rubber band/pull it taut enough that it won’t wiggle out of place. I like to use the mounds of my fingertips to sort of determine where the line starts and stops: if you’re wrapping the rubber band over a lot of skin you’re probably going to get a pretty deep tip in the end (insert “that’s what she said” joke here).

You can use any polish or paint you want to go in and drop some color (or just white) onto that tip of nail that’s left exposed. If you’ve got acrylic paint on hand I’d really suggest using that since it won’t slide and slip as much as nail polish (once you put it on there, it’s on… and if you screw up monumentally it just takes a little water to fix)… but polish is fine. Just don’t glob a lot on there, work in thin layers if you need to build up the color — this will help keep the polish from bleeding out on the sides of your nails.
Finish it off with a topcoat and voila, you’ve got yourself some easy french tips!

This mani, for the record, is on a FOUR coat base of Essie Bags to Riches, which even then wasn’t a great cover with some odd bare spots, so I used some gold embossing powder to fill in the more naked bits… frustrating, because I like the color a lot, but can’t be bothered with that sort of application. "If your hand isn't steady enough to do nail art, try techniques that don't involve painting on your nail, like splatter nails or cutting sections of stickers to create neat effects. Instead of using a nail-art brush, buy a very tiny, cheap paint brush from your local art store. The longer handle gives you more control, and this way, you can use every color in your collection. Also, in some designs, sometimes going back and forth between colors gets a more polished, finished look rather than painting an entire nail one color and doing designs on top of that. Finally, always wait for your nails to completely dry before adding the topcoat. I've messed up some pretty cool nails by them bleeding together [because I put the topcoat on too soon]."

"To create a cool marbled effect, put several different pastel colors and one metallic color — I recommend gold — in individual plastic cups and add a little polish remover to each cup. Paint your nail white, let it dry, then sponge paint on the colors, one color at a time, using a cut-up makeup sponge and some tweezers. For perfect-sized polka dots, use a Q-Tip. When painting with your weaker hand, move your stronger hand where you want the design to go and just keep the paint brush steady in your weaker hand — the dominant hand will do all the work, resulting in a cleaner design. Lastly, to clean up any errant lacquer, dip a paint brush in polish remover and 'erase' your mistakes."

"To start, wipe the surface of your nail clean with nail-polish remover before applying polish or stickers. This will remove any oil and makes the manicure last longer. To make hearts, use the rounded-handle end of a paint brush to place two dots of polish next to each other, then use the brush side to draw a V connecting the two dots and fill it in for your heart. To create the half moon manicure, use reinforcement stickers — those circular stickers for hole-punched paper. Select two colors and then paint your nails with the color you want the half moon to be. Once it's completely dry, apply half the sticker to the bottom of your nail and paint the tips of your nail the other color. Peel off the sticker and voilà!"

"Always buff the surface of your nail first with a foam buffer to make your polish go on as smooth as possible. Also, a good topcoat always makes your mistakes less obvious — I like Seche Vite. Stylish nail 2012: trendy colors

All shades of red nail polish remain actual, you can see it in Giles, Emanuel Ungaro, Vionnet, Bebe, Adam collections. Almost all of the fashion designers tend to combine this color with short nails. Blue will become one of the most trendy colors. Gareth Pugh and Cacharel suggested stylish women to choose it next fall and winter.
Global brands took care of bright colors fans as well. It is lime color, like in Chanel, turquoise - as in Thakoon and bright yellow in D & G.

Classic grey, like in Felder Felder and Karen Walker, and black – as in Zang Toi and Tracy Reese won’t lose its relevance.

Airbrushing in the field of nail art has enabled intricate designs. Various top nail technicians make use of this technique to give their customers highly detailed and beautiful designs. Rather than using a simple a simple nail polish or decals, airbrushing with the help of an airbrush machine can allow you get a variety of neat looking professionally done nails.

This technique is used in most professional nail bars by nail artists. All that is needed is the airbrush machine which works the air from the air compressor, nail colors and stencils. Creativity and imagination on the part of the person doing airbrush nail art is important. Designs can be overlapped to get better designs. The artist’s hand should be good at the brush as mastering it takes quite a bit of time and patience. Determination and practice is what is most needed on the part of the nail technician.

These airbrush tool works the best with double action. It also comes in single action but the control is much more with the double action airbrushing tool. The airbrush also needs a compressor in which case CO2 tanks or air propellants can also be used.

If you plan on giving this a try and are a do-it-yourselfer, watch to understand the proper application procedures or research and observe a nail artist doing it. The tools have to be right as they are essential and the use of right colors is also important. While working with colors, use the contrast principle by using a light base and dark colors to design or vice versa, for the design to start out on the nails.

AIRBRUSHING YOUR OWN NAILS USING GINA'S SECRET

A super simple method I've used for 8 years.
Here's how I airbrush my OWN nails:

**Brace yourself, this is an awesome trick!**

(1) Get one of those stovetop covers or a flat cake pan and then turn it over-- flat surface up.
(2) Get two small, one-inch, FLAT magnets.
(3) Place the magnets on TOP of the stencil--about 1 inch from the EDGE of the pan, and on BOTH sides, near the image you want to spray.
(4) Then push the stencil edges TOGETHER to form a small "dome".
(5) Next, simply insert your finger UNDER that dome and lift UP until the stencil is FLUSH with your nail surface...then spray!
(6) Press your finger DOWN, then out of the dome to reveal the results.

WALLA! This is how I've been doing MY OWN NAILS for over 8 years!

Would you like to be the hit at your next halloween party? Add a festive touch to any halloween costume with these easy-to-make halloween nail art ideas!

things you’ll need:

Nail Polish Base Coat
Nail Polish of your choice
Nail Polish Top Coat
Nail Art Brush

Creating a fun and festive nail design is a great way to dress up any halloween costume, or to bring a little of this fun and spooky holiday with you into the office. To begin to create your spiderweb halloween nails, paint a clear base coat onto all of your nails and allow it to dry, which should take about 5 minutes. This acts to protect your natural nails from the Nail Polish as well as to give the Nail Polish something to cling to, so it is a very important step!
Once your base coat has dried, pick a color for your solid coat. A nice orange is a great color to choose for the halloween nails, but black, gray or green are also great. Remember, you are going to be painting the spiderwebs on top of this color!. Paint your nails totally with the solid color that you have chosen. This may take two or even three coats (depending on the polish) to get the desired effect. Remember, you want your nails to be completely covered! Wait for this solid coat to dry before moving onto the next step.
For your spiderwebs, you want a color that will stand out against your solid coat. Black on orange always looks great for halloween, but remember that white on black, black on green or orange on black are all great combinations, or use colors not associated with halloween for a more avante garde look!. Once you have chosen your spiderweb color, get ready to paint by dipping your Nail Art Brush into the paint bottle and gently wiping it against the rim…we are going to paint delicate lines, so you want to make sure you are not going to have any big glops of Nail Polish on your brush!
Begin by drawing a 90 degree angle in the corner of your nail at the base near the cuticle. Then draw a straight line up from the corner of the nail, creating two 45 degree angles.
To create your spiderwebs, connect the three lines to each other with swooping lines in between. Connect the bottom line to the middle line and the middle line to the top line. Do this again, right above the first set of swooping lines to create two rows of curved lines.
If your spiderwebs still look a little bit sparse, use the nail brush to draw more straight lines in between the 45 degree angles that we already created. Simply begin in the corner of the nail where the web is based and draw a straight line outward. This should give your spiderwebs a more intricate and delicate look, just like the real thing!
