But today I have a review of the Born Pretty Store BP-L051 stamping plate* to share with you which I used to create this gorgeous mandala design. I love how I can always rely on stamping to create intricate nail art with minimal work!<br /> <br /> This stamping plate comes with 17 gorgeous designs. I had a hard time picking which one I wanted to use first but decided on the one you can see in the bottom right photo. As with other Born Pretty stamping plates I own, I had no problems with stamping and the designs seem etched deep enough into the plate. I like how there are different sized designs, some would fill the entire nail, while others can be used to create half moon designs (like mine!).</div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> <br /></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> I used A England's Lady of The Lake as my base colour. It's such a gorgeous purple holo polish and the formula is so smooth! Once the foil glue turned transparent, I pressed the holo foil onto my nail to transfer the holo design and applied a water based top coat. Then I painted random stripes of green, blue, orange and purple and let that dry. I used a black nail art pen to create an irregular circle in the centre of the nail and filled the circle with black polish. I placed a diamond nail sticker in the middle of the circle and outlined the circle with a white nail art pen. Then I applied a coat of top coat.<br /> <br /> <br /> Other Fingers:<br /> <br /> I painted my nails black and let it dry. Then I used a white polish to create thick lines of various length at the tip of the nail. I went over those lines in various colours (green, blue, orange and purple). Then I outlined them using a white nail art pen. On my thumb, index and little finger I made a gradient using yellow and orange polish and a sponge. I applied top coat over my middle and ring nail and let it dry before applying the chevron vinyl vertically on the nail. Then I painted the left side of the nail orange and the right side yellow. I quickly removed the vinyl before the polish dried to leave the chevron design. The next theme for the Weekly Nail Art Challenge is 'Pearl'. I struggled with this theme because I had no idea how to create this effect on my nails. I don't have any pearl nail art decorations or any white pearlescent polish, but after a quick google search I found that you can get pearls in a range of colours such as purple, green and orange. This gave me the idea to use some of my duochrome polishes from the Barry M Aquarium collection for this design. Then I used white polish to make a semi circle on the tip of my middle nail for the panda face. I then used black and white nail art pens to fill in the details. For my other nails I used green polish and a small brush to make what was supposed to be bamboo with leaves coming off it. Basically, I painted my nails white. Then I painted a small square of white nail polish on my Uber Mat and put some blobs of grey, black and olive polish on the sides of the white square. I used a toothpick to drag lines through the colours, pressed the stamper over it to pick up the marble effect and transferred it to my nails. I made sure to apply a latex barrier around my nails first to protect the skin from getting nail polish on it! Then I drew the butterfly wings with black acrylic paint. Applying a top coat first means you can scratch off the acrylic paint if you make a mistake. That definitely helped as I was able to smooth and neaten the lines. Then I applied a thin coat of blue shimmer polish. Next I painted a coat of the iridescent flakie polish and then another thin coat of multichrome flakie. I made sure to let it dry in between coats. I top coated with Glisten and Glow HK Girl top coat.<br /> <br /> It seems like I've painted a lot of coats and that this design would take ages to dry, but I promise it doesn't! The multichrome flakie was applied really sparingly - almost like when doing a dry brush design. The same goes for the blue shimmer. Oops!</div> <div> <br /></div> <div> I think this stamping plate is really versatile and the geometric shapes could be stamped over any kind of base, whether that's a gradient (like I did), glitter, or even just a plain colour. This is exactly like drag marbling so you have to make sure all the polish stays wet while dragging. I made 10 decals in total (1 for each nail).</li> <li>I applied a fast dry top coat and waited 20-30 mins for the decals to dry.&nbsp;</li> <li>Once they were dry I painted a coat of the nude polish on my nail, peeled the decal off the mat and stuck it on my nail.</li> <li>The excess decal can be cut using some small scissors and the bits left around the cuticle can be cleaned up using a small brush and nail polish remover. I also used the brush and polish remover to seal down the edges of the decal to my nail.</li> <li>I applied one final layer of top coat to seal everything in and that's it!</li> </ul> </div> <div> <br /></div> <div> Overall, I much prefer this method to actual water marbling as it's quicker (in the 20 mins I was waiting for it to dry, I could go and do other things because it wasn't on my nails!) and you end up using less nail polish than proper water marbling. Also if you make a mistake while dragging polish - just create another decal!
