Nail Art Paint vs Gel Paint

With 2 New Paint Ranges just launched at Nails and Co. before Christmas, I can see that it may be difficult to decide which product is right for you, or right for what you are trying to achieve, so if this is you, or you simply want to know more about everything new, then read on!

What on Earth is Gel Paint ?!?

This is a Brand new Concept to the UK, We at Nails & Co. (and our Partner Sam Biddle) were the first to bring it to the UK from the Be Creative Range of Products.

So it is not suprising to have been asked questions about this most recent product launch. The Gel Paint Collection has 6 Colours, giving you a great start in the right direction. The colours are highly pigmented, so you can use in small amounts and super thin applications without worry of losing the colour, the trick is to use it as if it were a paint, but the beauty is it doesnt dry....you can move, manipulate, add, take away and create your design for as long as you want, but it wont dry or cure until you pop that design under the Lamp!

So here goes...please feel free to ask any additional questions as a comment below, but i hope this answers alot of your questions to start with.

QUESTION:
What is Gel Paint: It is a revolutionary new Product with all of the benefits or regular nail art paints and Gels rilled into one product. It creates a super thin application, so you can now build a gel design without the bulk!

Gel Paint, as demonstrated my Sam Biddle.

Do you have to cure it under a Lamp? YES, you will need to cure this as it is a Gel product.
UV or LED? Be Creative's Gel Paint will cure under both, UV and LED Lamps.

How do i use it? Use a small amount of Gel Paint on a Kolinsky Sable or Synthetic brush, you can create great detailed using a smal detailer brush, as you can see (right) in this christmas design by Sam Biddle, without creating any thickness to the nail.

Can I mix the colours? Yes you can mix the Gel Paint colours, have a play with them see how many great new colours you can create. There are more colour collections coming soon!

Will it work with Gel Polish? Yes, the Gel Paints are so thin that you can easily create a detailed design over or inside Gel Polish, it is flexible so it wont crack and will not add bulk to your thin Gel Polish enhancements.

Will it work with Acrylic aswell? Yes, you can use the Gel Polishes on any enhancement surface, for best results, use over a buffed surface and use a suitable Gel Top Coat over the design to finish.

How Crazy is my Life!!

Its been a mad year for me, i have been backstage, modelled, created, photographed and educated. Its a busy time of year at christmas for salons, but i think everyone enjoys a few days off, when we can ge them. Even though i dont do clients anymore, salons still need product, and support, so i have donated, judged and been invited to the festivities, which has been lovely!

What's to come in 2012?

I have a few exciting projects on the go, including the return of the Nails and Co Roadshow (after taking a break in 2011 to Exhibit my own Nail Art Range, Creative Ten at British Beauty) i will be bringing the Roadshow back to Town! Birmingham will be the venue for the 4th Annual Event which has been growing bigger and more inviting each year. YES! the Nail Competition will be back, so get honing your skills. I will announce more details as i secure dates etc, but it already looking very exciting.

Miss England Finals

Well another hectic week, getting ready for the Miss england Finals last week was a funny old time.

It was all a bit lastminute.com as these things usually are, but through a collegue and very good friend of mine, Michael Blackham, i was thrilled to be able to take the EzFlow Team UK to the Miss England Finals to tend the nails of all of the girls....and there were alot of them!

Streamed live on the Miss England Website all day throughout run throughs as well as the live show in the evening, we were placed in prime position for the cameras, just to the left of the runway.

We all arrived at the Hilton Hotel in Birmingham at around 9.15am, and prepared our EzFlow and Orly Products and made sure our Swarovski Rhinestones were nice and shiny and ready to be applied.

As sponsor of the show my Company was providing some Goody Bags for the contestants, so out came the sought after Black Patent EzFlow Bags, and we stuffed them with information, Rhinestones, Nail Art Stickers and some cute Orly Mini Polishes (Kindly supplied by Farrah Gray and Thea Hastilow of Grafton International)

Working on Kate and Jessica the hosts for the Evening, as the run through's go on behind us.

Once setup we watched some of the run through, and then got to work on the nails.
Michael and Claire did Jessica Linley's, (Miss england 2010) nails with a set of EzFlow acrylics painted with an Orly Metallic silver from the Bling in the New Year collection and drapped in Swarovski Rhinestones supplied by Creative Ten, before she took to the runway and handed over her crown to the new Miss england. I also did the nails of Sophie Gandhorkia's, an 8 year old breakdancer, who has started in 4 films and has another coming out in 2012, she wore Orly Basket Case and had her nails bling'd up with Swarovski. Claire Woodcock made sure the Host for the evening, Kate Solomons nails were perfect wth a set of EzFlow Pink and Whites and Lindsey made sure Designer Karen Karmody had perfect polish for the show, of course adding a few well placed Swarovski Crystals, as she loves them so much... We spent all day tending to the contestants nails between run throughs, then a few of us were invited to stay and watch the show and attend the after party, which was very glamourous with Celebrity Judge, Andrew O'Keefe on the panel.

The Girls loved having their nails done before the show, so much so that we have been invited back again next year!

Loved every minute of this day, and i must say this was the nicest group of girls i have ever met, not just on a set but EVER! I can't wait for next year.

Life in the fast lane - Beauty UK 2011

Well admittedly it has taken me a while to update my blog, Life is pretty hectic at the moment, last month i teamed up with Sam Biddle to bring tech's in the Midlands some new products myself and Sam have started distributing or designed ourselves and think are amazing!

It was an unusual concept for an exhibition stand, as we created a 'room setting' showing our customers we understand that they buy our Sam Biddle 'Be Inspired' DVD's and get all of your products out to have a 'play' in front of the DVD and try out the new techniques you have just learned.

We also were thrilled to have launched a number of brand new products at the show, we showcased the new Nail Art Pens, Paints, Pure Pigment, Something Different with Gel and Acrylic DVD's and Arabella Nail Forms in demonstrations by Sam Biddle all day long, which went down a treat with passing tech's, sometimes having spectators 4 deep trying to view the latest techniques.

On the stand we had Nails and Co.'s in house nail art brand Creative Ten, Sam Biddle Products, Swarovski Crystal Rhinestones, EzFlow Design Kits and Artistic Nail Design products, so there was plenty to get those artistic juices going.

The team we had were amazing so i would like to say a special thankyou to Claire Woodcock (Ezflow Master Artist Educator), Michael Blackham (EzFlow Educator), Laura Hughes (EzFlow Education Manager and Educator) Georgina Taylor (EzFlow Brand Manager) and Jessica Horton (Ezflow Nail Tech and Nails and Co Office Manager) everyone did a fab job and hopefully enjoyed themselves along the way.

There is alot more in the pipeline from myself and Sam, hopefully coming very soon, so i will let you all know the details as soon as i can.

It is a very exciting time for us and hopefully you enjoy the new innovations too!

Well today i spent some time with Luke Clarke from the Level 3 group at Bristol College. Lecturer Mandy Veale asked me to give Luke some pointers to help him along with his entry into UK skills.

Luke is very enthusiastic about nails and has a real talent for acrylics, with his keen eye for detail and love for EzFlow Products, Luke picks up techniques very quickly so is a joy to work with. Luke has real potential, so i wish him good luck in the regional heats coming up.

EzFlow Re-Certs...The Results are in...

As always with my work, and anyone who knows me will tell you, my job takes me all over the UK and the last 12 months have been even more manic as i have taken Ezflow to salons and techs in London and the South as well as my own area of Midlands and Wales. Fitting it all in, for me can be difficult sometimes and i thought January would be a little different, not only is it traditionally the quietest month for salons, but i had 2 students putting themsleves through 4 days of critique, long working hours, homework, presentations, written tests, practical tests and much more alongside....Still...they both passed with flying colours and i suddenly had 2 brand new Ezflow Educators who were willing to share the education with me...Thank Goodness!

Well....after a little umming and aarrring, it was my time to decide if i wanted to resit my Educators Certificate...it had been delayed slightly but was due to take place early February. Could i fit it all in? did i want to keep educating? now i have 2 educators to help? This would be the 3rd time i have resat my exams in 3 years, usually unheard of but if you know me you will know i dont settle, i push myself, i always want to achieve more so OF COURSE I WAS GOING TO RESIT!! I was already a Master Artist Educator but theres always last years points to beat, so i started my homework....

Educators week is a full packed week, as mentioned it doesnt just end when the day finishes, because then there is homework and revision, and of course you have to find time to eat and get some sleep, and when you share a room with 2 fellow Ezflow Educators (Claire Woodcock and Vikki Taylor-Dodds) and one of them (Vikki!!!) does sleep untl 4am...on average...sleep becomes very important! Thank God fo ipads and headphones!

We had a real laugh sharing and had a few stories to tell by the end of the week, but it has been a LONG few weeks waiting for the results, Claire and Vikki were both hoping, along with the other girls, to go through as Master Artist Educators, i am pleased to say that they all did. Even more exciting, my very good friend Sam Biddle achieved the highest level of educator in EzFlow, gaining International Master Artist Educator status which i am absolutely thrilled about.

It was a great week all in all with my collegues and friends, because we are all friends, we help and support each other when there is that enevitable moment of doubt that creeps upon you, i had a great week, and Thankyou to everyone for being such fantastic girls....

Orly Training at Grafton International

I have been really excited about today for a few weeks....I sell Orly Polishes as part of my distribution business, but have never really seen or heard the 'pitch' so i was intrigued when the opportunity to meet Orly Global Educator, Catherine Baek cam along....

I arrived at Graftons extremely early, as i had a 45 min meeting with the covering EzFlow Brand Manager (whilst our own Amber Ivison is on maternity leave) Georgina Taylor, as we have so many ideas, we have been meeting regularly to discuss progress and developments, so with the sit down done, i wondered back downstairs to meet the Orly UK girls and get started.

Well, you wouldn't think so much went into a polish range, but its fascinating...learning that saturday night fever, the movie, was Orly's first step into the celebrity circle and it just went crazy from there....Jeff Pink (founder of Orly) actually invented the french manicure, which he originally called 'the natural nail look' developed for the director of a film, who was struggling with the amount of time it takes to change actresses nail polish to suit their frequent costume changes, he asked Jeff to come up with a 'universal look' and Jeff once again came through with his 'natural nail look'. It then became known as the french manicure, when Jeff took the look to France and found they LOVED it, so decided to name it the 'French Manicure' of course at that time there wa no such thing as white nail polish, so it had to be developed and Orly were the first to develop, manufacture and distribute white nail polish.

Orly is in many countries worldwide, and has a strong, loyal following and learning all about the products, i can see why...i know why i approached Graftons to sell it...it was because i had tried it, and of all the polished we tech's hoard over the years, Orly was my favourite and it was amazing that Graftons held the distribution in the UK, so the deal was done, but i never really looked into the treatment side of Orly, never knew the ethos behind it, never even asked about where it all began and where it is going, but i have a new found love for Orly after today and Catherine Baek has so much passion for the brand, she truly is an inspiration to us.

There is alot coming from Orly, and i hope to be a part of it in the future, Orly i described as 'Vibrant' when we travelled around the room with only one word each to describe Orly, but inspirational, colourful and innovative also came up. I love Orly, and i couldnt wait to come home and change the polish on my toes just because i could!

Another High Profile Salon takes on EzFlow

I love my job! i get to meet such lovely people and work to helping them reach their goals, which is so rewarding. A big name in celebrity aesthetics has decided now is the time to branch out into nail enhancements, so asked around....my name came up more than once and with the help of my good friend Adam Miller-Bond (recently seen on MTV's my Super Sweet World Class) it didnt take much to convince her that Rebecca and EzFlow was the way forward, as everyone knows we go together like strawberries and cream, it just works... and thankfully this shows through when i talk to people.

So the education started and the girls are lovely! they have completed 2 long...days already, just to fit the education into all of our busy schedules we have had to tweak the timings a little, but we have managed it and the girls are flying through and loving it!

One day to go, i have no doubt they will all do really well on their qualification day, but as we all know it takes practice to become a good tech, so its all down to them until i see them next....

Weekend in Dusseldorf

Well Dusseldorf is not the first place i would think of ti spend a long weekend, but when i learned there was a massive beauty exhibition on, i knew i had to go.
This exhibition had been recommended to me by a fellow EzFlow Distributor for Greece, she had told me if i wanted to immerse myself in a massive show in Europe Dusseldorf is a major player, so as soon as i found out the dates i booked it up for myself and esteemed collegue Sam Biddle.

So off we trotted to the airport alot earlier than either of us wanted to on a friday morning, but it was exciting so that kind of takes the edge off the fact that it is 4am.
After arriving and having a look around the old town of Dusseldorf on friday, it started raining so we left to head back to the hotel for a power nap....oooohhh the high paced life of business people!
That evening we met with Carla Collier, International competition judge and cover artist, for dinner and aagin the ideas started to flow, its so exciting!

At the show the next day we knew what we were looking for...we were networking, finding the right people to talk to, looking for new ideas, new products and we found some!! (as well as seeing some familiar faces too!)

Without giving away the punchline, there's alot coming from myself and Sam, brimming with ideas (as we always are when we get together) we have alot of new and exciting things in the pipeline, let alone the 'Creating inspiration Together' Roadshow classes already proving very popular.

Dusseldorf was great, an exciting weekend for us, maybe next time we will plan a trip further out, maybe USA, maybe Japan? i can only imagine what we will be like over there, like kids in a sweet show, no doubt!

Be Inspired...with Sam Biddle

Well its been a lovely 2 days spent with my good friends Sam Biddle and Vikki Taylor-Dodds in Newcastle.

Sam's 'Be Inspired' classes are fully booked all over the world and with a joint venture from myself and Sam coming soon ( The, Creating Inspiration Together Roadshow ) i was ecstatic to be invited up to Newcastle by my EzFlow collegue Vikki to support her and Sam with Arabella Forms, Artistic Nail Design and Swarovski Crystal Rhinestones for the class.
The class were a joy and left with a wealth of new techniques and ideas as is usual on a Sam Biddle Class, then it was off to the Italian for dinner and discussions for new and exciting classes begun.....All top secret for the time being of course.....but very exciting all the same!

Wednesday was amazing as the 3 of us had an amazing 'playday' learning new things from each other and playing around with new ideas. I just love getting together with my friends we all get so much out of it.

I am so pleased to have been offered the opportunity by Amber Ivison, EzFlow UK Brand Manager to conduct the education alongside Jo Shirley, Master Artist Educator for Urban Retreat in Harrods, Lomdon.

I have been working with the Tech's at Urban Retreat since September last year and some of the tech's have come from knowing very little about a system to really impressing me when we get together, its amazing how these girls skills have improved, this is why i became an Educator, seeing their confidence building is so rewarding.
