Lavender Diamonds

Hi!
This mani is a third or fourth take on geometric diamonds mani, this time I chose purple tones. I love how easy yet effective this design is! I have a tutorial right here, so you can give it a try yourself.

The base for this design was Nubar #loveit (above), and I'm wearing Rimmel 312 Ultra Violet on the other three (or six) nails.

I do consider this design easy to do but it still takes so much time! So it's perfect for like one or two accent nails on each hand. I made all ten nails once and believe me, you don't want to do that if you don't have like 4 hours to waste :D.

Today I'll be showing you a design I wore on my birthday (which was in April, yes, I'm late with this :D). I chose my new favourite polish colour: China Glaze More To Explore. I'm not a fan of the formula, really, it's uneasy to work with. But the colour! Oh, I love it.

The nail art was inspired by this mani I saw on Marta's (from Chit Chat Nails) Instagram; hers was stamped on, but when I saw it I thought it wouldn't be hard to hand paint at all. And so I did the other day.

The polishes I used were China Glaze More To Explore, Rimmel 803 Man Overboard, Rimmel 703 White Hot Love and Essence BTGN high gloss as a top sealer.
For the nail art I first painted my nail white (mainly one half of it) and then I covered the other half with the peachy China Glaze. The design itself was done using black and white (for corrections) acrylic paint.

I loved wearing this! It was combination of my favourite things.
What do you think? Do you pick special manis for your b-day? (wrong question, everybody does, huh? :D )

Spring Roses

Hello!
The other day I remembered I love florals. I mean, I love florals on nails. And of course on clothes, but that's another story (rather another obsession :D). My colour choice was inspired by this photo I saw over at The Illustrated Nail's Instagram - I couldn't resist using that floral combo.
I have a tutorial right here for my roses from earlier in case you were interested :).

The base is Nubar #loveit, gorgeous lavender polish I review here. The rest is acrylic paint and short thin brush. Sealed with Essence BTGN high gloss. And as I mentioned above, you can find all about the process here.

I'm surprised I don't were florals all the time since I like them so much on my nails and I quite enjoy painting them. But somehow I much more often end up with some geometry. What is that? :D

Pastel Abstraction

Hello!
So in case it wasn't obvious: I'm terribly behind with posting. The design I'll be showing you today is from March. Yes, that's right.
I have nubbins here, since this is the nail art I wore for a skiing trip and that needs to be comfortable. For travelling I like to have nude base a colours that go with any clothes (because I have to match, it's like a disorder).

The base isn't pure polish, it's dry stroke technique with a mixture of some nude polishes (don't ask me to remember which ones, please :D ). On that base I painted some colourful shapes with acrylic paint and outlined them with black and white.
All sealed with Essence BTGN.

I've been loving geometric abstraction lately!

Bright Watercolor

Today's design is one of those I paint out of nothing, no plan. I thought I would paint a delicate pattern of some sort, but I ended up with abstract watercolour.

The Process:
The base is Rimmel 703 White Hot Love, my favourite white polish.
To get the watercolour effect I thinned the acrylic paint with a lot of water so it actually worked like watercolour. I used round brush with a bit of the paint and very lightly stroked my nails in different directions. To get the colour thicker for highlights I added a bit of the thick acrylic paint to my watercolour paint.

This technique has a lot of upsides, it isn't very time consuming and it's really easy to do with your non-dominant hand.
I'm not the best when it comes to watercolour on paper, but I really enjoy it on nails. It's great, give it a try yourself!

Road Trip Nail Art & China Glaze Swatches

Hey there!
Today is a first. First swatch post! I didn't want to do a post with swatches only, so I took some inspiration and created new nail design for this collection I was swatching.
It was China Glaze Road Trip, which has been around for few months already, but for some reason it came to local (=Czech) distributors just about now. I got 6 shades of total 12 of the collection.
My road trip nail art was inspired by a top I bought on my last trip. I wanted to go detailed and really stick with the fabric pattern but I failed there and went with whatever-comes-to-my-mind tribal.

First a bit about the NAIL ART.

I used four shades from the collection, Rimmel 703 White Hot Love white and a lot of acrylic paint. I also left some negative spaces as I've wanted to try that for a while.
All is sealed with Essence BTGN and mattified with Essence 24/7 nail base.
To paint the lines and details I used the same (blue) long thin brush I always use (I might post I photo, huh). Hopefully I achieved the look I was going for. When I showed the nails to my sister, she recognised the hippie vibes... what do you think? Does it make you think of a road trip?

Now to the SWATCHES.
In the order I was swatching them let me present you China Glaze Road Trip.

First I wasn't sure I liked the China Glaze brush, but one I polished one nail, I was excited - I was able to polish whole hand without getting the polish all over my fingers (no, really, I usually tend to be messy). Sometimes I didn't even have to do any clean up!
The drying time was always good, when I finished first coat on the fifth nail, I could go back to the first for the second coat, as the first coat was dry enough.
The formula was always rather thin it would be ridiculously easy to pool your cuticles.
The coverage was a surprise - where I expected opacity, I got jelly-ish and vice versa. However, all polishes were more or less opaque in two coats.

And the first is...

Trip Of A Lime Time
It could be the formula or the fact that this was the first polish I was swatching that made the polishing super pleasant. I didn't even have to clean up here! The colour is lime green creme, probably not for everyone but I can imagine some fun retro nail art with this. This is two coats and you can see a little bit of nail line.

Sun's Up Top Down
So far I didn't have very good experience with yellow polishes but this one surprised me! It has light shimmer that didn't translate well to the photos. The formula was again thin but easy to apply and didn't make stripes. Opaque in two coats.

Pop The Trunk
I'm not into reds. Just no. However, when I had this one on, it felt sexy. Yes, exactly that.
This tomato creme colour was almost opaque after one coat. Two coats in the photo.

More To Explore
Here comes my favourite. I loved the colour the moment I saw it. It's coral creme or bleached neon. I was disappointed by the formula though - maybe it was just me, but this polish didn't apply very evenly. It could have been opaque in two coats, but I had to add third one to smooth out the imperfections.

License & Registration Pls
I am a blue polish person and I own a lot of blue polishes. I thought I already had this colour but I was happy to be proved wrong. This one is quite unique! It has sheer formula, almost jelly, but is still perfectly opaque in two coats.

My Way Or The Highway
This one has also a bit of jelly character, but not as much as the blue. Good coverage, nice to look at.

Uuuh, that was a long one. How did I do with my first swatching?

I must admit I thought I wouldn't like doing this, but I actually enjoyed all the polishing and comparing. For me the winner is totally More To Explore. I also have some fun ideas concerning License & Registration, but I'm afraid it's not the kind of colour I would get to use often, no matter how much I like it. My first meeting with China Glaze polishes went very well and I can see what everybody loves about this brand now.

Matching Lace

Hello!
I'm feeling ill these days and that's the perfect time to dream and remember past cheerful days.
It was a month ago when we had a Venice-carnival-themed school ball. Nobody really took the carnival thing very seriously, but a lot of people brought masks - I was one of them. When I was thinking of my nail design for this event I was inspired by my dress and my mask, that I also decorated myself.

The Process:
The base is Rimmel 703 White Hot Love with dry brush strokes of greys, black and white on top. The baroque pattern is freehanded with detailing brush. To add a bit of edgy feel I painted the outer edge of each nail with The New Black black polish. All sealed with Essence BTGN high gloss.

Finally the mask and the dress AND the nails! (desaturated, because it looks cooler)
The mask originally came all black, the white parts are my work. I painted them on with white acrylic paint and small flat brush.

So that's what happens when I get extra creative. I throw away all the studying that's on my plate and I get to painting stuff. Like masks. Or nails.
The mask, being all glorious and mysterious itself, had also quite mysterious ending. Long story short, I didn't find it anywhere after the ball. It is lost forever. But the few days of its existence were filled with excitement and joy.

Distressed Wood

I needed something subtle and classy for a formal event. I was thinking black and white, but I ended up with these, wood with ikat-ish chevron.

The Process:
To get the wooden base, I started with nude polish and then picked several shades of brown polishes and stroked the nude with almost dry brushes. You know, like the distressed technique. Then I took one of my tiny brushes and painted on the white chevron pattern with acrylic paint.

What I used:
Rimmel 367 Bare Necessities (base)
Maybelline Colorama 165
The New Black (the one above, and another off-white one)
Essence BTGN high gloss top sealer
white acrylic paint

I'm still loving the wooden look. So simple to do, yet effective, give it a try if you haven't already!

Flourish

Sun is back! Or at least here it is :). So today I'm posting a fresh spring-ish mani I did a while ago and almost forgot to post.
It was inspired by vector flourish pictures and nature. I originally wanted to add there some flowers too, but I liked it as simple as it was just with the green swirls.

I used my detailing brush and acrylic paint. The base is as usual Rimmel White Hot Love, the top coat Essence BTGN high gloss.

When I asked on the Instagram what does the design remind them of, I got answers like poison ivy and jack and the bean stalk. I didn't realise it before, but they were totally right! To me this mani felt just super fresh and, well, flourish.

Retro Chic (+tutorial)

I have a tutorial for you today :). I was looking forward to posting this but I didn't get to do it until now. This design was somehow inspired by Boom Nails, who did several similar designs earlier. I took pictures during the process so I have a tutorial for you below and a short review of the base polish: Nubar InstaChic.

About the polish...

I certainly love the colour and its finish. The drying time was better than everage and I was pleasantly surpriced by its opacity; I used two coats here. Same as the other Nubar polish I reviewed earlier, this one didn't last as long without chipping as for example some Rimmel polishes. And again, I don't like this Nubar brush much, it's rather difficult for me to work with.
Nubar claims their polishes to be cruelty free & vegan friendly.

And to the tutorial...

I have a different kind of tutorial than usual, I took photos during the process so I thought I would be good to use them. It's self-explaining I would say, so just briefly:
1. polish your nails with some base colour
2. paint shapes
3. doodle as you wish

Sugar & Cream

Todays design was inspired by something I was seeing around this winter, simple sweather-ish pattern. The base is Cuccio polish Sugar & Cream, a colour I would probably never buy myself, but I got the chance to try it for a review. It didn't really go well with my skin tone I think, but I surprisingly like it now, looking at the pictures.

About the polish...
I used two to three coats, two were usually enough. I liked the formula and I totally loved the brush, it was just the right size. What I wasn't comfortable with was the colour, as I mentioned before.
It has very delicate shimmer which you can see mattified in the pictures with the design.

I wore this design just for a day or two, I didn't even paint my right hand, that's why I'm not showing it. I really liked it mattified, the polish I used as matte top coat is Essence 24/7 nail base.

Melting Stripes (+tutorial)

I have a tutorial for you today! I haven't done any in a long time so I was definitely up for doing this one when I was asked for it on the Instagram after a posted a picture of this design. The design was partly inspired by Try My Hand, talented nail blogger who stopped posting about a year ago.
Besides the tutorial I'll be doing a short review of the Nubar #loveit polish you can see below, Polycolor acrylic paint and Platinum nail art brush.

Tutorial and my tools after the jump.

The Process:
1. Paint your nails with light nail polish.
2. Choose several colours and paint horizontal stripes. You don't need to be super precise here, you'll be "melting" them anyway.
3. Melt your stripes. Take tiny brush and start with the drops, the process is the same as with any other drops.
4. Finish the look, correct the imperfections.

My Tools:
The base colour is Nubar #loveit, gorgeous light purple from their summer collection.

I think I used two to three coats, the opacity is better than I expected. The formula would be fine but I honestly didn't like the brush, it made the polishing rather difficult along with the formula. Or maybe it's just me.
I also felt like it didn't last as long without chipping as for example some Rimmel polishes. (This means like 3 days instead of 5.) I'm willing to forgive this polishes some imperfections cause I totally fell in love with the way it looks on my nails! Plus Nubar claims their polishes to be cruelty free & vegan friendly :).

The paint I used this time was Polycolor acrylic paint for nail art. I was pleasantly surprised with its opacity, I had no problems painting white over black (this design really needed that!). It has great formula and it doesn't dry entirely matte. (Okay, I honestly never know what to judge when it comes to reviewing acrylics.)

The brush I used is Platinum Nail Art II. brush. It isn't thin enough and I might cut it down a bit in the future. But for now I wanted to try it the way it comes; I used it only for the stripes and then I switched to my detailing brush to paint the tiny drops.

These products were provided to me by modelaznehtu.cz, Czech online store with all you need for nail art and gels. I don't know how many of you are Czech or Slovak (hey, let me know in the comments, I'm so curious!), but if you are, you can get a lot of great nail supplies there.

Midnight Tribal

Hey!
I hope you're all having lovely holidays.
I did today's mani few weeks ago, it was supposed to be Christmas themed, but it turned out other way. Still you can see little trees and tiny fish that I painted to get it at least a little bit christmasy.
The day after I painted this I left to Germany for the whole week and I didn't get to take photos with my normal camera. I had to go with my cell phone and as I didn't really have time to play around with nails, my photos are rather bad. Forgive me this time, please.

I took a photo of the base:

I used the dry brush technique with several colourful polishes. It looked strange when I started, but the result was pretty great. The white base was Rimmel White Hot Love and the top coat Essence BTGN high gloss as usual.

Brocade Nails

Do you remember my baroque nails? I even made a tutorial for them! And today I'm showing you a new version of my baroque design. I used it just as an accent nail, it was a busy week but I still wanted special nails.

I don't have the best photos this time, I couldn't get good light in this winter weather.

To get the tiny details I used the long brush above, I usually use it as a striper, but I found out it is great for details too.

What I used:
Rimmel 367 Bare Necessities
The New Black dark purple
Essence BTGN top sealer high gloss
acrylic paint

I had no idea what to call this design. I did it a while ago for a mani swap with talented Swiftpolish (picture of the swap at the end of this post) and I got a lot of positive reactions - and I also liked it very much myself.

The Process:
I started with white base, Rimmel 703 White Hot Love.
Then I used longer brush and acrylic paint to paint the colourful stripy part. I added some black stripes to have more contrast.
I outlined the black part and then I filled it with black polish.
I sealed it with Essence BTGN high gloss.

As an extra something I added a halfmoon to my thumb, I felt like it would suit it better.

And as I promised: a picture of our maniswap, you could have seen it earlier on the Instagram.

It's been a long time since I made a tutorial. I did these nails about a month ago and I finally got to make the tuto and the post.

The Process:
1. Paint your nails white.
2. Start with red dots.
3. Add green stem and leaves.
4. Add highlights. White dots to the cherries, dark and light green strokes to the leaves.

What I used:
For the red dots I used a toothpick, then for the green lines and leaves the detailing brush above.
The white base is Rimmel 703 White Hot Love, the colours are acrylics.
As a base coat I used Essence BTGN high gloss and then Essence 24/7 matte polish.

I hope everything about the process is clear. I loved wearing this and I got so many comments, some even from strangers!

Tribal Chevron

Hey!
Today's mani was inspired by Very Emily, one of my favourite nail artists. It's all freehand and all Rimmel and acrylics. I loved this surprising colour combo and I knew I would recreate the mani the moment I saw it. For the tribal-ish design, I started with white base, made teal and violet chevron stripes and finished it with black tribal details.

What I used:
Rimmel 703 White Hot Love
Rimmel 500 Peppermint
Rimmel 312 Ultra Violet
Essence BTGN top sealer high gloss
acrylic paint

The last photo is from my IG, my nails next to my inspiration.
I love wearing this and I took it off after more than a week. I tend to wear my manis for so long these days! And then I'm not as productive as I used to be, oh yes.

Halloween Tribal

Hello!
Finally. I'm back home from the USA, the trip was awesome but I didn't have time to do my nails or to blog, so I ended up wearing this halloween mani for 14 days (!!). Minor chips occurred but I was pleasantly surprised how long it could last. I'm also a bit late with posting this (a bit? haha, 10 days), as it was meant for halloween.

These nails were inspired by Christmas Tribal (tutorial included!) I did last year. I wanted to wear something intricate for such a long trip.

A lot of detail takes a lot of patience and good brushes. The brushes I used are from Born Pretty Store. I used the first one from the left for all the thicker lines, the middle one for details and the last one for thin lines. (Check out my brush review.)

To see the process head over to my Christmas Tribal tutorial, it was pretty similar.
The white base is Rimmel 703 White Hot Love, top coat Essence BTGN high gloss and the rest are acrylics.

This one above is from Virginia Beach, we had perfect weather! What you see is the design on the sixth day of wearing. Yes. Really.

I'm so behind with posting! I'm ashamed, but I'll be busy travelling during next few weeks so it probably won't get better any time soon. If you want to follow my most recent designs, be sure to check my Instagram ;) Let's have a look at todays design:

I wanted to use black and white acrylic paint and I also wanted to try this silver The New Black polish. I ended up with quite out-of-my-comfort-zone design.

I started with the black thick lines and then I added the white ones.
I used this cut-down brush above from Born Pretty Store (review here) and put a matte top coat on top.

A short one today, I need to go now to do some preparing for my trip to the US! Oh yes, and I'm really excited as I have never left Europe before.

Celebration Nails

Hi!
As some of you may know, there was a contest about a month (or two) ago at the Nailpolis to celebrate their reaching 1 million facebook fans. The task was to create ultimate celebration mani, you can find out more here. It sounded fun, so I decided to come up with something too.

And you know what? I won! :)
There were three winners and I was lucky enough to be one of them.

And yes, I'm terribly late with posting this, I have no excuse. Sorry.

The base is Rimmel 703 White Hot Love, I painted the waterfall lines using acrylics and thin liner brush, then I went over it with a detailing brush and black acrylic paint and I created those balloons and bunting. The celebration nails were born. I added a reference to the Nailpolis celebration on my thumb so everybody knows what these nails are celebrating. At the end I put a layer of matte top coat over it.

The last task was to take good photos and pick one of them. Now you can see this design in the cover photo of Nailpolis' facebook page (or in the history of cover photos, if it's not there anymore when you're reading this).

Sky High

Hello!

Today's design was supposed to look completely different. I was actually going for abstract geometric kind of design, but it went wrong at the beginning and I painted some swirls instead. So here I am posting another Van-Gogh-ish mani, another swirls, cause I love them so much.

I started with white Rimmel 703 White Hot Love base, then I put on few (at the end invisible) stripes of blue and yellow polish, as this was intended to be an abstract geometric design. Then I took a tiny brush and tried to follow my geometric idea. After a moment I realised I'm painting swirls. There was no way back.

I'm a student and I have a part-time job in a cafe as a waitress and during the week I was wearing these, we had sort of barista lesson, I was learning how to do cappuccinos with latte art and stuff.

This is in the middle of my training, not the best latte art yet, but getting there. It was incredibly fun to do!

Abstract Painting

I did this design quite a long ago, few months I think, but somehow I didn't get to post it until now.

I got the inspiration from a painting I saw in my Art class in school, it looked very similar, but in red.

The polish I used as a base was gorgeous blue The New Black.

...and this is how it looked in the middle of the process. I painted the rounds first and then I added the stripes.

Pop Geometry (+tutorial)

Hey!
I sat down the other day to paint my nails without anything specific on my mind. I got to painting and I ended up with popular geometric pattern, or, whatever you want to call it.

Sooo... The real reason why I made a tutorial for this mani was that I installed Inkscape, vector graphics editor, into my computer and I couldn't wait to try it. The result is exactly the same as before, but the process should be easier from now on. Also I was told that using MS PowerPoint for vector graphics is bullshit and that I HAVE TO switch to something proper. So I did.

I guess the process is quite obvious.

After I did the first Born Pretty Brush Kit review I realised I didn't have many detailing brushes. So I got some...

I painted these nail art wheel nails and then I trimmed the brushes down, they are thin, but I prefer thinner. Keep reading for a closer looks and some more about the paint I use.

I wanted to try these myself after I saw that pretty awesome nail artist Celine from Celine Does Nails used them in many of her the super detailed designs. Before trimming it took a lot of patience to use them, I'm really used to thinner brushes, but I guess that's just me, since Celine loved them so much!

The kit contains 4 brushes of different sizes and different colours, which is something a really appreciate, it's easier for me to find the one I want to use in the moment, if you know what I mean.

I don't have many designs painted with these to show you, but I did some on my nail art wheel also using acrylic paint from Born Pretty.

If you use acrylic paint as well, you probably know how fast you run out of these two colors - black and white. After I finished those from my acrylic paint set I bought some new in local craft store but I was curious about the paint they have in BPS. This means I have tried three brands so far.
I love this black, it was perfectly opaque, I wasn't so excited about the white, it's as good as the one I have from local craft store, I would expect it more opaque, but as you can see in the photos it's opaque enough. There is nothing I could complain about otherwise.

I feel like the price is too high for a 12ml bottle, but then that's what happens when you want to buy just ONE piece instead of the whole set, right?
