Hi! Today I have a really pretty lacquer for you. It's not mine, sadly, but I borrowed it from my friend, and it's amazing! This one is even prettier in real life, but yesterday there was no sun so.. :( *flash* This was two coats, and application was just perfect. I really love this color, and I don't have anything like this!

Sooo what do you think? I really love the whole Anchors Away collection! Too bad I don't have a lot of money to spend right now, so I only bought White Cap from that collection :)

I also ordered Flying Dragon and Ruby Pumps (finally!) so stay tuned!

NYC Love Letters

So I thought, let's make a comeback with this gorgeous polish! You don't wanna know how long ago these were taken. You also don't wanna know how hard it was to photograph this beauty... *sunlight* Soo sorry for the unwrapped tips and the tiny peace of thread near my index. I honestly don't know why I didn't delete this pic, but this is the only one that truly shows the beautiful duochrome! I'll just tell you everything I remember from this polish. It was two coats over a black base, and I had no trouble applying it.

So what do you think of this polish? Gorgeous or what? I'd love to wear this over purple or blue, too, sometime, just to see how it will look :) xoxo, Lois

P.S. Can anyone here help me get China Glaze's crackle polishes? I'd looooove to have the black, white and lightblue ones, but I can't get them anywhere without ridiculous prices. Anyone wanna swap or something? Let me know, please!

Hi everyone! So as some of you may have noticed I haven't been updating the past 2 months or so. I started updating less when I had a testweek, then the period inbetween I didn't feel like posting, then I had another testweek and now.... I don't know. When I posted daily on this blog, I used to be on the computer for hours posting, looking for new polish collections and mostly, keeping up with other blogs. I realised I didn't want to spend all my time doing this, but what should I do? If I don't keep up with other blogs, I would be behind on everything and not knowing what's going on, so... I don't wanna shut this blog down! But my nails are sad & short now, and I definitely don't have time to do my nails EVERYday. I don't know if any of you read this, but should I go on? I feel like most of you totally forgot me 'cause I haven't posted lately, and I understand :) For now, I'll just start taking pics of my nails again, and build up the posting slowly. So I haven't posted in like, two weeks. I have the flu, and I'm still not really feeling well. Still, I hope I'm able to go outside today, I want neon nail polish for the musical we're about to do. Hope I can post regularly again :)

Here we have Catrice Oriental Orange, of an LE they did a while ago called Caramé.

I don't know why they called it Orange, because this is more a red polish with a slight orange tone in it. Definitely not a true orange.

This was 3 or 4 coats I think. See my sad pinkie? :(

I really love this jelly! It really doesn't disappoint!

Nail art Take a Bow

I know, that's such a lame name for this nail design. But I couldn't do better :)
I've been really busy these past few weeks, since I'm doing this school musical (we're doing Hair), and this whole weekend I've been going to school from morning to evening. Saturday night I did my nails and came up with this cute design at some really friends of ours, so the polish and rhinestones aren't mine!

I think this lacquer is SO gorgeous! It's from Koh! Cosmetics, and it's called Midnight passion if I remember correctly. Pretty, isn't it?

I think the bows are supercute, too! I got a lot of compliments on this one :D

And a little question: I've been DYING to get OPI's Katy Perry Collection, especially Black Shatter, Last Friday Night and Teenage Dream. On ebay they're pretty expensive, and you don't wanna know the ridiculous price they ask for OPI here. Can anyone here get them cheap? Maybe arrange a swap? Or I could just pay for them? Shoot me an email at looiss at live dot nl! Help me out! :)

Nameless old Catrice polish

So I found this one hiding somewhere while organising my polishes by color. I totally forgot about this old Catrice, there's no name on the bottle. I think this one had the number 15, not entirely sure.

I do think this is pretty! So sad it's nameless! Don't you think this one deserves a name? I don't care if it were a stupid name like Purple Passion. Just give the damn polish a NAME.

I bought this oldie about 3 years ago I think. This was released before Catrice's new and improved line, which included their Ultimate Nail Lacquer Collection. I don't know about you guys, but before their improved line, wasn't Catrice kind of unknown? Well, at least, I didn't know about the brand at all. I just picked this up when I was about 12 years old and thought I was really cool, going to a drugstore all by myself. And only buy this one single polish. So stupid.

In the pics this is more reddish, but this is really more purple in real life. I love the shimmers! What do you think about this oldie?

Isn't this perfection? Look at that black holo-goodness! My god! This looks even prettier in the sun, but sadly there isn't a lot of sun over here these days.

I got so exited trying all my new polishes I recently got from Rachel Marie, that I wore this only one day. On the second day I added a matte topcoat (from Diamond Cosmetics), but that was a total failure. As I told and posted before, it left cracks all over, and not in the good way! It looked horrible and took it right off.

Loooook at that! Gorgeous! Did I make you want this polish? :)

I saw Betty Pages in South Pacific at Dior, street-wise punks at the venerable houses of Balmain and Bottega Venetta, sexy Suzie Wongs at Louis Vuitton, cool minimalist nuns at Celine and Chloe, and walking crayons at Prada and Jil Sander. I love that women are encouraged to have fun with fashion again and our wardrobes can reflect our multi-faceted personalities. That's why I've named my spring polish collection Iconic/Ironic, hues to juxtaposition against every version of yourself."

The 'irony' comes from wearing unexpected polish colors. Offset all those brights with a neutral light cocoa or a grounding black hue. Make your punk looks more tongue-in-chic with lavender nails. It's about adding that surprising detail that keeps you on your (well-pedicured) toes.

Decorous is a perfectly ladylike light cocoa, a hardly boring neutral to offset bright tropical hues or to add a chic finish to an all-black ensemble.

Recherché is a purplish dark brown prune, an exotic accent that grounds oversize prints better than an expected summer pink or coral.

Insouciant is the toned-down gray lilac of a pressed corsage. Punked out rather than pastel. Wear it with Bardot-worthy uber-feminine dresses, muddied neutrals or nonchalant leather-clad rocker ensembles.

So I've never ordered any RBL before, because they're SO expensive. Come on, 18 dollars for just one bottle? I don't know about you, but I'm not rich! I do need Iconoclast, Insouciant and Decorous, and I don't think Recherché is very unique. I just hope there will be some dupes of these!

Converse Nail Design Failure!

I did this one a while ago. And it's TOTALLY messed up. Take a look and see for yourself:

Horror, horror. Firstly, the letters 'converse' on my index didn't fit, so that looked weird, and I accidentally smudged it with my topcoat. Don't get that, because I had left it more than an hour to dry and it still smudged! The star on my thumb isn't symmetric at all, and I only like my middle finger. But, as you can see, I used black as my background and that doesn't fit at all with the rest of the design! I didn't want to do it again, since the laces cost me quite a lot of time.

Awful, right? You can hardly read 'Chuck Taylor' and 'All Star' on my ring finger and pinky. My left hand was even more of a failure. I damaged my index finger three times, and kept polishing over it. How dumb. I ended up doing five coats of a one-coat polish, so you can image how that looked like. If I'd posted my left hand, too, you'd get a heart attack, and die immediately when I tell you I wore this for 3 days, 'cause I did this the day before my testweek began and didn't had time to do a new mani. On day three, three or four fingers were completely polish-less, it had chipped so bad and peeled all off. Great.

So this one wasn't a success. I know, I should've just worn this for one day because I put so much effort in it, and then take it off, but I don't know what I was thinking. Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you. Ever had any nail art horror stories yourself?

P.S. I organised all my polishes to color instead of brand. Now, it's much easier to see from what color I need more. For example, I have only 5 yellows and more than 30 blues. I also need a lot more of pastels, greens, and nudes! On this moment, right now, I have 145 polishes, and they all fit exactly in one drawer. I think I'm gonna make a spreadsheet of all of them. How do you organise your polishes?

China Glaze For Audrey

I know I'm probably one of the last polish addicts to own For Audrey. But still. It's so beautiful, and I think every polish blogger should have a post dedicated to this lovely!

I did my best capturing the true color, but it's hard! I compared it with a Tiffany's ad in Elle magazine, and it was almost exact. Sorry, no pic!

I love how I always get compliments when wearing For Audrey. Even though I think it's a perfect summer color, I love to wear this in winter, it cheers me up!

What's not to love? Application is perfect, two coats for full opacity. Am I the only one who considers this polish sacred?

So sorry for not posting these last few days. You probably don't wanna read all my ramblings, so let me just tell you that a really good friend of mine moved to Egypt(!), and at school things aren't going so well, either. Here we have the lovely Strawberry Fizz from Rimmel, which actually smells really good! Love the strawberry scent!

Three coats for full opacity. I really love this pink, it's so cute! Sorry for the awful cuticles and cleanup, I took these pictures a few weeks ago. My nails are quite a lot longer now, too. A few days ago I almost broke my pinkie! I glued it with nailglue, hope it will last :)

1. I hate my German classes at school. They're stupid, boring, I hate my teacher, and why do I need to speak German?? I'd rather learn how to speak Spanish!

2. My dad is from Greece, my mom is Dutch, so I'm half Greek, half Dutch. Every summer break I go to Greece to a small island near Athens, where we have our own little house, and my Greek family lives. (only, I can't speak greek! well, exept for the words hello, goodbye, goodmorning, how are you, etc....)

3. I hate rain. It ruins my hair and my clothes. Let me tell you, it rains a LOT here in the Netherlands!

4. Last year my friend had 20 nail polishes. I remember telling my mom, 'Ohmygosh, do you know how much nail polish she has? I can't believe it!'
Yeah. I still can't. Haha. (although I still have the same reaction with seeing collections of some of you, like Scandalously Polished or Scrangie. I really can't believe them!)

5. I want to go to New York soooo bad! I'd buy everything you could buy, I'd walk for hours in Central Park, I'd visit the Empire State building, I'd walk around with sunglasses pretenting I live there... Haha! I just love the city, don't you? (hence my blogname.)

6. My favorite tv shows are Gossip Girl, Glee (!!!), the Vampire Diaries, America's Next Top Model, The Hills, The City, etc. I really hate things like Jersey Shore, I mean, there's just no point.

7. Everyday when I see a new follower, I totally cheer up! I always check who they are, and if they have a blog, I check them out. I love all my followers! So proud!

Catrice Mirror Mirror

Okay, so I'm late with ALL Limited Editions! This one was from the Glamourama (or was it Glamourista?...) LE from Catrice, called Mirror Mirror.

This was 3 coats if I remember correctly, application wasn't dreamy, but not bad either. It's pretty, but not breathtaking. Little bit too streaky in my opinion. This was with topcoat, but it wasn't really shiny afterward! So is this a metallic finish?

I have 2 others from this collection from Catrice, shall I swatch them? What do you say: yay or nay?

Essence Nothing Else Metals!

I know I'm a little late with this lacquer, but here it finally is! Nothing Else Metals from Essence's Metallics collection. I only have 1 lacquer of this collection, 'cause I saw swatches of these and didn't think they were very interesting.

I held the little magnet in four different directions on my nails, as you can see from the patterns. The magnet that comes with this line isn't so good, I should've used another magnet... Sorry!
I read everywhere that you had to held the magnet as close as possible, so I did. I had to re-polish my nails five times because everytime the magnet touched the wet polish! I'm so stupid! That's my excuse for my awful cuticles and cleanup!

This was 2 coats, I think. Application wasn't so bad, either. I just don't know WHAT COLOR THIS IS? Sort of a greenish silver? I don't know! Help me out here please!

Amazing pink holo!

This beauty is from an unknown brand (to me), called Magnetic. I bought this lacquer at a nail art supply store, apparently the brand Magnetic is a Dutch one! I didn't even know :) It's a brand most professional nail artists use, it isn't for sale in normal shops. This one reminds me a LOT of OPI DS Elegance! I don't have Elegance, but looking around on the internet and comparing pictures I don't need it anymore :)

Look at the awesome pinkness! Amazing, no? I admit this polish could be more holo, to make it even prettier, but I still love this.

I totally love this polish! And I'm totally into pink again :) You won't believe me, but this was only one coat. I didn't use any topcoat to show you how this really looks like (in other words, I just forget to put it on!).

This polish was 4 euros, so 5 dollars. Not that bad for this lacquer, eh? I also bought a purple holo from this line, so stay tuned!

Cute cupcake design

A few days ago I had a sleepover at my friend's house, because her birthday was a while ago. I had a lot of fun, and everybody just loved this cute cupcake design I did!

The birthday girl had sent me a picture of a mani Deniz from Emerald Sparkled did, so all credit goes to her! :) Check out her cupcake mani here.

I used China Glaze Something Sweet and Rimmel Strawberry Fizz for base colors, and used the same for the design. For the white dots and cupcake, I used a white striper.
The big rhinestone is from bornprettystore.com, and the small bullions I picked up at a nail art supply. I'll show you everything I got soon, because I just love the holographic polishes I bought!

What do you think of this one? I think this is super cute!

2 new Essence and Catrice LE

From the Limited Editions Urban Baroque from Catrice and I love Berlin from Essence I picked up only 2 lacquers. Only two? Shame on me. I did went to a nail art supply, where I bought 2 holographic lacquers and more than 6 different sorts of rhinestones (some also holographic!). All together, it was kind of expensive. Take a look at the lacquers, tell me what you think!

Love This City. Nice pink creme, didn't have anything like this before. Bad, huh? Definitely a one-coater, but this was 2 coats.

Biscuits & Cupcakes. Sheer light pink with secret shimmers. Index one coat, middle two coats, ring three coats and pinkie four coats. I love this with my skintone!

Sorry for not swatching the whole collection, I didn't find anything interesting. The blues from Essence LE weren't original at all, and I think one sheer pink lacquer from Catrice LE is enough, I don't need all four! I don't regret I bought these two :)

Orly Fiesta

Hi guys! Today I have Orly Fiesta to show. As you maybe already know, I'm not really into pink polishes. Recently, I found some very cool nail art ideas on the internet with pink nail polish, and now I actually like them again! Yesterday I picked up 2 pink lacquers, one from Essence's I love Berlin collection, and one from Catrice's new collection Urban Baroque. I'll show them to you tomorrow!

I swatched this lacquer already a while ago, If I remember correctly this took me 2 coats. Application was fine, and drying time fast :)

Thursday I'm going with 2 friends to a nailart store, so I hope to find some rhinestones, bullions and fimocanes over there :) Also, my other friend is celebrating her birthday on thursday, and I'm going to do a special b-day mani (a pink one!), so stay tuned!

Rimmel Black Pearl

Hi! Wow, I really can't believe it's 2011 already! Because these last few months I almost didn't buy any nail polish, I went searching on the internet for my lemmings. Right now, all I want are polishes from the OMG collection, I haven't got a single polish of that one!

My first swatch of 2011 is Rimmel's Black Pearl. Firstly, I thought this could be a Chanel dupe, but how could I ever think that? Black Pearl from Rimmel is much older, I got this polish from my mom almost 2 years ago! Chanel must be pretty pathetic if they released a dupe of Rimmel's Black Pearl, but it's NOT a dupe :)

You can already see it in the pictures, I don't even need to see Chanel Black Pearl in real life to see it's not a dupe. Either way, I think this polish is very pretty, this took me two coats.
Application went really well, too.

What I especially like with this polish is the secret shimmer in it, it really comes to life in sunlight!

What do you think about black polishes? Personally I like black lacquers more if they have something like shimmer or glitters in them, or if they're matte.

New Years Eve Mani! pic heavy

It's the last day of 2010! Mygosh, days went by soooo fast! Did I like 2010? Hell yeah! I went a week to London on my birthday, I went to a Lady Gaga concert with my friends, I started a nail blog and became active in the whole polish-world... I won 2 giveaways, I got an awesome package from some fans of my blog, and I think of nail polish every day :)

A few months ago I only had around 20 nail lacquers, didn't know about OPI, Orly, or even China Glaze, and I wouldn't understand the words 'holographic' or 'duochrome' at all! Now, december 2010, I have almost 200 (!!!) followers, around the same amount of lacquers, and post almost every day on this blog, and also keep up with the latest news. Some people (including me, a while ago), think that having a blog is really simple. Well, it's not! You need to attract followers, keep up with the latest news, think of things to write about, take pictures, post almost everyday... I didn't know at first I needed so much time to put into this blog!

Well, enough rambling, I want to show you all my NYE manicure I just did :)

This is supposed to be fireworks. I don't think this mani is super successful, but I do like the glitters and rhinestones, it's very festive :)
As a base I used Scherer Chameleon Sky Blue, a beautiful duochrome, which I haven't swatched yet, but I did wear it. It's just really hard to capture the beautyness of this polish!

I added the fireworks with the nail art stripers from the set I got for Christmas and used the silver, silver holographic, blue glitter and purple glitter stipers :)

So yeah, that was my NYE mani from 2010! I know a lot of people do a post about their favorite polishes from this year, but I just can't tell which ones are my favorite. I think I would post more than half of my stash here :) At this moment, I don't have any lacquers which I really hate or dislike, because I have a very small stash.

In 2011, I hope to own a LOT more lacquers, swap for the first time (no, I haven't ever swapped before!), learn more about nail polish and different finishes (I'm kind of bad in that), and most importantly keep enjoying blogging, and have fun :)

I wanted to thank you all for supporting me, and I will keep supporting you! I wish you al a very happy new year, see you all in 2011!

P.S. My parents just announced we're maybe going to London again in May! I really hope we do, can't wait!

Leopard mani

Okay, I did not come up with this mani on my own, but I used this awesome tutorial Leanne made! Her version is probably a thousand times better than mine, but anyway. I still wanted to post this after my first swatches of Dusky Mauve yesterday.

I did this mani with my new nail polish stripers in black and white, and for the gold dots I used Urban Outfitters Chrome Gold. The stripers worked perfectly, I don't have any complaints about them! The only thing is that the polish is a little bit thick, but I find that very handy with nail art, but maybe that's just me!

When I got this box with christmas, my uncle and father wanted some nail art, too, check it out below :)

I did a bow on my dad's thumb, haha! It is ruined by my little sister who decided to put gold glitter over it :(

My uncle wanted an 'Egyptian eye', so that's what he got! He wanted me to add lashes (which are a total fail), to get the eye to 'really look at you', haha!

Then he wanted a 'manly french manicure', so I added some black tips (he wouldn't sit still!).
