"Chibi Art Class" by Yoai Book Review and Flip Through Video

I want to take a short break from "Serious Portraits Paintings". I want to paint something that is cute and quick. Since I love Japanese Manga and Anime, so I decided to paint some chibi characters. I did some research online and found Yoai's book, it has very good reviews and I love her style, so I ordered it on Amazon.

Here is what I think about this book:

This book covers materials, chibi basics, 17 step by step tutorials (includes girls, boys and beasties), inspired gallery etc. Yoai used different medias (watercolor, marker and color pencils) on the tutorials, so you can learn to color in different ways. Her instruction is very easy to follow. My 10 years old son enjoys this book as well.

I followed several of her tutorials, I did modify a bit, like I used watercolor and changed the colors.

Conclusion:

If you haven't heard of Paul Jackson, let me tell you a little bit about him. You have to look him up, and look at his artwork. He is very good at Painting Light Effect in Watercolor. I fell in love with his painting. Then I found out that he wrote a book about how to Paint Light Effects in watercolor, I knew I have to get it.

This book is great book for advanced beginner to experienced artist. It covers Basic Watercolor Painting Techniques, and then he talks about Elements of Light and Qualities of Light. And it includes 7 Step by Step Projects. From simple like glass and silverware to firewok (the cover) to Streetlights in the Fog.

I really enjoy reading this book, Paul Jackson explains everything clearly. After reading this book, I have understood about "Light". The best part of the books is the "Step by Step Projects". I can see how he painted and achieved all the effects. It helps me tremendously. This book is specific for Painting Light Effects, so if you want to learn about painting light effects in watercolor, you won't be disappointed.

DIY Watercolor Color Swatch Cards Tutorial with Waffle Flower Color Swatch Stamp

Watercolor Color Swatch Cards

I love making Color Swatch Cards, but I hate to draw the grids etc. Then I saw someone posted Color Swatch Card Stamp on Instagram. I knew I needed it!! So I did more research, I found that Waffle Flower has 2 Color Swatch Stamp Sets and a Color Wheel Stamp Set. I have been wanting to make Color Swatch Cards, so I ordered the Color Swatch Card Stamp Set.

The Stamp is about ATC size. It is 2"x3". It comes with 1 stamp in this set. They do have a Combo which includes Stamp and Dies.

This Swatch Card Stamp includes all the important info you need for your references.

1st Row: Masstone (it is basically the undiluted paint),

2nd Row: You will paint your color full strength till a little past the half point, then you will do the gradient. **I also did the "Stain Test" on this strip.

3rd Row: Name (Color Name), Brand

4th Row: G (Granulation), T (Transparency), S (Stain), LF (Lightfastness)

Last Row: Pigment Number.

Waffle Flower Color Swatch Stamp Set

I ordered the Stamp only. It is because I have a Sizzix Album Die which I bought several years ago, and I have never opened it. lol I know it would be perfect for this project. I love that it has 3 rings, so I can make it as a Color Swatch Book.

What do you need to make Watercolor Color Swatch Card?

Waffle Flower Color Swatch Stamp:

Paper:

I used Bee Paper 100% Cotton 140lbs. It is the first time I used their paper. So far, I really like it. The price is good, and I don't feel bad to use them as Color Swatch Cards. I can't wait to paint with it. It will be a great alternative for Arches Papers. And it will save me a lot of money.

Ink Pad:

StarzOn or any Permanent Ink Pad, make sure it is not Water based.

Stamp Block:

Any Acrylic Block will work.

But I used my DIY Stamp Positioning Tool.

Watercolor:

In this video, I used Daniel Smith Prima Tek Set

Brush:

I used Black Velvet Round Brush Size 6.

Conclusion:

I am highly recommend this stamp for anyone. I think Color Swatch Cards are essentially for painting. It comes with handy when you try to color match. Also, you learn so much more about your paints when you are painting the Swatch Cards. And I think their prices are very reasonable.

I am so excited to try out this Daniel Smith Mineral Watercolor Mixing Set after my friend showed me how she painted her dogs with this set. I love the textures and undertones.

This DS mineral watercolor mixing set comes with 6 tubes of watercolors (5ml):

- Rhodnite
- Jadeite
- Amethyst
- Mayan Blue
- Hematite
- Piemontite

It also comes with a bottle of Gound and a mixing sheet.

This set is great for mixing colors. Because their unique undertones and textures, when you mixed it with different colors, it gives you beautiful undertones. Like when I mixed Hermatite with Rhodonite, if I used more Hermatite, it will be blackish with pink undertone. If I used more Rhodonite than Hermatite, it will be Pink with Black undertone. You can see my mixing chart below.

These colors are very granulated. They are heavier in body and settle into the valleys of your paper leaving behind wonderful granulation and texture. So if you don't like granulation, this set is not for you. I usually don't really care about granulation, but with the unique undertones, I am in love with it. I can see that I will use them a lot for landscape paintings.

My favorite color is Amethyst. It has beautiful sparkling undertones. You can see it in this Unboxed Video. However, it looks a lot prettier in person.

In a conclusion, I think it is great set for anyone who wants to try out Daniel Smith Prima Tek Set. Because Prima Tek Set is a lot more expensive. This set is cheaper than Prima Tek Set. Also, for those looking for granulation and texture, you will definitely love it. However, if you just want to test out Daniel Smith, I will recommend to get their Primary Colors Set or Essential Introductory Set instead. So you can really test Daniel Smith out. Because this set is not the typical DS watercolors.

So I have been reading a lot of watercolor and illustration books. I just received this great Illustration Book called Inking Animals by Sova Huova. I want to do a book review for this book. Because I really like this book.

This book is great for anyone who are interested in Animals Illustration/ drawing or painting. Sova teach you how to paint animals with watercolor and ink. See the contents below.

She covers the basics of Inking, drawing and watercolor of animals. This book is perfect for beginners or even experienced artists. And she covers all kinds of animals, from woodland to domestics, birds, exotic and imaginary creatures. Each animal sections, she has several Step-by-Step tutorials. If you have done research on watercolor paints, you will be familiar with Sennelier. Sennelier is very popular in European Countries. A lot of watercolorists love Sennelier because of their Glazing and Layering Abilities.

Here is what I thought about Sennelier Watercolor Test Pack:

I have never tried tubes before, I only have experience with Liquid Watercolor (Dr Ph Martin's Hydrus Watercolor). I am really impressed with this set. When I mixed the color with water, it mixed very smooth, the color and water just melt together. I don't know how to explain! lol And the pigments are very strong. A little goes a long way.

Watercolor Banana Painting with Sennellier Watercolor Tester Pack

The banana image is from Yuko Nagayama's book "You Can Paint Vibrant Watercolors in Twelve Easy Lessons". I followed her instructions. I think it turns quite nice!! It is my first time to paint Fruit. I will do a book review next week. Her book is very good! Great info and I do learn a lot from her. I highly recommend her book.

Anyway, I used all 5 colors to paint this banana. In the book, she used Holbein and she used 7 colors. I just mixed my colors to match hers. The paints are dream to work with. When I mixed mistake, I have time to correct it, and it doesn't stain too bad like my Dr Ph Martin's Hyrdus.

The paints rewet easily, just a drop of water and it comes back life!! lol I think it is because they have HONEY in the paints. Also, it is great for Glazing and Layering. I understand why I hear a lot of good reviews.

Besides the Test Pack, Sennelier has different Tube Sets and Pan Sets.

Tube Sets: 8 Tubes Travel Set (which is super cute), 12 Tubes Set and 96 Tubes Set.
Pan Sets: Mini Set, Metal Case Sets and Travel Sets.
If you like Billy Showell's artwork, you may be interested in Sennellier Billy Showell Palatte. Her palette is beautiful!!

Conclusion:

In conclusion, I highly recommended this Sennelier L'Aquarelle Artists' Watercolors Test Pack. It is less than $13, and you get 5 tubes, it is less than $3 per tube. You can't beat the price. I personally didn't want to invest a huge chunk of money in a palette before I tried them out. So I am so glad that Sennellier offers Test Pack at such a low price. Daniel Smith and M Graham also offer Introductory Kits like that, but their prices are a lot more expensive and the tubes are smaller sizes.

This is the latest sewing pattern I am working right now, I always like retro styles especially the 60s and 70s styles. When I look at my girls Emily Bennett and Kit Kittredge, I know they would look stunning with the Retro Dresses. That's why I wanted to design retro dress. And I am RIGHT, they both look beautiful in the dresses.

I had this Hello Kitty Fabrics for years, I am so glad that I finally found something to sew with. This Hello Kitty fabrics are so cute, it makes a cute Retro Dress. BTW, I think Emily looks like a "Sales Representative" for my White 534 Serger. lol

American Girl Doll Kit Kittredge with my White 534 Serger

This version is a little different than the Hello Kitty dress, I didn't add the buttons on the front. Because I think it looks better without it. I got this cute fabrics at JoAnn. I like the 70s retro feel of the fabric, it is perfect for this sewing pattern

This pattern is for 18 inch Dolls such as American Girl Dolls, Our Generation Dolls (From Target), if you have a Journey Girl Dolls (from Toy R Us), it may be too big for them, since they have slimmer bodies than AG and OG dolls.

This PDF sewing patterns include 19 pages step-by-step instructions with full color photos. This pattern is easy to sew, perfect project for beginners.

My White 534 Serger is working!!

White 534 Serger

I bought this used White 534 Serger 7 years ago. My husband took them apart to clean, but he never put them back. So it sat in the box with all parts not attached for 7 years. Finally, I told him that for our 19 th Anniversary, I want him to restore my White 534 Serger as an anniversary gift. And I am glad that he did it! He finished it by our anniversary!! YEAH!! It is the best anniversary gift EVER!! lol

This is my first serger. I have never used a serger before, I have no idea how to use it properly. My hubby got me a serger book as another anniversary gift, it is called The complete Serger Handbook.

This is a great book for beginners. I learn so much from it, and I love the photos. They are clear, so I can compare my stitches easier, not like the serger manual, it is hard to read, because they are not "photo", they are drawings. Highly recommend this book if you are new to serger.

I haven't had a lot of time to play with it, but I am planning to make a Serger Cover with this little machine. I am very excited for my first serger project. And I can't wait to use it for my 18 inch doll clothes, my doll clothes are going to look much more professional.

Did you watch Sailor Moon when you were kids? If you did, you would love my handmade sailor moon outfits for Emily and Kit. Originally, I just wanted to make them a sailor dresses, because I think it would look cute on them. I didn't think about Sailor Moon at all. But when I posted the pics of them wearing the sailor dresses, everyone said "Sailor Moon".

I made Kit's dress first, I think her bow is way too big. So when I made Emily's dress, I made the bow smaller and I modified a bit. I really like how it turned out. They both look super cute in the Sailor Moon Outfit.

I really enjoy sewing doll clothes, it is fun! And it takes a lot less time to finish the projects, not like sewing for kids and adults. Plus, I can use all my scrap fabrics. Like these sailor moon outfit, I use less than 1/4 yard (each color) for 1 dress.

I haven't sewed for a long time. Since I have 2 cute little dolls Emily (American Girl) and Lilian (hearts for hearts girls), I want to handmade some cute outfits for them. Joann Fabrics had a sale on Simplicity Sewing Patterns, so I picked up 2 patterns - D0677 (as pic above) and D0680.

Simplicity Sewing Pattern D0677 Review:

- I think this pattern is a great value, there are 4 outfits and a bag patterns, included 2 tank tops, 3/4 sleeves top (the one I sewed), 1 pants, 1 shorts, 1 skirt (the pic below) and a dress.

- I love the style, it is very simple but trendy. Not boring old fashion doll clothes. They are like "real" fashion that I would wear every day.

- I sewed Top B and Skirt G (see more pics below)

- They are fairly easy to sew. But there are some tricky parts. Like the top you will need knit fabrics like interlock, jersey etc. Sewing stretchy fabrics is a little bit more difficult than non-stretchy fabrics. And you will need to sew "bias tape" in curve. These 2 parts could be a little bit difficult for beginners. Therefore, I would say that this pattern is for advanced beginners.

- About the fit, I would say it is "slim fit" style. (See Pics). Especially on the waist, it is tight fit. If you have an older AG dolls, you may need to modify a little bit.

My Newest Craft Obession - American Girl Dolls and Hearts for Hearts Girls Dolls


Emily (from American Girl Doll) and Lilian (from Hearts for Hearts Girls)

Yes, I am into the Doll World now!! It is my newest Craft Obession. I always like to sew girl clothes, but I have a boy, and boy sewing patterns are boring. lol Then one day I saw some beautiful dolls images on Instagram. I started to fall in love with dolls. I did a lot of research, I found out 18-inch dolls such as American Girl Dolls, Our Generations Dolls, Journey Girls Dolls are the most popular and common in the Doll Market. And I saw there are so many sewing patterns on Etsy and the BIG Pattern companies like Simplicity, McCall's and Butterick.

I decided to get myself a 18-inch doll, and I also found the dolls from Hearts for Hearts (h4h) are so beautiful, even though there are not too many sewing patterns for them. But I can't help to get myself a h4h doll.

My search for Emily:

During the search for 18-inch doll, first I didn't want to get a American Girl Doll (AG), coz it is too expensive. I was planning to get a Journey Girls (from Toy R Us). Journey Girls are around $30. And AG is around $115. But I found out that Journey Girls and AG are different body shape which mean most the sewing patterns won't fit them. Therefore, it left me no choice to get a AG doll.

American Girl Doll Retired Historical Doll - Emily Bennet

I went to AG website, I was lost, there are so many choices. I don't know what to get. Then I read more and more. I know that I would want a Historical Doll, I just like the way they look and dressed, also the beautiful stories behind them.

I looked at millions pictures online. I was down to Emily (the pic above), Kit and Felicity. I like them all. But I was more draw to Emily. And I made a decision, Emily would be my first AG doll (you heard it right, I plan to get 1 or 2 more in future) I checked Ebay, I found that there are a lot of listing for Emily.

I found my Emily on Ebay, it was $60, the seller claimed the doll in good condition. But once I received it, it is not. So $60, I think it is over-priced. I am not really happy with the seller, I messaged about that, he didn't mention anything about the big scratches on her nose and cheek, marks on her legs. It has been 3 days, I still haven't heard from the seller. :(

My Search for Lilan:

Hearts for Hearts Girl Retired Doll - Lilan

I also found Lilian on Ebay. I originally plan to get Bell. But I saw Lilian, I really love her blue eyes and her clothes. But she is retired doll, h4h didn't make her anymore. She is kind of rare, it is hard to find. I found only few eBay listings for her. I was lucky to get for a little over $20 (include shipping). She comes with a pants for 18-inch dolls and no shoes. So I sewed her a shorts and a pair of red shoes real quick. The new shorts and shoes look good on her, don't you think so?

DIY Shimmering Ink For Copperplate Calligraphy/ Modern Calligraphy

I love Shimmering Ink for my Copperplate Calligraphy practice. Dr Ph Martin's offers a large selection of Iridescent Calligraphy Inks. But it can be pricey if you want to try all the colors. That's why I love to mix my own Shimmering Ink.

Here is my DIY Shimmering Ink recipe:

You will need:

Dr Ph Martin's Iridescent Silver Ink

Dr Ph Martin's Hydrus Watercolor Set

(Dr Ph Martin's Radiant Watercolor will work, or you can use your own watercolor set)

How to:

I usually use ratio 6:1 or 3:1 (Silver ink: watercolor)

then dip the watercolor brush in a water and then mix the ink together.

And now you get the beautiful Shimmering Ink!

Calligraphy Alternative for Finetec Gold watercolor Set - Kuretake Tambi Starry Colors Set

I love using gold ink for my calligraphy. I already have Dr Ph Martin's Iridescent Copperplate ink which I love. And I know a lot of calligraphers using Finetec Gold Watercolor Set. As crafty junkie, I always love to try new stuff. However, Finetec is out of my budget. Then I saw Kuretake Tambi Starry Color Set on Amazon, I decided to try them out. It is selling $12.97 right now (as today 3/28/17). I think i paid around $15 when I bought mine.

Good Alternative?

The answer is Yes!

I love it. The colors are beautiful. It writes beautifully. The ink flows well, I am able to get my hairline. And they are very shimmering, you can see the video below. I haven't tried Finetec, so I can't really compare to. But if you are in budget like me, I definitely will try them out.

I am new to Modern Calligraphy, I just started about 3 months ago. I have been really enjoying my new hobby! It really therapeutic and calming! It is a good way to relax before I go to bed. I love to practice my drills right before I go to bed. I think I sleep better after the practice! lol

I am not a "Gold" or "Blink Blink" type girl, but for calligraphy, I love how my letters in gold. I heard a lot of good and bad reviews about Dr Ph Martin's Iridescent Copperplate Gold Ink. So I decided to get a bottle and tried it by myself.

My Experience:

The Good:

First of all, I love the color! It is very vibrant! It is real Gold, not yellowish! It is kind of sparkling! And I love the texture, after the ink dried, I love to feel my writing! lol

Secondly, it dries super fast! And the color doesn't change much after it dried up! It stays as same as it is wet.

Thirdly, the price is pretty reasonable. It is about $10 per bottle. I have been writing a lot with this ink, I used less than 1/4 bottle. I think this bottle will last me for a long time.

The Bad:

I have a hard time to get the ink flow right with my Nikko G nib, but it works perfectly with my Zebra G nib and Tachikawa G nib. Also, I noticed that if the weather is cold, I would have the ink flow issue. So you will have to play around with different nibs to find the sweet spot.

It is the only bad about this ink. I highly recommended Dr Ph Martin's Iridescent Copper Plate Gold to all calligraphers.

(I love this nib as well, it is also more flexible than Nikko G, Zebra is slightly more flexible than this Tachikawa nib. And this nib holds more ink than Zebra G and Nikko G, so you don't need to dip your pen as often)

I can't believe that this Thursday will be Thanksgiving! This year just flies by! I have so much fun making these Thanksgiving Cards for my November Card Swap Buddy. These two are so simple but elegant!

Design One:

Handmade Thanksgiving Card with Grateful Hearts Stamp Set

I used Fun Stampers Journey Grateful Hearts Stamp Set AT-0159, then I colored the berries with MozArt Brush Pen Set. By the way, I love the MozArt Brush Pen Set, I will probably write a review after Thanksgiving. I wrapped the card with some fingerweight yarn. Then I added my handmade felt bow that I made it with Fun Stampers Journey Mini Bow Die. At last, I splashed some of Fun Stampers Journey Silver Silk for the ink splash effect. This card takes less than 30 mins to make.

Design Two:

I love heat embossing, so the 2nd card, I used Gold Embossing Powder for the Stamp Image. This card looks a lot prettier in person! I really don't like the Gold Embossing Powder (Recollection from Michael's) I have, it doesn't adhesive on the card too well, I will have to try different brand.

I am so excited to receive my Fun Stampers Journey Traveler's Planner/ Traveler's Notebook Planner (aka Bronze Traveler). I originally wanted to order Midori Traveler's Notebook Planner, I like that I can add different refill notebooks. However, I don't like that it doesn't have any compartment, you have to buy their zip pocket or business card holders.

Then I found out that Fun Stampers Journey Traveler's Planner, and it is made by Webster's Pages, I know that the quality will be superior! And there are compartment for things. And the color is beautiful BRONZE! Also, I love the price! lol FSJ Traveler's Planner is only $31.95, but the Midori Traveler's Notebook Planner is a lot more expensive, depends on which website do you order, it is from $38 to $60.

I definitely love Midori refills, it is a very good quality paper, I can write with my favourite Pilot Petit 1 Fountain Pen, no bleeding. If you love writing with Fountain Pens, you would love Midori Refills.

I am so excited that Fun Stampers Journey September bloom box! Because it has a cute little hedgehog stamp!! Love Love Love this Hedgehog stamp. It is super cute. I think it looks exactly like Mui Mui (My baby Hedgehog girl).

The instruction comes with the kit is super easy to follow, I finished this card less than 40 mins. I didn't have the reinker, so I used "watercolor" for the background. And I also used watercolor for coloring the hedgehogs.

When I first saw the this cute animal stamp set (Creature Comfort - SS-0308) on Fun Stampers Journey catelog, I know I have to get this set. Coz this set include Fox, Raccoon, Beaver, Squirrel and Bunny. It is my backyard! lol I have all these animals in my backyard, they come to visit us every day.

This stamp set also has a matching die set. So it is pretty cool, you don't need to cut by sciossors.

How to make this card:

For Background:

I colored it with PanPanstels (Party Pop Set) by Fun Stampers Journey. I tried to achieve the sunset, so I colored it with Skyblue for the sky, and blend it with White. On the bottom of 1/3 the card, I colored it with Orange, and then blended it to middle of the card. I was surprised that how easy to use PanPanstels for the background. I am in love the result! It is beautiful!

For Fox and Raccoon:

I colored them with Reeves Watercolor Set from AC Moore.

For the Grass:

I used the grass die from Darice. I got it from AC Moore.

For the Leaf and the Sentimental Prints:

I stamped the leaf and sentimental prints on my old stash cardstocks.

I really enjoy making this card, I am able to try new medium (PanPastels) and my favorite stamp set (Creature Comforts). And this card is fairly easy to make, it took over an hour to make. But I will probably can make it within an hour next time.

I have so much fun to make these Pan Pastels Poppy Days Birthday Cards/ Best Wishes Cards. I really love Layered Stamp Set, this beautiful layered stamp set called Poppy Days (SS-0346) from Fun Stampers Journey. It comes with 2 different Poppy Flowers shapes. And you can get very creative with this stamp sets. I spent one whole evening to try out all my ink pads (most of the ink pads are Memento, few are from Fun Stampers Journey), here is my ink pad combinations:

For the background, I used the light blue PanPastels Party Pop from Fun Stampers Journey, there are several PanPastels, but I like this set the best, because all the colors are primary colors, I know I will need these colors a lot. And this set also comes with the "5 pieces Tool Set" which is awesome. This is the first time I use PanPastels, it is a lot easier to color that I thought, very easy to blend, the best part is that you can erase any mistake you made by regular eraser.

For the poppy flowers, I used Momento Angel Pink and Rose Bud Ink Pads.

For the Bow, I used Mini Bow Die (DI-0103) from Fun Stampers Journey.

For "Best Wishes", I used the Sentimental Print Die from Spellbinders. And I stamped it with Brilliant Silver Ink Pad.

For the blue boarder, I used die from Spellbinders, but I forgot the name for it, I got it long time ago.

For the splash effect, I used Silver Silk from Fun Stampers Journey.

I Love Love my latest Card Creation!! It is my first try to use Watercolor! I am very impressed how my card turns out. It is simple, but beautiful! :)

Watercolor Background:

For the watercolor background, I used Wet on Wet technique. I first wet the whole watercolor paper, then I painted Blue on the top and held the paper up and let the watercolor drip till 1/3 of the paper. Then I painted Red on the bottom, did the same thing, let it drip. For the center part, I painted it Yellow, I let it drip to the Top (Blue side), when the Yellow meets Blue, I turned it upside down, so it started to drip to the "Red Side".

The watercolor I used is Reeves Watercolor Tin Set and Niji Pearlescent Watercolor Set, I bought them last weekend at AC Moore. The Reeves Watercolor set is only $3, gotta love clearance. And the Niji Pearlescent Set is less than $3.50 after coupon.

The Red and Yellow are from Reeves Watercolor Set, the Blue is from Niji Pearlescent Set. I am new to Watercolor, I have never tried "High End" brands. So I can't compare with the other brands. But so far, I really love both sets. Especially Reeves Watercolor, it is easy to blend, and the color is very vibrant. The Niji Pearlescent Set is more "Pastel" color, very light with hint of metallic. Both sets are great value and quality, consider they are less than $4 each.

For Background (Geo Burst Die Background):

After the watercolor background dried up, I glue the Geo Burst Piece on top of it. I love the Fun Stampers Journey Geo Burst Die (DI-0217), it is a perfect die to make simple elegant cards. You can easily make 5-6 cards in an hour with this die.

For Bow:

For the bow, I used Fun Stampers Journey Mini Bow Die (DI-0103). After I made the bow, I inked it with Tsukineko Brilliance Pigment Inkpad (silver). And then I glued a "gem" which I bought a big container from Hobby Lobby.

For Sentimental Print "Thank You So Much":

For the Sentimental Print "Thank You So Much", I used my FREE Thank You So Much Stamp Set (AT-0213), (Yes, you heard it right, it is FREE Stamp. For every $50 order, Fun Stampers Journey gives you a FREE Product, it can be stamp, die cut, embellishment of your choice. I first used my Fun Stampers Journey Circle Die Set (DI-0039) to cut 2 circles. The bigger one I cut it with Sparkle Silver Cardstock, and the smaller circle with regular cardstock.

Before I stamped Thank You So Much Stamp with Versamark Ink Pad, I prepped the cardstock with EK Tools Powder Tool. Then I applied Gold Embossing Powder and used Heat Tool.

After that, I glued the Thank You So Much circle on the Silver Circle with Foam Square.

Lastly, I glued the Thank You So Much on the background, and embellished with the bow. And the final step is glued the whole thing onto the A2 size card.

I love love my new stamp set from Fun Stampers Journey Beautiful Wings Stamp Set (SS-0353). It is my first layer stamp set. I have so much fun playing with it. I played with all my ink pads and created different color combinations.

Butterfly Thank You Card

How to create 3 color butterfly?

I first stamped the "outline stamp" with black ink on the white cardstock. Then I used 3 different colors for my base stamp. I ink the bottom with Blue ink pad, then Pink ink pad on the middle part and the yellow on the top. I let the ink overlapped a little to create gradient. After the stamp is inked, I stamped it over the "outline" I did before.

Layer Butterfly Stamp Thank You Card

For Background:

I used blue/ pink cardstock as a background. Then I stamped over with the "Base" and "Outline" butterfly stamp with my favourite white ink pad (Fun Stampers Journey Whip Cream Ink Pad).
Tips: I stamped it twice before I re-ink the stamp again, because I like the softer look of the "2nd generation" of the stamp.

For the white circle:

I die cut it with Fun Stampers Journey Circle Die Set (DI-0039), I really love the Circle Die Set from Fun Stampers Journey, because it comes with the "Piercing Dies". Most circle dies from the other companies don't come with piercing dies. After I cut it out, I used Piercing Die to create all the little holes around the circle. Then I used Tim Holtz Air Spritzer for the "Paint Splat" effect.

For the middle circle:

I just die cut with the Journey Circle Die (DI-0039), then stamped over with the Beautiful Wings Butterfly stamp with white ink.

Finishing up:

I used "Thank You" Stamp from Fun Stampers Journey "Sentimental Prints" SS-0072. Happy Birthday stamp will work too, but I am in need of Thank You Cards, so I used Thank You.

Lastly, I decorated with some sequins.

It is super fun card to make, you can be very creative with different color ink pads.

I received this Fun Stampers Journey "Sentimental Prints" stamp set from my Blooming Platinum Starter Kit (Journey Coach Starter Kit). This is one of the 3 stamp sets I got. I chose "Sentimental Prints", because I always need Thank You Cards for my boudoir clients (Yes, I am a full time Boudoir Photography, check out my gallery Osbrink Photography )

I found an inspiration on google search, I only changed a little, I like the way the person made, therefore I didn't change much. I like how simplicity of these Thank You Card. And they are super easy to make, I make all 4 cards less than an hour.

Finally I had time to start the Fun Stampers Journey July Bloom Box project, I chose "Dream Big" as my first project. The instruction is very easy to follow, I think I finished this card in an hour. It probably takes less time if I wasn't taking pics for the tutorial.

Here is the tutorial:

Step 1:

Supplies from July Bloom Box (Dream Big Card)

Step 2: Stamp the Dream Catcher Stamp to the center

Stamp the Dream Catcher to the center.

Step 3: Stamp over the whole cardstock

Step 4: Stamp "Dream Big" onto the Rectangle Banner

Stamp "Dream Big" on the Rectangle Banner

Step 5: Sponge the edge of the feathers with Oatmeal Cookie Ink Pad (I don't have this color, so I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad in Tea Tie)

Sponge the edge of the feathers with Oatmeal Cookie Ink Pad

Step 6: Lay the feather ends together and fold the Silver Twinkle Trim in half and lay on top. Tie the natural Journey Thread several times around the ends of the feathers and tie in a knot capturing the Silver Twinkle Trim inside the bow, adhere with Craft Glue.

Step 7: Adhere the Whip Cream Panel onto the River Stone Card Base

Fun Stampers Journey Platinum Die Cut Machine

This is an awesome machine, it comes with magnetic platform, cutting plates, embossing plate and 1 rubber mat. The working area is 8.5", it is a lot bigger than Sizzix Big Shot. And all my Sizzix and Spellbinders Dies are compatible with FSJ Platinum Die Cut Machine. So I can still use my favorite dies with it. So far I am in love with Platinum, it works smoothly and feels more sturdy than Big Shot. It is a lot heavier than Big Shot, so it is not as portable as Big Shot. But I don't travel with it, so it works fine for me.

Conclusion:

I have played with all the stamps, ink pad, die set and the Platinum. So far I am very happy with my purchase. I think it is a "Super Deal". DIY Watercolor Color Swatch Cards Tutorial with Waffle Flower Color Swatch Stamp

The Stamp is about ATC size. It is 2"x3". It comes with 1 stamp in this set. They do have a Combo which includes Stamp and Dies.

This Swatch Card Stamp includes all the important info you need for your references.

1st Row: Masstone (it is basically the undiluted paint),

2nd Row: You will paint your color full strength till a little past the half point, then you will do the gradient. **I also did the "Stain Test" on this strip.

3rd Row: Name (Color Name), Brand

4th Row: G (Granulation), T (Transparency), S (Stain), LF (Lightfastness)

Last Row: Pigment Number.

I ordered the Stamp only. It is because I have a Sizzix Album Die which I bought several years ago, and I have never opened it. lol I know it would be perfect for this project. I love that it has 3 rings, so I can make it as a Color Swatch Book.

What do you need to make Watercolor Color Swatch Card?

Waffle Flower Color Swatch Stamp:Color Swatch Card Stamp

Color Swatch 5x7 Stamp Set

Paper:

I used Bee Paper 100% Cotton 140lbs. It is the first time I used their paper. So far, I really like it. The price is good, and I don't feel bad to use them as Color Swatch Cards. I can't wait to paint with it. It will be a great alternative for Arches Papers. And it will save me a lot of money.

Ink Pad:

StarzOn or any Permanent Ink Pad, make sure it is not Water based.

Stamp Block:

Any Acrylic Block will work.

But I used my DIY Stamp Positioning Tool.

Watercolor:

In this video, I used Daniel Smith Prima Tek Set

Brush:

I used Black Velvet Round Brush Size 6.

Conclusion:

I am highly recommend this stamp for anyone. I think Color Swatch Cards are essentially for painting. It comes with handy when you try to color match. Also, you learn so much more about your paints when you are painting the Swatch Cards. And I think their prices are very reasonable.
