When I woke up this morning, it was really obvious I was dreading this whole routine already. Waking up so damn early in the freaking cold morning, bathing and dressing myself up, leave the house on time so that I can catch the bus, reach workplace and start the jail-like 8hours, after which I am left with only a few hours each day to my social life (not forgetting I am a part time undergraduate!).

Yes, I am so sick of all these.

That's why I am so certain now I want to break out from this routine. If I do not start doing something for myself now, I am going to continue living a life I dread, the one which I only work for money unhappily.

This year is the year I am going to fulfil what I have promised myself last year. It is not just a dream or passion anymore.

It's my life :)

I'm glad I'm finally doing something for my passion now. I procrastinate a lot, and take too long to take action most of the time.

Now I am waiting for my parcel to arrive so I can get my hands and creativity on them.

I have so many things to do in mind right now that I cannot wait to complete my studies soonest! At the baseline, I still believe in having solid mastery skills than empty educational qualifications :)

I took the leap of faith, decided to take up the challenge, and knew that I probably could learn new things.

With a heavy heart, I now understand that it isn't easy. I have had many plans ahead to this role, and many ideas on how I can help the people. But still, there are too many limitations.

Perhaps, I am not good enough.

Sometimes, it might be better to stick around with what you are most familiar with, because the reason you are good at something is the talent and personality to begin with. I am too rigid for a roller coaster ride...

I am now more convinced than anything else, that the only person who can groom you to what you wanna be, is yourself. I used to think that if I am lucky enough to meet this person who will lend me a hand to climb up to my desired heights, I will be able to achieve my dreams.

This is my first post of the year, and I'm not quite sure when will the next be. I have new plans for my life now and I am going to very busy for a long time. I might not be able to update as often as last year, and I don't even know where will all these plans lead me to. It's just going to be a long route ahead.

Thanks to so many people who entered my life, helped me, listened to me, taught me new things, cared for me and befriended me. Although we may not be in contact anymore, and perhaps none of you are reading this, I still want to express my appreciation and thanks to everyone. And to those who stayed, you guys are AWESOME!! :D

And finally, a message to my guy:
I'm going to be very busy after I take up this new role, and I'm not sure if we are going to have a lot of time together after that. But please know that no matter how busy I will be, I will never stop loving you. (Damn, why do I feel like crying now? -sniff sniff- ) And also... hold on tight to me please. ILY.

I'm thankful for the opportunity given to me. It definitely will mark a new beginning for me although what's ahead seems tough. I must tell myself that I CAN DO IT !! :)

I'm thankful to my boyfriend who is always there for me and helping me sort out my messy thoughts all the time. Simply put, for everything he is :)

I'm thankful that in 2011 I had fulfilled a major teenage dream, I learnt a hell lot of things from great people and broken relationships, I finally decided to get back to school, and then meeting him.

The new year ahead is going to be damn good, I know. And for those people who had still stayed with me while I was down and out, you deserve something from me.

Kuala Lumpur (24 - 26 December) - Part I

I'm finally back from the road trip. It was a fruitful trip with lots of fun and laughter. First of all, I must thank my guy for bringing me there; this was my first road trip, as well as my first time to KL. Secondly, I would like to thank Imran and Farhana for being such fun-loving travel mates. The trip would not be so amazing without all these people :)

Remember our pact to visit KL on 24 December 2012 again!

We didn't take a lot of pictures from KL simply because this city is very much like Singapore. Hence I am only going to recommend some nice places to visit if you have not been to KL before.

The shopping malls of Sungei Wang, Bukit Bintang and Times Square. They have lots of food and trendy apparels which are really cheap (as compared to Singapore), and we literally shopped our hearts out. Because I didn't bring much money there, I didn't get to shop a lot. And I totally regret that. Please bring more money when you are visiting these malls so you will not regret when you return.

The Dark Cave (Batu Caves). This is a must visit place in KL. Other than the 272-steps long stairs to the Hindu temples up in the mountains, there is this bat cave which you cannot miss. With only RM35, they provide an educational tour for each adult into the bat caves, and inside this dark cave there are so many things we probably cannot see in other parts of the world outside the cave. Initially Farhana and I were reluctant to enter the cave because it looked so scary from the outside. But after the 45 minutes tour, both of us wanted more! This trip would not be complete without this visit to the Cave.

A side note: While climbing up the 272 steps of stairs, please take a few rests in between. I wanted to challenge myself hence climbed the stairs all the way up to the mountain top without resting. The good thing: I am fxcking proud of myself. The bad thing: I fainted when the other three reached 10 minutes later...

Petronas Twin Towers. This famous tourist hotspot needs no description. Just visit there for the more high-end shopping and take a look of the structure from the outside. It's totally gorgeous at night.

Petaling Street ("Jalan Petaling") was one of our itinerary, and most internet reviews recommend a visit at night. We went in the afternoon, and finally understood why. The place was not sheltered, and it was super scorching. I personally think that there wasn't much from Petaling Street that excites me because most shops sell replicas of branded bags and wallets. We tried their Black Hokkien Mee, and it wasn't as good as I expected. I bought one wallet for myself though.

Some other experiences: taking the LRT and monorail, having A&W meals, and staying in Hilton Hotel :)

Psychology of Fashion:

Like most city girls, I grew up learning to observe what people around me wear, how people wear and when to wear the different types of styles. We wait for the next issue of our favourite fashion magazines so we can keep track of the latest trends; we go shopping when we are either happy or sad so we can become happier; we people-watch and start gossiping with our besties how outdated/ off-style/ mis-matched someone dressed, and then secretly feel glad about it.

We are not talking about people who professionally deals with fashion. I am referring to common city dwellers like you and I who have nothing much to contribute to the industry except for following trends and spending money on clothes and all.

From the evolutionary perspective, I think it has to do with breeding good offsprings. Appearance plays a huge part in initial physical attraction between the genders; so while women are attracted to resourceful men, men are attracted to beautiful women. By becoming more visually appealing, women increase their chances to get a men in their hands, and the chances of breeding success. As the different eras progress, fashion has become not only the interest of women, but also of the men.

But, could fashion be that simple? If it is that simple, why do fashion keep evolving?

From the social perspective of psychology, fashion could make more sense. The main concepts of social psychology are mastery of the world and connectedness with people. In order to gain mastery, people constantly want to be in the know. To ensure they know what is going on in the world currently, people keep track of fashion trends, just as it is for the music culture, current affairs, political and finance etc. And in order to feel connected to friends and other in-group members, people are motivated to behave similarly - which goes the same for fashion sense. We often see people in a physical group wearing almost the same, because fashion is one factor which makes them bond together.

Human beings simply want to belong and be accepted in the society. What sets people different from one another under the same fashion trends, is probably individual tastes and styles.

Fashion also helps us express who we are. A study showed that people who dressed more formally use more formal language to describe themselves, whereas casually dressed people use more informal langauge (Hanover & Kuhnen, 2006). Clothing also enhances people's self-perception in many attributes, for example responsibility, competency, professionalism, honesty, reliability, intelligence, trustworthiness, willingness to work hard and efficiency (Kwon, 1994). What we wear has already slowly become our identities. Little wonder we often judge people on how they wear under different occasions.

Fashion differs from culture to culture, era to era. But what will always continue, is the competition among women to fight for the most resourceful men by being the most beautiful women through wearing the right clothes; as well as the evolution of fashion to constantly meet the needs of individuals who seek to be different.

And I probably will continue to be a victim of city fashion, because it has become a part of my identity which I have nothing to feel ashame of :)
