Nancy Drew Online

Good bye!

2015-06-08T05:10:00.001-07:00

Hey everyone!
I've decided it's probably best for me to just not have to worry about posting on this blog anymore. This summer might get busy for me and I don't want to make any promises, so I've decided to stop. :(

I will still be participating in the HeR Message Boards and my forums.

Thanks for reading, have a great summer!

Nancy Drew Online is BACK!

2015-02-25T10:25:00.002-08:00

Hello, all! Trey here! So my last post on here was over a year ago! Wow, how time flies!

So a lot has happened in the past year in the Nancy Drewniverse!
One, SPY came out! That was exciting, but honestly I wasn't a huge fan. It was alright but not amazing.
MED and LIE came out! I wasn't a fan of MED, but LIE was much better!
Lani Minella (Nancy's voice actor) got fired. Honestly I don't know why HeR would do that. I'm still upset about it. I'm still planning on buying after that (I want to give the new voice actor a shot) but my excitement level for game #33 is definitely decreased.
Also SEA aka Sea of Darkness (I always want to write Ship of Shadows because that was supposed to be the newest Dossier game but it got shelved.) got announced. This one will be Lani's last game.
I'm planning on writing once a week, every Wednesday or Friday. Don't get mad at me if I don't post on some weeks, I'll try and post as often as I can!

I'm kind of revamping this blog so here is what I'll be talking about:
Nancy Drew (obviously)
The new books and games and what is happening with all that.
The Her Interactive Message Boards!
Message Board updates like: New Alternate Endings, Milestones on threads and much much more!
Roomers! Lots and lots of roomers!
I also might make some reading updates.

I hope you all enjoy! If you have any questions let me know!

Curse of the Arctic Star -- Review

2013-07-08T12:16:00.000-07:00

I recently finished reading the Curse of the Arctic Star the first edition to the Nancy Drew Diaries series. Please feel free to leave a comment of what you thought of the book. I will be reviewing the second book soon, I just have to get my hands on it. Also, I just posted a few new boards on the forums check it out HERE! Anywho, lets get into the review!

Plotline - : | : -
There is lots of excitement, including Nancy almost getting killed, and a nasty surprise in the desserts. This is just the tip of the ice burg, in almost every chapter something exciting happens!
Lots of suspicions are being thrown around including something about an eight-year-old boy being the culprit! I guess you'll have to find out if that suspicion is correct or not by buying the book on Amazon or the new edition to the Her Interactive website: Her Interactive

Nancy, George, Bess and Bess's newly acquired boyfriend Allen hop on a cruse because Nancy's old friend Becca -- an assistant on a new cruse liner called the Arctic Star -- Becca has been receiving threatening emails. Soon after their arrival "accidents" and "pranks" have been accruing; but Nancy's not so sure that all that has been going on are just accidents or childish pranks, she thinks something more sinister is going on. While Allen knows Nancy's hobby of sleuthing he is completely in the dark about the real reason why they are on the cruse, which is understandable because he is kind of a blabbermouth, and the girls don't want there cover to be blown. Often times Nancy, George or Bess sends him to get a drink or run errands for them so they can discuss the case by them selves, and still Allen is in the dark about everything.

Characters - : | : -
Nancy Drew: Obviously Nancy is one of the main characters. (~_^)

George Fayne: A tomboy, and also very techie.

Bess Marvin: Although George and she are cousins she acts nothing like George. She is girly and loves shopping.

Allen: (Someone help me with his last name) He is Bess's new boyfriend and basically bows at her feet, he does almost anything for her and her friends. He is also a life guard.

Fred: A mysterious man who seems to be lurking around the halls an awful lot. He also always wears a Hawaiian tee shirt.

Max: A butler who will do anything for Nancy and her friends sense they are staying in the suit he is assigned

Tobias: An eight-year-old kid who does not want to be on a cruse and has no hesitations to say so.

Lacy: A newlywed, on the cruse for her honeymoon.

Vince: Lacy's husband. He and his wife are both convinced the cruse is cursed.

The ABC's: Three older ladies who often cruse.

Wendy: A travel blogger who is always on her computer or digging up some dirt to write about.

Written - : | : -

This book is written in first person, supposed to be Nancy's diary. It is actually fairly well written for first person. I am not too into that, because lots of times it isn't written well; but this is actually better then I thought it would be. I did feel that in some chapters it was dragged out and others were written as if the writer was on a page limit (which they probably somewhat were). But over all it was written well, I am no critic and I couldn't write any better so: Bravo, writer! You did a good job.

Overall - : | : -

This book was explained mostly, but the end was a bit rushed and it also didn't explain a few things saying something like "not every mystery was solved, but that's okay" Which from my point of view was totally not. I am still yet to read the next book, so I don't know how that will be explained or if at all. But over all, I give this book a 7.5/10.

My Nancy Drew Testimonial

2013-07-01T08:50:00.003-07:00

Hey everyone! I know I promised you my testimonial last Friday but things got a little hectic around my house! Anyways, here it is:

When I was very young my sister loved Nancy Drew. One day I went to the library and decided to see if I would like the books, sure enough I did. But at such a young age it took about three weeks of reading every day to finish the book! So then I stopped reading the books.
Then one year for Christmas my sister got Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon She played it, until she got stuck and let me play. My sister played with my oldest brother and I would play with my other sister and brother. (Yes that makes five) So we got stuck at the same puzzle, and we quit.
About two years later my aunt and uncle bought my oldest sister the first five games. She started with Treasure in a Royal Tower and thanks to the internet we were able to finish. We stayed in the same group (Two oldest and the three youngest) and us three youngsters played after my two oldest siblings. We soon finished TRT and (Lets call my two oldest siblings team 1 and the three youngest team 2 ~_^) team 1 started MHM!
MHM was super scary! Team 2 didn't even attempt! And soon after we had played about eight of the games.
We would always wait for christmas to see what new Nancy Drew game my sister would get and play it. We had a rule that team 2 couldn't play because we would play further then team 1 and tell them what to do! LOL!
Soon for my birthday I got ICE! It was my first game, and we had so much trouble with it! We first got stuck on cooking, then we just went down hill from there; and about a year later we picked the game back up and finally completed it!
Ever since I have been collecting the games and books!

I hope you guys enjoyed reading my testimonial!
See ya soon!

New Look + Summer Challange

2013-06-19T08:43:00.003-07:00

Hey everyone! Last night I started designing my blog, I hope you like it! I'm also going to be working on the format and such. If you have any suggestions leave them in a comment below, email me at: contactndo@yahoo.com or tweet me at @treyschnarr for your suggestions.

I am also going to be holding a challenge, mind you it is not a contest, but I would like our summers to be more then playing video games (But we must make a exception to ND ( : ) So lets read some ND books this summer! It is not a race at all, nor is it a contest to read the most books. Let's enjoy reading a few books.

On Friday I will be posting how I got started playing the games and reading the books. Do you have one to share? Send it to me or to Her Interactive, I'd love to know how you got started!

Contest + Ned in SPY

2013-06-16T12:09:00.001-07:00

First, I'm so sorry I haven't written a post in such a long time! Anyways lets get on to the post:
As you may know, Her Interactive is holding a "Where's Sonny?" Contest. Basically, you have to print out a Sonny June character and put him somewhere with you and take a picture. If you win you get the picture in SPY! Check out the page: HERE

Also, if you saw my last post (which was very informal) I gave exciting news that Ned is in SPY! It isn't confirmed, yet, but it does have the most evidence over all that we know about SPY.

Have you entered the contest? If not, will you?
What are your thoughts on Ned in SPY?
-Trey

Ned will be in SPY!

2013-06-07T12:15:00.000-07:00

Exciting news everyone! I just got a lead (from twitter), looking over who I am following on twitter I saw a tweet from Scott Carty, Here's the tweet:
Just about #NedNickerson time! Off to record new #NancyDrew adventure for @HerInteractive. Can't wait to see the script!

I think that's pretty solid evedince, Don't you?
I'd love to know your thoughts on this!

A longer thought out post will be coming real soon!

Game Rumers

2013-05-27T10:58:00.000-07:00

So, after searching through the message boards, I came across this thread by Vanilla Muffin asking if we wanted Nancy's mother to be dead (like stated in all the books) or alive (Which is a total long shot) Check out the thread HERE.

Most are saying they hope Nancy's Mother is dead. Not being hartless, but like what "LouisT<3" Said: "On a serious note, the plotline would not flow very well, to be honest, if she were alive. There would be too many questions that would have to be answered and I just do not think this game can be done in the time Her Interactive has to make it, if Nancy's mom is alive. "
I agree.

Another thread brought up the valid question: Is Samantha Quick involved?
We know from VEN that Samantha Quick was a spy, but maybe HeR decided to pull the two games together slightly by Samantha. Bu pull together I don't mean you would have to play VEN to play SPY, but they would bring Samantha back and Nancy would have to outsmart her. Or even work with her.

If you'd like to read the thread I'm talking about click HERE.

Thanks to Sleuth14 and Google for finding out that the number Nancy was called by was from Glasgow UK! Click HERE for the thread link, and HERE for what I found on Google.

What do you think about all these rumors? Check out the board so you can catch up on all the rumors! Click HERE.

My Collection

2013-05-24T16:49:00.001-07:00

So, earlier today I received a comment saying: "Lucky you! I'd love to see your collection"

I decided to pull out all of my ND books/games and post 'em hear!

Thanks for the comment Arial!

Post what games and books you own!

Did anyone catch the Amateur Sleuth puzzle this week? Hears what I got: eggdownstairs AKA Egg downstairs... what did you get?

See ya soon!

An edition to my collection

2013-05-22T11:11:00.001-07:00

I went to this little book store downtown, looking for The crooked banister my Mom and I drove to this little house that we had always seen but never went in. When we got in the house, we were astounded. The place was much bigger then we thought it was, and there had to be over two thousand books in there. We asked the woman at the counter if they had a Nancy Drew section and she directed us to a staircase. We were amazed that even the staircase was lined with books. I was very happy to find The crooked banister (the reasoning for getting it was because I am hosting a big Group Read on the Message Boards (Yes, I am WWNDD12) and I also found a lot of the unrevised books there. I only purchased two books, The crooked banister and Message in the Hollow Oak. Upon my findings, we found over a hundred books in a series my Brother likes, and newer Nancy Drew Series books.
These two books will be a good edition to my collection. Currently I only have twenty eight books in my collection. Maybe sometime I'll show you.

I'll post back soon! In the meantime, how meany ND books do you own? Comment down below or tweet me @treyschnarr.

Nancy Drew: The Silent Spy (Game 29)

2013-05-20T15:18:00.000-07:00

After playing GTH you can unlock the teaser trailer for the new ND game The Silent Spy! From what we hear, Nancy's mother was apart of a spy origination, or was somehow mixed up in the assignment of a spy. Anyways, we learn that Nancy's mother was named Kate Drew, and that all Nancy knows about her mother's accident which led to her death was a lie.

I have a suspicion that the abbreviation will be: SPY. Because, Little Jackalope from the Amateur Sleuth blog, said that she wouldn't say what the abbreviation was because it would give away too much of the title. And if it was something like: TSS, it wouldn't be obvious. But SPY makes perfect sense because it is a catchy abbreviation, sums up what the game is about and overall sounds like something Her Interactive would use.

What do you think?

I think that the game will be risky, it talks a lot about Nancy's mother, which we know nothing about. And it will be hard to pull off a spy game. But Her always pulls off everything awesomely! (o_~)

Any thoughts/roomers? Leave a comment below!

Ghost of Thornton Hall | Review

2013-05-18T08:03:00.003-07:00

Hello everyone!

Since finishing GTH, I really felt like I needed to put my opinion out there because people were to scared the game would be like a horror game. I hope you enjoy, and if you'd like leave a review in the comments below!

Plotline - : | : -

You are called by Savanna (SAW) to find Jessalyn Thornton, who is presumably Kidnapped. Savanna will not go for one reason. Thornton Hall is Haunted. Or not, you'll have to find that out for your selves. It is haunted by the ghost of Charlotte Thornton. She was killed by a fire, was it an accident, or was it meant to happen?

Subplots fallow:

Colton and Jess's engagement.

Harper, being somewhat crazy. Or made out to be.

Ned staying at Bess' house because she is board without George.

Wade's mishap with Clara.

Characters - : | : -

Colton Brichfield - Colton is Jessalyn's Fiance' Boyfriends are commonly the reason for their girlfriend being abducted. Is he really true to Jessalyn, or is it all an act?

Clara Thornton - The mother of Jessalyn. Is it possible that she is behind it all?

Wade Thornton - Wade is Jessalyn's Uncle, he has a shady past. I'll let you decide his guilt.

Harper Thornton - Her family disowned her, and even said it publicly. Maybe she is seeking revenge.

Jessalyn Thornton - She went to Thornton hall to blow off some steam before her wedding, maybe she backed out.

Addison Hummond (Phone Friend) - Jess's friend. She came with Jess to Thornton hall for Jess's premarital party.

Savanna Woodham (Phone Friend) - Expert ghost hunter, she is the one who called Nancy out to Thornton Hall. "Thornton Hall isn't for anyone who believes."

Bess Marvin & Ned Nickerson (Phone Friends) - Bess being on of Nancy's best friends asks Ned over to her house to give her something to do without George. Two spunky teens ready to help Nancy with the case!

Charlotte Thornton (Ghost) - Charlotte was killed in a fire by accident. Or was it really an accident? Is she seeking revenge and taken Jess?

Scariness - : | : -

I defiantly was startled a few times but it just made me wiggle my mouse around really fast. I didn't find it scary at all. I found it was more sad than scary. Lots of the music was sad, and it made me feel sad for the characters who loved Charlotte. (Which was everyone)

Overall - : | : -

I liked the game. It wasn't the all time best, It was very well put together. The graphics were great, music was outstanding, and the voice acting was amazing as well. I thought the game was very good, well thought out, and explained well.

I'll give it: 8.7 out of 10 points.

Contest Winners!

2013-05-17T17:38:00.002-07:00

So, if you preordered the physical Version of GTH then you were entered in to the Lace Mask Contest! 100 ND fans won, lets check it out and see who won! Did you win? I'd love to know!

If you didn't win and your really bummed, Don't worry! You can still buy the exact same mask on Amazon! (For anyone who wants to know It is around six dollars on amazon but free to all who won the contest)

Congrats to all, Sadly I didn't win one, and I won't be purchasing one either. But what do you think? Does it Look like Charlotte's mask?

Also, I'm super sorry my GTH review hasn't been posted yet! I'm really trying to pull everything together! What did you think of GTH? Leave a comment below and let me know!
I'll write you all later!

Interviewing: Gabriel Wolf | AKA Dylan Carter TMB

2013-05-15T14:07:00.000-07:00

Hey everyone! I was going to post my review today but a while ago, I did an Email Interview with Gabriel Wolf who does the voice acting for Dylan Carter (TMB)!

1. What is the Hardest thing about voice acting?

The hardest thing is, in my experience, finding the contacts you need to be in touch with and then finding out if the time spent on such people turn out to be worth it. As in, maybe not all the people you get in contact with will supply you with the work but at the very least you make some good friendships along the way. Voice Acting is about listening more than it is about the actual projection of the character. You have to be versatile and adapt, creative yet humble to direction. Being able to pick up on tone is also very important and I find that being a singer has helped more so than my acting experiences which allows me to stand out amongst the thousands of people who also state they're a voice talent or even in some cases those who are already established.

Believe in your abilities and keep developing yourself.

#2. What is the most easy part of voice acting?

Easy answer of an easy question. Being myself and proud of such.

#3. How did you get to be able to voice act for Dylan Carter In Nancy Drew Tomb Of the Lost Queen?

I'd been doing some amateur to indie work for some time - Movies, Theater and voice over and I'd been in contact with Lani who plays Nancy Drew. She really likes what I can do so introduced me to Nik over at HER Interactive. I audtioned for the role and I got it.

#4. Why did you decide to become a voice actor?

Seemed logical at the time, but the start of it began on the set of a studant film I was in. A chap on the set told me I should use my voice more often and he'd gotten into voice over work. There was my start!

#5. What do Dylan and yourself have in common?

Dylan's quite comfortable being who he is, where he is and makes the best of any given situation. He has his strengths and weaknesses and seems to embrace them. Other than the obvious similarity in that we're both British.

#6.What are some of your hobbies?

I sing, cook, read... used to write - should start up again at some point, I like physical activities like weight lifting and some cardio, walking. All seems a bit normal right? I'm very much into gaming, mainly MMO based titles on the PC. Rift being my current subscription.

#7. When did you First Hear about Nancy Drew?

First? When I had the script come through via email. I hear references to the franchise a lot nowadays since performing as Dylan on TV Shows and movies. Probably had no idea of the reference until after HER Interactive's recording session.

#8. Have you ever played Nancy Drew games before you voiced Dylan?

Nope.

#9. If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live?

Anywhere with a really decent view of the outside world... and not too far from a city centre that includes some awesome nightlife cafes and establishments. Daytime too. Safe neighbourhood... and... somewhere with lots of cool tech and gadgets inside! I love toys.

#10. If you had to go live in a Creepy Castle with a supposed Monster living around there, or, a Castle With a Banchee on the loose where would you live?

Banshee, definitely. I'd strike up a duet with them and have a wail. :p

Officially: Finished!

2013-05-13T15:27:00.002-07:00

Hay Everyone! I have finally completed GTH! *Super excited cheers* Have you?

Soon I will be writing a review, but for now I am going to give you a little teaser!

Plot line - : | : -

Subplots fallow:

Colton and Jess's engagement.

Harper, being somewhat crazy. Or made out to be.

Ned staying at Bess' house because she is board without George.

Wade's mishap with Clara.

If you are a bit stuck you can check out this awesome playlist of mine. FYI, these are my videos.

-Trey

It came!

2013-05-11T04:29:00.001-07:00

I'm very excited now, GTH came yesterday! I had been waiting all day, the mail came extra late, but it did finally come! But I am yet to complete it, I'll probably finish it today. I am trying not to use the strategy guide, or the message boards. (So tempting!)

A review for GTH is coming soon, so stay tuned!

Well, I'd better start sleuthing!
-Trey

Long Time No Post...

2013-05-08T09:41:00.000-07:00

Hay everyone! I'm really sorry about not posting lately! I really have no excuse... Sorry about that! ♥

Anywho! I was looking through the Message Boards and Lots of you have already gotten GTH, sadly mine is not hear... Yet... Thankfully, I pre-ordered within the first half hour you could, so I am getting the bonus edition, I say that because they are All sold out! Isn't that exciting!? Well for everyone who gets it.
But if your heart is set on getting the bonus edition than you still can, one catch, only for digital downloading. I prefer my games boxed because I have a whole collection of my Nancy Drew books and games! I may show those to you sometime...

Have you gotten GTH? If you haven't or didn't pre-order it, what are you doing to get ready for it? Do you have any pre-game habits? Which rout did you go, USPS or UPS?

To answer my questions:
Have you gotten GTH? Nope!
If you haven't or didn't pre-order it, what are you doing to get ready for it? I have a huge binder and I put my ND notes in it, and i always make a little cover for my game notes, Check out my binder and the new cover for my notes. (Maybe I'll show more later)
Do you have any pre-game habits? Well, I round up my brother and sister and start playing (With mouse in one hand and pen in my other about to write anything important down)
Which rout did you go, USPS or UPS? USPS, I know, I'm cheep but I'm also not made of money! LOL!

What are Y'all up to? I'd love to know!

I'll see you next week (Or sooner!)
-Trey

Interviewing Her Interactive

2013-04-20T08:16:00.001-07:00

Hay everyone!
First off, I'm sorry I'm a little late with this post, it was a little hectic around my house. But you don't care about that, what you want to see is the interview with Her Interactive! Thankfully Her Interactive accepted my interview invitation -- and Little Jackalope was kind enough to answer the questions!

#1. How Long has Her Interactive Been around?

Her Interactive has been around for quite a long time. It was originally a division of American Laser Games, and then later became its own unit. We like to say we started in 1995 when we first began creating the Nancy Drew games. Our first game was, of course, Secrets Can Kill, which came out in 1998.

#2. Did Her Interactive have any other games beside the Nancy Drew games and the Hardy Boy DS game?

We’ve been mostly focusing on Nancy Drew, but we did create a casual game a few years back called “The Cody Capers.”

#3. How long is the process of making a game from starting to think about the plot to the final part where you catch the culprit?

It takes about a full year to create a game, from the original idea to the point where you can pick it up off the shelf, or download it from www.herinteractive.com.

#4. In your opinion what is the hardest thing about making the games and selling them?

From my personal perspective, it’s time. We make two games a year, and so we do our very best to maintain the quality in the short time we have. We are always running, but we adore this challenge as well! Not very many companies out there can say that they make this many games in the time provided.

#5. In your opinion what is the easiest thing about making the games and selling them?

I believe the easiest thing about making a game is coming up with ideas. Everyone here who works on a Nancy Drew game is super creative and there are so many ideas bouncing around the office, that we cannot fit all of them into each game.

#6. Why did Her Interactive decide to make Nancy Drew Games?

Way back in the 90’s we noticed that there weren’t many games out there for girls, and so we decided that our target audience shall be young girls and woman, and what better role model to base the games on than Nancy Drew? She’s inspiring, gutsy, resourceful and smart and all around fun to be!

#7. What made you guys decide to have these mysterious characters like Sonny Joon and Samantha Quick?

Sometimes we come up with fun new characters to play smaller roles in the stories, and other times it just happens. For instance, Samantha Quick was just a random name that Simone Mueller came up with for Nancy in The Final Scene, whereas Sonny Joon was someone we had fun with and wanted to continue using as ways to get helpful puzzle notes into Nancy’s hands.

#8. On the Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon (TRN) cover there are seven thirteens hidden in the art, is there any other hidden objects in any of the other games covers?

TRN was a special one in that sense, but we do like to hide small details in each cover, so after you are attracted by the big picture, you will look closer at the art and discover something interesting. Example: There is a monster in the necklace on the cover of The Captive Curse.

#9. When a plot is thought up, what comes next?

After the location and plot, we then design the characters and puzzles. At this point, our writer will write up the script and our designer will send direction to the artists on how to create the look and the environments. A lot of meetings happen throughout these early stages!

…and finally!

#10. Why do you think that the games have become such a hit over the past few years?

This would be a question for the fans! We often find that moms who have read the original Nancy Drew books growing up have discovered the games, which they share with their daughters and the daughters with their friends. Nancy is a great character and the games are really fun, and players have agreed! We like to maintain a good relationship with our fans; we listen to their input, what they like and don’t like, what they wish and we take that into consideration when going forward with new mysteries. We make games for those who like a good story and great challenge!

Thanks again Little Jackalope for answering my questions! To check out her blog click hear and to check out the official Dare to Play Blog click hear!

Stick around, because I also Interviewed Gabriel Wolf, the voice actor of Dylan Carter in Tomb of the Lost Queen (TMB)!

See you next week!

Hello! My name is Trey, I've been a Nancy Drew fan for over six years, first being a fan of the books then of the PC games. I am starting this blog for one reason: To give updates, post roomers (from the Her Interactive Message Boards of which I am a member) and much more! This is all my prospective so please tell me if I have something wrong. I may start posting puzzles as the Amateur Sleuth Blog Although may not be as good Little Jackalope's.

Now you are probably dying to know what my username for the Message Boards is if your anything like me! I'll leave a few hints to who I am in some of my posts I'm shore you can figure out who I am. XD

I will be trying to post on Fridays, I may post earlier or later.
