I really am the biggest fan of Chanel, as most are. And I love love love Karl. But I have to admit that I just don't get it anymore. As I was browsing through all the looks from the Resort 2014 collection, I couldn't help but gasp at how unflattering most of the looks were. I mean, those models are TWIGS...and a lot of the looks make them look chubby, frumpy, short and stalk-y. But there were a couple of looks that I thought were fun and super chic. A couple...♥

YEA! I let one of my favorite YouTube beauty gurus, Petra Kozina (whom I've featured on here before) know about that post I recently did on the cover of Lula with Karen Elson and that amazing makeup she had on...and Petra loved it so much that she recreated it! And I love it even more methinks! It's such a rockstar look (or what I like to call a rockstar-girlfriend look). It's so unconventional and radical and she's right...it is very 70's...like a very 70's Bowie look. I'm so excited she loved it enough to teach us how to achieve this look. Which is the most amazing part because I've been staring at that Lula cover for a couple of years, and now I finally know how to achieve the look. Doesn't hurt that Petra has amazing blue eyes and red hair right now, too...

I have a couple of new films I've watched that I want to post on here as soon as I find some stuff online about them. But I just watched this and had forgotten about all the girls and the hair and makeup and style from this Scorpions video for their awesome kick-ass song, "I'm Leaving You"...

Scorpions are one of my favorite bands (sans "Winds of Change"...which is good but it's not as good as their other songs). There are a lot of pretty girls in there. A lot of hairspray. A lot of makeup and a lot of funny effects. The song is amazing, though.

I had to do a post on this random find. I'm always checking out serums. I love them. Especially because my skin is so sensitive and can be super dry (even in the summer). On a day when I stopped by a shop that sells some pretty good products, I found this Elizabeth Arden Overnight Success Skin Renewal Serum for a good price. I looked it up and it has some amazing reviews. So I gave it a go and WOW...

Now, I have used Retin-A for years. I am due for a new prescription because it lasts forever and mine ran out a couple of months ago. I always tend to gage how well a product works in comparison to that/it/Retin-A I am referring to. When I wake up in the morning, do I see a noticeable difference? Does my skin looked healed? Renewed? Fresh? Different? Feel good? Etc? I have problematic skin, mostly due to the stupidity of using antibiotics my entire life...now I only use natural and holistic and diet kind of methods to remedy problems and it works. For the most part.

I was really amazed at how fast this serum worked. Not only did my skin feel amazing, a lot of the pigmentation was gone, after only one or two uses. Well, much lighter. Less noticeable. A couple of ornery blemishes were almost totally healed up. I looked up the main active ingredient in this which is called Plantolin...which I guess is some amazing ingredient..."patented herbal extract clinically tested to heal and rejuvenate the skin faster than any product available on the world..." Um, after using this...I believe it!

I dunno. I have to say if I ever see this anywhere for a good price (I think it's not too high anyway), I'll def always pick it up. It's proven to me already in just a short time that it works. The thing is, as a brand Elizabeth Arden has fallen short on continuing to educate the public on how good their skincare is. There was a time when those red doors were synonymous with good skincare and good spa treatments. Maybe they should consider upping their marketing game a bit. Because their products are actually pretty amazing for the price. (I have a couple of other products to review, too...one other from EA and two from Caudalie, which I'm surprisingly disappointed about.)

I am not sure if this is still available or not. I have to look it up. At first, I saw it at Nordstrom's. But now I can't find it online really. I'll add a link soon, though. I bought mine for around $20, which I can't believe (for 1 ounce in a sleek nice blue pump bottle). Oh wait...here's a link, but you might find it for less on Amazon. ♥

It's been a little while since I showcased some fun shoes. Even though I am not sure I would actually wear any Louboutin Daffodiles (that's a lie, I totally would wear some Louboutin Daffodiles), I had to post these ultra mega super amazing Glam Rock specials! They're the Daffodile 160 crystal-embellished leather pumps and they cost $6,395! They're covered with candy-colored crystals and actually they do look very candy-esque when you think about it. They look crazy Glam Rock. They'd look amazing with some bell-bottoms (I have some from the very last Chloé collection that Phoebe Philo designed). If i landed these, I would love them to death. But for $6000, I could buy a lot of other things. I wonder how many of these they actually produce...

I had forgotten that I owned this issue of Lula...it's issue nine. I can't find the date or year anywhere for it. But it must be a couple of years old. I know all of the stories, but I forgot I actually owned the issue in which they all appear. This is an amazing issue if you can get your hands on it. Especially the cover featuring covergirl Karen Elson. I have a liking for this model. I don't know if I would like her as much if I hadn't met her once at a Dazed and Confused (magazine) party (when I was still writing for them). It was in New York and she looked so simple...like a hippy girl you'd see at a Grateful Dead show (when The Dead actually played and Jerry was still alive). The thing is, she was so so nice. Super cool girl. I love all about this shoot, especially her makeup. It's just too too amazing for words. I have tried to capture some of it close up for you below...I actually do have some makeup reviews and skincare reviews to post. But I've had terrible insomnia and so I am now typing like a robot girl before I pass out. I shall post them up later, though. Promise. x♥

I am stoked to be sharing this. It's not gone out as a press release yet...but I thought I could share it on TGIF anyway with y'all because it is fun and funny and I'm happy it happened. They wanted to interview me because it's THE ROXY (on the Sunset Strip) 40th anniversary...and they thought it would be cool to talk to me about what it was like to be a wee teen hanging out there during the Metal heyday...I did talk about the book and that's why they asked me to come on the show. But for some reason, there is no mention of it on the show. :/ But it's still cool press. ...And it's super cool. She sounds down with it. I like that she's moving forward. Speaking from loads of experience with brands and fashion shows....of course it was always nice to watch some of the shows. But for the most part, I was confused about how much work and money they'd spend for literally less than 20 minutes. I'm someone who has been hired to conceptualize and create events and other fun things...unconventional ways of promoting the brand. So it's lovely to hear Donatella actually discuss it, which I also think is radical. They uploaded this to YouTube and she's talking about everything as though we, the consumers, are involved in the creative process. Utter genius. It's always also very sweet whenever she talks about Gianni. You know she still thinks about him every single day and is ever grateful for his genius.

I also did a bit of thrifting today...I haven't done that in a long time. I was looking for something fantastic and sparkly or dark and sparkly, which I did not find this time. :( But I took a few pics nevertheless and I'll post those soon...maybe tomorrow. AND I got the links for my interview on BBC Radio! I'll do a post on that very soon. Maybe this weekend. I had to edit it and such so you didn't have to hear the entire show if you didn't want to. Everyone said I did great, but I still think I sound like Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High (one of my all-time favorite films)!♥

For me, she always has the items I seek from designers as well as awesome no-name vintage, especially vintage. In the "new arrivals" newsletter this past week were these amazing amazing ALEXANDER MCQUEEN red suede super high heel with gold skulls at the peep toe! I'm a 6.5, so these might be a bit tight. But I might still get them if I get an opportunity to splurge (pending they don't sell before I can land them!). They're pretty amazing and for $500, they're not too bad. I wish they were more around $300 since they're used. But these shoes would still be an amazing addition. See more details here.♥

I had to post these photos of the gorgeous Winona Ryder in Interview magazine. Apparently, she's back in a big way...with two really good films coming out (one very soon). I realize it's been an eternity since she's been in the spotlight and the younger kids today might not realize just how huge she was. When I was a wee little thing in LA, I remember hearing about Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder all the time. We'd always hear about them shopping at the Beverly Center (a mall that's still there...but back in the day, it was really special and also had fancy restaurants and clubs on the bottom floor! I used to go there for shoes...they had the BEST shoes at that mall)...they were amazing together. I'm actually truly surprised that she hasn't been in more of Tim Burton's films (after Edward Scissorhands), because she super fits the bill...just like Johnny. I also know of some crazier stories from her not-so-great times...very Lindsay Lohan style...I can't say too much. But what I can say is that she used to shop with her assistant at a fancy fancy vintage shop my friends own...and she usually seemed out of it and would complain about needing a discount or something like that. I'm sure she was just out of it. I really hope this is her big comeback because she is and was a great actress and really gorgeous. She was much bigger than Angelina. Maybe she can take those reigns again. I also love seeing how gorgeous and dark she looks in a time when most actresses are trying too too hard to be super "pretty" and "sexy". Anyway...here it is...it was shot by Craig McDean (duh) and styled by Karl Templer (bravo)...the makeup is also gorgeous. But I can't find the credit for it...♥

I have finished up some of my products (woohoo!) and I'm stoked because I rarely ever finish up product...because there's always so damn much! I have a few others, but I'll keep this one focused on four higher end products...

Rodial Body Soufflé

I was really excited to use this product. It's made in England, it's very expensive and has a super "posh" rep as a brand. I dunno about this lotion. It was a little too fragranced for me. Not strong fragrance, but once I slathered it on, I could immediately feel something...I'm very sensitive and dry and if something has too much fragrance, I can feel it. Especially if it's synthetic. The smell was odd but good...a sort of vanilla musky light scent...it was nice. I did like this, but nearly as much as I love my Laura Mercier body creams. It's $35 for a 6.56-ounce tub. I felt very chic with this near my bed. But I'd only pick this up again if I got it for a good price. You can buy it here if you like.

PAI ECHIUM ANTI-AGEING EYE CREAM

I bought this (like the Alpha-H) because Ruth Crilly from A Model Recommends loves it. But honestly, I don't get it. I guess if you're like 19 and need a first eye cream, this is okay. But I started using eye cream in junior high, methinks...somewhere in 9th or 10th grade. Maybe even 8th grade. And even back then, I was using a good quality one from Lancome. To me, this felt cheap, light, too light in fact to really do any kind of anti-ageing as it claims. Personally I think it's better to buy a really good heavier cream and use less if you're younger than get something that's so light and sort of useless. I'm sure the other products from Pai are awesome. But I wouldn't ever buy this again, even if I was still 18. It's $54! NOT worth it. At all! You can buy a truly amazing eye cream for that price. But if you want to try it for yourself, you can do so here.

ALPHA-H LIQUID GOLD

I used my Alpha-H Liquid Gold regularly, about twice a week. It's pretty good. I wouldn't say it sucks. But it was expensive and took forever to get because it was sold out and I had to order it from the UK, so it took a long time to get to me. It does what it says. BUT I was also using some StriVectin serums at the same time on alternate nights and those worked AMAZINGLY better than this. I think the StriVectin was as good as Retin-A. I could see results the next morning in a big way, whereas I saw results with Alpha-H, but not in the way I'd expect. Not as good as StriVectin. Wow...looks like the price went down or I got ripped off. I paid around $60 for 100ml and now I see it for around $40! If I found it for a good deal, I would def pick it up. I might buy it for $40, but not $60. But I'd still always pick StriVectin or Murad or Peter Thomas or something else before this. You can buy it here. (I'd get it again for $40, honestly...if I already had something else to use on alternate nights. I can't believe I paid $60!)

LIERAC PARIS ARKESKIN FACE CREAM

I was so so excited to buy this. I found it at a great price, but now I wish I had picked a serum and not a cream. This is also an anti-ageing cream. I like them because of course I need them and also because I have very dry skin. I loved the heavy glass container. Felt very old school and fancy. The cream felt expensive. It's super super fragranced like too much perfume! I'm not kidding. I don't know if it did a thing, honestly. :( Pretty disappointed, but I got it for a great deal. So no worries. I know this is a drugstore brand in France, but their drugstore brands are actually really good/high quality. This was the first time I bought anything French drugstore and didn't really think it was that great. :( In the USA, you can now get it at CVS and Walgreens (I think Boots bought Walgreens, so we should be seeing some good additions soon) for $60. I'm so so glad I didn't pay that. I paid around half that price. I'll still keep the jar, though. It's gorgeous!♥

This is a silent film from 1927 (amazing makeup and fashion! I want to do my eyes all the time like Clara Bow...and remember...that was a huge huge inspiration for the Biba look) called "IT"...this is supposed to be the very first time we have the term IT-girl...this is point from which is takes off. Which is cool. It also stars the amazing Clara Bow...one of the biggest and first true starlets of the era. Other than that, it's filmed in a department store in the fashion section (see all the lovely stockings!!!) and it's the end of the 20's...when things start to get flapper-y...I could watch these old films forever just for the fashion and style alone. Even the men have impeccable style here.

Exciting news...the new album from Amy Davis and Jon Moritsugu's band LOW ON HIGH is out now! It's their second album (for this band) and it's called ICE CREAM SEX! You can buy it and hear previews of the songs on AMAZON or ITUNES...I'm currently waiting for my copy (yea!), but I did get a chance to preview the songs on Amazon and I think I love this album even more than the last one! There's something very nostalgic (I don't know if nostalgic is the right word, but you get what I mean) about LOW ON HIGH for me...my favorite bands growing up were mainly garage punk rock or LA new wave bands...they sounded raw and radical and the girls were always sexy as hell. Hardly anyone makes records like that anymore. Everything sounds so computerized, which is probably why I still love Heavy Metal and Punk so much. Aside from their songs and brilliance, I also really love Amy's voice...I told her the other day that I think of Traci Lords (the porn star...when she was very young...like in "Cry-Baby"...that awesome John Waters film starring Johnny Depp) every time I listen to one of their albums. :) And they agreed. :) There's something very naughty about it and the lyrics and that teamed with their energetic fun is what makes it a winner. Their latest film, PIG DEATH MACHINE, was part of the Chicago Underground Film Festival (their films are coveted and cult and very well known)...and while they attended the festival, they also decided it was time to play a show to celebrate...

I have another post I am going to put up...but last night I saw this new video by YouTube beauty guru THE BEAUTY PROFESSOR (the lovely Rachel Anise) about doing your makeup for a job interview. I do love her makeup and I love it when makeup is there, and it's not totally bare, but it looks...effortless. Plus, who doesn't love all the posh bits she uses from her cosmetics collection? :) I had to post this...because even though I'm a bit lucky in that I can be very casual if I want to for my type of career, I still have a lot of moments where I'm panicked because of the hot weather and/or the hot weather that might break down my morning masterpiece. It's nerve wracking when you're getting ready for an interview...no matter how cool or successful you are. And she's right, you get your nerves going and somehow the makeup sometimes just starts to look...freaky. My favorite and prob one of my most successful interviews came from a huge agency...but I didn't have time to think. They literally asked me to come down within an hour. I had to get up, throw something casual on because I was riding my bike (it was in Portland, Oregon where everyone rides bikes) and touch up my face and jet. It was great, I got in, I felt and looked good. But...there have been a few interviews where the employer has been very excited to meet me...but, by the time I went in, I was nervous, uncomfortable and really worried about my face. I never used to have to interview. Ever. And I used to like jeans and sneakers and natural (I mean totally natural) makeup. But these days I want to be more dressed up and glamorous. I want to have a "polished" face as Rachel explains. I think everyone should watch this. I mean, she is a professor in real life, she is gorgeous and she does do good face. AND, PS...I've never been interested in the Beauty Blender...until I watched the below video. She makes me want to buy so many makeup goods!

I also have some new makeup dupes that I love love. As well as my thoughts on Alpha-H Liquid Gold (now that I've finished it) and some other bits from Lierac that I want to share my thoughts on now that the products are done.♥

I really cannot believe I never ever saw the movie "Say Anything" starring John Cusack and Ione Skye...until yesterday. I'm probably the only person on the planet who didn't know what that Peter Gabriel "In Your Eyes" scene where he's holding the boombox above his head meant. I have no idea why I never saw it. I don't think it was ever on TV like some of the other films were...over and over and over (esp "Some Kind of Wonderful" which I love). So I finally did it and watched it and it was good. It was a typical teen love crush heartache heartbreak 80's kind of film. I would have probably put it in my top ten film list had I seen it when I was 13. But seeing it now, I kept thinking how beautiful Ione Skye was...(John Cusack is a genius actor and it was cool to see him again in something new...plus, Jeremy Piven of "Mr. Selfridge" (love that show) and "Entourage" has a tiny role, too...though he looks pretty much the same now as he did then). So I thought (since I could not find a full film video to post up), I'd post the trailer and include some lovely pics of Ione Skye. As far as I remember, she married and divorced my favorite Beastie Boy Ad-Rock. I remember seeing their photos in teen magazines. She was with Anthony Kiedis (Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman) before that. I think she's now married to Ben Lee (who used to be with Clare Danes). I also think she's the sister of hottie Donovan Leitch (who is married to old-school model Kirsty Hume) and the daughter of 60's folk singer Donovan. (She actually looks a lot like her dad...click his name and see how much.) She is such a timeless beauty. I see her look in so many campaigns and shoots and films, still, to this day. ♥

♥ NANCY GIRL BOOK CLUB ♥ CHANEL AND HER WORLD ♥

I received this book a long time ago now...well, at least three or four months ago...and I still haven't finished going through it. It's called CHANEL AND HER WORLD and it's really like a miniature encyclopedia of all things Chanel (yum!). I've mentioned before that I have a pretty large library of Chanel books (been collecting since I was a teenager) which includes some out-of-print books that have photos I have never seen in any other publication...until now. If you want to see every detail and read every detail and know how she came up with those buttons and that logo and her love of pearls and and and and...this is the book for you. It's very thick and loaded with references, posters, history of the era, very personal photos of Chanel (even scandalous morning shots of the fellows and their mistresses eating breakfast in their pajamas). more thursday stuff ♥ miu miu peep toes

♥ REVISITNG NARS SHEER GLOW & MAYBELLINE DEFINE-A-BROW ♥

I didn't update my post yesterday, so I'll just do one separately today for the makeup stuff I wanted to revisit. I have had the worst allergies ever this season and right now I am fighting a really bad sinus infection...please send good vibes that I feel better by the time I go to bed tonight so I can be perky and happy in the morning for my interview (! more on that later!)...

But I wanted to revisit a couple of products I have written about and kind of forgot about or wasn't super thrilled about them at first...though now I get it and understand what I needed to do. They're products I am pretty much loving as of this moment.

First is Nars Sheer Glow foundation. Everyone has written about this and talked about it and reviewed it. I bought it thinking I would be loving it, as I have super dry and sensitive skin. But...I wasn't super excited about the look or the color of it. So it went back in it's box and I didn't really use it for a long time. Lately, however, I've been on a mission to use up the foundations that I'm not in love with now that I know which products I like (over a year ago, my fave foundation that I had used for years and years got discontinued...and I went on a mission to find a new HG base). Not too long ago, I watched one of the newer Lisa Eldridge foundation series vids (if you haven't seen these, go watch them...they are great and she's very nice on the eyes and soothing on the ears), and she really re-iterated that it was best to start with a THIN layer of foundation and then add more THIN layers rather than slapping on a thicker batch to cover up imperfections. I was intrigued. I guess I missed that direction in her other vids or somehow it did not register. I decided to try this method with the Nars Sheer Glow in Fiji. I applied smooth THIN layers. The results were very different for me than my past applications. The color even looked better. It lasted longer. And you could hardly see the foundation. So now I am really enjoying it, though I don't think I will repurchase after it's done as I love my Revlon Colorstay (for dry skin) and my Asian-brand foundations and BB creams so much more (on the list to try is def the Amore Pacific compact that The Beauty Professor reviewed recently...she sold me!).

Another product I recently bought (thanks for Josh Collier) was Maybelline's Define-A-Brow which is supposedly a dupe for Mac's brow pencils (the ones Charlotte Tilbury always uses). I couldn't find the right color the first time (medium brown is supposed to be a dupe for Mac's Lingering). I bought the color light brown first. But I wasn't so in love with it. After a long while, I finally found the Maybelline pencil in medium brown...and it's awesome! The color is perfect. It looks so natural on a darker brow. And it's only $6. I am a fan. :)

So def try the pencil out if you're in the market for a new one or you don't want to pay $25 for the Mac pencil because it runs out so quickly. And if you have your Nars Sheer Glow just sitting there collecting dust, whip it out and start with THIN THIN layers. Build it up that way, as Lisa says to do. And let me know what you think.

But I am stoked because I just got confirmation for something really fun and exciting! I will share it with you on the day it happens! Woohoo! Or maybe the night before. I don't want to get ahead of myself.
