Random Outdoors

2011-07-24T17:08:00.000-07:00

Today we have random outdoors (wasn't sure what else to call them ;) Gee it was easier when I wasn't classifying them into groups!

Changing my Domain

2011-07-20T17:03:00.000-07:00

I'm changing my domain www.nancylovering.com (long story short - it's just really poorly designed by yours truly, so I thought I'd point a nicer blogger template to the address). Meanwhile I need a home for the old pics, which I still like... so... I'll start posting them here.

Starting with: cats!! :)

A Photo Of My Dog

2010-04-26T13:56:00.000-07:00

My dog, who rarely stands still long enough to be photographed. In this (highly Photoshopped ;) pic he's waiting for me to kick his ball...

Ladies Olympic Curling

2010-02-27T22:35:00.000-08:00

I was lucky to get a ticket to an Olympic event - the ladies curling semi-final. Sweden played China, and Canada played Switzerland. (Sweden and Canada later advanced to the gold and silver medal match, and China and Switzerland played for the bronze.) I was madly cheering for Canada, of course, but was seated closer to Sweden and China, so their pictures turned out much better! Here`s a shot of the Swedish team (who would later win gold) immediately following their victory over China.

Olympic Cauldron At Night

2010-02-21T18:38:00.000-08:00

We went into downtown Vancouver again (on Feb 20th), and this time we stayed until after dark... which of course meant I had to photograph the cauldron again!!! I took soooo many pics on Saturday, but at the moment I have only 177 mb of space left on my hard drive, which means I can't really decode or edit anything. I had to squeeze in the night cauldron shot though... I love the contrast between the cool blue light and the hot flames :)

Olympic Torch Relay Edits

2010-02-17T17:11:00.000-08:00

Here's a crop of a torch relay pic I took... when the shot was all colour, the two ladies at the bottom were too visually important. There are a few approaches that could have been taken to solve this, and I took the approach of desaturating and selective colouring. I wasn't sure how far to go, though, so here I have two versions. Which one do you prefer?

Olympic Cauldron

2010-02-14T00:07:00.000-08:00

We braved the crowds and ventured down town today - here's a shot (through the fence, lol) of the Olympic caudron. This is a crop, and I played with the colours a bit. I must say it was neat to see it up close - well worth the transit trip :)

Olympic Torch Relay

Today was torch day for us! I took a few pics, which I haven't had a chance to edit yet, except for this one...

Why I Keep Second Rate Edits (And Fill Many Hard Drives ;)

2010-01-18T20:13:00.000-08:00

Here's a lily pic from last summer that I played with in Photoshop and thought was too dark, so I never did anything with it. Still, I saved the edit anyway. Now that I see it again I quite like it. I think sometimes that when you compare an edit to the original, it can affect how you see the edit. Looking at this pic today, I can't remember what the original looked like, so I like this better now...

Christmas Tree Ornament

2009-12-29T06:40:00.000-08:00

Here's another tree pic. I usually tweak them in Photoshop a bit and this one is no exception - I saturated the colours and played with the hue.

This Year's Christmas Pics

Vancouver Skyline

2009-11-15T08:41:00.001-08:00

Here's new territory for me: night time skyline pics! It was raining and I was struggling with an umbrella (such fun ;) so I only snapped a few. I wish now I would have taken the time to set up my tripod so they would have been a bit more clear, but you get the idea. They were shot at ISO 1600, and edited a bit with PS curves.

Halloween!

2009-11-01T09:12:00.000-08:00

When I was shopping for pumpkins I grabbed two with long stems so that I could carry them more easily. It wasn't until I got home that I realized how much fun they would be to photograph...

Halloween Craft

2009-10-31T08:46:00.000-07:00

I went to my son's school Halloween party and "only" took 161 pics (that's 80 per hour). Gee, I'm slacking off ;)

Because I don't post personal people stuff, and 99% of the pics I took are kids, kids (and more kids!), there isn't really anything I can post here, except for this shot of my son's craft. He did a pretty good job, except I don't think he used enough glue...

Mmmm... Cake!!!

2009-10-19T20:32:00.000-07:00

Yup, it was yummy. This shot is from a family birthday party on Saturday. It was in a poorly lit restaurant and I forgot my flash (of course) so many shots that should have been good were, um, not so much. Although this shot is technically lacking as well, since it makes me want to eat more cake I thought it was effective enough to post. Mind you, I always want to eat cake...
