What does the Africa of your dreams look like? What hopes and dreams do you have? How do you envision the future?

The African Development Bank is prompting Africa’s youth to think about how the fourth industrial revolution will shape the economies, jobs and lives of tomorrow by putting pen to paper and enter The Africa of my Dreams writing contest which aims to reinforce the Bank’s commitment to Africa’s youth and bring their voice and perspective into discussions of the continent’s development.

All you have to do is write an article (no longer than 1,000 words) on the Africa of your dreams, by March 26. Entries can be in English or French, and must be an unpublished journalistic piece, in the media category, or an unpublished essay or creative writing piece, in the general category, related to the contest’s theme, “Accelerating Africa’s Industrialization” and based on any of the following sub-themes:

Smart Cities and Urban Development
The Internet of Things
Agriculture as a Business
4th Industrial Revolution
ICTs and the video game industry
Inclusive and sustainable industrial development
Integrating Africa through Entertainment
Blockchain and cryptocurrency
The future of entrepreneurship
Health innovation

Participants must be a national of one of the 54 African countries.

By recognizing the energy, creativity and innovative thinking that they bring to the table, the Bank aims to encourage the youth to reflect on the pivotal role they play in the development of their countries and the continent. It is expected that the population of the youth will double from the current 480 million to reach 840 million, by 2050, and Africa will be the youngest continent in the world.

Accelerating Africa’s development through industrialization is also one of the Bank’s strategic priorities, the High 5s. The rise and diversification of investments in the continent as well as the structural factors that have contributed to its sustained economic growth, such as demographics, growing internal markets, urbanization and technological developments, represent a driving force to accelerate the Africa’s industrialization.

Leveraging the youth’s innovative and creative potential can play a crucial role in industrializing Africa.

SWIFT Networks Acquires Chromecom, Expand To Abuja and Port Harcourt, Increase 4G LTE Base Stations in Lagos.

SWIFT Networks has completed the acquisition of 15MHz of spectrum in the 3.5GHz band from Chromecomm Ltd. (a subsidiary of Monarch Communications Limited). This, in addition to its 20MHz of 3.5GHz spectrum will be utilized to decongest existing 4G LTE network all across Lagos state from October, 2015.

Swift is also expanding its 4G LTE Broadband services to both Abuja and Port Harcourt and with additional increase of over 1,000 4G LTE base stations to be deployed in Lagos State alone during the last quarter of this year.

The equipment for the migration of over 100,000 WiMAX customers to this expanded 4G LTE network to be undertaken from October, 2015 has been ordered and the most popular high-speed broadband service provider said it would swap out all the current 4G WiMAX modems to the faster and more efficient 4G LTE modems FREE OF CHARGE. As a social unit consisting of people related by blood or by kinship, the family is and remained the oldest human institution on earth. The role of the family in raising the children is one of the most important roles. It is the first factor that influences the behavior of the children in their early childhood. It is the only institution in which members live before birth, during a lifetime and after death on other member. The individual i.e. father, mother, children, cousin e.t.c. is what makes up the unit of the family, which makes up the unit of the human s ociety.

Thus, the family can be said to be the fundamental strength of the society. And this is owing to its omniscient role of nurturing the individual with an uncommon cordiality as are absent in other institution. As a matter of fact, the human society can barely hold itself from descending into chaos without the stabilization provide by its principal unit, the family. Resonantly, the role of the family at providing the basis for early child’s socialization as well as instilling the necessary cultural pattern is the pivot of our social life. The family is also the child's source of economic resources needed for meeting various physical and emotional needs.

There is no person on earth who doesn’t belong to a family. Being a member of its three categories; nuclear, compound and extended is the anchorage for ensuring individual’s identity. We are first a product of the family before we become a member of the society. Though and ultimately, the depth of intricacies existing between the family and the society tend to consumed this identity. The twist is that, the role of the family and that of the society are twined. Whatever becomes of the individual is the direct combination of these two influences. The former kick-start the snow ball while the later spins it into a mighty avalanche.

In the ancient African setting, the families were large, and every member of the family had an important role in helping to provide the family needed. The men hunted, farmed and maybe worked at a trade. The women cared for the children, cared for the garden, and engaged in the petty commerce of making dresses, cooking, and other necessities. They also cared for the domestic animals while also serving are house-nurse to other members of the family. The children tend to provide assistance where needed or as assigned a by other elderly member.

But as we entered the third millennium and the reality of hunger, diseases and war keeps painting the gory portrait of an uncertainty future, there are growing concerns about what the role the family should be. The opinions are crossed and complicated by the different world view share by those examining the issue. Of course there are lots of changing trends that are threatening to destroy our family life. Modern technological discoveries designed to help us are also capable of stealing our family peace. There are also economics and government policies changes within and outside our countries of residence. These changes are making vices like unfaithfulness homosexuality and divorce more acceptable while eroding the very importance of the family life. Already, the precarious situation of many families in urban and rural areas, poor parents and their children are forced to work out how to survive. These pressures are exerting forces of disintegration on the family life.

How important is the family? What is its function in the present realities of our world? How both parent work? Who should offset the bills? How can parent be better empowered to cope with pressures? Are there moral justifications for parent who push their children into the street? To what extent should a family go in its attempt to survive? What role should the community play and how?

The answering of these will help resolve the burning question on what the role of the family should be in this age.

Xenophobia: Nigerians vs. South Africa

Examining the fate of Nigerians in the recent South Africa Xenophobic reaction.

The gory picture in the media about the recent South Africa Xenophobic reaction reveals a society gone out of order. The kind of treatment meted out to fellow Africans and especially Nigerians stand condemned in the light of any justification by these erratic youths.

With the recent escalation, this reaction has now gone out of hand. Governments of nation whose citizens were mobbed and killed must rise in unison to curtail this menace. The manner of it especially against the Nigerians is completely unacceptable. Nigerian government need to rise to the occasion and take action. We must condemn it in its entirety and seek for fairer treatment. If need be, our government must insist and stand her ground by asking for a redefinition of the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Nigeria government has been very slow at responding to most issue affecting Nigerians abroad. There are several cases that our people had expected a rather definitive approach but were handled with disdain. Why does everybody have to take from Nigeria and we are not just reaching out to take advantage of getting something back? How unfortunate that as yet with the escalation of injuries and deaths inflicted on Nigerians by these outraged xenophobic youths, not a single government official either home or abroad is yet to make a statement regarding the situation? How can we condone such madness meted out to our people when America will declare war to be there for one citizen of the United States of America?

Is it not a historical irony that Nigerians should be served with the unjust treatment as the colonial or apartheid-led whites gave some years ago? And even in that struggle against oppression, the price paid by the government and people of Nigeria is quite enormous. Our people fought, matched, protested, died and celebrated with songs and supports of diverse providence the course of South Africans especially towards their emancipation from the shackles of apartheid. Various delegations on their behalf foresaw our government using the hard-earn resources of the Nigerians to venture and join voices in the several talks leading to their freedom. This twist is certainly to our disadvantage and shame.

Lest we have forgotten, Nigerians economy now harbors the best of their businesses. For goodness sake, the lists of Nigerian-based multinational companies wholly owed or controlled by South Africa people or government is far greater than the hundreds of Nigeria migrants residing in that country. Nigerians are not destroying any of MTN’s installation even when their services are poor and genuine reasons to rampage are evident. As far back as 2003, media reports across the globe had begun to feature writings about the invasion of the South Africans into the Nigerian economy. Today, this influx is far greater than imagined. In the Lagos (the business capital of Nigeria) alone, we have Shoprite, MTEL, Woolworth, Chicken Republic, Bassellos, Steers, St Elmos, and DSTV/Multichoice. Even the media is not spared in this conquest. Bussinessday, a Nigerian business reporting newspaper also have Johnnic Communications – a South African media giant for her partner. Even the largest tourism project in the Nigeria, the Tinapa project, is a joint venture between Standard Bank, Broll, and Southern Sun - all South African firms. Entech, a South African engineering firm is also handling the redevelopment of Lagos's Bar Beach and Victoria Island waterfront at a whooping contract sum of $3 billion. Another South African firm, Group Five, is said to be building a power station in the Niger River delta. The connection between Nigerian advertising and entertainment industries with professionals from South Africa is also a deeply rooted romance.

This information is source from the media in whom the Nigerian masses depends for information and education from time to time. So, Nigerians are quite aware of what is going on. This supposed take-over of our economy by the South Africans was never at any time misinterpreted. Our perception and relationship with these businesses have with utmost cordiality and civility – as, fellow Africans. These companies have created thousands of jobs and are contributing to our economy. Properly investigated, Nigerians working with these organizations or their affiliate establishments would have one or two things to say about fair or unfair treatments. And certainly, there could be individuals outside this frame who’ll have come up with such insane idea about the activities of foreign companies in Nigeria as envisioned and implemented by these out-of-control xenophobic South Africans.

The greatest impetuous to this assault by the South Africans on was unfortunately given by the Nigerians government. How? The slow pace of reacting on matters of this importance is exasperating, the deliberate business waivers given to these companies when new tax laws are requiring of our small-scale business such outrageous and business suffocating payments, as well as the patronage enjoyed by South African immigrants in Nigeria which are often denied our citizens all contribute to sell Nigerians too cheap. In this interaction, Nigerians must reject the terms of this exchange as it is no longer favorable. With all the calculated almost becoming a genocidal treatment on our immigrants, it is high time to defend the rights of the Nigerians abroad.

Any failure to heed this warning will be met with equal treatment to the citizens and establishment owed by these countries. Consequently, the South African government must quickly call to order this rascals glamorizing genocide as a trivia self-defense. Compensation to those hospitalized and family of deceased must be given. There is no need to set up any enquiry panel as this will prolong the granting of compensation and justice. Howbeit, culprits of this madness should be made to face appropriate penalty. This intervention deserves high priority, putting a permanent end to the series of xenophobic reactions coming from this region.

Christmas is a wonderful time of year to relax with family and rejoice with friends. It’s a holiday time to unwind but it’s usually filled with stress owing to the numerous activities. In order to enjoy it, it is important to take time to actually understand what the true meaning of the season is and plan ahead.

The birth of Christ is the reason for the season and it is symbolic of God’s gift to the world. In other word, God gave what he had. As you go about planning for the celebration it is important to remember this underlying truth and avoid over-spending.

One of the biggest stressors is how to allocate money to meet all the things you want to do. Therefore it is important to figure out how to make spending less of a financial burden even as we approach another Christmas. The clue is to spend from Christmas budget rather than borrowing or using other savings.

Secondly, you don’t have to buy items you already have at home just because you want to show off. Christmas is about a traditional and that means you can make use of those decorations you used the previous years.

You also need to have a list of presents you want to buy as and for whom. A good list will help you reduce any stress that may arise from additional need. This doesn’t mean that you cannot buy a few extra presents for unlisted guest. Gift sharing at Christmas time is more rewarding when your gift adds value to the receiver, so you may want to buy your presents based on your observable of over-heard needs of your guests.

Finally, add the cost of holiday extras, like phone calls, transportation, gate pass and ticket fees, money for charities, church, and the homeless to your budget.

Remember the true meaning of Christmas is Christ’s birth. It is better to spend more time and money on peace, goodwill, sharing and caring than on a shopping frenzy.

Planning properly, knowing what you want to buy, for whom and with added budget for extras can fight all the stresses for you and your loved ones.

The importance of establishing a good career have moved from a non-existing or subordinate priority to been the first. Those seeking a fulfilling and an interesting life, a financial independence and security, and even a qualitative personal relationship are finding the paying the price of building a career a worthwhile sacrifice.

No longer is it fashionable to rely on another person’s occupation and business ingenuity to guarantee you with a lifelong livelihood or of the things you need to materialise as a functional member of the human society. More than what existed before, the appreciation of innate skills is gaining acceptance alongside professional certification for most work descriptions. The diversification of work now is such that it involves everybody contributing to the whole exercise of meeting one needs or another.

In this broad appreciation, the notion of work is itself going through a reform. One of its noticeable characteristic is the structure; it is designed to accommodate those who are committed to building a career more than for those interested in contract and part-time jobs. In other words, people tent to relate with you in line with the type of services you can render. This is tending towards the line of job you are into and it is on this basis the career conscious individuals of today are building their relationships.

Chris Gardner’s story in the movie ‘the pursuit of happiness’ provides a vivid illustration on the importance of a good career. To be able to fit in, you must develop yourself by focusing on an aspect rather than aiming to be the jack of all. The era of ‘Mr. I Can Do All’ belongs to the wishful thinkers. Already, most of the known human field of activities have been broken down into say easy and manageable folios, operations, units and beats. Work in the realm of specialization is flexible, deploying both the know-how and the state-of-the-art technology that enables its operatives to lead a normal social life. Your job or work is the understanding you have about the human needs and wants around you and that you hope to meet with quality services.

Work conceived this way is no longer defined as just ‘getting a job’ or ‘going to work’. It is becoming clearer now that the work you do is what provides the substructure on which everything depends. It is by your contribution that you are known, that you build the network of dedicated clientele, build friends, sustain your family and for many other things. The notion of being the architect of your life comes handy here and I think it presupposes that you will make the right choice of what to do or become in life as well as establishing yourself as an authority in it. Once you accept this reality, it becomes easier to appreciate the primacy of a career. You have to be given to your endeavour until the same had revealed all of its secrets to you. This is what makes you outstanding and set you apart from every other competitor. It’s a level of vulnerability that ironically guarantees safety.

Another thing about a career is that, you are not limited by the walls. The dexterity of your functionality is not directly related to the number of office hours as before. Professionals can fix any problems via the net or through phone. The technology of this age has further enhanced the role of professionalism so much that as you become a master in one, you are also very well learned about its adjuncts. Work or jobs in the contract or part-time don’t make you a professional no matter how long you are in it. At best, you are only in the system for as long as your service is required. This is not so with a career. Even at the expiration of your deal with any client or organisation, you are still available to continue either on your own and providing rich functional services for another.

Career is a bold steps in the waters; you know it might drawn you but the risk of learning how to swim, or even of setting a new record for daring to try intrigues.

THE QUEST FOR THE GOLDEN AGE.

It is said, O Chivalrous One, that in the century before the last, there existed a place at nearly equal distance from the four corners of the earth. Heavens knows, I was never a party to the decision to be born a Nigerian. And sincerely, if the choice were to be made given all the expereinces that my few years had saw, wishing to be born elsewhere would have been the cheap choice. But not now. I have come too far to let go of my Nigeria. GreenWhiteGreen colour my thoughts and am stucked.

About some years ago, i watch everything almost crumbling down. It was as if...men, there is no hope for the future. But today....i sight with relief. So when i turn chances to ditch like all my pals, when i refuse to alter my age, and refuse to believe what is here in not enough to make me a functional human being in this world....it is now that i realise the depth of my love for my country. And that Cuban film.....'For Love Or Country' came to mind. Not that i am throwing stone against my folk who is elsewhere in the world. No. This is my own personal allegiance for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Since i dont have any outside experience to fall back on, what i have about Nigeria is rich enough to keep me loving her without cohesion from any uniformed authority figure. It is here; all my education, my relationships, my adventure, my dream of a better life...God knows i've never so wish for a better country than Nigeria....except for the Heavenly. Even when i got so offended by the system, my fight had been civil, exploring the best peaceful means to say my views. And even though it my Nigerian Dreams is yet to manifest....I know it will manisfest.

With faith in Christ Jesus, I know that my dreams and vissions of a better Nigeria will become real in my own lifetime. It must become real.

I love this nation.

The Faith To Doubt

Faith is believing; an assurance that you already have what you hope or is seeking right there in your hand. Yet sometimes, its like to get the better part of life, in the process of discontenting with the present or that which is not pleasing...we aactually exercise another form of faith.

I have been trying to think about it, it is actually imposible to move ahead except you doubt where you are. As the saying goes, a man who does not care about where he is canno tbe lost. If that is true, then it is ubtil you began exercise a kind of doubt...disbelieving the system, the persons, the process and so on before the better part of life is unfold. This is what i called the faith to doubt.

You live in world of uncertainty. The only sure hope is in God. And so, being human and subjected to all the influence of the elements and forces, one cannot but doubt if the daily experiences are really. Have you ever imagine the number of people dying daily. Though you may console that we are having more coming into the world. The question is the one that had been asked, what is here for them? With all the failed security measure that all human ingenuity have put in place oover the ages, it is baffling that we are yet to achieve close to anything called safety. Even the world most powerful nations and economy are not spared. The conclusion had been drawn long ago. Life is short and brutish. So doubting relief the tension of been disappointed when our believing in people, the system and all there are here failed.

Since we exercise doubt almost in proportion to having faith, it means that it is a gift. For no man can believe and have faith without first having doubt. Just as we use darkness to measure the intensity of light. Doubting is the yardstick use to measure the depth of a man's faith. For an example, it wasn't easy for me getting around driving. And even though i try harder to learn on my own so as to tell the tale of the conquest. One bitter example and am in company of a pal asking questions about what i dont know. That is it! You actually dont know everything. The need for education arouse on the doubt that our innate instinctual sense of knowing sometimes is not enough. With experiences, we are better able to cope with the doubt about this inadequacies.

Talking about the faith to doubt is because i have come to the point in my own experience where i am now persuaded that everything a man have is .....given. You dont have anything that is not given you. Haven't you heard people talked about their past- no matter how bad or good it is - as something needful for the future. If they had not been given the gift to doubt if there is an alternative to that episode, they probably would nothave stepped-out, and stepped into the light of their present realities. The faith to doubt is not because doubting is good. It is for you to drwn the comparison and learn the good tender education of the soul.

I thank God that sometimes He makes me doubt only to believe and have faith the more both in Him, in people as well as in the providence given to me.

Today my homegirl and co-worker, Hot 97 host Angie Martinez spoke to Akon about relationships. Akon, who recently released a single with Eminem, explained that as an African (Ak' is from a very prominent music family in Senegal) he believes in polygamy.

His father had four wives, all of whom he considers "Mom". It also turns out that Akon has taken up a Senegalese lifestyle here, because after a little hesitation, the singer-producer admitted that he has his own multi-monogamous household going down in the ATL!

VH1 is socially-irresponsible to put this on, not because of Akon, but the idea of polygamy in America on YOUTH is going to have serious ramifications. Someone needs to tell VH1 that there is something called AIDS. Can they even imagine Black youth going around with 3 or 4 girlfriends. This is sending the signal to YOUTH that it is somehow OK to live this way, couple it with problems that exist in our culture today and you have a toxic soup.

With outright garbage like this our struggle is put back several hundred years now. Instead of showing LOVE between TWO PEOPLE, they're showing YOUTH that it's somehow OK to love several women at a time. AIDS is very real y'all. With VH1 presenting this type of stuff, they may as well start injecting kids with hyperdermic needles. We don't need a conspiracy theory when it is RIGHT IN OUR FACE. A shame on American society that television shows are now PROMOTING AIDS INFECTIONS AMONG BLACK PEOPLE.

I know akons wife infact I went to school with her and she is a very intelligent person. Believe me if this was not the life style she wanted she would be back in SC. She was with him before all of his fame in the US, even went to africa with him. I know for a fact that she is the head lady and all the others are just seconds regardless to what he saids about all of them being treated equally.He has all of his 3 sons from her noone else. Hello, all, antoher issue for me is that he's equating "having multiple girlfriends" with the practice of polygamy, and it's not even the same thing. Yes, you are dealing with multiple women, but with "girlfriends" generally, you don't have any financial obligations to them, whereas with "wives", you're obligated to provide for them. Also, in the Miss Info report, Akon says thta he can "have as many wives as he can afford". I don't know what kind of Islam he learned and here he learned it, but the limit is four, says very clearly in the Qur'an that it is four. So I'd sure like to know who told him it could be "as many as he could afford", but maybe he forgot his Islam along the way, God alone knows best.

Another issue that's bothering me is on Wikipedia there's a huge discussion going on as to what Akon's "real" name is. On the Akon article, there's this long name, and there are Wolof speakers who are arguing that some of that name can't be his "real" name, becuase some of the "name", means "I wanna f*ck you", in Wolof, and they were pretty adamant that no way would his parents give him that name. But you also have others saying, "no, he's said in interviews that this is his real name". Now, assuming that it is not, and it's the "nasty expression" that some claim that it is, why on earth would he come over here and tell people that it is his real name, knowing full well that we'd never know the difference? Pretty deceptive to me! And I'm not exactly sure whether they guy has multiple wives, girlfriends, concubines, mistresses, or what have you, and we can't say that the whole show wasn't entirely scripted, as he mentioned that him and Angie Martinez tried to think of things to ge tthe covnersation going. So the whole thing was meant to be controversial. So first he's got wifey(s), now the latest is that he doesn't, and he's according to some, going around telling people that part of his name is a derogatory Wolof expression. I know Wolof speakers and I'm ashamed to even ask them if the expression "damala bouga time", means what some say it means, because they may be too embarrassed to answer me. And also, not all Afircans, or Muslims for that matter practice polygamy, not sure why he even said that. So he's generalizing Africans, Muslims, etc., and I don't like generalizations. It's all starting to seem like a publicity stunt, and just something to stir up gossip, and I can only imagine the trouble it coudl be causing him and his family. But anyway, anything to sell those records I guess. Subhanallah, not much more I could really say on this I guess.

Greetings all, as a Muslim, and a woman, too, I don't disagree with polygamy, in and of itself, and I don't disagree with Akon's decision (or not, depending on how you're reading his comments), however, here is what I have a problem with. How can you talk about polygamy being "your religion and culture", and talk about Islam, etc., yet your music or at least some of it, doesn't even reflect Muslim values? I mean, try playing "Smack Dat" or "I wanna F*ck You", after Jumua on Friday, and see what the imam says? It's like he wants to be all "muslim" and "Senegalese", when it suits him, but is it "Senealese culture" to talk about "smackin' dat", and calling women hoes, etc.? And sayin, "I wanna fuck you?" Oh come on now. He just wants to have his cake and eat it too and use it as an excuse. I know of so many Muslim men who do this! alk about "being a Msulim" when they want their four wives, yet forget all about Islam, when it comes to prayer, fasting, and general good character! Foul language, and talking about watching women gridning on those poles is not "Islamic". You ain't even supposed to be looking at women you ain't married to anyway! Youssou Ndour got more than one wife, but he ain't singing about "f*ckin" anyone or "you grinding on that pole", etc., as far as I know. So what's up with that? Perhaps Akon just said what he said to stir people up, but a lot of stuff has hit the an over it, and as a Muslim woman, who's heard his latest album, I'm appalled! It's one thing to sing the kind of stuff he does, but then to talk about "Islam" when he wants all of wome and use Islam to jsutify it? Oh whatever! As far as him "upholding the Ummah", eyah right! Whoever said that didn't listen to some of those songs on his CD. But anyway. The phrases, in I can't remember if it's the Qur'an or the hadith, which says that when news comes to you of an affair, one should investigat it, to dicover the veracity of what you're hearing, before you go spreading it around, so I hesitated on commenting, however when it's the very person starting the "rumor" that the "nes" is about, well, what do you do? And give her the respect and opportunity to be able to choose, 'Okay, this is the package that comes with him if I decide to deal with him.' Now, she can choose to do it or say, 'You know what, I'm glad he gave me the decision, I think I'll do without.'

How many women do you have?

That's too personal. I don't want to take it to a point where it's too far out there so if I was to go and constantly promote that, what does that do? If I was to go and promote this on every radio station, then it's gonna look like I'm out there promoting polygamy, when that's not the case. I'm just being real. I'm being honest as possible. I've always been that kind of person. But when I get to a point where I feel like it's destroying other people's lives, then it's a responsibility I got to contain. I have other friends that do believe in that, and it's affecting their families now. I don't want it to be, like, where Africans are even looking at me in a different way. 'Cause if I'm speaking on behalf of them, and I'm misrepresenting them, and they're my biggest supporters, the last thing I want to do is lose the respect of Africans. So I must apologize for speaking on behalf of certain situations where it might have come out wrong. But you know that's a part of the media. It happens. At the end of the day, I would like to clear up a situation. I should have never brought that out in the public, because it ended up being a big big issue.

So why did you bring it up?

It felt good at the moment. It was like, you know, I was gonna give them something to talk about. It opened up the discussion. It opened up a door that normally wouldn't have been open for people just to communicate. So that was the main purpose.
Everybody is doing it. You know how many dudes got mad women? Honestly, as men sometimes, we can be selfish.

So now, what if a woman said something like that, if that was her position?

Like some said, many Africans are monogamous, my father is one of them. My parents after 30 years of marriage are still together. But I could not guarantee that my parents have been faithful throughout, who can but themselves.

He never made a general statement about all africans. I don't agree or disagree I'm just stating what I heard during the interview.

There are two or more to share the housework, the cooking, the childcare, freeing each one to have more time to herself to pursue independent goals and objectives. Women are as free as they choose to speak their minds. If women are kept silent, that is the problem of the individuals involved, women as well as men, not the form of marriage. Exploitation and subjugation may occur in some situations, but that also occurs in monogamous marriages. The form of marriage is not the problem - the individuals involved in the marriage and their attitudes are the problem. A polygamous marriage based on Biblical truths and precepts, as all marriages should be, should meet the same standards as any monogamous marriage. Husbands should love their wives, and wives should be obedient & submissive to their husbands, based on Biblical principles.

To those who would argue that polygamy makes women dependent, I would say from experience that just the opposite is true. A woman married to a man with other wives is forced to have a very strong sense of who she is, what she's doing, and why she is doing it, and must maintain her own sense of identity. Her identity cannot be wrapped up in her husband's identity, the way many women in monogamous marriages become, simply because her husband isn't always there. And for an independent woman, that's one of the advantages. There is free time and energy to spend as one chooses. There is a built-in set of companions and friends for fellowship, for sharing work as well as play, and for help and caring. God brings people together in a family for reasons that are beneficial to each person-and so out of every relationship in the family we can learn and grow.

Polygamy is not for everyone. As long as every individual gets the time, energy, caring and compassion he or she requires, what is the problem with a man having more than one wife? As our society has encouraged women to make independent choices, and individuals to fulfill their own unique potential, if a woman chooses polygamy, does anyone have the right to tell her she cannot make that choice? Abuse and exploitation should not be tolerated, as they should not be tolerated anywhere in our society. Polygamy is not abuse. It is a lifestyle ordained by God for some people.

Examine the Bible. There is nowhere that polygamy is preached against. It was not only common in the Old Testament; it was a common practice in Jewish culture at the time of Christ. Monogamy was only brought to the Jewish world by Roman civilization (which was widely known as being morally corrupt with slavery, endless war, barbaric entertainment, & sexual orgies), which. Yet if such a common practice was wrong, why did Christ not preach against it, as He did against all the other wrongs of His day? Polygamy is not for everyone. But for some it is God's calling and God's special blessing. It must be based on Gods core principles and lived in obedience to God's will, as any monogamous marriage must be. It certainly has its problems and pitfalls, as does any marriage particularly when it is not a lifestyle that we are trained in this culture to live. It is a lifestyle that provides much love, fellowship, support and growth in one's walk with the Lord. To those whom God has called, it is a special treasure.

Benefits For Women

Automatic childcare in a sexist society gives women more effective choice to have a career without devaluing the role of homemaker.

Being able to marry men who are already married means that women can marry men who have already proved themselves, therefore minimizing their risk.

Being able to marry the men who attract most women means they don't have to settle just for what's left after other women have the best pickings.

Having the possibility that a husband can remarry without divorce extends practical security to a woman. She needn't worry about losing her husband and income as she loses her looks, because if her husband is attracted by a younger woman, he doesn't even have to think about leaving his wife.

Polygamy removes the pressure on a husband to commit adultery, and removes damaging deceit from a marriage.

Polygamy provides a method where a woman can have a female friend for life as well as a husband.

Polygamy therefore provides more people and a better chance of meeting diverse needs.

Polygamy provides a potential for at least three adult incomes, reducing state dependence and the fear of unemployment.

Controls Placed On Men

If a man wants to have another sexual partner in a polygamous system then he has to meet his responsibilities - pay for any children produced from all his relationships without priority being given to those from a 'legal' relationship.

Polygamy removes or reduces the seduction of innocent young women - If a man promises to marry her, he cannot use his existing marriage as an excuse for not fulfilling a promise.

Polygamy reduces the number of women who are available. Currently, with more women than men, this 'cheapens' women. With less women available their 'value' goes up. In other words, polygamy makes men have to try harder and do better with women if they are to win them in competition with other men.

Where Akon is from (SENEGAL - which is just one country out of the 52 countries in Africa), many of them are muslim illiterates whose mentality and thinking are just as his. I'm from Ghana born and raised I have lived or visited 3 to 4 West African countries I know of only two men (and i'm only talking about my father's generation which should be the same as Akon's father) who have 2 wives and not more and they don't even live in the same house with each other AND those men ARE muslim and according to their laws they are allowed up to 4... So you can imagine how "acceptable" polygamy is among my father's peers let's not even begin to talk about my peers (I fall in the 28-35 range) my friends happily have their plates full with ONE single woman... Certain opportunities now available to this generation exceed our fore parent’s wildest dreams. Advancement and breakthroughs in varies human endeavours has opened new frontier of achievement and power. It also offers unlimited possibilities for generations to follow. One would think that perhaps homes as the smallest unit of the human society ought to be better for it. However, a reflection on the state of our homes is giving no indication of a happy ending. A whole new set of environment and cultural pressure never imagined a generation ago is already waging war on would be future of our society. The time to confront it is now.

There is no doubt that mankind have gone a little well above average at unlocking the potential of the natural earth. Amazing evidences abounds in our homes and we pride ourselves about these gadgets almost in everything. Immediately man perfect space landing, steps on the moon, conceived the possibility of cloning his kind, the next things was a desire to live in another planet. Almost everything imaginable is possible this day with technology. Modern tools in homes enable cross-continental communications with friends. You don’t have to travel to the Kenya; the culture in its full colour is free and accessible at any internet terminal. The speed at which this is impacting our cultural essence is yet to be valued. But we all know online contact don’t gratifies as would warm embrace. And neither would phone voices nor webcam smile replace it. The warmth in an embrace lies an inch away, when eyes meet eyes, and voice meets voice, and bodies’ touches the other.

We are plagued by an onslaught of abhorrent media images, substandard education and a growing insecurity in the system. Obsession with sex and materialism is the order. At some point, I got tired of television viewing or listening to radio. Their programmes are too shallow. Most of the footage paraded foreign culture that keep eroding our cherished heritage. What’s more disheartening is that these are the one that get sponsored. Radio and TV stations are falling for the cheap way of surviving instead of investing in qualitative developmental programmes. Just about anybody can present radio or TV programmes; all you need is a three months tutorial in relationship mantras, a couple of online browsing to familiarize with goings-on in the entertainment industry and, you are on air presenting. It is that cheap. Ironically, what’s been served is the same ‘sacrilegious’ stuffs that our moral and religious institutions have been condemning. Even the churches are buying these lies of overt sexism and materialism. I hate to think that we have lost it. Our society is under siege; the battle ground is nowhere but our home. The evidence is out there. If you want to know how sold-out we are, go to the schools; universities are the worst culprit. It’s in the name of fashion; being in vogue that our girls are happily walking the street with no cloths on. Worst still, it’s becoming fashionable for boys too to show off their pants. Children walking around in tattered cloths used to be a sign of poverty in my green days. Now it’s the freakiest fashion statement around. And I wonder what legacy is there to be left for posterity. Perhaps, a return to the Stone Age will pacify this lustful penchant.

A persistent fragmentation of families have placed additional emotional burdens on too many of our children, girls as well as boys, who never know dedicated adult attention during their critical coming of age. Critics will be quick to say this is what is obtainable elsewhere. Lest you forget, our society is yet to match the advancement in those nations. When we do, what becomes of us? Parents rush out too early and returns home too late to provide any warmth or care. Schools curricular are too fractionized to redress the influx of myriads exposure wagging war on homes. The religious institutions are getting too spiritual for the younger generation. And then, the accusing finger is pointed: lack of good leader, good policy, policy implementation, unemployment, bad economy, marriage break ups and the entire list.

A decent into chaos is imminent if something is not done and quickly. Hundreds of our youths are passing through the motion of neglect and we dare to call them ‘social miscreants’. Campus vices already match in intensity with organized crimes. The implication for us is gross; we have a neglected generation unprepared to win against the negative societal influences that stream their way into the frontier. For goodness’ sake, do we somebody to preach this gospel to us that things are not right? I said, the reason we have lots of youth struggling it out with overnight browsing in cybercafé is because the home security in not there. These menaces have their roots in the failure of the homes to provide and care. When there are too many ill-equipped parents in the system, what are we to expect from their offspring? Survival instinct is bound to push any children to the street. Some parents don’t even care anymore and those who do don’t have a say.

Quite frankly, many of our children are truly amazing. They are blessed with options and opportunities to shine and to mature into happy and whole adults. Yet – and this is where the war comes in – they must make their way in an environment and culture overwrought with explicit sex, violence materialism and insecurity of life. The depiction of women in the media are simply too trashy, too dumb, too demeaning. Timely sex education is good and needful to prepare the mind and body for greater success. But this deafening noise about the use of condom is passing a wrong signal. Again, an epidemic of fragile families and absent parents, with ever-present needs, puts many of our children (girls especially) at risk of becoming a victims rather than victors in life. There is a clarion call on all the managers of home to put more effort in their task of nurturing the individual for positive social contribution. This appeal can fall on deaf ear if its not sounded and supported by the all the social institutions responsible. The thought about the future is a concern for the people of the present because it belongs to our children and their children’s children.

Apart from discursion on money and how to make or spend it, the next topic in the line is sex. The talk about sex especially for the young at heart is borne out of curiosity; either to know the why of male and female physiology or to providing answers to our body’s stimulus when the changes are traceable to the presence of or contact with the opposite sex. This new turn of mind is a part of the natural process of the human growth.

Sex is far from everything the definition of love is meant to be. To say that it is a way of showing love between two consented adult of opposite sexes would be right. Yet in both the physical and spiritual realms, sexual intercourse between sexes has a much stronger appeal and power than one can imagine. Nations and society have laws specifying who is an adult and under what condition a sexual act can be accepted as legal to curtail pre-marital sex. This notwithstanding does not remove sex from being a spontaneous response to sexual appeals or thoughts. This is obvious in the ever increasing number of premarital sex and which is further noised by the campaign for the use of condoms.

The association of sex with love is owing to the fact that both have to do with our emotions and feelings. And depending on what are your intentions for wanting the other person. People are in the error of this association of sex with love because their intention is either wrong from the beginning or they are pushed to accept sex as love. Yes, the fear of rejection is strong enough to make one not wanting to give in to sex (either with or without condoms) except for victims of rape. Ladies seduce the man and the man entices the ladies all in a bid to outwit; and sex is usually the price. Relationship you must understand is based on knowledge than of getting down the pants. Though individual are at liberty, the warning line is to stay away from unprotected sex. And ‘unprotected’ does not only mean the act done without condom. If good morality is to be thought, it should include the act done with someone who open arms promise no lasting warmth – an unprotected relationship.

The need for a productive talk about sex between two marriage-intended opposite sexes is welcome. With a whole bouquet of STIs swarming around, informed knowledge about partners past sexual life as well as future fantasies must not be a secret. A man or woman who will not accept your fears or belief and see reasons with you for not having sex with or without condom is not worth having. Let’s just say a few minutes of pleasure are not worth throwing your life away to experience, you know. It is the same one encounter it takes to get pleasure that is need for the virus to overtake its victims. Youths are most sexually active and so formed the majority percentage of the victims. One major way of getting a long lasting relationship is through communication. People are generally comfortable to talk about everything else, likes, and dislikes, favorite food and music. Nothing is as satisfying as knowing that your partner is free, or if he/she is negative, is making effort of staying that way. A good sex education as part of the pre-marriage planning helps couples to derive maximum dividends than when they are ignorant of each other’s or their status. As a lady, you have a responsibility to take charge of your life, because if you give the wrong man a ride, he may as well always want to drive. Men naturally are moved by what they see; some of them use the thing ‘down below’ to think rather than with their head. So when everything is still sweet, when he calls every seconds, sends recharge cards and takes you out, that is the right time for a good girl to make the ground rules and not when you are on his bed. That’s a point of no return.

In conclusion, I would want to say, it is the way you handle your things people around you would too. If you turn your clothes to a rag, you will see a lot of people that will help you use it to mop the floor. If you want to be treated like a princess, ladies, you have to act like one. By the same token, if you are serious with your life, openness to discuss sex as part of the bigger discursion from the beginning of your relationship will set the right pace for how long it would last. It is all about self worth, you truly have to love yourself to do things that will keep you away from harm hurts. Finally, abstinence is the best bet. Did I hear a yes?
