Tutorial: Fix a Too Small Head Hole

My kiddos have nice round noggins. Think 98th percentile round :)

As cute as those heads are sometimes I just can't get tees over the head and if it's a Disney princess tee that means a lot of sadness. So I took 10 minutes and fixed it.

Anne was very appreciative :)

And yes I did this project last fall...I'm a bit behind in my blogging

Tutorial: Simple Nursing Cover

To go along with the contoured burp cloths I made a simple nursing cover. This is such a great gift for a new mom and definitely an essential in my book. Of course you'll want to make sure she's planning to bf :)

I've seen some cute ruffled ones, but I personally prefer something as simple as possible so it's not taking up extra space in the diaper bag and/or drawing even more attention to you as you're trying to discreetly nurse.

I added in some boning along the neckline so the cover stands away from your body a bit making it easier to check on the baby and give them a bit more room under the cover.

And just for fun I added a little pocket in one corner for holding binkies, nursing pads, etc.

To complete my gift I made her the Does It All Diaper Bag

With a matching diaper clutch. Now she's ready for anything!

My go-to baby gift is burp cloths. They are quick and easy to sew and in my opinion you can never have too many :) Even though my kids are no long in the spit-up phase (thankfully!) I still keep a couple of these in my diaper bag for wiping up spills and cleaning messy hands and faces.

Monkey Party

Last month our little monkey turned 1!

We kept our party super simple since it was just a family party. 1st stop was the Dollar Tree to decide on a theme. After talking Anne out of princess we went with jungle. I picked up cups, plates, napkins, party hats, and party blowers and then laid down some fun fabric with the same colors to cover our card table since I forgot to grab a table cloth.

To go with our jungle theme I made monkey cupcakes! These were seriously so easy and turned out really cute. For the face you use Nilla Wafers, Mini Nilla Wafers, decorating gel and chocolate chips.

I bet you can tell which face Anne decorated :)

To jazz up his high chair a bit I just added a few streamers

The verdict from the birthday boy...

It was a big hit!

Tutorial: The Maxi Skirt

I LOVE maxi skirts! So incredibly comfortable but you can still look put together

Big thanks to my little sister for modeling!

I gave her this skirt for Christmas (I know I'm a bit behind blogging...) and one to my older sister who was pregnant. These skirts work for everyone!

Want to make your own???

These are so incredibly easy I didn't even take photos but I do have a step by step for you:

1. Let's cut our pieces:

Waistband: For a finished band height of 6" cut your piece to 13" tall. For a size small I cut 2 waistband pieces to 15" wide. I used 1/2" seam allowances. Measure yourself wear you want the bottom edge of the waistband to hit (generally on your hips) and subtract 2-3" to calculate your waistband width
Skirt: Measure your desired length (you may want a helper) and add 1" for seam allowances and hemming. If in doubt error on the long side. My skirt was 30" wide across the bottom and 15" at the top (same width as the waistband piece).
Make sure you cut all pieces so they will stretch around your body

2. With right sides together sew up the side seams of the skirt and the waistband.

3. Roll the waistband over so the seam is enclosed and you have a double thickness tube.

4. Slide the waistband over the skirt so it's on the right side of the skirt and the raw edges are together. Sew together using a serger or zig-zag stitch. I like to include some 1/4" elastic in this seam for extra stability.

5. Hem and enjoy!
