One of the most historically significant sites in Indiana, Crown Hill is the burial site of such famous people as: President Benjamin Harrison, Colonel Eli Lilly, eleven Indiana Governors, one Kentucky Governor, fourteen Indiana Mayors, thirteen Civil War Generals, poet James Whitcomb Riley, author Booth Tarkington, automobile manufacturer Frederick Duesenberg, and the infamous bank robber John Dillinger. On the cemetery grounds you will find a National Cemetery dedicated to those who served our country, there is also a Confederate lot on the cemetery’s south grounds. The Hill in Crown Hill Cemetery is the highest point in Indianapolis; the downtown skyline can be seen clearly from the top.

The Scottish Rite Cathedral

The main tower rises 212 feet and contains a 54-bell carillon. The Scottish Rite is an appendant body of the Masonic Fraternity chartered in Indianapolis in 1865.

Orchid Show at the Garfield Park Conservatory

(62 photos) Central Indiana Orchid Society presented its annual Orchid Show, displaying along with other societies from across the Midwest orchid exhibits throughout the Conservatory on April 18th and 19th, 2009. GARFIELD PARK CONSERVATORY is located within the 136 acre Garfield Park, on Indianapolis’ near south side. The Sunken Garden includes three acres of European classical formal gardens. The garden’s graceful historic fountains, paved walkways and benches throughout the landscape, make it a gorgeous and relaxing retreat from citylife. The gardens are planted with three different seasonal displays a year.

(11 photos) An Indianapolis Public Schools Police Officer had a rather serious wreck on College Avenue April 1st, 2009. He lost control of the car after having a medical emergency. Police and Emergency Services personnel worked diligently to free the officer from the car - lots of hard working folks doing their job there.

The officer was reported in serious condition but did not have life-threatening injuries, according to the report by the Indy Star.
