So the Baltimore Sun lashes out at a state delegate who issues a statement about black youth mobs roving around downtown Baltimore, civil rights leaders and politically correct officials lashes out at him as well. Then comes this story where the Sun buries the lead.

A 19-year-old student from Baltimore Polytechnic High School told police he was beaten by two separate groups of juveniles from a rival school in downtown Baltimore on Thursday afternoon, an attack that comes amid a pitched debate over downtown safety. According to police, the student was walking in the 200 block of W. Fayette St., a block north of the First Mariner Arena, before 4:20 p.m. when he said he was attacked from behind by an unknown male.

Nine other juveniles joined in as he tried to defend himself, and his phone was taken during the attack, he told police. Moments later, police say, an MTA bus stopped in the block and a juvenile male wearing a Digital Harbor High School shirt "forced open the door and got off the bus," followed by 19 other juveniles wearing Digital Harbor shirts, who again assaulted the victim, police said. Anthony Guglielmi, a city police spokesman, said the victim told the police he was attacked because of a rivalry between the two schools. Guglielmi said police were coordinating with school officials to investigate the case.

The Sun reported last week that police dispatch tapes revealed a broader disturbance downtown onSt. Patrick's Daythan police had let on, and some questioned whether police had been forthcoming initially about the scope of the incident. The tapes showed police struggled to contain large groups of young people moving throughout the downtown area.

Also that night, a Virginia man was beaten and stripped of his clothing near the downtown courthouse, an attack that was caught on tape and garnered national attention. The racial elements of that crime fed much of the outrage - the victim was white, and the attackers were all black. In Thursday's reported assault, Guglielmi said the 19-year-old victim was white and the attackers were all juvenile black males.

Basically the public right to know that downtown Baltimore is a pit toilet is not something the cops or city officials care to tell them.

On Saturday night, Denise Kostka and her husband, disturbed by loud voices, peered out from their eighth-floor room in the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel and saw at least 100 teens massing on the street below. "I never saw anything like that, ever," said Kostka, visiting from Springfield, N.J., to take in the sights and see her niece who lives in Federal Hill. Then they saw police surround a car. "I thought, 'Oh my God, it's "COPS" live,'" Kostka said, referring to the popular reality television show. Baltimore police have for years combated youths descending on downtown, causing fights and other trouble, and have employed the same strategy: push them out without resorting to mass arrests, just as they did Saturday night.

At the same time, police have battled a perception of Baltimore being ravaged by crime — even as crime rates have declined. ....Authorities have to strike a careful balance of how much to divulge to the public to ensure people are safe without unnecessarily frightening them, said Lt. Col. Michael J. Andrew, who retired last year after 38 years on the city force. "If the average person sees one police car, he's concerned. ... If they see a group of kids, they panic," Andrew said. "But police have to talk intelligently and honestly. They don't have to tell the public they had it under control, because they obviously didn't on St. Patrick's Day." "I'm not saying you have to push the panic button and say Baltimore is out of control," he added. "If you overreact, you scare people to death, and then what have you accomplished?"

Kostka said she worried when she saw no media reports on what she had seen on Saturday. "It was awfully scary," she said. Police said there were no crimes to report outside Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel that night. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said police were trying to disperse the teen crowds and encourage them to leave downtown. Another police spokesman gave a similar account of what happened on the night of March 17.

But as The Baltimore Sun reported, another description emerged from police dispatch tapes. Obtained through a Maryland Public Information Act request, the tapes show that on St. Patrick's Day as night fell, police struggled for hours to round up the youths in downtown, the Inner Harbor and Mount Vernon.

Police called in reinforcements from throughout the city to contain the mob and move people out of the harbor area, all while dealing with more than a dozen clashes between youths from the east and west sides. An officer had to use a Taser to subdue one youth, and 10 arrests were made. For more than two hours, waves of teens roamed through downtown as officers blocked off streets.

Police played down the events to reporters even as they unfolded. And when asked questions in the following days, police discussed one stabbing and the Tasing and noted a large number of people. The police commander on the scene that night declined to be interviewed, and on Monday Guglielmi said the police commissioner would not be available for an interview.

A question was asked on Thursday’s Question Time about whether or not this latest incident was evidence of a cultural problem with Pakistani and Afghan Muslims emigrating to the UK. The entire panel, as well as many members of the audience tried to blame society at large instead, or say that it had nothing to do with race or culture (even though the defendants and the convicting judge made it clear that they viewed white girls as lesser beings and viable targets), and tried to say any talk of a cultural problem was racist. There was even a vicar who tried to blame the girls themselves for being too willing to give up their innocence.

It happened four blocks from where they work, here at The Virginian-Pilot. Two weeks have passed since reporters Dave Forster and Marjon Rostami - friends to me and many others at the newspaper - were attacked on a Saturday night as they drove home from a show at the Attucks Theatre. They had stopped at a red light, in a crowd of at least 100 young people walking on the sidewalk. Rostami locked her car door. Someone threw a rock at her window. Forster got out to confront the rock-thrower, and that's when the beating began.

Police spokesman Chris Amos said officers often respond to reports of crowds fighting; sirens are usually enough to disperse the group. On that night, he said, a report of gunfire in a nearby neighborhood prompted the officer to decide getting Forster and Rostami off the street quickly made more sense than remaining at the intersection. The officer gave them his card and told them to call later to file a report.

The next day, Forster searched Twitter for mention of the attack. One post chilled him. "I feel for the white man who got beat up at the light," wrote one person. "I don't," wrote another, indicating laughter. "(do it for trayvon martin)" Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teen, died after being shot by a community watch captain with white and Hispanic parents, George Zimmerman, in Florida. Forster and Rostami, both white, suffered a beating at the hands of a crowd of black teenagers. Was either case racially motivated?

Senate Democrats are planning a new ploy to put Mitt Romney and Republicans on the defensive with female voters. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will bring to the floor in coming weeks legislation to protect women from retaliation by employers if they inquire about salaries paid to male colleagues. Republicans voted in unison to block the bill, the Paycheck Fairness Act, when it came to the floor in November of 2010. Democrats say it will be difficult for GOP senators to back out of their opposition, especially because the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has staunchly opposed the legislation. Mitt Romney will either have to split with Republicans and an important business group or take a position that could further erode his support among women. "Romney's going to be on defense on the Paycheck Fairness Act," said a senior Democratic aide. "Women are making 70 cents on a dollar of what a man is making. This will resonate with females across the spectrum. If Republicans to a person are coming down against it, it will be at their political peril," the aide said. The bill would prohibit employer discrimination for inquiring about, discussing or disclosing the wages of another employee. It would expand the definition of wage discrimination by allowing employees to compare the pay of male colleagues not only within the same office but also with colleagues in other local offices. A female employee could allege wage discrimination if she is paid less than a male working the same job for the same employer across town.

As Mr. Rhymes would say, here's the scenario: On Sunday, Lana Massey decided to surprise her 8-year-old son, a Lego fanatic, with a trip to Legoland. The tattoo in question, which is pictured above, is definitely attention-grabbing. But Massey says the ink is original artwork from the 1940s. "No more offensive than zombie Jesus or guns promoting violence," she says. "Aside from any of that, there is nothing about tattoos in their policies, just inappropriate clothing. ... The U.S. Justice Department sued Jacksonville on Monday over promotion tests that federal lawyers said discriminated against black firefighters. "This complaint should send a clear message ... that employment practices that have the effect of excluding qualified candidates on account of race will not be tolerated," said a statement from Thomas Perez, an assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division. "At best, these tests measure only a slice of what is necessary to be a supervisor, but they stand in the way of qualified African-Americans advancing in the fire department," he said. "The Justice Department will take all necessary action to ensure that such discriminatory practices are eliminated and that the victims of such practices are made whole." In announcing the suit, Justice officials said there were two elements of concern. First, black firefighters "pass the examinations at significantly lower rates than white candidates," an announcement about the case said. Secondly, because "African-American candidates score significantly lower than whites," the announcement said, few of those who pass the test are actually promoted.

If the black candidates are passing the same tests at a much lower rate than whites then maybe you should ask yourself why instead of making black people look like morons who can't pass a test at a high score.

A tip to Crimeline has led to the arrests of two men in a brutal beating that occurred a week ago in the Midway community east of Sanford.

Julius Ricardo Bender, 18, and Yahaziel Isaac Israel, 19, face charges of attempted first-degree murder, burglary with assault or battery and armed burglary

The victim, a 50-year-old Winter Springs man whose name has not been released, is on life-support at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Deputies were called to the area of Lincoln Street and Beardall Avenue about 6:30 p.m. March 26 to investigate a report of a man being beaten, Seminole County Sheriff's spokeswoman Heather Smith said.

They found the victim in the woods on the north side of Lincoln Street.

According to arrest affidavits:

A witness told deputies he heard someone screaming for help and saw two men pull the victim from his vehicle. He said he watched as one man held the victim and the other beat him in the head with a hammer.

After they dragged the victim into the woods, the men drove away in his sport utility vehicle, which was later found abandoned about a half-mile away on Garbo Jack Lane.

The police chief of Tulsa, Oklahoma, offered a stern, succinct message Saturday to the man he believes killed three people and critically wounded two others in a spate of seemingly random shootings: "We're coming for you."

Chief Chuck Jordan described the shootings at four separate sites -- all of which occurred early Friday within two to three miles of each other -- as "vicious and cowardly attacks."

A survivor described the suspect as a white man, driving an "older" white pickup truck, according to Jordan. Police Capt. Jonathan Brooks told CNN that such a truck had been spotted at at least three of the shooting sites, around that time.

Still, Jordan indicated authorities do not know the identity of the shooter. He added, too, that a basic description of a white man driving a white truck "alone probably accounts for 50,000 people in the city of Tulsa."

Authorities in Oklahoma arrested two people early Sunday in connection with a deadly spate of apparently random shootings in Tulsa that have had residents on edge.

About 30 representatives from four law enforcement agencies -- the Tulsa police, Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Marshals Service and the FBI -- had been working around the clock looking for the person that authorities say killed three people and wounded two others in shooting attacks early Friday.

The police identified the arrested men as Jake England, 19, and Alvin Watts, 32. They were taken into custody from a home in Tulsa.

"We're not exactly sure what their relationship is to another, whether they are friends or extended family members," said Capt. Jonathan Brooks.

Miami Beach Police will also have the option of closing the eastbound lanes of the MacArthur Causeway if traffic gets out of control.

The department is also spending $1.5 million in overtime for off-duty officers.

City leaders are hoping to avoid a repeat of last year's Urban Beach Weekend when police shot and killed one man and wounded four others.

Graza told the media, “a bunch of kids made a poor decision, but we can’t ignore it. Our community is fed up.” It also appears Garza assumed the authority to speak for the “community”.

Garza and other SAISD officials should teach kids that bad things happen, and you can and should control your own personal behavior. Racism, adultery, stealing, lying, and all other forms of bad behavior have consequences. More important, Garza and others should teach Hispanic students not to see themselves as victims.

Then there is the issue of how the media reported this incident. When the story broke on Sunday evening, the reports gave the impression that all Heights students were guilty of chanting. Furthermore, no Heights students were interviewed to give their version of the events. It appears some Edison students were chanting “Alamo Whites”, however that was not reported. The unfortunate portrayal that was given by the media was that of “mean racist whites against poor victimized Hispanics.”

She has been pushing for mandated coverage of contraceptives at Georgetown for at least three years according to the Washington Post.
However, as I discovered today, birth control is not all that Ms. Fluke believes private health insurance must cover. She also, apparently, believes that it is discrimination deserving of legal action if “gender reassignment” surgeries are not covered by employer provided health insurance. She makes these views clear in an article she co-edited with Karen Hu in the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law.

Sponsors and supporters of many drug testing bills say the rules are intended to help people stay healthy, avoid substance abuse problems and eliminate fraud.

Opposition has already begun. In Florida, the ACLU is challenging a law passed last year that requires drug testing of welfare recipients. Jason Williamson, an attorney in the organization's Criminal Law Reform Project, said the ACLU is "against any kind of suspicionless drug testing of any population."

He says such laws unfairly stigmatize people receiving public assistance and could lead governments down a "slippery slope" where other recipients of government dollars such as college students, veterans and contractors could be subject to drug testing or other screening.

I have no problem with this if it applies to everyone. You get tax dollars, you are subject to intense scrutiny.

A Wauwatosa judge says there will be no criminal charges for a Shorewood teen accused of giving birth in her bathtub and burying her baby in the back yard.

WISN reports the 16-year-old was about six months pregnant but hadn't told anyone when she gave birth in her bathtub last August.

The girl's mother discovered the baby a month later, wrapped in four bags and buried.

The girl told police the baby was stillborn.

At a hearing Monday, children's court Judge Karen Christenson says there was no definitive testimony about whether the baby was born dead or alive.

Lamar Smith is not pleased with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) recently released Performance-Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS).

In the spirit of detention reform, in 2011, for the first time since 2008, ICE finished its revision of detention standards for those being held for being in the country illegally. Those new standards were released this month. ICE has already started to implement the changes.

“PBNDS 2011 is crafted to improve medical and mental health services, increase access to legal services and religious opportunities, improve communication with detainees with limited English proficiency, improve the process for reporting and responding to complaints, reinforce protections against sexual abuse and assault, and increase recreation and visitation,” an ICE representative explained in its PBNDS fact sheet.

One of Bollinger’s questions concerned the United States Supreme Court’s decision earlier this week to reconsider affirmative action. Bollinger was involved in defending affirmative action when the court declared it constitutional in a landmark 2003 case, and he said on Thursday that the court’s decision to revisit the issue is “ominous.”

Holder expressed support for affirmative action, saying that he “can’t actually imagine a time in which the need for more diversity would ever cease.”

“Affirmative action has been an issue since segregation practices,” Holder said. “The question is not when does it end, but when does it begin ... When do people of color truly get the benefits to which they are entitled?”

So the attorney general of the United States cheers on a welfare system that will go on forever because people of color are entitled to "benefits"
