It’s Good to Have a Plan

In a previous post, I mentioned an upcoming album cover for Austin-based singer / songwriter Jeff Roy. His album, “My Retirement Plan” is now released and the images below are my contribution to that project. A change in theme from the art in the previous post came about when we had the opportunity to do a photo shoot at Luck, Texas on Willie Nelson’s ranch. Luck is the western-town movie set from the filming of Honeysuckle Rose in 1980. From those elements I created the composite images for the panels, along with a more theme-centered logo that will get some re-purposing on the merchandise side. This is a really good recording featuring a strong performance by the artist. My goal here was to create artwork that would approach the quality of the content. Hopefully I got close. My clients seemed to be pretty happy with it, which made it a pleasurable project all around. I hope you enjoy the images.

The folks at CDMaker.com did the production work on the physical discs. Great folks to work with. I highly recommend them for any CD production needs you may have in the future.

Rollin’ the Rocks

I figured a Casino theme was appropriate for this Austin-based Singer Songwriter. A wordsmith and tune-mason, his rock-solid “Texas Music” performances are sure to pack the house and leave the crowds wowed. His Double r Nothin’ project supports him in varying permutations. The only gamble here is in the group’s name, everyone in attendance comes away a winner.

Look for a CD release in spring of 2015. It’s guaranteed to make more splash than a wakeboard on Lake Travis.

Polar Shift

Okay, I know that my local contemporaries will be quick to hate on my having shifted the Earth’s axis to accommodate the preferred light source in my backdrop. I could have just claimed it as the glowing din of some frat house rave. But hey, what’s a few degrees among friends? I’m writing it off to just a wee bit of artistic license. Said license similarly including but not limited to – a sudden drop in weight and all around physical buffing of the musicianal subjects, especially yours truly, my indiscriminate use of ancillary light sources, and we’ll lob on a liberal dose of re-defining our planet’s curvature, just for good measure.

This piece is a little nod to the Saturday mornings of my childhood with a smather of Austin lore. And yes, we kept the Mystery Machine parked just out of frame to avoid any legal entanglements. I’ll simply say thanks to Mr. Hanna and Mr. Barbera for the inspiration and the opportunity to immortalize some fine local entertainers in cartoon form. Stay tuned for further adventures.

Jam Critters

Above is a group of fun loving creatures that live to entertain and amuse. Off the Grid is a Austin based Polka and Variety band that regularly sweeps Central Texas crowds off their feet. Usually a good thing, but if you catch one of their many shows on the San Antonio Riverwalk, you may want to pack swimgear. I actually hope you have a better experience. The Riverwalk is not generally a swim-friendly locale.

Below is the band a’la reale’. A great bunch of guys that know how to produce a good time. And I can promise that if you catch one of their shows wherever you can, their assembly of unique instrumentation and diverse repertoire will inspire you to schatze and boogie till the break of dawn. Prost, Y’all!

Good Karma – Gets Great Mileage

Here’s a look at the cover art I recently completed for the “Addiction” CD by the band Good Karma. This was a challenging project, but really enjoyable. They had a very clear concept of what they wanted, which made the process flow really well. The folks at CDMaker.com took the artwork on to it’s physical form. The result was a truly beautiful package. Great folks to work with. I highly recommend them for any CD production needs you may have in the future.

Oh, and give Good Karma a listen on Band Camp.com. Truly a most righteous band. They be rockin’ the phat jams.

A Laugh a Minute

Actually, the folks all pictured here are hoping to net a better ratio than the title would suggest. But it is Texas and sometimes that drawl can stem the tide a bit. This might lend itself to giving any northern natives on the bill a false sense of advantage. Except that Texans are just naturally funny. Anybody in doubt has little further to look than our politics. Okay, fine then – perhaps I’ll just keep my day job and stick to the graphics. I hope you enjoy the eye-candy.
