Dave and I recently visited Guadeloupe, the French island in the Caribbean.

We went with our good friends Barb and Geebo Church.

We rented a beautiful house high on a hill overlooking Grand Anse beach and the town of Deshaies.  We first got interested in the island from watching "Death in Paradise", the BBC murder mystery.  It's filmed on Guadeloupe.

We spent lots of time at our house, enjoying the pool, the view and the windy heat, and delicious French Rose.

We toured Basse-Terre, the western side of the island, and visited Le Jardin Botanique de Deshaies.

This wonderful book is full of information on gathering herbs, creating tinctures and combining to make bitters for health and culinary delights.

We had a great time capturing the magical summer light with the authors, plants and techniques involved in creating bitters.

The four featured artists will be there with their work on display in the gallery.

Come and enjoy good company, snacks and a cash bar!

I also photographed the South Burlington clothing store SportStyle for a feature article. The store is bright and colorful and a fun place to shop. I asked my friend and model Helen McCabe to help show off the SportStyle look. Pick up a copy of the magazine to see more!

My husband Dave and I were in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia about a month ago, and had a few extra days to explore the area. We started with an amazing bird's-eye view of Coal Harbour from our hotel room at the Westin Bayshore. We marveled at the steady float plane traffic and general hubbub on the waterfront. We toured the forests and waterfalls of North Vancouver with friends, along magnificent Horseshoe Bay and up to Shannon Falls. We were in the cool interior of Vancouver: a city of shiny high-rises and funky neighborhoods. We ferried to the provincial capital of Victoria, sight-seeing along her waterfront, including the historic Empress Hotel.  We enjoyed our cozy B&B Abigail's, with it's talented chef Matt McGinn, and a Halloween night Ghostwalk where we learned a bit too much about the past inhabitants! Our last day on Vancouver Island was sunny and gorgeous at the Butchart Gardens with the lush sunken garden, Japanese maples and ivy walls. An afternoon's ferry ride back to the city of Vancouver, then home!

We got up early the next day and were at the track at 7:00 to photograph the horses during their workouts.  It was a beautiful morning and we saw the horses far more closely than on race day. We went on a tour of the barn area which was particularly satisfying for me to smell the horses and hay, and get a feel for the scene.

We met our friends Pam and Jim Brangan for the race day. They knew the score and showed us the ropes!

I enjoyed the parade of horses as they were brought in to the paddock area to get ready, and then watching their handlers wait for them after the race to cool down.

We saw the famous Triple Crown jockey Rosie Napravnik win the last race - we bet on All Over Me to win!

I keep thinking Eadweard Muybridge would have loved digital photography!

I’ve been documenting sculptor Eben Markowski’s work on his amazing Elephant Project for over a year. He was recently featured in Make Magazine, based in California. “The magazine that celebrates your right to tweak, hack, and bend any technology to your own will.”

This publication is the creative’s guide to what can be made using all kinds of materials, found or otherwise. It is full of unusual projects and exceptional talent. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Eben and photographing he and his work for about 18 years.  He always amazes me with each new task and challenge he takes on. His is the quintessential artist and creative thinker.

Here are some of my still images of his process along with a short “teaser” video which is part of my larger documentary project.

I really enjoyed meeting the masterminds behind both of these Vermont entrepreneurial endeavors, Jovial King and Duncan Holaday.

I love the flavors of the Maple and Joy Tonic bitters, (and their use as a digestif or in a cocktail) and Dunc's delicious Maple Rum.

Our dog Rosalita enjoys the coolness, and exploring new paths in the various forms of snow.

Here's a gallery of a few more photos. We walked up to Silver Lake in Salisbury, and on our way down we came upon a newly married couple. They took their vows on Lennie's Lookout trail, up at the lake. They asked me to shoot a few photos of their group, and were happy to discover it was not my " first wedding"!   I asked Nicole and Jeff to shed their backpacks and walk out into the sunshine at the bottom of the trail. They were lovely!

They have an exceptional variety of tea from Taiwan, India, Japan and China.

One of the owners, John, took us through a tasting of Oolongs from Taiwan and a black tea from Nepal. John has a wealth of knowledge not only in the varieties, but the ritual of tea.

I am a fan of green tea and black tea, but the Oolong variety holds another world of taste!

Enjoying one of these exotic brews is a great way to warm up a cold Vermont winter's day!
