Ryan was nice enough to let me design all the album art for the ‘Gorillaphant’. I loved the way it turned out and can’t wait to see it printed up.

You HAVE to download this. Not only are the beats insane but he has some of the best local MC’s on the album. It’s definitely not anything you’ve heard on the radio, that’s for sure. And that’s a good thing. We need more unique and creative individuals pushing what they do best out there for everyone else to see. Indy has many examples of that and Defame is definitely one of those guys. Get to know this dude and his musical creations because it won’t be the last time you hear about him.

The six pieces are mixed media on old games boards. I also used collage images from home improvement reference books which for me represent responsibility and ‘adult-related’ activities. There is a contrast between the game boards and collage images which personify my inner struggle of being a parent at such a young age. I was forced to grow up quick at 19 and before I turned 21 I was already married, had a child, and owned a house. My lifestyle was very different from all my friends and peers who continued to go to school, have fun, “play”, etc. I think it is only natural to want what you can’t have or think the grass is greener on the other side. It’s also about finding that balance in life and realizing regardless of lifestyle, we all can live happily and ‘play’ a little every day.

I also have six new works hanging in Bootleg Exhibitions right now. The theme of the show is ‘play’ and they is a ton of great work by a ton of creative artists. The show was curated by the very talented Stacey Holloway. You should check out her work and check out this show. Hopefully, there will be a closing reception for the show. If so, I will let you all know.

I know it has been a while since an update. A lot of things have changed for me recently so I am just trying to get acclimated to those changes. As far as my artwork, I have been trying to create as much indoors as possible. Due to my studio being my garage, it’s hard to create in such a cold environment. I am taking this time to reuse as much scrap paper (magazine, postcards, carboard egg cartons, etc.) by making hand-made paper and three dimensional objects. I love discovering new techniques with new materials. That is what keeps me going. I don’t ever want to be a ‘one trick pony’. I think that’s the expression….

When the temperature allows it, I am also in the process of organizing my studio…again. Because I accumulate so many found objects it can get chaotic very easily. I am so many ideas running around in my head that I can’t wait to execute once it warms up. I am also looking forward to creative some more functional art objects. I’ve seen some pretty creative and original furniture pieces and home decor ideas online and it has opened up another venue of expression for me.
