Now, I've always been big on smoothies and for over a year now, I've been making them daily for myself and my kids. It doesn't take long to blend everything up and it's a great drink in the morning. I've always known my kids were at least getting a good dose of fruits and vitamins with our morning smoothie.

I was recently introduced to Nature's Sunshine Products and tried a few smoothie recipes. Our morning smoothie now gives us a great dose of vitamins & minerals plus a good dose of protein too. Cost. It costs money to send items separately. If we do this for free then it cuts into our sales and we can not offer the low prices that we do now. If we get you to pay for the shipping the second time around then it costs you more which isn't right either.
Have you ever ordered a back-ordered item only to have it show up two weeks after Christmas? I have! Natural e GREEN doesn't allow back-ordered items to be pre-sold because we don't know exactly when they will be back in stock (our suppliers can get busy this time of year) and we can't guarantee the shipping in time (Canada Post gets very busy too!)

Sure we try to have everything in stock and ready to go but sometimes customers order bulk of items and we run out quickly! The best thing to do is email us so we can make a note and put the items aside for you once they come in!

Another year goes by and November 4th rolls around - Happy Birthday to my good friend Wes Bartley!

Not sure where you are but I sure do hope you followed your dreams and are somewhere warm and close to coral reefs, sunken ships and aquatic life galore! I told you I'd never miss wishing you a happy birthday and in over 10 years I still keep this promise!

14 years ago you influenced my life in a way that would change who I was to become. While neither of us knew just how much it would change my life, looking back now I can see that everything I've done in life, all I've become, all goes back to a decision I made 14 years ago, a decision that you helped me make and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Life is funny and true friends are hard to find, and truthfully, true friends find us. I am glad our paths crossed and you will always be one of my few friends that I trust & respect. You showed me how to trust and believe in others and take chances. You made me want to be a better person and to aspire for more. You challenged me to think outside of the box and to believe that the world was my oyster and I could have whatever I wanted if I worked for it.

Being a single mom at that time, I didn't believe you at first, but that changed. Now, looking back, I have you to thank for helping me believe in myself and to not live within the artificial boundaries of what I thought was my life.

September 13, 2011 - Researchers at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco have just discovered that two common chemicals used in consumer products, methylparaben and Bisphenol A (BPA) are having a negative effect on cancer drug effectiveness. When both chemicals were combined and added to breast tissue cells, they rendered Tamoxifen ineffective. Tamoxifen is designed to kill both cancerous and normal cells.

Breast Cancer Drugs Blocked by Methylparaben and BPA

Reported in the San Francisco Chronicale, the latest study took noncancerous breast tissue cells and exposed them to Bisphenol A (BPA) and Methylparaben. When Tamoxifen was then introduced to stop and kill the cells, it was unable to do so. The results indicated to researchers that introduction of these chemicals made the cells take on cancer behaviors.

Most breast cancer drugs focus on minimizing estrogen, since most breast cancers are driven by estrogen. Both methylaparaben and BPA are known to disrupt hormone function. The Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA) confirms that Parabens are known to mimic estrogen and have been found in breast cancer tissue. Brazilian Blowout Warned by FDA to Relabel Due to Harmful Formaldehyde

The FDA sent a warning letter to Brazillian Blowout about their use of formaldehyde as an ingredient. Currently the product is misbranded and adulterated.

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has issued a letter of warning to the makers of Brazilian Blowout, surrounding their use of formaldehyde as a ingredient. The popular hair-straightening solution is used in salons and is currently labeled as "formaldehyde-free" and states that it "contains no formaldehyde."

Brazilian Blowout Hair Straightening Procedure Dangers

In 2010, Brazilian Blowout was all over the news when salon works and customers began complaining to the Health Canada that they were experiencing illness when using the product. Investigations by Health Canada revealed that the popular hair straightening product contained unacceptable levels of formaldehyde.
Due to the dangers of formaldehyde, FDA guidelines only allow formaldehyde levels to be 0.2 percent. When tested by Health Canada, the levels were 8.4 percent, 42 times the acceptable limit. Formaldehyde is often used in cosmetics as a preservative. It causes irritation to the skin, eyes, lungs and nose and is also linked to causing cancer.

May 18, 2011 - Roughly 5.4 million children in the United States are currently diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, otherwise known as ADHD. Two-thirds of those children are taking psychiatric drugs to combat their symptoms. With sales of these drugs reaching $ 1.2 billion in 2010, many psychiatric experts are raising questions about ADHD and whether or not the condition was invented strictly as a way to increase pharmaceutical sales.

How ADHD Could be an Invented Condition

According to Dr. Fred Baughman, child neurologist and opponent of ADHD diagnosis, the ADHD diagnosis is not a clear and concise diagnosis and is used when a "disease of the brain" is suspected. Dr. Baughman refers to a 1970 congressional hearing that involved psychiatrists appearing and testifying that the disorder involving minimal brain dysfunction needed to be diagnosed by a doctor and treated with drugs.

He further indicates that this was the beginning of ADHD, in that it and other psychiatric diagnoses were considered to be "diseases of the brain" and need drugs to combat the symptoms. The conditions always refer to "chemical imbalances in the brain", which can not be completely proven, but yet drugs are used to counter the imbalance. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows use of these drugs and accept the belief that these drugs "balance the chemical imbalance."'

How ADHD is Diagnosed

Unlike a physical illness or disease, there is no concrete test for ADHD. There is no way to test for ADHD and reach a conclusion, other than one based on perception. Dr. Baughman, in his practice, refers to a letter sent back from Health Canada, that was in response to the question of diagnosing ADHD. The response was as follows:

"....there is no gross, microscopic, or chemical abnormality in any psychiatric diagnosis; there is no objective way of verifying a psychiatric diagnosis as a disease."

It is this statement that leads many practitioners to not believe in the ADHD diagnosis and to oppose using psychiatric drugs to combat the apparent symptoms. If Health Canada says there is no way of objectively verifying the disease, then how can there be claims that "chemical imbalances are present", since they can not be tested for in the first place?

Dangers of ADHD Drugs, Diagnosis and Treatments

With so many children, 5.4 million roughly, diagnoses as having ADHD, what exactly are the dangers? The dangers of diagnosing your child with ADHD are more than you may think and more than your doctor will tell you.

The Danger of ADHD Diagnosis

Diagnosing your child with ADHD is not a surefire conclusion and can have many detrimental effects. First, by diagnosing your child with a condition, they are being labelled and no matter how understanding people say they are, you can be sure your child is looked at a treated differently than others. This may mean they get special treatment and more care from educators, which may sound good but does separate them from the rest of their class.

On the flip-side they may also be treated rudely and impatiently; especially by educators who expect them to "fall in line" with the rest of the class. I have heard from many parents whose teachers have been pushing them to drug their children so they behave like the "other children" in the class.

Your child may be teased, bullied or singled-out because of their ADHD diagnosis.

The ADHD diagnosis is also harmful in that it may make caregivers and medical professionals stop looking for other possible factors. Your child may have a learning disability, problems seeing or hearing, other imbalances in the body or even be an Indigo child. If your child is simply diagnosed as ADHD and then left to try a bunch of drug alternatives, you may not be treating the problem - if a problem even exists!

Dangers of ADHD Drugs

The drugs used to treat ADHD are not without side effects - both short-term and long-term. You need to weigh your options carefully when considering psychiatric drugs and don't treat them as supplements, they are psychiatric drugs so make no mistake when choosing the road of drugs. Psychiatric drugs do not have a long history of tests, except for Ritalin which was one of the first drugs used for ADHD type diagnosis. Ritalin is highly addictive and often leads to adult addictions.

ADHD drugs have a variety of side effects that your doctor may or may not tell you, so do your research and speak to other parents if you can to get some inside information. While a certain drug may work for one child, it may not work for others and this is where educators are often mislead. They will notice one or two children on a certain type of medication and push parents to give that to their child as well, but they don't know all the risks and side effects.

Side effects of ADHD drugs include: upset stomach, loss of appetite, problems sleeping, nervousness, anxiety, slower growth, shaking, restlessness, dizziness, depression, tics, headaches, heart attacks, high blood pressure, obsessive-compulsive behavior, addictions, aggression, paranoia, suicidal thoughts and interference with normal brain development.

Why ADHD Would Be an Invented Disease

There is a lot of money to be made in ADHD drug sales and with so many children having these learning difficulties, it is easy to put them all under the blanket of ADHD. Caregivers and educators measure children to their peers and expect the same level of behavior from each child, but children are different and do not always learn or act the same as others.

Some children thing differently and process information differently, it does not mean they have a disease, it simply means they have a different way of approaching things. Even adults are different in that some will require detailed instructions on how to complete a task while others just dive in and get it done. In the classroom setting, for example, some people learn strictly be reading books and absorbing information; while others need to be hands-on and learn through physical interaction. Does this mean there is something wrong with one of the groups? No, of course not, it just means they have different ways of learning that works for them.

In the Journal of Health Economics, a study by Todd Elder indicated that nearly 1 million children in the US may be misdiagnosed with ADHD, simply because of their age! It was discovered that, especially in younger grades, children who are the youngest in their classrooms are not as developed as those who are older and in the same grade. Educators will measure students with one another and even the test for ADHD asks caregivers to rate their child's performance "compared to that of their peers."

For children who are younger, say 5 years vs 6 years of age, the differences can be very big and maturity much less for the younger kids. When comparing the younger children to their older peers, you may think there is something wrong with them and jump to an ADHD conclusion. These kids need to be compared to their own age group, otherwise they are always expected to be something they are not yet - older! They are being robbed of their childhood because they are always expected to act like the older kids, but they just aren't there yet.

Author's Note:

I am the mother of an ADHD child and have spent the last 8 years dealing with the ups and downs and questions of this diagnosis. We've tried it all and found things that worked, sort of worked and seriously failed! Over the last 8 years I have researched medical papers, articles and conducted parent interviews to help others understand this ailment that seems to affect most of the children out there.

I do urge caregivers to do their research and try natural remedies first, such as Native Remedies and behavioral techniques before jumping to the drug conclusion. The drugs are not a quick-fix and often have some serious side effects which may or may not be reversible! Our own child suffered weight loss, troubles sleeping, upset stomach and even suicidal thoughts - luckily we were able to intervene before things got worse and we found natural supplements that worked when used in combination with behavioral techniques.

Children with ADHD are very creative and are more likely to become entrepreneurs, it's just a matter of helping them get the tools they need to keep organized and finish what needs to be done. Most of all, they need support, love and encouragement so they can believe in themselves and keep themselves motivated!

Are Parabens Safe for Us or Are They Harmful

May 16, 2011 - It never ceases to amaze me how many people are on the Pro-side of the paraben debate. Not only are they on the "pro" side, they get downright mean and nasty when you say anything bad about them. Of course, these people are often chemists and manufacturers who stand by their decision to use parabens in cosmetics and personal care products!

Parabens: Safe or Harmful

How does the government study parabens and test them? Is it as simple as placing some paraben on someone's skin and then judging the results? No, of course not! Parabens are absorbed into the body and affect the body's internal organs and ill health effects are only noticed after a long period of exposure.

So how can paraben safety be determined? Or rather, how IS it determined since FDA and other bodies have allowed use of parabens in our cosmetics and personal care products? How can they tell us they are safe, when proper tests have not been done?

I am often asked, as are other advocates for toxic-free ingredients, to "prove they are harmful" and I counter with the same: "Prove they are NOT harmful!" Go ahead wiseguys, prove to me they are safe. Prove to me that parabens DO NOT cause cancer or tumor cells to form and grow. Prove to me that parabens DO NOT mess with the hormonal systems and levels of boys and girls alike. Prove to me, that they are safe to use on newborns and safe to use for 40+ years; continuously and in large accumulated doses!

The Connection Between Parabens and Breast Cancer

So, in 2004, The Journal of Applied Toxicology, Darber Ph.D:

Indicates that a high percentage of breast tumors examined showed presence of parabens. This, of course, is not enough to say parabens CAUSED breast cancer, but it does present a good argument to further explore the connection.

His research and discovery should alarm both the general public and government bodies, but instead, the manufacturers and gov't agencies counter the research: saying it is inconclusive and there is no link.

"Well of course there is no link - yet!" Really, it shows enough evidence that there is possibly a connection and it will just be ignored? Not good enough I say. Other studies have been done and the findings not published because the study was not "scientifically acceptable" so the questions remain "unanswered." Huh?

Is it acceptable, that research agencies did studies that would were not scientifically acceptable and that they leave the question of paraben safety "unanswered?" Is it acceptable the government still allows use of this ingredient, even though studies to prove safety have not been done and the question about their safety is "unanswered?

Saying Parabens are Safe in Baby and Kids Personal Care Products

So forgive the rant, but as a mother who loves her children and wants to make sure that what I'm putting on them won't cause ill-health effects, I have to say this loud and clear: "Parabens must be proven safe before they are allowed to be sold to the general public -Period!"

The chemists and manufacturers who contact me, complaining that I'm wrongly accusing parabens of being a health hazard and that I should accept them since the government does, can just back off until they can "prove to me that parabens are safe". That means finding people who willingly use parabens and allow research agencies to test their internal structures to see if they suffer ill health effects like reproductive issues or cancer. Not many people want to take that chance, but since the chemists, manufacturers and FDA staff feel they are safe, maybe they should step up to the plate and volunteer to be test subjects for the paraben safety debate?

Don't bother looking in Denmark for any children test subjects though - this proactive country has already banned parabens from being used in children's products and hopefully soon, other countries will follow suit, at least until this issue of safety has been resolved!

And to the many chemists and manufacturers who like to email me and try to bully me into changing my belief: Leave me alone! Simple. You stick to your belief and I will stick to mine until proper clinical research gives me more to go on. I have children to protect and I will do the best I can with what I have to go on - at this point, paraben ingredients are not part of grocery list and it will stay that way for a long, long, long time!

There are things you can do though, to help keep it under control, alleviate the pain and in some cases, you can treat it naturally for good!

Causes Eczema, Psoriasis and Dermatitis in Baby, Kids and Adults

The causes of skin conditions varies with each individual. In the instance of eczema or dermatitis, you may see breakouts from exposure to certain things like clothing fabric, fragrances, chemicals, foods or extreme temperatures. Conditions like psoriasis are a bit more complex and difficult to treat.

You should speak with a doctor and eventually, a dermatologist, to determine what exactly your skin rash is and what may be causing it. However, if you wish to avoid use of certain medicated ointments that often contain cortisone, there are some options available for you.

Treating Eczema and Skin Irritations Naturally for Baby, Kids and Adults

The main thing to remember is: Avoid irritating harsh chemicals on your skin! I am always surprised at the number of customers who come buy creams designed to alleviate eczema symptoms and when I ask the what kind of soaps and shampoos they use, they say they use the regular store brands. Regular store brands carry a variety of chemicals that are irritating to the skin and can cause eczema type reactions.

Store brands for soaps and shampoos have ingredients like Sodium Lauryl (Laureth) Sulfate, aka SLS or SLES; Fragrance/Parfum, Coco-Betaine and others that are irritating to the skin and eyes and strip the skin of its natural moisture barrier and oils.

Both of my kids and myself included have suffered from sensitive skin and eczema and I will share with you how we manage those skin conditions and keep flare-ups from happening.

Stop Using Irritating Chemicals

First, you have to get rid of store brand shampoos, bubble baths, soaps, conditioners, lotions and anything else you put on your skin that has toxic chemicals in them. If you aren't sure which chemicals to avoid, I suggest reading The Cosmetic Chemicals Guide (you can find it here on Amazon).

Once you switch to cleansing products and moisturizing products that do not contain chemicals that irritate and dry out your skin, you will most likely see a quick improvement in your skin's appearance. You don't have to switch to only organic products, just make sure your choices don't contain SLS, SLEs, Fragrances/Parfums, Coco-Betaine, 1 4 Dioxane, Formaldehyde, Coal Tar, Phthalates, BHA BHT, DEA MEA TEA, Methylisothiazolinone MI, Parabens, PEGs, Petrolatum, Siloxanes, Triclosan...like I said, reading the The Cosmetic Chemicals Guide would be very beneficial in recognizing these chemicals and their alternate names since there are so many!

Use Organic Unrefined Shea Butter

For very severe eczema and skin rashes, I would recommend using some unrefined shea butter. Shea butter has wonderful healing properties but only if it's been unrefined. Many manufacturers will refine the shea butter to make it smoother, a nicer color and to add fragrance -which defeats the purpose all together and takes away the healing properties of the shea butter.

Unrefined shea butter will be thicker in texture, almost hard. It will melt once your rub it around and a little goes a LONG way! The color should be beige-ish and it will most likely have a nutty undertone to it. Apply as often as needed. For myself, it took 2 applications to relieve the pain and redness on my hands and about a week and half to return them to normal and get rid of the eczema. We've used it on frostbite, rashes, dry skin, insect bites and for general moisturizing and it works great and lasts a long time since you need so little!

Find Chemical-Free Products for Sensitive Skin

Do your research and stick with the products that work for you and your kids. Try to avoid and minimize exposure to the following:

Extreme Heat and Cold
Fragrances/parfums
Itchy fabric (wool)
Scented laundry detergents and dryer sheets
Shampoos, soaps, lotions, bubble baths that contain irritating chemicals

Remember to do the following to help with your skin's ability to retain moisture and heal itself:

Pat skin dry after bath or shower - do not rub.
Leave skin a little moist after bath or shower and apply lotion right away to "lock in" the moisture.
Apply lotion as often as needed to keep skin soft and prevent cracking.
Bath instead of shower but shampoo @ the end of the bath so you aren't soaking in products that are taking natural oils away from your body.
Lukewarm baths or showers are recommended, very hot water will strip moisture away quicker than cooler water.
