Today I wanted to share a video makeup application, I would like to get into making videos regularly so I figured a good start would be recreating some past looks I did something simular to this some weeks back. Cocoon Apothecary Review

Today I'm sharing a brand focused overview of Cocoon Apothecary, I was able to try this brand from a credit I won to Revescent.com. I ordered the full size toner and was sent two samples of their Ancient Mud Facial Mask and their Rosey Cheeks Facial Cream.

Ancient Mud Facial Mask

This mask has an almost gritty texture when applying it to the face and a very fresh deep ocean aroma. I applied it quite generously and left it on for about 30 minutes; I did not feel any tingling or extreme tightness while wearing this mask. I rinsed it off with lukewarm water and my skin definitely felt a little more firm and it cleaned my pores right out! So as far as immediate results I was pleased but it wasn't until I woke up the next morning was I able to realized out absolutely awesome this mask was, I woke up to glowing skin and where I had some fresh dark spots forming from recent blemishes were completely dried and flaked off (gross but also really cool that it worked so well). I've never had a mask give me such great exfoliation results before.

Rose Dew Facial Toner

I love hydrating toners, I find misting my face before applying moisturizer really makes a difference in how well my moisturizer sinks in. This Rose Dew is pure Rose water made from steam distillation of rose petals, how luxurious is that? This toner is packed with antioxidants and is anti-bacterial! Beyond the fantastic quality of the product the quality of the packaging is equally awesome. Its housed in an amber glass bottle but what I love is the spritzer mechanism often times I find the spray pumps on mist can be quite cheap and finicky sometimes producing a stream of liquid or chunky mist and just being horrible in general. Fortunately Cocoon Apothecary has chosen to use the best pump ever, it consistently provides me with the finest mist ever which is perfect for when I set my face with this post makeup application.

Rosey Cheeks Facial Cream

A brief history of me and moisturizers, I always globbed them on and I loved the thick creams that usually contain some kind of petroleum, mineral oil or silicone because I had dry skin and wanted anything that would plump up my skin and make it look fresh and hydrated. Unfortunately all those types of lotions just clogged up my pores and made me greasy. This cream is super rich goes on like a dream but it has a super lightweight wear I don't know how they did it but they did. immediately after application my skin just feels baby soft and smooth. I love it and I wish I had more! Its definitely on my list of things to get full size.

Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque

My absolute favorite deep conditioner, I discovered its greatness last year after I had bleached my hair not once but twice and then proceeded to color my hair using permanent color again not once but twice...needless to say those choices left my hair in a very vulnerable state.

I started using this weekly and this stuff absolutely rescued my hair! It was no longer feeling brittle to the touch. The Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque hydrated my strands reduced it's breakage. I was blown away I honestly cannot be without this stuff ever.

Reviva Labs Rosewater Facial Spray

The product isn't super flashy but it's awesome. I love using facial mists before applying my moisturizer it helps my moisturizer work even better. Acne.org Treatment

Currently my skin is just now healing itself after a decade of being plague with Acne! While suffering from facial acne this benzoyl peroxide was definitely considered a dear friend. It is of course apart of the Acne.org 'The Regimen' a simple skincare routine to chemically control acne breakouts.

Makeup of the Day | Galactic Fae

Some creative full face makeup on the menu today, I really wanted to challenge myself to get out of the comfort of just doing one eye and to find some balance and symmetry for a full face makeup look. I've tried to do so in the past but I never felt comfortable enough to put them out there this time around I really enjoyed the results and was very excited to post this look and get some feedback.

Violet and Lilac hues are not only my favorite choice for my skintone they also often make me think of deep space and mystical aliens beings...Or I could be a guest to a Capitol party.

My hair was definitely doing something the day I took these photos! It's really just the result of undoing two french plaits my mother put in my hair a day or two prior and fluffing things out with my fingers. Whatever the origin my hair had certainly set to mood for me to want to do some drama and was my main inspiration.

Simple MOTD featuring a bright lower lash line, winged eyeliner and lots of lashes.

I double stacked two natural lashes for maximum density and used some dramatic lower lash since I have none of my own. I am in the market for some vegan mascara, I think Milani has one that I'm going to try out. Finding vegan mascara has been a bit of a struggle just because I don't want to have to pay a lot of money for it; I go through mascara so quickly I have never been one to pay over 12 dollars for one.

I've also been slowly getting back into using false lashes, I fell out of using them for a bit because I was mostly doing detailed one eye makeup looks and with my hooded eyes I felt they would hide some of the details. Now that I'm getting into doing full faced looks again because my acne has finally cleared I've been playing around with them. The effect is undeniable, falsies take your lashes instantly from zero to hero. Who do you get your lashes from and what are your favorite style? I love the ones that pack in the volume.

Another Lipart with a shadow from The Body Needs Falling Stars Collection. I love the immediate contrast these colors have with the black pigment and the shiny glitters.

To achieve this effect I based my lip with black cream makeup and used a flat shader brush to press Falling Stars Pink Gold on to my upper and lower lip. I then began blending the iridescent pink you see called Butterfly onto my cupids bow and downward. Cleaned up the edges with concealer and topped my upper lip off with lip gloss!

I'm still a noob when it comes to lipart but I see such beautiful and creative ideas put into it I like to experiment and see what I can do.

Facial Cleansing Creme

I struggled with acne for 9 years I've only just recently been able to say my acne is curring up. Previously I would only use cleansers with active acne fighting ingredients; thinking that they would help keep my skin clear. It resulted in further irritating my skin, causing dryness and leading to more acne. I have since learned that gentle cleansers are the way to go. I have been using this cleanser for two and a half months and I really enjoy it.

I use the Acure Organics Facial Cleansing Creme after I've removed my eye and face makeup with an natural oil, it removes all traces of oil residue and any makeup lingering on my skin. My favorite thing about this cleanser is I am not left with any tightness or dry patches that I formerly associated with all cleansers; it leaves my skin and soft and super cleaner with zero oil residue even though it contains many oils. I know a complaint I've often heard in association with oil based or creme cleaners is that after you rinse it off they leave a film on your skin that is definitely not the case with this cleanser.

Brightening Facial Scrub

This is a thrice weekly exfoliating treatment. Containing Organic Sea Kelp that will gently exfoliate your skin as well as French Green Clay and Organic Lemon Peel that will remove impurities from your pores. With Organic Chlorella Growth Factor and Argan Stem Cells that help stimulate new cell growth while providing a deep cleansing, brightening experience.

Previously I used this about a year ago and I did really enjoy it, after each use my skin felt renewed and look more luminous. I recently one this and the radical resurfacing treatment on the Acure Organics youtube channel just by being subscribed! It was on my wishlist so I am to start using this again. I like to mix this with water and gently apply all over my face, once its spread all over I actually like to let it sit for about 5 minutes as a little mini mask.

Cell Stimulating Facial Mask

This is quite different from any other mask I've used before, it's almost hydrating. I am more accustomed to using a clay mask that drys very hard, is slightly tedious to remove and leaves the skin feeling a bit tight and dry. This mask sets softly, no fear of it cracking off if you need to speak while wearing it, and washes off like a cleanser. Some of the reviews I read mentioned a tingly feeling while wearing the mask but personally I felt nothing, the reviews were a couple years old so maybe it's been reformulated since then; I do consider my skin a bit sensitive and I did not note any signs of irritation. I plan to continue using this I hope to give a full review of this mask soon.

Radical Resurfacing Treatment

This is a serum like treatment directed for use under moisturizer. It claims to even out skin tone and improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation. It also protects against free radical damage. As someone who has over 50% of their face decorated with hyperpigmentation I am really excited to see what results I'll be able to achieve with this treatment and will keep you posted!

Gilded Kisses

Focusing on a neutral lipart today, I recreated an amped up version of the custom lip tar I used in my Orange Smokey Eye makeup look. To create this gilded nude lip I mixed one of my favorite shades from The Body Needs called 'Pink Diamonds' with a clear gloss and layered it over top of Milanis Lip Pencil in Spice.

This closeup definitely exposes my need for a lip wax. We all have that extra fuzz up there and for those of us with darker hair it can be more noticeable than those with fair hair. I prefer to wax mine as its smooth and last for weeks, I will admit that in desperate times I've reached for an eyebrow razor for a quick fix but I hate using shaving as a method for hair removal because it doesn't feel as smooth and it last for all of two seconds before you have hair sprouting back out. In high school I used to thread it, but my tolerance is not what it once was and it just hurts too much. I have no idea how I used to handle it. Hair removal creams seem to be a popular option but personally I question their safety and I just don't feel comfortable putting those chemicals on my skin.

I recommend lip waxing all the way! How do you feel about 'lady-staches'?

Orange Smokey Eye Makeup

Today's look turned out as 'Summer Smokey Eye' look, featuring an orange halo smokey eye and soft brown liner. I had to accent the skin with a glowing highlight effect I otherwise kept things quite simple to keep focus on the eyes.

I recently hauled in some lashes and also revisited some individuals I had stashed away after I lost patience in applying them to myself. Its so much easier on another person. I always think lashes look great on others but I personally always think they look a bit odd on my eyes. I often find them to be a few millimeters shorter than I would like for my eye shape.

Previously I had found some lashes that fit great, the Dolly Wink brand made by Japanese model called Tsubasa Masuwaka, but they aren't readily available and were on the pricey side. Most recently another thought has occurred to me that I am unsure about the cruelty free status of the company. I long for the day where all cosmetics can be branded cruelty free.

I picked up some small detail brushes up from my local craft store and have been enjoying the sharpness I've been able to achieve in recent trails with them. Still practicing getting thinner lines but they have really stepped up the overall crispness of my looks.

Key players in this look were my Sugarpill Cosmetics eye shadows in Poison Plum, 2am, Midori and Tako.

Unfortunately the two purple shades are not vegan due the use of Carmine in the ingredients which is very disappointing. If you are unfamiliar with the origin of Carmine the skinny is that it is a pigment made up of the crushed scales of insects.....yeah pretty gross. It can be found in most red/purple lipsticks and eyeshadows in the cosmetic industry. It is not limited to those colors, I've seen it in blushes, bronzers, foundations etc.

It's used because it is cheap... companies like Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics who are all about color and 100% Vegan have proved you don't actually need this pigment to produce vibrant colors so its unfortunate seeing it in so many things.

Currently I've resolved to used up these that I currently own, but I will not be repurchasing them in the future unless they are reformulated to be vegan.

It was time for a deep brush cleanse once again, I ran out of some key ingredients for my usual DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner. I wanted to try something new but I found things that are currently marketed as being brush cleaners just seemed so over priced. While on instagram I saw a post by Rhian from @wifelife and she uses this, so I gave it a google and saw a lot of people using the Dr Bronners Magic Castile Soap to cleanse their makeup brushes and I saw only positive things.

I found mine at my local Bed, Bath & Beyond for $11.99 for 32 fl.oz! What a bargain, some companies are charging that and more for 4-6 oz. Its crazy.

Below is a example of the amazing results I achieved with Dr Bronners Magic Soap, one of these brushed I've had since the launched of Real Technique and the others I just bought a week ago...Can you tell which is which?

All traces of makeup were removed and the bristles feel as soft as when I first purchased them.

(The top one is the old one! Threw a little hint your way by having the bottom label face up as Nic's name wasn't on the first release. ;])

You can use this soap for so many things such as body, hands, face, and dishes.

Glowing Dewy Skin Makeup // Face

Hello! Today I wanted to geek out on makeup highlighting, or rather creating luminous glowy skin. I've always loved the dewy look but it wasn't something I ever thought I would be able to wear it due to the condition of my skin it was oily and I had a lot of acne. When you have a lot of texture flaws the dewy look is definitely best to avoid, but now that my skin has recovered and is more under control I wanted to try the dewy look out.

I've been really inspired by makeup artist Ania Milczarczyk (find her on instagram here). She is queen on the dewy fresh face.

WHERE TO APPLY

Where to apply your luminator can be one of the hardest thing to figure out as a beginner, the most important thing to remember is that it has to suit your face. It took me some experimenting to find the places I liked best. I prefer to apply my luminizer on my forehead, cheeks, cupids bow area, nose and chin and that's it.

One of the most popular places to apply a shimmering highlight can be the brow bone but for me it just doesn't work, I have a lot of space naturally between my brow bone down to my lashes so making that space appear larger and reflective is not flattering at all. I do still apply my concealer there which gives it a subtle matte highlight. This is just an example of how it's necessary to take your facial features into account. You can also use it to cheat, I don't have much of a nose bridge naturally so I like to apply my highlight right in between my eyes and lightly blend down, this really accentuates my nose and give it more shape.

If you are really having a hard time seeing where your natural highlights are I suggest globing oil (Olive, Coconut, Avocado, etc) on your face and taking some pictures with and without flash. Bare with me, this really works!! In the pictures you'll get some spots that are really bright (they might even turn white because the oil is so shiny) and the light bounces off them. Those are the best places to illuminate your face to show off your natural features.

HOW TO GLOW aka how I get a dewy finish

I. Set foundation - Ben Nye Banana Powder

II. Apply powder highlighter/luminizer - theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer

III. Blend with Foundation Brush

Thats it! The final step of going over the highlight with my used foundation brush (don't add any more foundation) has really changed things and just allowed the highlight to look melted into my skin.

Above is a close up of my cheek just so you can see how it looks up close and personal.

Here is a comparison of how my base looks without highlighter/luminizer. I like a more matte face if I'm really going to do something with my eye makeup but dewy looking skin is a statement on its own. Hindsight is 20/20 I could have probably blended the bridge of my nose a little bit more but you get the point. I was trialing out a new foundation and got a bit distracted on how amazing it felt and made my skin look! (info on that gem to follow)

Hope I didn't get too wordy, I honestly ended up cutting a lot of my ramblings out. I can talking about dewy skin for days!!! What are your thoughts on dewy skin?

Recently I've tried my hand at doing some lipart, my eyes had been very watery recently which makes detailed eye makeup very annoying. This finishes product turned out to be half gold, half black gold and mega glossy. Hope you enjoy, below is a small grid of the evolution to this finished product.

Yellow Glossy Eye // Summer Makeup

Are you ready for the Sun? We have finally reached the 'Thaw' here in Michigan, most of the snow near my home has melted and it's not getting dark at 4pm anymore which is lovely and great for giving me more light to take pictures!

With this look I really wanted to play more with the glossy eye look, making it into something somewhat 'wearable'. Lets face it though glossy just isn't an everyday look, but I am currently obsessed with the way gloss photographs it reflects lights just amazingly.

For the color choices I wanted something bright and eye catching and whenever I want mass effect I always go for yellow and if you remember your color chart from elementary school you'll know that Violet and Yellow are contrasting colors hence why I chose Sugarpills Poison Plum to contrast with the yellow of this eye look. I anchored the look down with dark brown/black smokiness on the outer corners.

I kept the skin very simple, just enough color and contour to look alive without taking away from the eyes. Same for the lips warm fleshy nude and light gloss.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Conceal // Review

I am sure most of you have heard of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics or OCC before as they are famous for their line of liquid lip colors known as Lip Tars, but today I want to share a different product of theirs the OCC Skin Conceal.

This Concealer comes in ten shades that amazingly stretches over a wide variety of skintones, five shades are yellow based while the other five a red based. I found myself in the medium yellow based range with color Y3. I think most makeup lovers can get together and agree finding your shade in a foundation/concealer is half the battle in finding a good one. With there OCC concealers I think almost everyone should be able to find their color as well as easily mix one up for custom colors.

When I see concealers in pot form I tend to automatically imagine the texture to be a thick heavy cream that is either ironically dry or terribly greasy, I am happy to report neither is the case with this gem! As soon as your touch this product it melt and it smoothes onto the skin like a dream and is surprisingly lightweight. This product does have a somewhat 'soft set' after application but I would strongly recommend using a setting powder to lock it into place for long-lasting wear.

On the OCC Makeup website the recommended application is to mix with a drop of their primer and apply with a brush. That is the best application technique for applying this on to the whole face as a foundation as I do, though I do not currently use their primer you can also use your moisturizer for a custom tinted moisturizer! I also use my real techniques contour brush to apply. When using this for typical concealing (under eyes, spot concealing) I find smoothing it on with my finger works fine.

Coverage for the OCC Skin Concealer is a solid medium plus it is just a hair shy of giving that complete block out of full coverage. As someone whose face is covered with hyperpigmentation this concealer covers nearly all of them I do spot conceal after I apply it as foundation, patting in with my finger over stubborn spots.

Below are the ingredients and below that are two pictures of me wearing this as foundation and concealer, so far I am absolutely loving this and I definitely plan on picking up more for some highlighting and contouring colors. If I can bit a bit honest I'm so over the HD Glamour girl look where everyone and their mother and little cousin are contoured and highlighted to the drag stage. I think that trend needs to be taken down several levels and people need to get back to showcasing their face. What do you think?
