The Pakistan Navy has inducted the second Babur-class (MILGEM) corvette PNS KHAIBAR in Karachi.

The vessel was inducted during a ceremony attended by Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf and other senior officials. Addressing the gathering, CNS highlighted that Pakistan’s strategic location along vital maritime trade and energy corridors demands a potent naval force to safeguard national interests and ensure secure Sea Lines of Communications (SLOCs).

Naval Chief emphasized that the Pakistan Navy is being equipped with modern platforms and niche technologies, enabling it to target critical infrastructure/vulnerabilities and the adversary’s naval assets. Inductions of advanced platforms like PNS KHAIBAR and the forthcoming Hangor-class submarines mark a milestone in PN’s modernization.

To remind, the first vessel of this class, PN Babur (F-280), was delivered in 2023.

Adventure joins Ariadne, already in service, at the core of an Anglo-French collaboration embracing the white heat of technology to deal with the threat of mines.

The vessel was handed over to the Royal Navy at Turnchapel in Plymouth, with Commodore Michael Wood, the Senior Responsible Owner for the UK program, accepting it on behalf of the Royal Navy. The program is delivered by the international group OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d’Armement/Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation).

Adventure is classed as a ‘primary system’ in the Maritime Mine Counter Measures (MMCM) program. The boat is capable of carrying a payload comprising other uncrewed survey/mine warfare systems, such as the SeaCat, which is used to map the seabed, allowing operators to identify and subsequently neutralize underwater threats.

The ‘primary system’ is connected with a portable operations center from where mine warfare experts direct the mission. With the addition of a dedicated remotely operated vehicle (ROV), the system also provides the capability to conduct mine identification and mine neutralisation training at sea.

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division has completed post-shakedown availability (PSA) work on Virginia-class fast attack submarine USS New Jersey (SSN 796).

The PSA, a maintenance period that typically follows delivery of new ships, included combat systems and electronics upgrades, as well as general maintenance on the submarine. The submarine was redelivered to the US Navy on April 3, 2026.

“Maintaining our nation’s undersea maritime supremacy is strengthened by the redelivery of USS New Jersey,” said Jason Ward, NNS vice president of new construction submarine programs.

“Our combined NNS-Navy team is focused on the mission and understands the importance of getting this submarine to the fleet.”

The US Navy commissioned USS Jersey in a traditional ceremony held at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Middletown, New Jersey, in September 2024.

The submarine is 377 feet (115 meters) long, has a 34-foot (10-meter) beam and is able to dive to depths greater than 800 feet (243 meters) and operate at speeds in excess of 25 knots. New Jersey has a crew of nearly 135 navy personnel.

Fast-attack submarines are multi-mission platforms enabling five of the six navy maritime strategy capabilities – sea control, power projection, forward presence, maritime security, and deterrence.

They are designed to excel in anti-submarine warfare, anti-ship warfare, strike warfare, special operations, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, irregular warfare, and mine warfare.

INS Taragiri, the fourth frigate of the Project 17A class, was commissioned into the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam on April 3, 2026.

This latest stealth frigate, with a displacement of approximately 6,670 tonnes, has been designed by the Warship Design Bureau and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. It utilises advanced stealth technology to achieve a significantly reduced radar signature, providing a lethal edge in contested environments, according to navy officials.

“This ship is capable of high-speed transit and can remain deployed at sea for extended periods. It is equipped with systems designed to monitor enemy movements, ensure its own security, and if necessary, deliver an immediate response. It features modern radar, sonar, and missile systems, such as BrahMos and surface-to-air missiles, which further augment its operational prowess. From high-intensity combat to maritime security, anti-piracy operations, coastal surveillance, and humanitarian missions, it fits perfectly into every role, making it a unique naval platform,” said Indian Ministry of Defense Rajnath Singh.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi highlighted INS Taragiri’s rich legacy, recalling the erstwhile Leander-class frigate commissioned in 1980, which played a significant role in advancing India’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities and operational innovation.

Reflecting on the evolving maritime security environment, he underscored the growing complexities of the Indian Ocean Region, shaped by dynamic geopolitics, emerging technologies, and non-traditional threats.

The CNS emphasised the navy’s commitment to remaining a combat-ready, credible, cohesive, and future-ready force to safeguard national maritime interests, anytime, anywhere, anyhow.

To remind, the vessel was delivered to the Indian Navy in November 2025.

Fincantieri Marine Group and two Great Lakes shipbuilders, Fraser Shipyards and Donjon Marine, have established a collaborative framework to compete for a contract to build a new Homeland Security Cutter – Light icebreaker for the US Coast Guard.

Fincantieri revealed that it is ready to lead such an effort and work together with its fellow Great Lakes shipbuilders and all those ready to join this emerging ecosystem.

Fincantieri CEO George Moutafis explained that the initial goal of the alliance is to provide the Coast Guard with a ready-to-build solution for seven new light icebreakers. He added that the partnership welcomes additional companies to join, particularly those with maritime technology and manufacturing expertise, to increase work along the Fourth Coast collectively.

Patrick Kelly, CEO of Fraser Shipyards, noted that the Great Lakes shipyard alliance is intended to facilitate rapid mobilization and cooperation among regional shipbuilders and maritime companies while adopting new shipbuilding technologies. He also highlighted that the Trump Administration’s proposed Maritime Prosperity Zones are designed to strengthen ties among industry partners and local communities, thereby boosting industrial capacity amid renewed investment in domestic shipbuilding.

“Donjon Shipbuilding is excited to stand alongside Fincantieri Marine Group and Fraser Shipyards in building a stronger future for American shipbuilding on the Fourth Coast. This alliance reflects the kind of collaboration required to expand domestic industrial capacity and deliver important national shipbuilding programs.” John Witte Jr., President and CEO of Donjon Marine Co. added.

Fincantieri operates three Great Lakes shipyards in Northeast Wisconsin that have successfully worked as a system of yards on multiple shipbuilding programs for nearly two decades.

The US Coast Guard is modernizing and expanding its icebreaking fleet to ensure that America’s waterways remain accessible, safe, and secure in icy conditions. Icebreakers are essential for keeping key commercial and military sea lanes open during winter in the Great Lakes, Northeast, Mid‑Atlantic, and polar regions.

The coast guard plans to build up to seven light icebreakers to replace its aging light icebreaking tugs (WYTLs), which entered service in the 1960s and are well beyond their designed life.

Defense company Babcock has secured a six-month bridging agreement under the Future Maritime Support Program (FMSP) contract with the UK Ministry of Defense (MOD) to maintain continuity of support services for the naval base and nuclear submarine fleet.

The contract bridging agreement follows the completion of the five-year FMSP support contract on 31 March 2026. The contract bridges to a new long-term agreement, which is in the latter stages of negotiation with the MOD.

The agreement supports the priorities of the UK Government and the Royal Navy, while aligning with the Strategic Defence Review and the Defence Industrial Strategy. It will allow for increased demand, expanded operations, and a broader scope of work at Naval Bases Clyde and Devonport, as well as at Babcock’s Devonport Royal Dockyard. The deal also supports the transition from the Vanguard-class nuclear deterrent submarines to the next-generation Dreadnought-class fleet.

“The strength of Babcock’s partnership with the Ministry of Defence and Royal Navy is critical to the increased availability and resilience of the UK’s submarine fleet and the defence of our nation. This agreement with the Submarine Delivery Agency reinforces our joint intention to move to a new long-term agreement that will see even more investment in skills, communities and infrastructure, while growing this critical, sovereign capability, together,” David Lockwood, CEO Babcock, said.

“This agreement provides continuity in the delivery of critical capabilities at a time of ever greater strategic importance for the UK’s submarine programme whilst we finalise the negotiations of the longer-term agreement. The Ministry of Defence and Babcock have an enduring partnership, aligned around the government’s mission to protect the nation,” Chris Gardner KBE, Submarine Delivery Agency, Chief Executive Officer, stated.

The French Government’s defense procurement and technology agency has placed an order from shipbuilder Naval Group for the fifth defense and intervention frigate (FDI) for the French Navy.

The FDI is designed as a first-rank frigate with capabilities across multiple warfare domains, including air defence, anti-submarine, anti-surface, and asymmetric operations.

According to the company, the platform is intended to operate either independently or as part of a naval task group, addressing both current and emerging threats such as advanced submarines, supersonic missiles, and cyber risks. It incorporates digital systems and data-processing technologies aimed at supporting operations across a range of mission environments.

The vessel’s design is optimized for deployment in varied maritime conditions, including both open-ocean and littoral environments. During initial sea trials, the lead ship, Amiral Ronarc’h, was tested in rough sea conditions in the Atlantic, including sea state 6.

The class also features a level of onboard automation that allows for reduced crew requirements. Maintenance and operational availability have been key considerations in the design, with performance targets broadly aligned with those of the French Navy’s multi-mission frigates (FREMM), which have reported high availability rates over the past decade, Naval Group noted.

The fourth frigate was ordered in December 2025.

“With these orders for FDI frigates 4 and 5 for France, planned under the LPM, the Ministry of the Armed Forces renews its confidence in us to complete the series of defence and intervention frigates. We are thus fully mobilized to provide the French Navy with the means to achieve naval superiority, in the service of France’s sovereignty,” Pierre Éric Pommellet, Chairman and CEO of Naval Group.

The US Marines assigned to the III Expeditionary Operations Training Group at Okinawa, Japan, and operators from US Naval Special Warfare Command have executed the US Marine Corps’ first live-fire drone strike against a maritime surface vessel from a naval surface craft.

An unmanned surface vessel, also designed and built by the training group, was the target. The officials noted that the event, which occurred in March at Naval Base White Beach, Okinawa, Japan, was a landmark in the increasingly close integration of special operations forces and conventional forces, ushering in a new era where drones and even their targets are designed and built by the US Marines.

The sailors also demonstrated the ability to launch attack drones from their self-built unmanned surface vessels.

The driving force for this evolution is the training group’s mission to empower individual Marines and prepare them for the challenges of modern expeditionary warfare.

“By training Marines in the construction and operation of these systems, [the training group] is building an arsenal of innovators ready to fabricate and deploy unmanned aerial, surface and ground systems tailored to specific battlefield needs,” said Marine Corps Maj. Brant Wayson, the unmanned systems branch officer in charge.

“The threat from [the] III [Marine Expeditionary Force] to our adversaries can change from one day to the next,” he continued.

“It is innovative, flexible and rapidly adaptable. We can create leave-behind sensors, build mesh networks, or develop unique systems across sea, air or land to deliver payloads.”

The branch’s current focus is twofold: perfecting lethal payload delivery and developing robust counter-unmanned systems. The US Marines are also being trained to act as engineers, prepared to build their own unmanned systems from local economies during conflict, including the design and construction of payloads with mechanical and electronic safety devices.

Overall, this event demonstrates how Marines are learning, innovating and adapting, drawing from ongoing conflicts to secure key maritime terrain. Using a combination of unmanned surface vessels and aerial drones, Marines can now investigate vessels of interest and, if they are confirmed as hostile, engage them with organic, unmanned firepower.

The US Navy has deployed another carrier strike group into international waters to conduct routine naval operations.

As informed, the George H. W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG) departed Norfolk for a regularly scheduled deployment on March 31, 2026. According to reports, the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush and its accompanying warships are deploying to the Middle East, joining the USS Abraham Lincoln.

Bush (CVN 77) and three Arleigh Burke-class destroyers: USS Ross (DDG 71), homeported in Norfolk, Va; USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) and USS Mason (DDG 87), homeported in Mayport, Fla. Mason is the GHWBCSG Air and Missile Defense Commander.

Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7 embarked on George H. W. Bush consists of nine aircraft squadrons: Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 83, “Rampagers,” Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 103, “Jolly Rogers,” Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 105, “Gunslingers,” Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 131, “Wildcats,” Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 140, “Patriots,” Airborne Command and Control Squadron (VAW) 116, “Sun Kings,” Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 5, “Nightdippers,” Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 46, “Grandmasters,” and Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 40, “Mighty Bison.”

“I am proud of every single member of this Strike Group. Our Sailors are ready and able to do the nation’s bidding,” said Rear Adm. Alexis T. Walker, commander, Carrier Strike Group Ten, embarked with the GHWBCSG.

GHWBCSG last deployed from August 2022 to April 2023 and spent the entirety of its deployment in the US Naval Forces Europe–US Naval Forces Africa area of operations.

While in the Mediterranean, the ship participated in and supported a multitude of multinational exercises to increase NATO capability and deter aggression in the region.

Recently, the carrier strike group completed Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX).
