Modenas Motorcycles

Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn. Bhd (National Motorcycle and Engine Company), or known as Modenas for short is a Malaysian national motorcycle company producing various small motorcycle models below 200cc targeted for local market and export. The company's headquarters and factory are located at the small town of Gurun, Kedah, Malaysia.

The history of the company began at the early 1990's. After the success of Malaysian automotive manufacturer Proton, the government looked forward to launch a national motorcycle project. Modenas was formed in 1995 and majority of its shares were held by Kawasaki, Sojitz, Khazanah Nasional and DRB-HICOM.

Models
Generally, Modenas produces motorcycle models ranging below 250 cc. Most models are scooter models and Honda Supercub compatible mopeds, or known by Malaysians as kapchai.

modenas elegant is launched

Modenas added another product to its line-up today. The high-tech luxury class 150-cc scooter was launched by the company chairman in Shah Alam.

MODENAS' latest scooter model, the ELEGAN was unveiled by the company chairman today in Shah Alam. The 150-cc luxury class scooter was produced in collaboration with Sanyang Industry Co., Ltd, a leading motorcycle manufacturer in Taiwan.

In the ceremony also attended by Sanyang vice-chairman, Mr Ching-Yu Huang, MODENAS and DRB-Hicom Bhd chairman Tan Sri Mohd Saleh Sulong also flagged off a convey comprising Elegan scooters and other MODENAS bikes for a nation wide road-show.

The Elegan was simultaneously launched at seven locations nationwide, in Shah Alam, Melaka, Kuantan, Johor Baru, Ipoh, Pulau Pinang and Alor Star in events that included on-the-spot testing riding for the public.

The feature packed and luxurious "Elegan" is priced at RM6,698 with the first 2,000 customers getting an introductory price of RM6,298 on-the-road offer

MODENAS spearheads the technology transfer and development of motorcycle manufacturing, to eventually enable the country to proudly produce indigenous motorcycles. Although the vision will not be realised within a short time span, it is a strongly-held conviction that Malaysia will one day become one of the formidable manufacturers of motorcycles for worldwide distribution.

MODENAS' achievements, from the first day the idea was mooted until the day the first model was introduced to the local market and then to the international market, were achieved through the sheer dedication and hard work of the management team and all the staff of MODENAS.

Facts you need to know about Naza Modenas

Here's my thoughts about Naza Modenas

Naza's announced two new product ranges – a new brand of scooters called Scoped, which are badge-engineered scooters by Taiwanese company CPI Motor Company as well as a line of motorcycle lubricants.

Although it’s not clear to me at this point which CPI Motor scooter the new Naza Scoped will be based on, above is a photo of the CPI GTR 150. Naza says the Scoped will have a 4-stroke engine, and the GTR 150 the only 4-stroke unit, while the others are all 2-stroke scooters. For all scooters produced by CPI, click here. Naza plans to launch a second model in collaboration with CPI after the affordable RM3,000 Naza Scoped is launched. Local assembly will begin early 2007.

As for the lubricants, the new Naza NTech series comprise of the fully synthetic 4T SAE 5W/40 API SL/CF NTech 8000 at RM25, the semi synthetic 4T SAE 10W/40 API SL NTech 5000 at RM16 and the mineral 4T SAE 15W/40 API SF NTech 2000 for RM10.
