Another year draws to a close

Can’t believe that another year has past, this time last year we were in Lincoln suffering from flooding and now we are land based and suffering water once more, with water seeping in around the bay windows and as yet I have been unable to find the gaps the water is finding – life afloat was sometime simpler

Anyone looking for a change of lifestyle, then our lovely boat is waiting for a new owner to take it on new adventures

The weeks whizz by

Now the third week on land, I thought the weeks went by quickly on the boat, but they seem to go even quicker at the moment, must be all the jobs that seem to need to be done

Flooding just down the road last night – just cannot get away from the water, nearly bought a house on the Fronts Brents

Seem to be getting the hang of this staying still lark – have managed to find some of the interesting nooks and crannies of Faversham and have started a new blog to file my musings of life ashore here

It’s Friday again

With one week to go until we move off, we are getting towards the end of the to do list and even managed a little cruise to the main basin to attend to the necessary chores, just one more to go until we are back on main drainage

No sign of a buyer as yet, but hopefully the one will will come along before Christmas

Left Braunston

Day 23

With a break in the weather, we decided to move going up our very last broad locks as our adventure afloat on the canals slowly comes to an end, meet no-one going through the tunnel so was unable to test the headlight adjustment made after our last trip through

As the weather was kind we pushed on to the bottom of the Watford Locks

It is still raining, so are still in Braunston, sitting it out, will have to get a book out to start the winter reading

Just heard from No 2 Son Thomas that he and Maina have just got engaged and are getting married next May

Grandson Aden has passed the Kent Test, so is following his Nan’s footsteps and going to Barton Court Grammar School – so a well done to him

Made it to Braunston and found an empty 14 day mooring, so we can sit out this awful weather

Day 30

Moved off towards Rugby with some showers in the offing, but once we had turned towards Rugby the heavens opened and I got soaked once more, must be time to stop, with the rain going sideways and the wind blowing a gale I gave up, not sure where but the sky’s then cleared, but it was too late to go on by then, maybe tomorrow will be better

Day 32

After spending the weekend in Cropredy, it was time to move despite the rain, ended up going further than we had intended as the weather cleared for awhile, but then I ended up getting wet once more and gave up a few miles from Napton Top Lock, hopefully it will be dry tomorrow as we have yet to do the Napton Flight without it raining at some point

After a noisy Friday night in Oxford, we headed off for the spend the weekend out in the country to get a bit peace and found a lovely spot just past Dukes Cut with some wonderful skies

Boring to Goring

Day 45

After getting bread and milk from Mr T’s, and then a licence for Caversham lock, we set off for Goring, I must say that I find rivers a bit on the boring side especially when quiet, so no major dramas and we found a mooring on the low bit of the wall at Goring, so not too much of a step up for my old knees

Day 46

After a lazy Sunday at Theale recovering from an Anni visit, we made it through to Reading, stopping off at DFS to look at sofas in readiness to our move back to terra firma and then back onto The Thames and are once more outside Tesco’s, where we help to boost their profits again

Moored behind us when we returned was the Bruce’s Trust boat ‘Hannah’ supporting Gutless Kayaking which is Justin paddling all the way from Skipton to Bristol raising money for bowel cancer research
