    <description>&lt;p&gt;The Lowe&amp;#39;s Charitable and Educational Foundation offers grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 to community-improvement and K-12 public-education projects. In 2011, the foundation is focusing on funding basic, one-time projects.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;	Funding priorities for community improvement initiatives include&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
		enhancements to park, neighborhood and community facilities&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
		outdoor learning programs&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
		community clean-ups&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;	Funding priorities for public education projects include&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
		construction-related education initiatives&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
		enhancements to playgrounds&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
		clean-up, landscaping, and painting projects&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
		minor repair of public school buildings&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;	The foundation prefers to fund projects in communities with a Lowe&amp;#39;s store or distribution center.&lt;/p&gt;

		repairing, refurbishing and modifying low-income housing, transitional housing and community centers&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
		weatherizing or increasing the energy efficiency of low-income housing, transitional housing and community centers&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
		planting trees or community gardens and landscaping community facilities&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
		developing community parks and green spaces.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;	Grants of up to $5,000 are made in the form of gift cards for the purchase of tools, materials or services.&lt;/p&gt;
