This can be done easily with bcp, issuing the command in your power shell dumps the data in tab-delimited values into a file.

\> bcp "DATABASE.dbo.TABLE" out "C:\Downloads\TABLE.sql" -c -S "HOSTNAME" -U USERNAME -P PASSWORD

Hope this helps, this is very useful for migrating data and for seeders where some tables are only needed to be seeded into the database as dependent values for other tables. We are heavily using this technique for testing. As for reference, here's our use case

Dump data into .sql files

Seed using QueryFromFile

Run automation; this can insert new values to other tables based from the seed data from .sql file

Rollback new values

We need to rollback each time since we want to have data the same as it was so we can run each time and expect the same results for our testing. If not, there should be error somewhere or a bug introduced in the new code that we need to fix.

That's it for now. The primary objective? To create local network versions of our applications for testing and development purposes. Additionally, we're in the process of setting up a CI/CD server to automate our workflows.

However, like many journeys, this one had its share of hurdles. The initial hiccup arose when I realized that .NET was installed before IIS, leading to compatibility issues. Despite attempting to install IIS through the control panel and tweaking .NET components, the problem persisted. "Nada."

After some trial and error, a breakthrough emerged. The solution? Executing dism as an Administrator in the C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 directory:

\> dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-ASPNET45 /all

And just like that, the clouds parted, and the path forward became clear. With IIS up and running seamlessly, our developers rejoiced, and testing commenced with renewed vigor.

Here's to smooth sailing and happy coding!

My Linux Journey: Hello World with .NET

Today marks the beginning of my journey into the world of Linux. It serves as a reliable indicator of database health, offering insights into data integrity, application performance, and system behavior. In this blog post, we explore the significance of counting table rows and its practical applications in database management.

Understanding the Importance

Counting table rows may seem like a simple task, but its implications are profound. Here's why it's crucial:

Data Integrity Verification: By comparing row counts before and after executing operations like inserts, updates, or deletions, you can ensure data integrity. Any discrepancies indicate potential issues that require investigation.

Performance Monitoring: Monitoring row counts provides valuable insights into application performance. Sudden spikes or drops in row counts may indicate inefficient queries, bottlenecks, or data processing issues.

Capacity Planning: Row counts help in capacity planning by providing data on table growth over time. This information is instrumental in scaling infrastructure and allocating resources effectively.

Audit Trail and Compliance: Keeping track of row counts helps maintain an audit trail, facilitating compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. It ensures accountability and transparency in data management practices.

Practical Applications

Now, let's delve into some practical scenarios where counting table rows proves indispensable:

Initial Database Setup: During the initial setup of a database, counting table rows allows administrators to verify data import or migration processes. It ensures that all data has been successfully transferred and no records are missing.

Feature Execution Tracking: When a new feature or functionality is implemented in an application, counting table rows before and after its execution helps identify the tables affected and the volume of data inserted, updated, or deleted.

Data Synchronization: In distributed systems or environments with data replication, counting table rows aids in synchronizing data across multiple nodes or databases. It ensures consistency and accuracy in replicated datasets.

Troubleshooting and Debugging: During troubleshooting sessions, comparing row counts helps pinpoint areas of concern. It allows developers and administrators to narrow down the scope of investigation and identify potential root causes of issues.

Tools and Techniques

Counting table rows can be accomplished using various tools and techniques:

SQL Queries: Execute SQL queries such as SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table_name to retrieve row counts for specific tables.

Database Management Systems (DBMS): Most modern DBMS platforms offer built-in functions or commands for counting table rows, making it easy to perform row count operations.

Database Monitoring Tools: Utilize database monitoring tools and dashboards that provide real-time insights into database performance, including row counts and table statistics.

SQL Code for Counting Table Rows

Here's a SQL query you can use to count the rows in each table of a SQL Server database:

SELECT
    t.name AS TableName,
    SUM(p.rows)
FROM
    sys.tables AS t
INNER JOIN
    sys.partitions AS p ON t.object_id = p.object_id
WHERE
    t.is_ms_shipped = 0
    AND p.index_id IN (0, 1)
GROUP BY
    t.name;

This query retrieves the row count for each user-defined table in the database by querying the system catalog views sys.tables and sys.partitions. It aggregates the row counts and groups them by table name.

Conclusion

In conclusion, counting table rows serves as a foundational practice in database management, offering valuable insights into data integrity, performance, and system behavior. Whether it's verifying data integrity during initial database setup, tracking feature execution, or troubleshooting issues, row counts play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of database operations. By incorporating row count monitoring into database management workflows, organizations can maintain data accuracy, optimize performance, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Efficient Cleanup of Temporary Database Tables in SQL Server

In database management, it's not uncommon to create temporary tables for various purposes, such as storing intermediate results or performing complex operations. However, managing these temporary tables and ensuring they don't clutter your database can be a challenge. In this blog post, we'll explore a useful SQL query that simplifies the cleanup process for temporary tables in SQL Server.

The Challenge of Temporary Tables

Temporary tables are often created dynamically during database operations, especially in scenarios involving complex queries or data manipulation tasks. While temporary tables serve their purpose during runtime, they can accumulate over time and lead to database clutter if not properly managed. Manual deletion of these tables can be time-consuming and error-prone, especially in databases with numerous temporary tables.

The Solution: Dynamic Cleanup Query

To address this challenge, we can leverage a dynamic SQL query to automate the cleanup of temporary tables based on a specified pattern. The following SQL query demonstrates this approach:

DECLARE @tableNamePattern NVARCHAR(100) = 'DBTableTemp_%'; -- Change 'prefix_%' to your desired pattern
DECLARE @sql NVARCHAR(MAX) = '';
SELECT @sql = @sql + 'DROP TABLE ' + QUOTENAME(TABLE_SCHEMA) + '.' + QUOTENAME(TABLE_NAME) + ';'
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES
WHERE TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE'
  AND TABLE_NAME LIKE @tableNamePattern;

EXEC sp_executesql @sql;

Understanding the Query

@tableNamePattern: This variable defines the pattern of temporary tables to be cleaned up. You can specify a wildcard pattern (e.g., 'prefix_%') to match tables with a common prefix followed by any characters.

@sql: This variable stores the dynamic SQL query that dynamically generates DROP TABLE statements for matching temporary tables.

INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES: This system view provides metadata about tables in the database, including their names and schemas.

QUOTENAME: This function ensures that table names are properly quoted, preventing SQL injection attacks and handling special characters in table names.

LIKE: The LIKE operator is used to filter tables based on the specified pattern.

EXEC sp_executesql @sql: This statement executes the dynamically generated SQL query to drop the matching temporary tables.

Conclusion

By using the dynamic cleanup query presented above, database administrators can easily manage and clean up temporary tables in SQL Server databases. This approach streamlines the cleanup process, reduces manual effort, and helps maintain a well-organized database environment. Incorporating such automated cleanup routines into database maintenance tasks can contribute to overall database efficiency and performance.

If you frequently work with temporary tables in your SQL Server databases, consider integrating this dynamic cleanup query into your database maintenance routines to keep your database clutter-free and optimized for performance.

Happy coding!

Introduction to CodeIgniter

Introduction

I've been playing around with CodeIgniter as my PHP web framework for a while now and I would like to share my simple steps in getting started with the tool. I think it's maybe too late to post this one up on the internet as there are lots of articles describing the said tool. But anyway, I'll just post this one so that I have some reference in the future how I did things to work with CodeIgniter.

CodeIgniter is a simple, light and fast web framework.

And web frameworks are encapsulation of the repetitive tasks we do when developing a website. One of the many important issue solved by this framework is maintenance. We get to have our code separated so that we have proper maintenance of our site. When I say separation of code, it's a conceptual thing. Web framework, most if not all, are implementation of the MVC pattern where we separate logic from presentation. It's model and view respectively. And CodeIgniter does that with ease.

Let me demonstrate. Mostly we do have actions as our PHP scripts, i.e. listcustomers.php to list all our customers. And we have code inside like so:

For some simple sites this works but imagine we'll have other scripts that does similar to this like listvendors.php, listitems.php. I'd imagine we'll separate the part where the connection is and include it in all of these scripts. Yes it solves the problem.

Download and Install

You need to have a web server and a PHP interpreter to run PHP and optionally we can install MySQL. I know these are lots but need not to worry. There's XAMPP to help us. Download and install XAMP and we've got all three working and ready to use.

Visit CodeIgniter website to download the said package. Assuming we put XAMPP to C:\xampp, we can unzip the package to C:\xampp\htdocs\codeigniter and that's it. We can now access the page through our browser. Open up your browser of choice and go to http://localhost/codeigniter/. Voila! We have a codeigniter website up and running.

Beyond Colors in Designs

Just found this useful color links for designing and templating. This time, I'm trying it with CodeIgniter. I purchased a domain and a small shared hosting to which I deploy a simple app. Along with it, I purchased the SSL so it should be accessed with https rather than http. Even all http request should be redirected to https, that's two problems.

A way to solve it is via .htaccess in the root app directory. For multi environments, we can set a CI_ENV variable via

<ifmodule mod_env.c=""></ifmodule>
    SetEnv CI_ENV development

So in our application/config directory we can add production directory which consist of config.php and database.php. These settings are then for production. So when we deploy the application, we need to updated those settings for production. As for me, I also have test and stage settings so I also have those directories in my config directory with config.php and database.php corresponding to that environments. This is preferred since we need to test it and put it to stage when testing is done with no issues. Stage connects to the production data but with the php files from my develop branch. In a way this tests the application with the production data. If all goes well, we can proceed to deploying to production.

Another problem is the https redirect. We can solve it with

# Uncomment these lines for https redirection
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
RewriteRule ^.*$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
# End http redirection

This is still in the .htaccess file. Just below the RewriteEngine on. So accessing the site via http will redirect to https.

And... we are good to go. I just couldn't find a solution for multiple .htaccess for different environments. But maybe it'll be for another post. Right now, I comment/uncomment the redirect statements when I develop locally and when I deploy it to my hosting. Anyway, I'm happy with what I have for now so yeah, if you have comments and suggestions please do comment below and I'll try to answer as best as I can.

Thanks and have a great day everyone!
I tried it at the shop and works fine until I arrived at home and installed office suites, and some basic programming tools like Chrome, Python, Visual Studio Code that it became useless. Now it lags and my daughter can't even work with office suites. It was for her, it was a gift, it's suppose to work and not bother her. And now it becomes a pain for her doing research and Google Chrome always says "Not Responding". I just remembered it was 2 years ago. The netbook was just kept at the closet, intended never to see the light again. I was cleaning my small office at home and I found it, I remembered the pain. I remembered it all like yesterday. It was horrible, I cried and asked God, why did I remember all those miseries. Seriously, I just found it, that's it, and just thought, well I think I can have a use for it for a small server at home. Then it hits me, it's like, light shinning upon me and God whispering in my right ear with a soft spoken voice and angelic songs in the background. "Hey, you can install Ubuntu on it", God said. And the angels keep repeating, Ubuntuuuuu, ubuntuuuu.... Lalala. I got to do it, it was now a mission from God. No, no seriously, just wanted to try something new and that is trying a simple server administration where I can host my files, maybe an onion site or whatever so that I did. I tried Ubuntu.

Well, not Ubuntu, it's a bit huge for the netbook. Well, it's not but it's still bigger than Lubuntu so I tried Lubuntu. And that my friend, is some useful netbook I can play with. You got to try it, Lubuntu is a small lightweight distro. Like a trimmed down Ubuntu. Different window system, it uses QT rather than Gnome and it's fast. For more details, please visit the Lubuntu site and the installation instruction. You need a USB drive if you don't have a CD ROM and if you do have a CD ROM, you need a CD disc to burn the image to it. No not burn like fire (yeah like fire coz it's laser inside your ROM) but you get what I mean. Burning it to a CD? Or simply write the bootable installer in it. Nevermind, you know what I mean. So yeah, there it goes. One happy coder with a new toy to play with. Ciao guys, see you next blog post.
It's a hidden service within Tor, or the onion router. Ever heard of facebookcorewwwi.onion? This blog post is about this kind of onion. If you're also familiar with the silk road then you are on the right spot. Onion sites are well hidden inside Tor and it's difficult for anyone to track.

A bit of an Intro

Hosting your own domain can be a bit tricky. First off, you need money. Well, of course, you do. You need to sign up for a hosting company. GoDaddy is one good example. There are lots though and I don't need to put it here. It seems I'm advertising GoDaddy. I only got 2 accounts, GoDaddy and ASmallOrange, SmallOrange is crap, although a bit cheaper than GoDaddy. I have Vultur but I don't know how to get my custom domain so that doesn't count. Had PesoHosting but, will get your high blood pressure rolling just mentioning it here. After you get an account, and that's after you pay for like a few dollars and get FTP account. You upload your script to the hosting server and you get a website running. This is not to mention, you login to cPanel, create an FTP account, install FTP client, configuration your account to the FTP client and upload your scripts. Also if you're connecting locally to your MySQL server, you need to not forget to configure the proper config to your server it won't connect. So anyway, hosting is a bit techy. Well, yes, same as goes for onion hosting. But did I mention you only need Tor with it. And a bit of server and scripting language so yeah I find it interesting. And I don't need a credit card and a GoDaddy account. Worth a try.

You only need Tor browser. In simple terms, it's just a Firefox browser that connects to the Tor network. Install it and viola, you're done. No, no not really. We need a bit more. Just start it for now. It should look like this.

If you installed to the default directory, you should get something like this in your desktop.

Edit the torrc with Notepad++. Again I'm not advertising any software but I do like it so you should install it. And send your donations to my account. Seriously, Notepad++ can be a good handy editor at times like this. Add these lines at the bottom.

HiddenServiceDir C:\Users\nebulom\tor_service
HiddenServicePort 8888 127.0.0.1:8888

Now that's some weird shit. But it's just a config saying "Hey Tor, look for my hidden service in that directory and my service port is that, 8888 above. So yes, I am running my apache on that port. You can do port 80 or anything you want. I just like it that way, nothing fancy. I just like it since few years ago Skype is messing with the port 80. Stupid Skype!

Now on that directory, it creates a hostname and private_key files. Open the hostname file and copy the contents. Paste it in your Tor and viola, you have a running onion site. Now spread to your friends. It could contain something like this inside your index.html in your root htdocs directory.

<h1>Envy you, friends Romans and countrymen. I have my onion site running!</h1>

You can also host your awesome website in there. Like selling drugs, who knows. Good luck you all!!!

Theory of the Genesis of Bam-e

Well, I was pondering of things today. I mean no things? Like nothing? Can't mine like shit, electricity is down almost every 2 hours so I was wondering to myself... How the hell the name "Bam-e" came to be?

As a programmer I need to know the origin of it. Like learning new techniques in programming. I need to dissect things. First off, maybe it's a Tagalog term. I think so. And yeah I found it, or did I. I thought the story goes like this. Someone named Dave came to visit Bam. Here it goes...

Dave: Hi, Bam ano yang ginawa mo?
Bam: Nagluluto
Dave: Yay, maganda yan! Masarap ba yan?
Bam: Ah wala, hinalo ko lang ang mga natirang ingredients
Dave: Ano name nyan?
Bam: Hindi ako sure eh!
Dave: Patingin nga?
Bam: Sure
Dave: Pancit lang naman yan Bam eh!

Well, if you don't know tagalog. I'm sorry, I'm not the person to talk to. I'm Bisaya and I'm very bad at tutoring Filipino. The hell, I got 79% when I was in high school. I hate the God damn subject. So anyway, hope you find it interesting. And I think I'm pretty sure this is the origin of the food name.

Ahoy! you get a 5% stake reward annually. Better than your bank. Wink

So an amount of BOAT will be added a number of times a day.
The more coins in your wallet, the more often this happens and the higher the POS (proof-of-stake) reward.

In order to be able to stake, you must leave the coins for a number of hours (to mature them) in your wallet.
I had this problem before when a colleague gave me a .dat files to be restored to SQL server. I had a 2008 version of the server and had no trouble restoring it. The problem is, I forgot how I did it when I had a new PC and I upgraded it to 2012 SQL server.

But this is a simple task (although I had a full day remembering how I did it and I had no luck finding the solution from google). First off, click restore, like so

I had trouble with the database whether or not to add a new database and restore the file to it, or not. Simple answer is no need. With the next image you can see that the configuration is very simple.

Just set it to device as the source and find the .mdf file. It automatically displays a suggestion for the database name and you're done. Click OK and wait a couple of minutes for SQL server to restore the data.

[EDIT] In case you are restoring a backup file without an extension. type='text'>Port forwarding with Zyxel router and XAMPP

Better late than never. I really planned to have a home-based web server so that I can explore a little bit of systems administration, just simply. I'm not really much of an administrator but it would be cool if I know a bit about this stuff. I had a little background with PHP and web development so I think I can handle it. Gladly it's not that difficult. With a little bit of installations and configuration, and we're done.

First off, install XAMPP. Download the application from their website and install. Just accept the default options and we're good to go. I got a little info with XAMPP and Lithium for further exploration here. So accessing the host where you install the XAMPP will get you the web server's default page. In my case, it's localhost and it displays the XAMPP default page. Things are looking good.

I'll give details on installation of XAMPP later in my other blog post.

And now for the port forwarding bit. Port forwarding means you forward a port to a specific server hosting whatever you want. Be it a web server or an SMTP or anything you want. This can be done in the router. I use Zyxel as this is a fee package from my ISP so I'll be dealing with it. I must say if you have a different router than I am, I cannot guarantee a reply (or any help at all). Adding a new server to forward a port to can be done in NAT section under Network. You can login and go to Advanced Wizard to view the configuration. Go to Port Forwarding tab and add the server you want to host. In my case I added 192.168.1.35 (my dev PC) and I'm hosting port 8080 for my Apache Web Server.
I tried hosting SQL data that's around 3G in size so I wanted to try FTP approach.

I installed XAMPP and it has useful stuffs for HTTP and FTP projects. I use it once with my PHP development, but that's it -- nothing FTP related. This is a tutorial on how to basically set-up FTP server locally to host data to be shared by friends, etc.

Once XAMPP is installed, we can directly go to the Control Panel.

Clicking the Admin for FileZilla FTP Server administration might alert you with Security Warning, just allow access to it. Click OK to Connect to Server. We are now presented with the FileZilla server Administration interface. Go to Edit->Users to add users. I usually just add temporary users who can access specific files to be shared periodically, that means I'll disable it once I'm done with the file share and also I don't usually leave FTP server running. Turning it off after use is a good practice.

Adding user is at the right side of the Dialog with Users group box. Click Add and type any user you want, I'm fond of having "test/tset" credentials so we'll use it here. Now check the Password check box to add password to the user. Type in "tset", as in reverse of test. That way it's easy to remember. :D You can of course choose your own username and password. To share file(s) or folder(s) to this user click Shared Folder. Add Shared Folder by clicking Add and browsing for the directory. I normally leave Read permission by default, at least the user can't do damage to the directory. Click OK and we are done!

Now type the credentials we created (test/tset) and you will be redirected to the shared directory we configured. Sample image below for confirmation. Of course, I didn't share my 3G SQL data, lol.
I like it and I'm searching a way to make the default fonts smaller. Just so I have more spaces to work on, especially when I code and read. Luckily I found a solution to download the tweak and make the fonts/icons custom sizes in Elementary Luna.

This is how I did it. Hope you guys find it useful. Run this in your terminal.

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:versable/elementary-update
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install elementary-tweaks

And if anyone is interested in my setting, here's my screenshot. You can find it in System Settings/Tweaks btw.
Now the year ends and hoping for a fresh start in 2018. Just got my masternode up and so far so good. X11 is the algo chosen by Sucre so it's not really friendly to CPU. Now, back to Monero. Its algorithm is Cryptonite and it's friendly to miners that only has CPU.

First off, get your monero wallet here. As for me, I do use FreeWallet so I don't worry other app/web for every wallet that I have. Anyway, if you get your monero wallet address, that's OK. All we have to do is to find pool to mine.

I use MineXMR as it's simpler. You can choose whatever you like, just search for "monero mining pools" and you get bunch to choose from.

Get the miner here, extract it to your location of choice and edit the config.json file.

{
The one in red, you need to change. It's also OK if you don't change it -- meaning you are mining for me. :D Update it with your wallet address. With FreeWallet, it's something in here.

For monero wallet, it's in the Receiving Address, copy those and you're good to go.

First you need to have a miningfield account. Register here, https://sucre.miningfield.com/ and you need to the following.

Or I can invite you by email, comment below with your email address and I send invitation so I get a referral. :)

Create an account and login. Go to My Account > My Workers and Add New Worker like so

Please note your worker name, we'll be needing them when configuring the miner.

MinerD (cpu miner) has no X11 support for the algo so we'll be needing another miner. Please go to this link and download this:

https://github.com/tpruvot/cpuminer-multi/releases/download/v1.3.1-multi/cpuminer-multi-rel1.3.1-x64.zip

Note: Extract it, might need to exclude the files from your AntiVirus.

We don't need the other ones right now other than the "cpuminer-gw64-corei7.exe". Add a mine.bat batch file, edit it and add these:

cpuminer-gw64-corei7 -a x11 -o stratum+tcp://eu.miningfield.com:3357 -u USER<user>.WORKER<user><worker> -p PASSWORD<password></password></worker></user></user>

<user>USER is your username.</user>

Double click the batch file and voila! You are now a SucreMiner!!! You should see few of these in a few minutes!

It’s a passive income earner setup for tech guys. I know I’m not techy enough but I managed to pull one off. Here’s my version of the guide on how to setup one (SucreMasternodeBETA).

The official setup is here. But I changed it a bit to distinguish the commands to be executed in shell starting with “$”. Others are to be pasted in configuration files (.conf).

Ping me if you have questions as I’ve setup the nodes with ease using the guide.
Recently I'm learning Python and encountered the Hydrology book. Had to upgrade some of python packages and some libraries needed to get working with the book. There is an instruction though about mostly using pip install packages need for the book. The problem is I can't get it work. It's missing some things so I did a little google and hopefully this is a compilation of the things I need to work with the examples of the book.

First off, I updated the apt-get

$ sudo apt-get update

Next is I installed the pip package manager. I'm not too sure but I have Ubuntu 10 and it doesn't have the pip installed. So I installed using the command below.

$ sudo apt-get install python-pip

Now the development packages for python.

$ sudo apt-get install python-dev

Most of the examples uses the scientific number packages so I installed numpy and other packages I'm not quite aware of. It's just that some of the examples probably in the later part of the book uses the other two packages aside from numpy.

$ sudo pip install numpy
$ sudo pip install xlrd
$ sudo pip install xlwt

Scipy needs some compilation and I think it has some packages built on top of fortran and some C++ source so I instlaled the essential and fortran packages with the commands.

$ sudo apt-get install libatlas-base-dev gfortran
$ sudo apt-get install build-essential

After installing these prerequisites, install the scipy with the command below.

$ sudo pip install scipy

For some plotting, installing the plot library is useful. There are also lots of examples using the plot.

$ sudo apt-get install python-matplotlib

This one I found the most useful package. It can be used as good reference to execute plotting some equations. At the very first stage of the book I encountered simple plotting of an array of x with the sin(x) as y coordinates and it's really helpful to visualize the equations with the plotter.

Reasons why you don't apply to some Companies

Just a note, this is just a joke. So for some companies, I would ask you to evaluate me first not base your judgement for hiring me in this post. :)

Recently, I planned on getting another job. This time with programming languages I'm not familiar with. Just to get my hands on. Something like Python or Ruby, or JS and NoSQL. You know what I mean.

Then came, job posts at some Ads. Recruiters really think they are smart. They're not even reviewing what they're posting and not getting consultation from experts offering a job. For example

SEO Experts (20k to 30k)

with

GREAT “DAYTIME” CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

A NEW COMPANY soon to expand OPERATIONS in CEBU!!!

I'm sure 30k is not that great. And what's with the DAYTIME? Also

Perfect Worklife Balance: “Daytime Work” and Guaranteed 5 day work week only

Easy to Manage Accounts

Excellent Compensation based on expertise, we are only looking for top talent and pay accordingly

Performance and Attendance bonuses, Leave Benefits (Cash Convertible), HMO, Educational Assistance, Meals, etc.

Fast Regularization of Employment Status (3 months Proba only)

Friday Night Gimmicks

Free “Starbucks Coffee Coupon for Two” hiring bonus

Nice and fun work environment and work culture

Well they have a nice work environment. That's good but Night Gimmicks? And Starbucks? What the hell.

Another company is hiring PHP Developers. Check this out.

Senior PHP Developers ( Object-Oriented PHP )

We'll yeah, PHP supports object-oriented programming. That's good. They require extensive of most stuff. PHP, MySQL but basic on SQL.

Requirements :

Web Application Development Experience

3+ Years of Relevant Work Experience

Extensive experience with in Object-Oriented PHP

Extensive experience with MySQL database programming and optimization

Strong knowledge on CSS, HTML, and Java Script

Basic knowledge on SQL

Extensive of MySQL but basic knowledge of SQL. Now that's contradiction. Also they prefer

Symphony Frame Work is a Plus

JQuery knowledge is a plus

It's Symfony and it's Framework not "Frame" and "Work".

Lithium first glimpse

I decided to review my PHP and now I’m interested with the Lithium project. I wanted to get my hands on it just to see what it can do and what are the good stuff in it. Lithium by the way is a PHP web framework, it’s RAD. If you don’t know what a PHP web framework is, I don’t think I can help you. But a Google with the topic can result to many useful resources.

I almost forgot most of my PHP background because it’s been 2 years since I coded it. And it was with 4.3 and Oracle. I’m not too sure about what to do next. Instead of installing everything from scratch, I decided to install XAMPP. It’s easy and good stuff (I think). Unlike before, installing PHP and Apache, make Apache recorgnized PHP, add a module to it, install MySQL… You know what I mean. It’s a hassle. But with XAMPP, it’s just a single install and everything is in there. Of course, this doesn’t help if you’re a geek and pretend to know everything and installing everything by hand makes you happy. But for me, it’s fine. For now.

When I got Lithium source, I just pasted it in the htdocs directory and there it goes. It’s slick. It also has some good tutorial in their site. Everything is good. Until I decided to check on Contribution. Not that I can contribute but who knows. I bumped into an error with the coverage. I never knew PHP has coverage. That’s interesting. So I Google a bit and read a few statements in lithium’s wiki about xdebug. There it is. XDebug is actually and extension for PHP and has good stuff. It has code coverage and everything useful for developing PHP applications. God, I never knew this is coming. The more I surf the net, the more I know things I don't know.

So back with the error, it has something to do with xdebug_start_code_coverage method not found. I ran into xdebug installation and it’s just adding the extension to the Apache. That’s simple, I think I can do that. But when I look into the XAMPP’s PHP installation, I noticed php.ini has the extension but commented. Ha! That’s even simpler. I uncommented it and voila. When running lithium test cases it fetched off the call stack with information I found some useful. Although I’m not too sure I’m too familiar with it. :)
