Here below is a conversation that took place in the comment section of this blog itself. I feel its something that will be beneficial for many of us here. That’s why posting it as a separate post. Hope you enjoy it!

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Question: I have contemplated and designed, but couldn’t reach on any firm conclusion. Without desire, the force to act perishes.
What is the permanent practical solution which is applicable in today’s era.
And before deciding anything would you prefer to include The Subject of Birth Chart Psychology which we human gets fitted underlying but in fact overlapping the well appreciated specially given human “Awareness/Consciousness”
Let’s find something Pragmatic, something Functional, Biological or best said Empirical.

Answer: Desire comes from selfishness. We want something for ourselves, to satisfy our own self ( Even caring for the family is also very much a part of it, becoz our family is nothing but an extension of the self. You love your wife becoz she is YOUR wife. You love your son or daughter becoz he or she is YOUR son. So, that is also something born from selfishness).

What we need is purpose and responsibility. Each one of us has been given a certain gift by nature. What we should think is, How can I contribute my little bit, to make this planet a better place, even if its negligibly small. Its the intention. When we do something to make others happy, and that other being not capable of giving us anything in return, and nor is that other is anyhow related to us, that’s when things get in to a higher consciousness, a higher dimension of divinity and selflessness.

Only when we are able to ACT and DO OUR DUTY for such a conscious purpose, we are in our prime. That’s how excellence is achieved in any field. Doing just for the sake of doing it, to contribute something better and do better, but not to gain or achieve something. That’s purposeful or meaningful living!
The “intention” matter. Doing something for the love of doing it (What will I give?), or doing something for a profit intent (What will I get?).
If a lover loves you just for the sake of loving, but not becoz of any gain, that’s pure love. When the doctor treats you just to take your pain away, but not for profit, that true service.

Selfless action, or Nishkama Karma, is performing duties or helping others without expecting personal gain, rewards, or recognition, often driven by love and compassion. It involves acting with a pure intention, aiming to reduce egoism and foster the greater good.

That’s what true spirituality is all about, to lose this false lower self, for the sake of realization of our true higher self. We break the confinement of “ME” or “I”, the constricted EGO.
Everything else is just illusions, “Maya”!
These are not just ideas, but concepts derived from practical experiences of life and its complexities.

About the “birth chart psychology” aspect, I think that the very differentiation between we humans and other species. We can always consciously break out of that psychology, with awareness and will. In modern psychology, NLP is a good example of that, where we can rewire our thought patterns, beliefs and behaviours. We have the ability to re-frame our psyche. We are not confined to our birth constraints.

Hope that answers your question.

What is the natural state of Nature, all the physical as well as the material world around us?

If there is no external source of light present, it is pitch dark.

Even if it is maintained or preserved well, everything here tends to degenerate & perish. It inevitably falls apart with the passing of time.

It is brutal and uncertain. You never know what will happen next. And as it changes its course of progression, its irreversible, no matter how much we try to prevent the change, no matter whether we like it or not. It just happens irrespectively.

Its never constant and keeps changing all the time. It tends to fade away with time. It doesn’t stay in one place. Its always moving and shifting into different forms. Its fragile.

Nothing here is permanent. Everything is perishable!

Basically, Nature is just like Time, constantly moving forward, ever changing, leaving the past behind, becoming the present, and then again moving ahead towards the unpredictable future. It waits for none. It stays with none.

That’s the true nature of the material world.

And as is nature temporary and perishable in its essence, so is everything that is manufactured or extracted from nature, and so is the happiness that we all derive from acquiring it or being associated with it, temporary and perishable. None of it stays!

If the source itself is temporary, how can something that originates from that very source be permanent?!

That is why none of us, in the history of mankind, has ever been able to possess that lasting happiness or peace we always have been craving for. We always have been trying to extract our happiness and satisfaction from nature itself or its variations. But it eludes us.

Because everything we see here comes from that same temporary nature.

The very character of this material world, i.e. nature, is darkness and lifeless. It needs external light and life in order to animate and experience it. The play is on only till that external light or conscious life energy is present. The moment these leaves, everything falls apart immediately. We are left with nothing but dead remains.

Even the colours (that gives us the very sense of beauty around us) only exist in our mind. Its just a kind of illusion created by our brain. Which means, all the beauty that we see and experience here are mere delusions and nothing else.

Its like the mirage. It won’t quench our thirst!

So… If we want true and lasting happiness and peace, we need to dig deeper and find the source of light & life. We need to take a more introspective look in to our lives and ourselves. Only then we can solve he puzzle of eternal happiness and peace!

Understanding the impermanence of nature can help people reduce attachment and its attendant suffering. We need to realize the fact that everything we have or possess, whether it a person, a thing or a particular emotion, it will all go away. We cannot hold on to anything. And if we try, we will be disappointed and will suffer.

Whether its an ant, an elephant, a snail, a pig, a snake, a lion or a Human being, we all are running after one thing and one thing only, and that’s Happiness. The definition of Happiness may differ as per our individual consciousness and circumstances. But, the basic principle that runs through all of us is the same. Its the avoidance of Pain or Discomfort of any kind and desirability of Pleasure or Comfort. There is no exception to this.

Where the conception of happiness or pleasure is quite simplified and fundamental in the cases of the other animals and living creatures residing in this planet, it starts becoming extremely complex and sophisticated in case of Human beings. After the point when our basic needs are being taken care of and are fulfilled, our happiness quotient takes varied forms and shades in term of its fulfillment.

From the very basic & universal forms of happiness like being loved, respected and cared for, it moves into more complex domains of Egotism, Pride & Vanity, like being in power and the feeling of superiority; the ability of dominating and controlling other fellow beings. From that, it may diverse into the territories of sadistic and cruel forms of self gratifications, like hunting, killing and torturing others for pleasure. The range of deviation engulfed by the human psychology to ‘get satisfied’ is infinitely branched out to be able to confine it to few logical theories and definitions. Anyways, that is not the subject of this post.

What I want to discuss here is the never ending and desperate chase of happiness by human beings.

Since the beginning of recorded history of mankind, we all have been completely engrossed in this single mission of finding true and lasting happiness or peace. But it seems we have not been able to quite grasp it till now. We have failed to crack the code of true happiness and contentment. All that we are able to get the most is just a few fleeting moments pleasure. Its just a momentary sense of happiness. But every-time we feel like getting a good hold of it, its seems to slip away right through our fingers. It just doesn’t stay with us. It fades away!

Whether we crack the toughest of the exams, score the highest and got what we wanted, or we get our dreams job or position, or acquired our dream home and car, or marry that very person we have always craved to be together with, or we get to buy our favorite expensive gadget or luxury item we have always dreamed of, the happiness or pleasure we get from all these things just seems to fade away within a very short time. Any of these things no more gives us that sense of fulfillment. They all tend to become usual and normal. And thus, we need something else to get happy again.

Its exactly like getting a new shot of drug to get high repeatedly, every time the effect of the drug wears off. We have to keep injecting ourselves with the drug to keep that effect on. And as time passes by, our dosage of the drug will keep rising to keep us at the same level of ecstasy.

It’s just insane!

Have you ever heard of the story of the Donkey and the Carrot?

A farmer ties a carrot to a stick and attaches it to a donkey’s collar. The donkey sees the carrot and tries to reach it. But as the donkey walks and moves forward to get the carrot, the carrot moves too. The carrot is always just out of reach. The donkey, unaware of the fact that he is never going to get the carrot, keeps walking and moving forward, chasing and following the carrot.

The story illustrates that the best way to motivate a donkey to keep walking is to dangle a carrot in a stick in front of it.

We are in the same position as is the donkey. The carrot depicts the ‘happiness’ we keep chasing all our life. But ironically we never seem to get it.

Isn’t that how all of us operate in our lives? We desire something in the hope to get happiness or pleasure. We chase it. We even acquire our desired thing. We get ‘happy’ for a while. But then it fades away. The need for something else arises again to get that same kick of happiness or pleasure we originally wanted. And then we find something and start our chase again. This goes on and on for ever. This is the vicious circle that we keep following throughout our life.

Happiness becomes like a mirage, a delusion!

Can we ever be truly happy and content? If yes, where can we find it?

Don’t you think we need to stop chasing senselessly and just ponder upon what we are running after and what exactly are we searching for?!

We are not the animals or insects. Nature has gifted us humans with a higher consciousness and intelligence, so that we can “Think and Realize”. We are not bound by our natural instincts and conditioning unlike the other living creatures of this planet. We are blessed with the capability and capacity to break through our natural constraints and and pave our own way to lasting fulfillment and happiness.

We just need to take some time to “Think and Contemplate”!

Do let me know your views on this…

One hard but essential lesson life has taught me…

If you want to be happy & be at peace, you have to stop struggling all the time & sometimes accept few things.

Work hard, give it your best shot, and if even then its not going your way, let it go. We cannot control everything. We just cannot. There are things that are beyond our comprehension and control. Destiny has its role to play in our lives.

The 3 most important things that decide and impact the very course of our life are our birth time, the circumstances in which we are born and our death timing. But the irony is, we cannot control any of these factors, can we?

Its like taking part in a race (i.e. our life), in where we have absolutely no idea about the starting point of the race (our birth), nor we know anything about the track in which we would be running (the circumstances and surroundings we were born in), & neither we know anything about the finishing point of the race (our death). Our only choice is to run and give it our best shot. That’s it.

There are also many unforeseen events occurring in our life that take place in our lives randomly. These are the events what we call “accidents”. Many a times these “random events” also tend to turn our lives completely upside down. They just happen to us, without any prior notification or indication. And we need to face the consequences of it, irrespective of whether we like or not. Unfortunately that choice is not given to us.

I am very much aware of the fact that most of us would be very disturbed and reluctant to accept this thought process, as we may feel like losing control over our own life and its occurring. But the denial is only going to make our life harder and complex.

Its a bitter truth we need to understand. The sooner we accept this, the happier we will be!

Man has always been describe as the most intelligent or the most superior living being in this planet. But if we have a close look at the present condition of the human kind or even the planet Earth as a whole, it speaks otherwise. What we get to see around us is a grim and disappointing state of existence, which is almost at the brink of complete collapse in every possible dimension of life.

Yes, Nature has truly being kind to us Humans, endowing us with a higher form of consciousness and intelligence. But, the question now is; Have we been able to utilize that intelligence to its best?!

Surely we have revolutionized the technical aspect of development and achieved some great heights. But, there are many other related aspects that also needs to be addressed and developed for an overall complete development of humanity as a whole.

If we look at the latest stats, we are standing right in the middle of a destructive mess and a chaotic environment. Most of us are quite unhappy, discontent and mentally disturbed. We have gain a lot of material belongings in order to make ourselves happy, and yet not being able to crack the code of true happiness and lasting peace. We are restless. There is clash and chaos everywhere. We are filled with dissatisfaction, frustration and anger. Crimes, wars and conflicts have become quite normal now!

If we turn around for a bit and have a glance at the biosphere, the climatic conditions have gone haywire. The planet is going through a catastrophic crisis. The air is polluted. The water is poisoned. The Wild life, the flora and fauna, is going extinct. Forest are burnt. Mountains have been cut to ground. Water resources have dried up. Climate change is a real threat.

There is dis-balance everywhere.

There is devastation everywhere.

And the question is WHY?!

If we are so intelligent and so developed, where have we gone wrong?

Why aren’t we able to bring an harmony within ourselves and with the nature around us?

We are we suffering and distressed?

Concluding from the present condition, we need to realize and thus accept few facts. We surely are not the most intelligent. We are not superior. We do not know everything. We have half-baked knowledge. We are not able to look at the complete picture. We are surely missing something quite big. And we surely CANNOT be in denial now!

We need to find an answer to this. And this is very urgent, or else we are surely doomed. If we do not get ourselves on track and rectify our ways of living, we are soon going to blow up this beautiful planet into ashes.

What do you think?! Do let me know…

“Lost time is never found again.” – Benjamin Franklin.

You must have heard this before. “Time is Money”. But I think time is much valuable than money. Because “Time is Your Life” itself.
As the clock is ticking, time is passing by. We rarely give it any attention. We just waste it without even giving a second thought to it. But, if we look at it a little closely, we will notice that every second, and every minute, and every hour that’s passing by, is actually a part of our life, that’s never going to return ever again. We are losing it, second by second. Its decreasing in count. By every passing second, we are a losing a moment. A moment of huge potential. A moment of hidden surprises, gone unexplored. A moment that would have taken us closer to our goals, but we just let it go, without using it. Its wasted. and we are never going to regain that moment again. It has become a past now, to which we have no control. the only one that we have control is the present moment. That’s NOW! If we use it, we can squeeze out every bit of potential it has in itself. but if we let it go, it will become the past again, wasted! God knows how many seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years we let pass, without utilizing it. We can bring back or regain the money we lost, we we just cannot get back the time that we lost. Its just gone for ever. Many of us pass our entire lives like this, all wasted, unexplored, passing by, just like that!

“Time is the most valuable thing a man can spend.” – Theophrastus
