2012 Hyosung GV250 Cruiser

If relaxed cruising is your cup of tea, but you find a Harley too expensive, the Hyosung GV250 could be a great alternative. The cruiser is a low slung 250cc V-Twin with plenty of chrome that you can spend all day polishing.

This motorcycle is expected to be launched in India by August features a detuned engine from the GT250R. Along with the detuned 25bhp-24 Nm, engine that will be mapped to deliver more torque than outright power, the motorcycle will come with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Incidentally, Garware-Hyosung launching the GV250 in India is a kind of second coming for this motorcycle, which was also sold in India many years ago, when the ertswhile Kinetic Engineering imported it as the Aquila 250 cruiser. This motorcycle's pricing should be approximately Rs 2.5-3 lakhs.

KTM Duke 350 will be available in 2013

Bajaj Auto holds over 40% stake in Austrian motorcycle maker KTM, and this stake has brought forth many synergies. One such synergy is the recently launched KTM Duke 200 streetfighter motorcycle and already has Indian motorcyclists drooling at the thought of reaching here soon.

Even as the Duke 200 captivates enthusiasts' hearts with a delectable blend of performance, handling and affordability, Bajaj Auto and KTM are already setting their sights on something much bigger, and we hope, much better. Early 2013 will herald the KTM Duke 350, a 350cc variant of the Duke 200.

Styling is expected to be similar. I they do successfully produce a 35bhp-30 Nm motorcycle that weighs under 140kgs, they would have managed to break into an untapped segment with vast potential. In true Bajaj tradition, expect the Duke 350 to be launched at under Rs 2 lakhs.

South Korean motorcycle maker Hyosung has collaborated with Garware to bring a range of affordable sportsbikes to India. While the more powerful 600cc ones were launched last year, the next big seller from Garware-Hyosung will be the GT250R. An entry-level sportsbike, this 250cc oil cooled,

V-Twin comes as a DOHC eight-valve layout. The engine produces a peak power of 27PS at 10,000 rpm and a peak torque of 21Nm at 6,750rpm. The GT250R will be assembled in India through CKD kits arriving from South Korea.

The motorcycle is quite substantial in size with the chassis being a lift off from the bigger 650cc GT650R model. There are meaty upside-down front forks and a monoshock rear. Expect to fork out about Rs 2.5 lakhs for this baby expected to reach here later this month.

2012 Mitsubishi Outlander 7 seater Crossover launched

The first seven seater Outlander has been launched at a starting price of Rs 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi.)

2012, undoubtedly is going to be the year of SUVs and Crossovers with more than a dozen models awaiting their launch in the Indian market, while phasing the era of small cars. And one such Crossover that we had been keeping a close watch on was the 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander, which has been silently launched by Mitsubishi Motors in India today. The first seven-seater Outlander comes with a starting price of Rs 19.95 lakh, (ex-showroom, New Delhi) which makes the 2012 seven-seater Outlander cheaper by Rs 1 lakh than the out-going 5-seater predecessor. The new 2012 Outlander will compete with the likes of the Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavor and Chevrolet Captiva.

However, we must admit that the new 2012 Outlander doesn't actually seem to be a seven seater, but a modified five-seater model with two extra seats. The thought stems from the images where it is clearly seen that there is really no third row as such, but two extra jumps seats, which have been installed to make it look like a seven seater Crossover. Having said that, the jump seats can be easily folded into the boot of the car, hence proving additional luggage space.

The new 2012 Outlander comes equipped with all the eminent features that were seen in it's five-seater sibling, inspite the price of the new Outlander being stripped down by almost Rs one lakh. The Outlander comes equipped with steering wheel mounted audio and cruise control, keyless entry, HID headlamps with AFS function, adjustable headrests and front and seat belt anchor and leather seats with seat heater. It also features remote operated side mirrors, 2-speed variable intermittent windshield viper and washer system with also the headlamp washer and automatic headlamp leveling device. There is also a multi-information display unit inside the cabin, 4-way power driver seat, and power steering with tilt adjustable steering column and warm and cool upper glove box.

Safety features such as ABS with EBD, collapsible steering column, Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution body, power windows with anti-pinch system, child protection rear door locks, a theft protection device and front dual air bags have also been installed in the 2012 Outlander.

Powering the new 2012 Outlander is the same old 2.4-litre MPFI petrol engine that is seen on the 5-seater model, which produces 167PS of power and 226Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The company is claiming a mileage of 10.3km per litre. However, there is no diesel engine option.

The refreshed 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander with a proper third row and seating for seven people was introduced in the international market at the recently concluded 2012 Geneva Motor Show. But it will take a whole long year, before the company gets the 2013 Outlander in the Indian market. Till then, we will have to make do with the 2012 Outlander in which comfort seems to have been compromised. But again, at a starting price of Rs 19.95 lakh, we can't complain too much.

Jaguar Land Rover Planning to Assemble cars in India for Asian Market

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover is mulling to assemble the Jaguar luxury cars in India in the next 3-5 years. Currently, the British company assembles only the Land Rover Freelander SUV at the parent company Tata Motors’ plant in Pune.

"We are looking at it, but volumes in India are very small now. As we go forward, we will surely consider this." Jaguar global brand director, Adrian Hallmark said in a statement. However, no specific details were revealed by the company regarding the location of the assembly unit or when the first model will be rolled out.

Jaguar Land Rover is also currently planning to set up an engine manufacturing facility in India in order to meet the demand in the country. The investment to be infused into the engine manufacturing facility is expected to be close to 355 million pounds.

VW Finance introduces Mobility Solution for Polo and Vento

For the firs time in India, Volkswagen has introduced the unique Mobility Solution from Volkswagen Finance. Under the Mobility Solution package, customers can now benefit from low EMI rates, comprehensive risk coverage, three years maintenance package and two years extended warranty.

"On top of producing excellent carlines, each customer can now experience owning and running of these cars enjoyable and hassle freeway. The mobility solution aims to provide out customers that unique proposition of enjoying a Volkswagen at its best." Mr Joern Kurzrock, chairman of the managing board, Volkswagen Finance India Pvt Ltd said.

The Mobility Solution package aims to enhance customer ownership of the Volkswagen Polo and Vento by combining the features of low EMI, insurance, maintenance and extended warranty via an attractive 36-month loan period. The customer also had the option to choose any of the solution from this bouquet as per his requirement and convenience.

Furthermore, of all the advantages there are no interest charges on insurance, maintenance and extended warranty.

Volkswagen mulls launching Up Nearly in India

Volkswagen group’s sales and marketing VP, Christian Klingler, has once again reiterated that India is strategically one of the most important markets for the company, and VW plans to further invest and launch a range of new models in the coming years. Volkswagen has also confirmed that they are currently studying the market for launching the new hatchback, UP!, in India and China – however, no concrete decisions have been made as yet.

VW has also slammed the legal and taxation policy in the country – just days before the 2012-13 Union budget. The German auto major expects consistency in legal and taxation policies, so as to plan investment in India. The comments have come partly because of the changed VAT refund policy by Maharashtra state government, which impacted many manufacturers including VW, Mahindra and Bajaj. And probably also over the proposed additional taxes on diesel cars in the 2012-13 Budget that will certainly affect the demand for diesel cars.

Volkswagen has refused to provide any details of the future investment plans in India, but if any of the plans are to be rolled-out soon, we will know more after the 2012-13 budget.

Ford Fiesta prices Would bee downgrade up to Rs 1 lakh

Ford has cut prices of the 2011 Fiesta by up to Rs 1 lakh, and the Fiesta range now begins at Rs 7.23 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The company has also rationalised the number of variants – two trims in each petrol and diesel, with five-speed manual transmission.

The Fiesta petrol will now be available in only in the newly launched Ambiente trim along with Titanium+ (and Automatic variants), while other previous variants have been discarded. Similarly only Style and Titanium+ trims will be available in Fiesta diesel.

Fiesta prices have been realigned as per customer feedback, and the sedan is now expected to be more competitive in the C-segment. The price cut has not come at a cost of safety or features as even the lowest variant offers ABS, driver airbags, driver seat height adjustment, guide-me-home headlamps and other features common to the segment.

Volkswagen Polo and Vento IPL Edition II Available from April 2012

As the Indian Premiere League (IPL) season 5 is raring to kick start on 1 April 2012, Volkswagen India too is all set to introduce its new IPL Editions of the Volkswagen Polo and the Vento.

The IPL Edition II of the hatchback Polo and the Vento sedan will be avaiable on select variants and both the special edition cars will sport interactive car pad with multimedia entertainment system with navigation and social networking options for the rear seat passenger, dual tone leatherette seat covers, special floor mats, door sill design and IPL branding on the boot.

The special IPL edition of the Volkswagen cars endorses the 'Indian Premiere League' annual cricket championship and aims at encashing on the cricket fever. Last year, Volkswagen had introduced the IPL Edition of the Volkswagen Vento to coincide with the season 4 of the Indian Premier League that received a good market response. And following the success of the Vento IPL in 2011, the new season will see the IPL Editions II of both the Polo and the Vento, which will be available to customers at no additional cost.

Commenting on the action model strategy of the brand, Mr. Neeraj Garg, member of Board and Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars said ”last year we launched our first action model the Vento IPL Edition and there on introduced the Breeze models of both the Polo and the Vento. The immense response we received towards these special editions has prompted us to continue with the IPL Editions and this time with both our popular carlines-the Polo and the Vento.”

The IPL Editions will be on display at Volkswagen dealerships starting March 15, 2012 and sales will commence beginning April 2012.

Gambhir,Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid's Updates regarding to Indian cricket

Virender Sehwag has clearly been dropped, but Krishnamachari Srikkanth and others simply will not acknowledge it. In reality, acknowledging it would enhance Srikkanth's stature, but I'm sure a mix of "majboori" and cowardice prevents the chief selector from owning up to the true nature of Sehwag's axing. The Chennai gang of N Srinivasan, Srikkanth and MS Dhoni got even with Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. It's unfortunate; it had to be that way because the facts and circumstances are on their side.

Gambhir is likely in focus because his response to the mini-demotion that was not really a demotion would now be in the spotlight. Should Virat Kohli continue to make Asia Cup hay, and Gambhir fail to reel off a couple of high scores, his commitment will come into renewed question.

In yet another mindgame, the selectors have brought back Yusuf Pathan. I can't for the life of me fathom how both Jadeja and Yusuf can fit into the mix at the same time. Jadeja is the $2m man and there is little likelihood that Dhoni would drop him. Why then did the selectors waste a slot by bringing Yusuf into the team? Is he going to play? I doubt it. If he does, Yusuf will likely play at his brother Irfan's expense. Another travesty is in the making. Irfan's handling during the CB series was pitiful. The guy had the swing and the pace, but his lines were all too dumb.

Winning or losing the Asia Cup will make no difference to anyone. Rohit Sharma et al will be on trial again as soon as the new season begins post-IPL. Sachin Tendulkar getting his 100th ton in the Asia Cup against Bangladesh would further demean his achievement, much like Gavaskar's 10,000th run against Ijaz Fakih is fondly remembered today. Gavaskar was smart enough to call it quits at the end of that series. Will Tendulkar do the same at the end of the Asia Cup?

Rahul Dravid, a true servant of Indian cricket, retired and the celebrations and commemorations have been appropriately stately. Dravid deserved a fond, classy farewell and he is getting one. In my book, Dravid was No 2 after Dilip Vengsarkar when it came to making the most difference in match-winning causes abroad. The comparision doesn't really end there. Vengsarkar was elevated as captain and failed to energise the team. Dravid, who was a good No 2 to Ganguly, shuddered when elevated to the captaincy. Dravid underestimated the effort it takes to run Indian teams and he preferred to remain spotless rather than dirty his linens. Nothing wrong with that, though.

Just like Vengsarkar eclipsed Gavaskar in the 80s, Dravid eclipsed Tendulkar briefly in the golden years of Australia and Pakistan away wins. Dravid remained a purist till the end and continued perfecting his art, until his eyes did him in against Australia this summer. He remains one of the few cricketers who will leave the Indian scene with his head held high. Anil Kumble set the highest standard for a retiring cricketer and Dravid isn't too far behind. VVS Laxman, Tendulkar et al have a hard act to follow.

Unfortunately, Dravid will remain a somewhat unsung hero because he scored all the runs in Adelaide and Rawalpindi that we wanted Tendulkar to score. He didn't make batting look sexy the way Brian Lara or Tendulkar make it look. He didn't make it look ridiculously easy like Sehwag does or Ricky Ponting in his pomp carting the world's fastest bowlers to all corners. He won us matches that we wanted Tendulkar to win for us. We thank him for that, but sorry we can't feel as good about it.
